I brought my car in because it was making a noise every time I started it. I was told the timing chain needed to be replaced and that it would fix the problem. I paid approximately $4,400 for the repair, but when I got my car back, the exact same noise was still there. I contacted the shop and was told the car was fine and to ignore the noise. I was also told the repair was covered by a six-month guarantee. When I brought the car back under that guarantee, I was then told the noise was caused by something else and that I would need to pay for additional repairs. When I asked for a refund because the original issue had not been fixed, the owner became angry and used profanity toward me. I understand that diagnoses can change, but I expected the original problem to be resolved or for the guarantee to be honored without being charged for more repairs. Unfortunately, my experience left me very disappointed, and I cannot recommend this shop. read more

To start off, I lost an oil pump that cost me a motor. I didn't know where to take it so I had it towed to a Chevrolet dealer in Gilbert (They were horrible). After a week of nothing from the dealership, my coworkers told me about Menard Auto Repair and about the amazing owner, Dan. I gave Dan a call and told him my situation. He recommended a tow company, who went right out to get my truck, and told me how he works. Dan told me he could get a used motor and that he would go through it to make sure it was good before install. We decided on a new motor from Chevrolet. The Chevrolet dealer didn't deliver the motor on time (typical auto dealership) but it finally showed up to Dan's shop. Dan's tech, Wade I think (I apologize if it wasn't), went through everything and found some parts that needed replaced. I told them to please change them. They don't even charge labor for changing those parts. WHAT?!? Great people. Anyways, they got me back on the road in record time with great quality work. I met Dan when I picked my truck up and he is a super nice guy. The kind of guy you wouldn't mind hanging out with. If you ever need anything done to your vehicle and are close to Mesa, take it to Menard Auto Repair! Dan still believes that his word is his bond. He doesn't try to gouge to on prices and find hidden items that need done just to get more money! If you want good quality and honest people, take it to Menard Auto Repair. If you want the same old song and dance, getting ripped off at every turn and no follow-up, take your vehicle to a dealership. Thank you Dan and Wade. I'm back on the road and VERY happy with you and your shop! read more

Only great things can be said about this establishment. I've always had a positive experience and a car that is properly taken care of the first time. No back and forth issues. Communication about the time they will need to do repairs as well as the cost involved has always been spot on. Overall it's the place you want to go to have vehicles serviced and maintained. Trustworthy people that treat you right. read more

We have had a number of problems with our cars over the years but never have I been as satisfied with repairs as we have with Menards. Prices have always been fare and the work guaranteed. All of our repairs have been completed when promised for the amount in the estimate. No surprises. read more

They are the best! They go out of their way to find parts and get you back on the road. Great pricing and back up their work. Glad I found my new shop for my auto. Highly recommend. read more

This shop has been gold. The communication is great, prices are fair and the Owner is honest and personable.

Very knowledgeable and reliable. As a woman I felt like only the essential services were suggested and I could trust them.

TLDR: Everything you want in a mechanic. Honest, communicative, and experienced. We recently lost my step-dad and needed to make sure that my mother's car was safe and reliable. Their team made quick work to pick out the important fixes, all of which were at the right price. Turnaround was quick and Rickey was communicative throughout. Thanks guys. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dan Menard and his team of mechanics. They have consistently proven to be honest, trustworthy, and skilled in diagnosing and repairing our vehicles. From the moment you walk into the shop you're treated with respect and care, knowing your vehicle is in the best hands. For the outstanding service they provide, they are very well priced. If you're looking for a mechanic shop that truly cares about you, make sure to go to Menard Auto Shop. Thank you for your service! read more

I love doing business with a really honest family owned business. Gratefully these folks are not only that, they are very knowledgeable, fair, dependable and skilled. I brought my Honda CRV to the dealer after they charged the AC and it lasted a day. Returning they checked it out and said, the compressor had created shrapnel and contaminated the system and would run about $5200. It was a fact, but gratefully I called Ricky at Japan Mtr s. ,explained the situation and he said get it out of there I will do the job, for about half with a lifetime warranty. He did exactly that. The car runs great and have renewed faith that there are still honest, reputable, reliable shops still around and men who stand by their word. Thank you for being who you are! read more

10 out of 10, Dan and his team helped me fix a wiring issue on my truck quickly. Support your local veteran owned business, would recommend to anybody! read more

if i could give 10 stars I would. Dan & his crew are incredible! after getting turned away by four other mechanics due to some rust on our vehicle, Dan took us in the next day, no problem. His team worked tirelessly to make sure our van was in safe running condition, going above and beyond what I can imagine anyone else would have done. He had us driving home the same night and we cannot be more thankful read more

Had my front lower control arms on my 350z replaced. Excellent work at excellent price. Will be back. Thanks!

