I've now rented three storage units from Extra Space Storage , and this location in Irvine has definitely been my favorite. The location is incredibly convenient, especially being right by the Marketplace with easy freeway access. Having a storage facility in a nice neighborhood is an added bonus. The facility is always clean, well-maintained, and the parking is fairly spacious. Since I use my unit to store business inventory, I'm here fairly often, and I rarely have any trouble finding a place to park, which makes coming and going so much easier. What really makes this location stand out, though, is the staff. They've been consistently helpful and thoughtful. One time, I accidentally left my push cart behind and forgot to put it away. The staff noticed it and safely stored it for me so I could come back and retrieve it later. That small gesture really showed me that they pay attention and genuinely care about their customers. Great location, clean facility, convenient access, plenty of parking, and--most importantly--excellent staff. After renting three units with Extra Space, I can confidently say this is my favorite location. Highly recommended! read more

Total scams! I booked on line for $93/month. They call and trying to scam me into $63/month insurance. Paying $29 for lock. They false advertising and scamming people any ways they can!!!! Stored items there for a few years. Jacked my rates from $150 to over $300+ in a short time. Requested my online account be fixed bc I couldn't sign in with my email. Made numerous requests of front office staff and location manager. Told me it would be fixed and 4 years later it still wasn't fixed. Finally asked again and staff member advised they spelled my name wrong the entire time. Complete morons and manager was nasty every time I spoke with her. Just a horrible attitude with customer service, clearly miserable in her job. Lastly, a female customer was sexually assaulted on premises, don't know if they caught the guy. Got a storage at PUBLIC STORAGE (10 x 10) for $138 per month and the location manager is great, very helpful. Oh, and my online account works perfectly. read more

Yea my biggest complaint is like everyone else's, the ridiculous price increase & how OFTEN and aggressive it is. This might have been my fault but when I first signed up I was unaware of the "promotional rate" so I was unpleasantly surprised when I received the first increase. The rep did offer some sort of discount but sure enough 3 months later my rate went up another $100 dollars. What rubs me the wrong way is that there is no transparency. No warning , no notice email they just go ahead & take it. Sure I could call again and try to negotiate but it just all seems kind of shady. Plus I don't wanna have to catch my payment every month before it goes through just to make sure this business doesn't continue to do ridiculous increases. I get that places need to follow "market rate" but again just be transparent & clear with your customers from the beginning. I also find it kind of surprising that within a few months the customer "demand" is SO HIGH that it requires this type of increase(I've NEVER seen this place busy) Sure the facility was nice but not impressive enough to deal with unethical price increases. We've been renting a unit for 5 years now and since Covid they raise the cost soooo much, every 4-5 months! We had to move to a smaller unit in the same building since the cost online was half of the cost they wanted us to pay. And after 3 months they raise it again by approximately 70% it is impossible to be paying so much!!! We love the location but unfortunately we will have to move out. We were paying $280 (increase of $85 in less than 6 months) and now they raised it again to $327 for a medium size unit. read more

Let me preface this by saying, if you are in need of short term storage this place is perfect. However, if you are looking for anything longer then 3 months, and I think most people usually are then you might be in for a little shock depending on what size unit you have. I was just issued a 50% rent increase which took me by surprise after only three months. I have left a few messages with the office and have yet to receive a return phone call. I just wanted to know what warranted such an abrupt and large price increase. Going back now I see there have been a few who have experienced the same. I think it's standard practice, they just don't broadcast it. It feels a bit like bait and switch. If someone would have called me back to at least explain, I don't think it would have bothered me as much. Extra Space is a real estate investment company and I imagine the staff onsite are just following protocol. Update------------ The rates here are competitive to other storage facilities. Our unit is super clean and easily accessible. The reason I am updating my review is because of an incident that had occurred with my unit. Without going into detail, I just wanted to say that the way the staff and extended personnel handled the situation was professional in the highest sense. I was holding off on writing a review until after a few weeks in case I ran into any issues. Had an appointment first thing in the morning a few weeks ago to find a unit to store some stuff in for a little while. Was able to make an appointment/reserve a unit online, and Sandra followed up with a phone call the day prior. Sandra the manager was professional and courteous throughout the appointment! While I had reserved an outside unit, I mentioned to her I noticed an interior unit was also available, and inquired about the pros and cons of both units. I also asked if she would mind showing me both units - and she didn't seem annoyed at all. After walking through what seemed like a mini labyrinth to get to the interior unit, I opted for the more accessible exterior unit that I could drive up to. Lease agreement process was straight-forward, Sandra answered my questions as they came up. You do need to have rental insurance - but it's only an additional $12 or so each month on top of your unit monthly. I opted for one of their circle locks for another $16 or so - I imagine I can take it with me when I move out. Sandra mentioned the inevitable rate increase when the promotional rate falls off - as long as it's reasonable, it's expected for this type of business. My unit was clean, but I did lay a piece of tarp down for padding. I was concerned about access code problems since the other reviews mentioned it - but my access entry and exit codes worked fine. The roads beyond the gated entry are wide and can accommodate cars just fine. I've only returned once since the initial signing, but it's not too busy either, the grounds are kept relatively clean. Will update this review in a few months if any problems arise, but for now, it's smooth sailing. read more

