I dropped by the Aamco store on Southern avenue in Tempe on 1/26/18 to have the brake pads replaced…read moreon my 2015 Jeep. I had a coupon and felt that the $129 per axle was a fair price. They took my vehicle for a test ride and determined that the brake pads still had a lot more life left in them. It would have been easy for them to replace the brake pads anyway and I would have been now the wiser. But this is what made the experience different, Tom Schuldner, the store manager went out of his way to let me know that the brake pads had a lot of life left in them. He could have done the work as I requested and I would have driven away contented. It's refreshing to see an automotive repair shop with integrity.

I brought my 2001 Ford ranger xlt to get my transmission fixed. It has a 1+2 hard shift…read more The owner was very unprofessional. He had a mix of defensiveness , liability avoidance , and not a real diagnosis. He test drove my truck hard to avoid reproducing the problem, he asked me 3 times if I'm a mechanic and if I can work on transmissions, he was trying to size up liability risk. He handled it poorly. My transmission has a hard1+2 shift handles under normal /light throttle . He should've driven the way I described and knowledged the symptom right away. Instead he tried to dismiss it under heavy throttle (bad test method) then backed out once he knew I've been working on it. My truck drives fine on highway speeds, has no slipping, no burnt fluid or metal, issue is isolated to shift timing/pressure. That strongly supports valve body/hydraulic issue, not a full transmission failure. Bottom line he handled it poorly. I wasn't asking for a rebuild, just a diagnosis . Felt like they didn't want to deal with anything that required real trouble shooting.
