I have had a unit at Extra Space Storage at El Camino Real in Irvine, ca for about 7 months now. This morning I went to store some items and as usual, I parked (backed up) by the door of my building, unloaded my items and once I entered my code to open the sliding doors they did not open, I tried to open them several times to no avail. I decided to press the button next to the code entry box to call the office, and a woman answered without greetings, I explained to her that after entering my code the door did not open, to which she rudely answered "go to the other side!" (which is opposite the building) I stressed to her that I already unloaded my items and will be a hassle to load my stuff again in my car and drive to the other side and unload again, she kept yelling "go to the other side, I don't understand you!" and hung up on me! I packed my stuff again and drove to the other side of the building, when I entered the building an employee of Extra Space Storage entered behind me, I asked her if she was the one that answered the intercom she said yes, and asked for her name as well, to which she responded as "Sandra", as I was asking her questions she kept walking away, I expressed to her that she was rude and should have addressed the door issue in a better manner. Sandra kept walking away and yelling nonsense at me. I find this behavior totally unacceptable! I do not recommend this place. read more

I needed a storage for less than a month and I called Extra Space Storage and told them that I need something for less than a month and they told me that they have an offer to get one month free for new users. So I paid only $25 for initiation fee and $18 insurance for a 10'x10' storage.. Good deal and highly recommended read more

We got our storage space this week. I found it on line on the Extra Space website. We were repeat customers and received a recommendation from the Irvine Company. After reserving the last 10 X 15 unit and getting a call from the manager we set up a time for me to come in the next day to finish the paperwork. When I arrived the nice ladies working found my reservation. But there was a glitch and we got a supervisor (Tom) involved. It took a couple of days but I got an email to expedite my work nit rental. I called in and set up the final paperwork and we did it right then over the phone. Even though there was a problem they took care of it and gave me great professional service. I came in and this place is nice, clean and everything we need. Thanks team. read more

Wow! I am completely caught off guard and really upset. I just moved into this storage location three months ago. Now I get a post card in the mail that they are raising my month charge 13.8%..... what the heck?! Not a happy camper. Only one star for the bait and switch. welp....9 months ago i had written that if they increase the rent , i would move out to another storage company. they raised the rent TWICE within 4 months, and now i just received a letter that they are increasing the rate another $5.00 - this means in less than ONE YEAR they increased my monthly rate an additional $$16.20 a month since i started with them. January 2019- $85 April 2019- $85.20 May 2019- $96.20 February 2020- $101.20 DO NOT USE THIS PLACE - it's bait and switch prices. please read the other reviews of other customers this has happened to too. i'm outta there! never again will i use them and will warn all my followers or anyone wanting to use this storage company about their shady tactics. rent increase once a year i can understand... but three times in 9 months?!!! This place is very clean and the staff is really friendly and polite. Thankfully masks are required. We were shown some available storage spaces following the manager's golf cart with our car because of covid that made us more comfortable. I made a reservation that day that locked in the price for a week so I can transfer my stuff from public storage. I am very happy with the experience so far. read more

They were running an excellent move-in special where you get your first 2 MONTHS FREE (unheard of, right?!) conveniently right when I had to move, AND I'm paying a ridiculous price for a 10x15 unit that's right next to the freight elevators! Just got a unit at an incredibly fair price with the 1st month off and an option to pay for a year upfront at a locked rate that can be cancelled with refunds for the unused months. Staff is incredibly helpful and kind. The facility is great because it has an office with long hours. I just got a price increase notice. I moved in Sept 2020 at rate $92. I had one $10 increase and now a year later got a notice that the new price is $140. $50 increase in 1 year. This is so frustrating how storage units do this. I understand they increase prices as this isn't my first storage unit. I'm upset about the steep rate increase over such a short period of time. I will be contacting Steve again. I hope you will too. I asked if he would be able to recommend a company and he said Extra Space Storage. I'm very glad he did. You know when you have received excellent customer service when you remember the representative's name after leaving 7 hours later. Melanie was working alone, at 10:30AM, yet her attention to detail and seeing the needs of the customer was exceptional. She shared I should see both a 5'x10' and the 10'x10'. Afterwards I shared I wanted the 10'x10', the 5'x10' may have been okay, but I had a sigh of relief after seeing both units. Especially on the third floor where the ceiling was about twelve feet high! Melanie went the extra mile, which I believe she does all the time. She engaged with us, by laughing with our baby boomer jokes, and made us feel comfortable. I thought about going to Public Storage, but the building was clean internally and externally. The staff that I encounter was helpful. However when i was moving in my items, i notice my 5 x 5 was actually a 5 x 4.2. Maybe there should be a discount if they are cheating almost 1/5th of the space that they advertised. There seems to be plenty of large carts available to use. Bathroom and water fountain available. Good elevator system. Building seems new and clean. Cylinder lock required and cost around $16 if you don't already have one. Check your home owners or renter insurance to see if it covers storage places otherwise the cheapest insurance to insure $2k of junk is 14$ a month! Be honest and evaluate how much your stuff is actually worth. That's almost half the price of the 5x5! Will see how quick and how much they raise my rent and will update. read more

I moved across country and need storage for my household goods for several months until I find a place to move into. There are many storage options near my temporary zip code of 92705. I selected Extra Space Storage at 3289 El Camino Real in Irvine because of price and cleanliness even though it was not the closest. My enrollment process was great and I got all kinds of useful information I had not thought of because the phone agent was incredibly helpful. The on-site staff are the best. My move has been incredibly difficult ( first mover cancelled my long-reserved move 2 days before due to lack of truck driver labor; second mover took $2000 deposit and went radio silent; in the end I had to rent a truck, find a cross country driver; and line up loading labor; first set of moving labor showed up way late). The one bright spot is Extra Space Storage. The place is immaculate, both outside grounds and inside hallways and units. Abundance of carts to help you move things. Overhead light inside storage unit. Very secure. Extremely helpful staff, professional, competent and seem to like their jobs! Cannot recommend more highly. read more

I was pleased with this place...until my unit was broken into, bins were rummaged through, and items taken. And the oddest thing about it is that the lock was somehow picked (or someone had a key) and they re-locked it when they were done. At least they are courteous thieves? I will say that I did not purchase the lock they recommend (mostly because they did not mention it at the time that I leased the unit or I would have), but I did buy a lock that had excellent reviews and was known to be safe. I asked the lady at Extra Space about it, and if she knew how the lock could be accessed and she would not answer my question but just kept blaming the lock. Ok, I get it. The lock didn't work, but I wanted to know why, in her opinion, was it bad. She also couldn't seem to be able to pull up any of my recent visits and told me the last time I accessed the property was in September (I leased the unit at the end of March). She just handed me a flyer for the insurance and told me to contact them. All in all, I won't be keeping my stuff her much longer. I can't trust that they are keeping my stuff safe. I even sat in my car for a bit after I left my unit and a ton of people were going in and out of the sliding doors to the building. There's no security in this place even though they make it seem secure! My guess it was someone who already had access to the property and units. read more
