Oil on the driveway. Ugh. Called some friends to get a recommendation for a local shop. One said that Scott from Sunland was the guy. We had the car towed over (2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid), and they diagnosed the problem and repaired the issue quickly and at a fair price. Unfortunately, the tech made a small mistake and once we got the car home, there was more oil on the driveway and a check engine light. Ugh, again. So we called back to Scott to see what he wanted us to do. We understand that sometimes mistakes are made and issues arise. How a business owner handles those issues are the difference between good businesses and great ones. This is a great one. Scott was MUCH more upset than we were! He got us back in same day and fixed the issue at no charge! (We should have paid for a necessary part, but he would not charge us.) With everything so expensive these days, and everyone trying to stretch a buck, it's hard to know if you're leaving your car with someone who cares about it as much as you do. Scott does. I am learning I can't believe artificially inflated reviews on Yelp - because of these positive reviews, I've been going to Sunland for years. I realized that outside of the most basic work (like breaks, fluids or shock changes), they are not the place to go. When I have issues and take a car in, I leave with the very same issues, but I think they are taken care of. I have multiple cars now which fall into this category. The most recent is a Ford Expedition with a leak. $1500 into the work, the original problem was not solved. In fact, I now have a quote for $1900 for the remainder - when I asked why the problem wasn't solved it was 'oh we misdiagnosed it and you "Approved" the work'. They do not stand behind their misdiagnosis. I have not had this issue elsewhere- dealerships or other big-box repair shops. Another situation - I went in for a check engine light; they replaced a spark plug. The same thing is still occurring even now after my car has had all of its spark plugs changed, and I personally found a broken air hose in the engine and fixed it myself. They went with the computer code but never actually diagnosed the problem. I'm not driving rare cars. When I reflect back on previous cars I've had issues with, the same pattern occurs - I take it in, the problem is not fixed, I am quoted a large estimate, I buy another car - the savings I perceived to have were never worth it. I highly recommend NOT going to this place. They overcharge for parts and labor. You are better off going to a dealership.

They have a shuttle to and from home. Perfect temperatures in front and back seats on 110 degree plus days. On one drive back to the shop a cop car was pointed out. The driver had seen him ticketing someone earlier. This was the third time he saw him in that area. I tend to have a lead foot. Possibly saved from a traffic ticket on the way home as I drove slower than normal on that day. Besides the work being done, I asked if the air filter could be checked. I had went to Take 5 for an oil change a few months earlier. As I sat in my car at Take 5 after the oil was changed, I heard banging and the car was shaking. They didn't have my size air filter in stock and had to force my old one back in the car. Steve at Sunland later said my air filter was the correct size and was very clean. No need for replacement. I was pleasantly surprised. Scott, the owner was very helpful explaining what was needed to fix my car. Fair prices and great service. Sunland Auto Service is my new go to for my auto needs in the future. read more

Sunland has been consistently honest and generous with me. I have had multiple cars diagnosed and fixed by them. At my most recent visit I brought my 06 Accord in because it dumped all the coolant out while I was driving. They pressure tested it and confirmed that the radiator cap I had was not fitting correctly. They replaced the cap for no charge. Also no charge for the diagnosis either. Places like this are few and far between. They are wonderful. I can't stop singing their praises!! Bring your car here. You won't be disappointed! read more