After receiving a laundry list of repairs needed on my car from a local Toyota dealership, I decided to get a second opinion from a local independent mechanic. My daughter suggested Japan Motors so an appointment was made. I met Dan and Danielle, the new owners, and discussed all of the repairs that I was expecting to have done by showing the video I received from the dealership. They examined my car and to my surprise and relief, the majority of the issues weren't issues after all. They completed several services and I now feel that I have found someone I can trust to take care of my vehicle. I am also pleased to promote this auto repair shop because Dan is a Veteran and has the qualities I was looking for - quality, integrity, fairness and communication. read more

I brought my SUV to this mechanic named Dan that owns the shop I used to bring another vehicle to the shop when his uncle or whoever he's related to owned this business anyways I had them put on new shocks struts and mounts when Dan and his assistant mechanic put on my shocks to my SUV and put on the mounts they damaged one of my mounts I talked to a mechanic that I know the mechanic that I know told me that if you don't put the mounts on correctly you can also damage a person's driving axle guess what these idiots did they damaged my driving axle as well I tried calling Miss Michelle and explaining how her husband and the other mechanic there had damaged my vehicle Michelle started to go on and on saying her husband Dan never entered mounts into his computer hmmm he installed mounts onto my car no s*** lady he didn't because he damaged one of my mounts and damaged my driving axle so he is a coward that damaged my vehicle I thought a man with his standards would have more respect for people and for his customers and to be a man and own up to your own mistakes but don't worry karma is going to come on to you and your husband 10x or times worse you should really know what universal code means and is because it's going to come down on you a lot harder and I hope to God it does so my suggestion is to stay away from this mechanic shop take your vehicle to a mechanic that knows what they're doing that's experience and if it cost more trust me pay it because it'll cost you a lot more they don't know what they're doing and are going to destroy your car or worse get somebody killed you should feel ashamed of yourselves and your business I don't even consider you a business I consider you a bunch of scamming ass little punks I was going to sue your ass but karma will come back to you I promise read more

I was referred to Menard Auto Shop by a neighbor when I needed my 4 Runner checked out. Danielle told me to come in and they would check it out when I got there. As it turned out the battery was causing the problem. They were able to put a new one in while I waited. I asked them to check my vehicle out for any other issues. They found a few issues that needed attention in the not to distant future. I was given a explanation & quote for needed repairs. I brought the vehicle back a couple weeks later to get the work done & it was completed in a reasonable time frame. Everyone has been very helpful and courteous. As my 4 Runner is up in years I will be seeing Dan and Danielle again in the future. Excellent service in every way by owner and crew! read more

They did an excellent job fixing my car Even found a few items the dealership mechanic missed. They could be a 5 star shop but. My only complaint is that they don't return phone messages. They might answer the phone or might not. Can't keep calling, then I look like the guy that got dumped and wants 1 more chance. To sum it up They are GREAT MECHANICS Please Answer your phone. And Return messages read more

Even with the Name of Japan Motors, this place works on everything you can think of! Brought in my 2001 ram 2500 for a complete engine rebuild and they did an awesome job! Ricky was referred to me by a family friend as "the only mechanic I trust". 5 years later I refer him to everyone as "the only mechanic I trust" He'll tell weather something needs immediate attention or if you can save your money for a little while. He's not trying to push extra stuff on you. Not to mention the guy is hilarious to shoot the breeze with while you're waiting. I have referred at least 8 people here that have been really grateful for Ricky. read more

First came across this shop a couple years ago referred by a friend with a old car I had that gave me lots of problems , and each time I'd take it in I'd drop it off and Rick would call the day after with the issue , what needs to be done and a rough estimate. Always honest fair price. Most recently took my new car in and same great service thank you to Rick and his team. read more

