I was referred to Star Service when I purchased my 2007 SL550. They specialize in older European cars and they're amazing! They do great work and I totally trust them to fix my car at a reasonable price. I've had my car for two years and they take care of everything for me. They do my oil changes and let me know when it's due for the next oil change. They top off all the liquids and check out everything else while I'm there. Don't plan on hanging out there while they work on your car. There's really not a place to sit. I usually Uber to Starbucks 2 miles away. Today I walked 1/2 a mile to Better Buzzed coffee shop and it was a perfect place to get my work done. I 100% recommend Star Service! They're great! read more

Unfortunately I parted ways with my previous Mercedes shop that my family has been using for 30 years. As much as I hate to say it, had I known Star Service along w/ Jerry and his crew were out there in Tempe (which is on the other side of town for me) I would have done it a long time ago. Jerry and Si fixed an idle problem that no one had seemed to be able to fix for the last 20 years, fixed an A/C leak, fixed the brake system and did some other work for me all at a very reasonable cost. I should also mention, they did replace and fix several minor issues they came across while working on the vehicle at NO COST! I can't recommend these guys enough and from now on, I'll be making the drive to Tempe when I need any work done on this car. read more

Anytime i have a concern he tries to help me over phone and provides great advice that wont hurt my wallet. I had taken my 99 C230 Kompressor to 2 other shops one especially several times to fix whatever was causing my check engine light and both failed me. My 1st trip to Star service was a winner winner chicken dinner, not only did they find the issue by doing all the needed diagnostics, they didn't charge me, sensing how frustrated I was by the other shops and the $ I had poured out previously. As a shop owner (and a collector of classic european cars), I am extremely particular about my automobiles. I have lusted over a classic Mercedes SL since my high school days and found what appeared to be a low mile car in the Phoenix area. The gentleman selling, while not a car person, tried to be as thorough as possible and emailed several pictures over. I've learned not to commit with pictures alone. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a "pre purchase" inspection on any used car, regardless of the marque. After a google search, I was fortunate enough to find Star Service to perform a pre-purchase inspection on a 1989 560SL. They were very thorough and provided a comprehensive list of concerns on the car. I had also been told that the paint was all original and Star noted evidence of paintwork on the hood and rear quarter panel. I cannot believe that a shop was so thorough for a very minimal charge. They saved me from buying what could have been an endless money pit. Their passion for the cars is clearly obvious, they love what they do and will give you the most precise and expert opinion. I used this Mercedes shop for a long time when the prior owner, Nick, was the owner. Nick had excellent customer service skills besides being a very successful business person. Unfortunately, he decided to retire and no longer is affiliated with Star Service. I have brought my Mercedes recently to Star Service and dealt with "Jerry", the current owner/Manager. There's a reason Star Sevice does JUST A FRACTION of the business eds it used to do. it's because Jerry lacks greatly in the decorum and classiness Nick possessed. Nick had a cashier who was also a real gentleman. I will NEVER return to Star Service. They did a mediocre job on my car. Make sure to go to other German- European mechanics in the East Valley. I have 2 older mercedes and one of them was nearing a transmission rebuild. One of my neighbors had a 450SL that she had taken there for years and told me she trusted them implicitly. I called and asked about key updates that need to be done on 722.303 transmissions when rebuilding. The Transmission guy ( Kyle ) told me exactly what I needed to know. So, I took it in. The quote Jerry gave me was spot on. My 1983 300SD now shifts like a new one! And, there were NO surprises! In my 62 years I have dealt with some pretty sharp mechanics, and charlatans who call themselves experts in the automotive field. These folks are the real McCoy. After moving from San Diego to Tempe, my 2006 C class had a message about the coolant. Called Star Service and they looked at my car, found it wasn't the coolant but the fan behind the air. Si explained to me that unfortunately the part couldn't be cheaper (I appreciated that he mentioned cost, as most mechanics don't, and recognized that I would want the best, cheapest part when available) but that it would be done that afternoon. Over my wife's objections, I have held onto a 1990 300CE that I bought new... for misguided sentimental reasons. Until recently it has become of love hate relationship. If the dealership is even willing to work on it their cashier gives me a bill wearing a mask and holding a gun. Other "Mercedes specialists" have been hit and miss... mostly miss. So far Star Service has been a different experience. Jerry seems to be very knowledgeable about my car and it's profound problems. His charges have been reasonable and he is cautious about throwing money into a car that is no longer is the high five digits. read more

I'm writing a review and they didn't even work on my car! I've got an '84 gray market SL with the non-standard (for this car) inline six. It failed the DOT emissions test. I called these guys to fix it. That is like opening your wallet and telling a mechanic to start pulling $100 bills out of it. The guy on the phone says, "Tell ya what I'd do, I'd get ahold of my insurance company, insure the car as a collectible, and nobody's sending you another emissions testing notice ever again." The Best Mechanic's I've ever dealt with. I've got an older "94" Mercedes E420. I was about to just let it go. I thought I'd have Cy and the guys check it out one last time. It had been parked for 2 years. Cy drove it himself and put it through Emissions, it Pasted!!!! He drove it just to make sure everything is OK.