I've had storage units with Extra Space Storage for many years for my business. I'm constantly having to change units because they will arbitrarily raise your rate after even 2-3 months of moving into it. I moved into a new unit in October of 2024 for a rate of $171.00 a month, then less than 3 months later they raised it to $272.00! Outrageous!!! read more

This business does not value repeat or long term customers. If you need ongoing storage don't rent from them. They count due dates wrong and denied me access to the entire facility for a new space I paid in full, and another one also paid in full, because they claimed my 3rd storage was 6 days past due when it wasn't!! And they knew about it when I was on the phone buying the new one, but didn't tell me they would do that. They promised me access. It was Christmas Eve so I specifically asked as I needed access that day and Christmas so I could wait to sort boxes of legal files. I wouldn't have rented the third space otherwise. I've been a customer 1 1/2 years and all my sites are always paid in full. I pointed out had I known they locked me out of all my sites - even a brand new one I just paid for - I could have just paid the other site right then even though I was in the 10 day grace period. The issue is they took my money knowing I would be denied access. When I spoken to Letty who claimed she was the district manager but wasn't (per the 800 number) she claimed it's in my contract to lock other sites paid in full and not just deny access for the one that is due but still in their Grace period. I'm a legal consultant with an expertise in contract law. I explained they can't contract away your rights on other services paid in full, that's not legal. Letty started getting very belligerent with me and said if I'm talking about the law she won't talk to me. She refused to give me an email where I could write a letter. I was inconvenienced on Christmas and late to see our grandma when they knew they were letting me pay for a space I couldn't use, the office was closed, and so was their 800 number so there was no way to get in. This is on top of the bait and switch on their website where they posted a price but then claimed that's only for 4 months prepaid which it says nowhere. That's false advertising. They also advertise low intro fees then raised the price $80 each every few months on both my other spaces. I'm paying over $1K a month to these people!!! That's not chump change. Is the storage business really this scummy? Seems they need some competition who values their customers. I'm suing Wells Fargo myself right now and I'm winning. I may just give them some serious competition. read more

But two months in I received a rent increase notice of 75%....without warning nor did I have a low promo rate to begin with. Needless to say I'm planning to move everything out in short order. Set up my unit online. Came in the next day to show my id. Got my code so I could start using the storage unit. I should have known I would have issues when my code said access denied. The young lady who help me came out and let me in and said my code would work before I left. Second mistake trusting her. My code did not work the second time trying to get into the building. And once again they help me get in. Leaving the unit my code worked, so I thought they fixed it. Was I wrong, I tried to drop off my stuff Saturday after work, it was a little after 8 pm , we should have access till 10 ... to my dismay my code said access denied. I call their call center and it was close already. I called back this morning and the rep said I need to got to the office and show my id and that I had not. I explained to her I got the code from the office on Friday. She was very condescending and kept cutting me off. She said she left messages to the unit manager and two assistant manager to connect with me. Said give them 20 -30 minutes to call me back. Been over an hour now. Currently car full of items to put into storage, but I have to wait till Monday to speak with them in the office. Really a bad way to start a storage rental. read more

This place is a scam. I accidently missed a single month payment and they put a lean on my storage as soon as the second month's payment was due. They didn't even wait past the 10 day grace period of paying the bill. The young "manager" argues to me saying that is normal and gave me all kinds of excuses. Thankfully I have a very small storage that is easy to move. She says this is in the lease so be warned that this will happen to you sooner or later. read more

New and clean which is great. But the customer service is lacking. A few notes: 1. Hand out a map of the storage area to find the unit easier. It is a maze. 2. Better solution, put a map up in the storage area when you exit the elevator. Maybe add some signage at each row that shows the unit numbers in the row. Similar to hotel floor signage 3. place signs in the maze pointing the way back to the elevator 4. Respond to your email requests. I sent in my insurance paperwork in a week ago (twice) and nobody has responded that expensive insurance you require has been removed from the bill 5. Indicate the insurance requirements so folks can bring in their homeowners policy to prove they have personal belonging coverage to save the $22 per month that Extra Space charges and lock purchase requirement ($29) on the website more clearly so customers are aware of the additional costs read more