PLEASE READ I've been going to this shop for years and Ricky was phenomenal. Recently, I went to get a muffler re-welded that my son tried to weld the first time and ended up falling off. Well, the weld job that Dan did fell off as well, but he tried to blame it on my son. He said he would do it again but for a price. I tried but failed to get an explanation on why, and all he said was that my son messed it up the first time, which even if this were true, isn't that the point of getting it professionally repaired? The least that could have happened was to let us know beforehand that the repair job potentially wouldn't hold up, (which they would have known at the time based on this claim) instead of charging for a weld that only lasted 3 months. So that was $175 I paid for a bad weld job. Well, I said no to the next weld job but I had him replace a bad radiator which I was quoted for a price. When I came to pay it went up $140 and once again I asked for an explanation and was told that he had to drain my Freon to get to the radiator, and I asked why I wasn't called to be given the new estimate. Well, since he was frustrated about the weld job he looked at me and said, "Do you want me to drain it?" Wow!! I didn't even say I wasn't going to pay, all I did was ask a question about my service, which he then said he wasn't doing business with me anymore. So I paid (the higher amount) and drove off and my car started overheating and smoking a mile up the road! So I called and told his wife and she explained that we weren't doing business anymore!!What?!?!?! She told me to call 1800 radiator to get it warrantied. She also told me they test drove it. They didn't test drive it!! I had another mechanic come look at it in the parking lot of a subway and was told the radiator hose wasn't secured and popped off once it got to temperature. He also told me that they didn't need to drain the Freon to get to the radiator. This new owner will not take responsibility so please beware! read more

Rickie is hands down the best mechanic here in Arizona. He is honest and very trustworthy. Do not go anywhere else! Look at the other reviews, I agree with them all. I am so grateful that I have found a great mechanic. I wish I could give him more than five stars! read more

I hate writing bad reviews, but I just didn't have a great experience here. I was referred here for some A/C work about a year, year and a half ago on an older Jeep. A/C system was R-12, an outdated refrigerant but I wanted to stick with it. They gave it a quick charge that stopped working pretty quick (as expected, meaning leaks existed) and then pushed to pull out the whole system, replace all the parts and upgrade it to R-134. I hesitated but asked him to give me a price. He said he had do some research on parts (also as expected, it's an older jeep) but gave me a ballpark quote of $1200-1500. After a couple days I didn't hear back so I called and left a message asking for an update. A few minutes later I got a call back, but was apparently an accidental dial...like he'd typed my number in his phone and hit send to save it but didn't hang up. I proceeded to hear him and someone else swearing about cars and chewing out one of his mechanics yelling like mad. Really left a bad taste in my mouth. Never did get another call back and I never bothered to follow-up. Ended up finding the parts myself, having new hoses made and having it recharged somewhere else for about $600-700. Should have just saved the $50 initial charge and not gone here to begin with. read more

I have only have had good experiences here. They always do a good job. I had them fix my car last week and I thought it would have been a really hard repair to do but they fixed it and did it at a fair price. read more

Ricky is the best. He has taken care of my vehicles for a few years now. Always straight forward and very honest. An all around good guy with awesome customer service. I have two vehicles that are both over 12 years old and I know they'll be running another 12 years with Ricky doing the service on them. He's saved me thousands of dollars over the years- in repairs and in not buying a new vehicle prematurely. I also drive all the way from North Scottsdale to see him and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. read more

I have taken two different vehicles to Japan Motors and both have been repaired with quick and fantastic service. It is hard to and a honest mechanic, but Ricky at Japan Morors is awesome. The guy has bent over backwards to help us out and our cars run great now. I can't explain enough how great this place is, I'd trust him with any vehicle I own, and I'd know I'm paying a fair price for the service because he explains everything he does and searches for the best price on parts. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, youd be in good hands. read more

I recently got my car fixed at Japan Motors. I am so impressed with everything. Not only is my car running great, Ricky, the mechanic, was extremely fair. He walked me through the whole process (my car was worse off than I thought) and never did anything without contacting me first. The price was very fair as well. He understood that I am a working student and was very fair. Definitely recommend Japan Motors!!! read more
