I used this company recently for extra storage space during a move(no pun intended). It was clean and orderly, staff was professional and courteous. No major issues until I tried to leave the company and empty my storage shed. I was told by one employee that if I gave them enough time, due to their computer system I would receive a refund for unused storage time. I called and notified them of my move date nearly 2 weeks in advance. On the day I moved everything out I was told by the manager that I would receive no refund and have to pay for a full month, even though I was little over 1 week into my current monthly billing cycle because I didn't notify them of the move BEFORE the 1st of the month. So, besides needing 10 days advance, you also need to make sure that is ALSO before the 1st of the month or you will pay for an additional month. Not such a good deal when everything settles on the last month. Stay away is my suggestion. Don't know if this is industry practice, but I will personally NEVER use this company again. Try another competitor. read more

Probably one of the best customer service experiences I've had in my life. Matt is a true professional. Corporate should take note and put this young man in some fast track program! I've been at this storage for 8 years and spent roughly 16k on a single unit. There were all types of issues regarding my account. I've been out of the country for the last few years so made it difficult to rectify. We had to find a new storage unit. Our storage space has been vomited on, our property has been messed with, and our property was broken into this week. We filled a police report. This storage has a problem with the homeless coming on to the property and Extra Space Storage is in no hurry in addressing the break-in issues they have. The manager wasn't helpful and seemed to circle around the issues and concerns. They dont have exceptional security as the manager Kevin B claims. Break-ins dont happen when their is exceptional Security. read more

Several months ago, while I was still in California, and had picked Austin for my destination. I needed to ship all my belonging out prior to my leaving there. So I called around, in the blind I might add, asking if any storage companies could or would accept my UPS shipments, and store them away, without me being there? Finally, I happened on this company and it's resident manager named Sandy. I can't express what a pleasant experience it was dealing with what turned out to be more than a complicated ordeal. I looked on Yelp for storage places around Austin because I needed to store my belongings away until I could move into my new apartment. I've never used a storage center before so I was picky. The Extra Space Storage on McNeil is great and I will use them again if I ever have to. Staff is VERY nice and helpful. Price was reasonable, they have different specials so prices vary. Used several storage places in my life, best it gets for customer service, cleanliness of units and price point. Is a little North of Austin, but for what you get worth the extra 2-3 miles from other storage units. Nina Wheless, store manager is fantastic, direct, clear and precise. Kept finding me better units the closer it got to my moving day and in the end saved me a smaller unit right by the access door that I literally backed the truck up to and unloaded. Been a customer here since July 2014. Nice place. Clean units and friendly staff. ( except for one lady who was pretty rude to my wife - didn't get her name ). Also big enough area for a 18wheeler to move around in. The wife and I would periodically check on our stuff and over time, we have put bug bombs in the unit ( this one we have is not one of those controlled atmosphere units ) and we have noticed debris left behind by rats. The pricing started off pretty cheap for a 10x20, but eventually got jacked up to the point where it was way overpriced. And back to the rat problem, eventually staff new there was a problem because there are rat traps around several of the units but not one around the row which ours is in. On April 29, we had the moving company come in and load up our stuff onto the moving truck. Unfortunately, rats had gotten into a few of our boxes and destroyed a few rare books. Also due to water leakage, our California King and full size mattresses were damaged ( mold ). The girl working that day was apologetic and took some pictures. Currently my wife, after talking to the insurance company, needs to call back the insurance company after 5 days and talk to an adjuster. Will this story end happily? Stay tuned 5/2/2017 Denied our first claim cause they don't cover rodent damage. Totally bogus. Onto our claim for water damage. Stay tuned. Ok. Insurance is bogus. Read the exclusions Ok. To be fair, our fight is with the insurance company not the storage place which is a good, clean, safe facility. I would recommend this place read more

After striking out with multiple self storage places in my area, I came to Nina at Extra Space Storage. She is so kind, friendly, and has the greatest customer service skills I've seen in a while. She worked with my family this past week and helped to make a really difficult, stressful situation so much easier and manageable. I haven't used Extra Space, but called their 'new customer' line to get a rate for a unit. While the man I spoke to was very nice and checked a couple of different properties to try to get me a lower rate, I felt like he was REALLY pushing me to reserve the space. I absolutely hate being sold to - I come away feeling sick to my stomach. I feel bad giving a negative review because I'm sure he is told to push for the sell, and I'm sure they run a lovely business, but the fact that I was pushed so hard completely turned me off. In fact, I JUST received a voicemail from them, 5 minutes after I got off the phone with the first guy and told him I wasn't interested. I will be going somewhere else. read more

We are relocating out of Austin and Extra Space Storage IN Addison, Tx was highly recommended to us by the lovers we found on Yelp! However, in order to reserve a unit we had to complete paperwork and pay for the unit prior to moving in. Since we are not currently living in North Texas, as of yet, I was panicking, but the manager in Addison told me not to worry, Myrna at this location in Austin would take care of us! And she did! We went to the McNeil Extra Space Storage and you drive into the property and everything is immaculate from the minute you drive into the driveway all the way up the the porch and the glass on the front door! Then you walk into their office and the place even SMELLS clean! So Myrna greets us upon walking in, she's very professional and immediately knew who I was, very impressive from the get go. She had her end of the paperwork all completed, she simply needed to input my address and CC info. But she was very thorough and efficient. She turned her monitor around to ensure every detail she entered about my personal information was entered correctly. Then she proceeded to go over every document of their rental agreement to ensure I understood each page before signing it! Finally, she asked if I had any questions and then called the North Texas manager, to ensure everything she had entered and ran my credit card for was completed properly on her end to ensure I was taken care of on his end. And if course it was. I appreciate Myrna taking her time to make sure everything was done correctly and then following up with our new place to make sure we weren't going to hit any snags once we moved. Recently someone broke into the storage unit we are renting and stole about $1700 worth of sound equipment. I find it suspicious that the thieves just happened to choose our storage unit to rob and it didn't help matters that all they had to do to defeat the security was just point the video camera away from the hall (which has me wondering why there isn't motion detection as well as video surveillance). Something to think about when considering storing valuables at this location. read more

Actually, I thought the process of renting a space was very pleasant. However, one day after I moved my belongings into a temperature controlled unit, the unit (as well as four other units) was burglarized. Although the entire storage unit area is protected with a fence that is closed at 11 PM, anyone could easily climb the fence and gain access into the inside units since the exterior door to these indoor units are not locked. Fortunately, nothing was taken from my unit because I only had household goods stored but I would be extremely worried about storing anything of great value, e.g, jewelry, electronics, any items that could be easily sold at a pawn shop. I would suggest that the owners of Extra Space consider installing locks on the exterior doors to the climate controlled units that require either a code to open the door or a card that must be inserted to open the door. Also, I suggest they find a stronger system for securing the actual units since the burglars were only able to cut the locking device, not the locks. read more