I'll try keeping this as short as I can. My family and I was on a road trip for the Christmas holiday. We started having some loss of power issues (no check engine light) in Southern Utah and with no shops open, we limped it to our destination in Gilbert, AZ. Took our rig (2000 Ford Excursion w/ V-10) to Sunland Auto and Randy was who took my information and such. They diagnosed the issue to being a bad catalytic converter. They called, informed me of the problem and the cost of repair, I gulped (those suckers are expensive, I know, but still hurts) and said do what needs to be done. Super quick version - That catalytic converter went bad while in California, was told it would be covered under warranty, it wasn't due to sublet being used for initial repair, Sunland Auto (Scott) reimbursed me still. Thank you, Randy and Scott, for working with me and taking care of my family the way you did. Not so quick version - Sunland Auto got it replaced (and checked and recharged my A/C system per my request) and I got the rig back. All went well; we then went to Southern California for leg two of our trip and the rig ran well all the way there. While in CA, I was leaving to go to church and noticed something was off and limped the rig back around the block. Got it into a shop the next day. Long story short there, the catalytic converter was bad. Seems unlikely to get a defective one, but the rig was running well, had different shops look at it and none noticed anything mechanical going on to think the rig was destroying the catalytic converter that quickly. I called Randy at Sunland Auto and explained the situation, prior to taking it to another shop. He was sorry to hear I was having car troubles and let me know if it is in fact the catalytic converter, that Sunland Auto is part of a nationwide warranty program and it would be covered, so to take it to a shop, get it diagnosed, and circle back. So, once it was diagnosed to be the catalytic converter, I worked with Randy on next steps. He told me there were some shops in network with the warranty provider, but that ended up not working out as one was backed up a couple of days and the other seemed uncertain about the warranty claims system (person behind the desk said the owner deals with that). So, I end up calling the nationwide warranty provider for some insight, they give me a couple more shops (most won't be of help, jiffy lube, body shops, etc.) and also tell me I can go out of network, I would just need to submit the claim myself. I decided to go that route as we needed to get back on the road to head home to Montana. We get a new catalytic converter and make it home. I work on the warranty claim. I get informed that because a sublet was used to do the repair, there is no warranty. I at first understood this to be that I used a shop that was disqualified and was disappointed. I call Randy, explain the situation to him and he collects information from me, who I spoke with, etc., and get clarification for himself. He gets back to me and says he also must have been misinformed about the use of sublets. He asks me to send him the invoices of the shops I had do the work in CA and he would send the situation to the owner (Scott I believe is the owner). While I wait a few days, I reread the email from the nationwide warranty and realize the reason they will not honor it is because Sunland Auto used a sublet to do the catalytic converter replacement, therefore the was no warranty. Now I understood that situation better. I reach out to Randy via email, forwarding him my conversation with the nationwide warranty rep and share my new realized understanding and ask if this is the situation. Randy forwarded my email to Scott, and Scott reached out asking me to call him so we can work out me getting reimbursed. We got it worked out and I was reimbursed for the charge of having the catalytic converter replaced by Sunland Auto. It wasn't as smooth as one would hope, but I am grateful that Sunland Auto cared enough about me, someone that was an out-of-state visitor, to still be willing to honor their work and reputation and reimburse me for the charged amount since it could not be done via warranty. I appreciate that Randy took time to work with me, because I know the shop is a very busy shop, and for good reason. Thank you again Randy for being available to answer my questions and concerns, and working on making sure I was taken care of, and to Scott for getting me taken care of. read more

They found out why the A/C wasn't blasting cold air too, a different auto service hadn't plugged them back in and it was leaking! Recently had my check engine light come on and called for an appt. Steve was extremely helpful in asking what was needed, what timeframe I was hoping to get in and making an appt within a week. When I dropped my car off, they were very busy as it was Monday morning but they were helpful and got all my information within 10 minutes. I would recommend having someone come grab you so you don't wait as it may take a few hours to get fixed (as it should with good service). Steve called me back in the afternoon with an update, pricing expectations and how quickly everything could be complete. It ended up being complete by end of day and I grabbed it early the next morning. Overall, the service was amazing and every interaction with them was positive. I can't believe I haven't already done this. I have been taking my cars to Sunland for at least 15 years. They are the only garage I have trusted with my cars and those of my children. My dad, who always did his own mechanic work, only trusted Sunland for those issues he couldn't take care of himself. I have always found Scott to be honest in his pricing and his assessments. If he says something needs to be done, it does. If he says it will need to be done, but not quite yet, I am comfortable with waiting to take care of it. I haven't logged into Yelp for years. I don't write Yelp reviews. But I had to stop what I was doing, reset my password, and take some time out of my day to make sure everyone knows that Sunland Auto is the greatest car repair shop in Arizona. I'll explain why. Sure, they can fix your car. Lots of places can fix your car. But the weird thing about Sunland Auto is that they're absolutely *obsessive* about their integrity. They won't upsell you. They won't overcharge you. I think Scott might actually be the most honest man on earth. I've been taking my cars here for years, and I've lost count of how many times I've looked at an invoice and thought, "That's it? That's all you're charging?" When was the last time you went to a mechanic and thought, "Guys, seriously, you can charge me more than this"? I've had that thought many times after they discounted or waived fees as a courtesy. They've built such an excellent reputation that they're always full. They've got so much going on that there's almost nowhere to put your car when you go. And it might take them a while to get to it. I don't care. It's worth it. I've been taking all my family's cars here for years, and they've never, ever let us down. Ever. (Meanwhile, every *other* mechanic I've been to has either disappointed me or ripped me off pretty much every time.) If I moved all the way to the other side of the Valley, I would still take my cars here every time, even if I had to walk back because it's so far I couldn't get a ride. They're that good. (And Scott would probably find out and insist on driving me home himself.) Sunland Auto is a treasure and they must be protected at all costs. read more

