After a brief phone conversation with Al on the phone describing a clunking sound in the front steering assembly of my 57 Chevy Belair I decided to take the car to him to see if he could identify the problem. I had taken the car to 2 other well known repair facilities in the valley before but both shops had very different opinions as to what the problem was and they both recommended extensive, costly repairs. One of the shops was convinced that my car's frame was compromised and needed to be repaired and reinforced. This diagnosis is what prompted me to contact Al and schedule an appointment for him to check out the integrity of the frame. I arrived at Al's Unibody and Frame at 10:30 in the morning and within 15 minutes not only did Al pinpoint the real problem of the "clunking" in the steering, he had it completely fixed in that time too! To top it off, he didn't even charge me!!! Who does that??? Ok so I'm very fortunate that the problem turned out to be something very simple (mounting bolts for the steering box had stretched) but after being told by other automotive specialists that I was going to be spending mega dollars to get the problem resolved, I was prepared to write the big check to get that annoying clunk fixed. Turned out that was not necessary thanks to Al's honesty and and his amazing knowledge of automotive suspension dynamics. He told me "Let me check my crystal ball, oh wait I don't have one", then hung up on me. He says I have to pay for the labor for diagnosis AND pay for the labor for him to go back in and clean the plugs. What mechanic takes everything apart, sees this minor problem, puts it all back together again and then takes the time to start all over for the minor fix? THIS GUY!