I needed help figuring out a smaller unit, as I have moved out a lot of stuff from the larger unit. Was super impressed with the staff and the amazing service we got when looking for a storage space! I totally forgot his name (he's in the picture tho)...he was amazing with trying to help us figure out what size of unit we needed and our options. Very up front, personal and honest. We have had this unit for a few months now and are very happy we went with Extra Storage Space. Not sure if this was me not paying very good attention, or if I had been told insurance would be added, but our original quote ended up being $20 more a month than I signed the agreement for. When I called about it, I was told we needed to bring proof of insurance, and went back in to take care of any future insurance charges. THEY DID NOT REVERSE OUR CHARGES (Yes...I'm still giving them 5 stars...cause I still don't know if it was me or not..and I HATE reading contracts and signed without really reading...like most people. So 5 stars it is.) JUST MAKE SURE your insurance company covers storage and let them know, otherwise you are paying an extra like $20 a month! TELL THEM UP FRONT!! The employees were super helpful with the "cancelling insurance" bit. And here I am, with a cleaner garage, and a bunch of hoardy crap I don't need tucked away safely in a clean and secure storage shed. Happy with this place so far! read more

I've been renting for over 10 years now and the facility is well maintained with moving dollies at each exit and should one not be available you can easily request management and they will find you one. I had an absolutely atrocious, horrible experience with Public Storage. I was angry, discouraged and on my way home when I passed Extra Space on El Camino and thought.... Wait a minute, why don't I check here? I pulled into their parking lot on a Tuesday afternoon with no appointment and walked into their office. I was immediately greeted by Deneen who was cheerful. She listened to my sob story about Public storage and went over my options with me. First off: the price here for a 5x5 was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what PS wanted to charge. The facility was large and clean ( granted, I never actually entered PS' facility ). And there were a plethora of hand carts to use. The locker itself was a generous load height and worked perfectly for my purposes. Deneen got me started with my new unit and Crystal helped me finish the lease. She let me know that she was on loan that day from another location but she is awesome. Both Deneen and Crystal were thoughtful, listened to my complaints about the competition and cared about my concerns. I am so glad I stopped here. We've never had any issues and the staff are always helpful and courteous. The office and site are always clean and well-kept. We recently went in to update our account and change persons of responsibility and had a great experience working with Deneen, the Store Manager. She helped us figure out what we needed to do and even informed us of a promotion on a better unit. She was friendly and personable and provided for an efficient transaction. I was looking for a storage when I was moving out of my apartment in July 2021 and found this location. Originally I rated them with 5 stars but yesterday (November 2, 2021) they raised my rate by $40. So it went from $58 to $98 in 4 months. I guess it's only good for very short period of time. I can't really recommend it, but if you need something for couple months, it'll do. read more

Since being with Extra Spaces I paid most of my stay in advance and rarely would go to get belongings out of storage. On March 4th 2021 at 7 pm I went to get some furniture to take to my place making a couple trips back and forth; my last trip to storage being at 9 pm. I was attempting to leave by 10 p.m. however did not exist the building with my last belongings of the day until around 10:05 p.m. Because I wasn't sure all items would fit in my vehicle I got their dolly placing it in the door way to put the dolly back I was using in the building in case I couldn't fit my belongings into my vehicle to take back up stairs. While I was putting belongings in the van the storage Manager approached saying in a very harsh talking down manner "unless you want to pay 10,000 to fix the door, don't do this again" which was completely uncalled for. I told her not be talking down to me and explained my situation. I then asked for her name. To proceeded to ask for mine which I didn't give. The man she was with then took out his camera telling the storage manager he was going to take a picture of my vehicle license plate which he did. As the manager and I continued to debate since she allowed a non-employee to take a pic of my vehicle license plate I began to video record them. She quickly stopped barking mellowing her tone and verbiage to a more professional manner. I contacted her boss the next day whom justified her behavior and stated she was asking me to vacate and would be put on the do not rent list. I then went another step above speaking to someone in corporate whom told me it's understandsble how I would post a review. She did state how the customer service was less than adequate that I received however still came off highly indifferent. Because I told her even if I wasn't being asked to vacate I would do so anyway as a result of the poor experience that never had to take place. I did ask if her subordinate did place me on the do not rent list. Her response was "what does it matter since you said you'd vacate anyway." To me it mattered to see if she would amnend the situation by saying something like "I know you were treated unfair and I will have a chat with the district manager about stating you would be placed on the do not rent list." Eithier way, especially with speaking to multiple employees going up the chain where there was little accountability for the storage managers or district managers behavior except to say "this will be a training opportunity for the storage manager" as staed above all woman acted indifferent about the poor customer service. It says something big when corporate, knowing there was wrong doing, acts indifferent setting an example for employees working with customers. I would highly recommend staying away from this place!! Corporate only cares about the money they can collect from a person. read more