Went in specifically for Transmission Fluid and Filter change. I was told the only thing they don't do there is change tires. The quality of the service itself was fine, putting new fluid in and all that. The problem is I needed my filters changed as well. I was told to my face that CVT transmissions don't have filters, which was after my service was completed. That makes no sense. You're telling me I spent 300 dollars for you to suck the fluid out and put in new fluid without you changing the filters? My transmission fluid was BROWN. I was lied to twice about how my transmission is, as well as apparently they don't change transmission filters. Then I was told that they don't usually work on cars with CVTs. But you work on Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Toyota..? If you couldn't provide the service that I went in there for, don't lie to my face and sell me a half-ass job that I only find out about after the fact. Don't tell me that you're going to order the "parts" but you could fit me in for that day, proceed to have my car for 4 hours and you did the most basic part of the job. You want someone to do the job the right way, thoroughly? Go to the Auto Bar. For a Mitsubishi Lancer, mine specifically, it has two filters for the transmission. They found them and took care of it. It was that simple. On top of that, don't twist your words with me and say that you said there's no filters in a CVT transmission that you personally do there, not the original statement which was "There are no filters in CVT transmissions". Not happy with the twisted words and lying. Again, go to the Auto Bar for FULL SERVICE on whatever it is that you need. read more

My oil change guy told me I had an oil leak and wouldn't change my oil, so I reached out to Sunland and Scott got back to me quickly, and was able to get the car in for diagnosis within a day or 2. After looking at the car, turns out it was apparently my CV boot was leaking and slinging grease underneath the car. Scott got me an estimate for the repair same day, and was able to get it done same day. Overall great experience at Sunland. read more

I was excited to find a shop in my neighborhood. They did a great job on my truck, they fixed it fast and were informative. I brought my old car and they started by giving me a solution, then the nightmare started. No more communication or updates for 3 weeks while I'm waiting on the quote for the fix. I didn't try to negotiate for any cost savings just wanted it fixed. Bottom line never has a shop changed overnight. If they didn't want to change my tranny that I have in my garage, say no and give me my car. I went and got the car not one apology or explanation. read more

I really hate to leave this review, but even after a few days of picking up my truck I felt the need to leave this review. I made an appointment for my truck to get a few things done, I dropped it off at 715 in the morning. I then had to make 4 calls that day to see what was going on. The owner informed me they hadnt started to work on it yet, only had one diesel mech, and they dont have a lift to really look at things. I reminded him I needed the truck by COB the next day to leave for a vacation. We spoke again later that evening when he told me it was throwing EGR sensors as well. Agreeing to talk in the morning I called him at 11 to see what the problem was and I still had no answer. The owner kept informing me ranges it could be for the problems it may be. I called back at 1 to get another update and I was met with yet again with excuses of not having an answer for anything. At this point, They had my truck for 2 days an had no real answers or a estimate to give me on cost of repairs, I went to go pick up my truck and after checking in, the owner came inside and started showing a customer his new gun he had just purchased and left me standing there for about 10 minutes until he said he had to check on where my vehicle was. He came back and told me that they had to move 4 or 5 cars to get it out from their back...I had an appointment to get my truck fuel filter done, transmission filters replaced, and a knock sensor replaced, and they simply put my truck in the back didnt look or touch it or try to give me an estimate. they are to busy and to much of a mess for new customers. They may have been good once, but this place is a major bust. read more

I've taken 10 separate vehicles to Sunland Auto over the years for my family. Never been disappointed. What I like formost, or course is the utmost honesty is an industry that's plagued with deception. Second, is the diagnosis. Like goign to a doctor you need to have the proper diagnosis. They do this accurately and effectively every time and back it up. I've had issues reoccur and they are addressed immentelty and without charge. They also have solid intergity to not be salesy and tray and upsell. The you what needs to be done correctly. I find the price point to be a degree higher than other shops, but in the end its the old adage "You get what you pay for" and a trustworthy mechanic shop is well worth it. read more

The major oil leak of 2023 in our house. My daughter's car (Kia Soul) discovered on a Friday night...of course. Sunland got us in first thing Monday morning. I was unable to be there so was curious how it would go. They treated my wife and daughter with the utmost respect. New oil pan and she was back on the road by Monday afternoon. Hands down, Sunland is THE BEST auto service I've been to...ever!!! Wonderful service from check-in to check-out. Scott (the owner) is very knowledgeable, personable, and professional. He takes the time to explain the work that he and his mechanics perform and seem to care about you and the health of ur vehicle. His prices are reasonable & the price that I was quoted for the work performed was exactly the price i paid! They were busy when I arrived at around 8am, but they were able to get me out the door within an hour! Also, I told Scott that my dealership told me that my brake system needed to be flushed. Sunland Auto checked it for me and told me it was fine & that my car was in optimum condition! They could've easily said that my brake system needed flushing & charged me, but they took the high road and gave me an honest assessment instead.
