I brought my BMW to Bavarian Motors for a relatively simple issue: a faulty window regulator and a request to inspect the door handle. They quoted me $300 to address the door handle. Reasonable enough -- or so I thought. When I returned to pick up the car, I was blindsided with a $900 bill for the door handle repair. Their excuse? It was "hard to fix" and "the owner Andrew had to get involved." Not once was I called, consulted, or asked to approve these additional charges. The basic rule of any reputable shop -- get authorization before tripling the price -- was completely ignored. When I questioned the charge, I was given a long, condescending lecture about the complexity of BMWs. I decided to pay the bill just to get my car back and be done with the situation. But the worst was yet to come. The door handle is now completely broken -- I can't even open the door from the inside. I had a certified BMW master technician inspect the car, who confirmed the handle was damaged due to poor installation. In other words, Bavarian Motors not only overcharged me without permission, they also botched the job. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I expected competent work and professional communication. What I got was unauthorized charges, subpar workmanship, and a broken vehicle. Avoid Bavarian Motors at all costs. I've been a loyal Mini and Mercedes owner for years and have recommended this shop to many friends and family because of their great work and ability to beat dealer prices. While I no longer live in the area, my daughter needed help with her Mini, so I naturally suggested this shop. However, things took a frustrating turn. She spoke with an older gentleman who made the process sound straightforward and affordable. She set an appointment, but when she arrived, a younger employee gave her a completely different story. The charges for the brake pads, rotors, and other services were far higher than what had been discussed. Mini of Tempe beat the price, after she decided not to proceed with the repairs, the younger mechanic still wanted to charge her just for putting the car on the rack and diagnosing it. Unfortunately, this experience has cost them a customer, which is really disappointing. I know the original owner took great pride in the work they did, so I'm assuming they still do, but this experience has been frustrating. Take it with a grain of salt, I suppose. read more

I took my car here about 6 months ago and albeit their prices were comparable to the dealership their service was completely subpar. The guy who was mansplaining how things work was more interested in being jealous of me & my car than he was in actually providing an integrity based service. If I'm going to pay that much (same as dealership) to have something done to my car, I want to be treated with respect and not talked down to because I'm a woman or you're jealous. So I took it to the dealership, paid the same price and got treated with respect. Go figure. Wasn't necessarily looking into becoming a Mini convert, but was in the need of a used vehicle (my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee died). David at Bavarian is the younger brother of one of my friends and previous co-workers, so I hit him up to ask his advice about a few used BMW's I was checking out on OfferUp, since I know nothing about them except that they are pricey to fix/maintain. Picked his brain for a bit, and quickly realized David is one of the most genuinely honest mechanics I've ever met. At the end of the conversation, I out-right asked if he knew of anyone selling a vehicle. His response was "Yeah, actually. We have a Mini Cooper here... but you probably wouldn't want it. It's a great car, and well taken care of.. but it's a stick". It took me all of two seconds to exclaim, "I can drive the hell out of a stick!!" Went to take a look at it, met Andrew the owner of the shop, test drove it, and the rest is history! It's a match made in Mini heaven! David is mindful of every added cost and does a very good job of communicating what to expect before, and while these guys are doing work on my car. He's quick to provide explanations and options; additionally explaining what I do and don't need to do now or ever. For example, when I asked about a repair I was told was needed by the dealership's shop, he explained how although some piece of that component was showing wear and eventually I might need to replace it - it might never actually get to that point and I should only replace it if needed. Having a car repaired is a headache and costs money - some cars more than others. It's nice to feel that when I leave, not only have I been treated fairly, but I always am confident I'm aware of what's going on with my car and what I do/don't need to worry about for the foreseeable future. read more

I took my BMW here to get several issues resolved. The work only lasted 6 months before EVERYTHING they "fixed" malfunctioned. This shop changed out several seals that began to leak oil shortly after which caused my belt to seize prematurely and caused several other engine problems. I did not take my vehicle back to them and resolved the issues at BMW on Camelback. This shop is marginally cheaper than BMW, but the repairs did not last in my case. I do not recommend. Additionally, when I called this shop to get the issues fixed the representative i spoke to did not seem apologetic in any way. The fact that they will charge you an additional diagnostic fee for work they did prior is flabbergasting! read more

I hit something on the freeway on-ramp and lost power. The second call I made was to Bavarian informing them I was coming in on a flat bed. AAA towing rocked and I eas there in no time. Andrew called and told me what the problem was and its cost. I asked if its possible to add oil change and engine mounts. We'd discussed mounts at the last visit, there was a wear mark on an pipe. I was expecting at least another day to get my car fixed. It took about 38 hours from accident time to fix plus adding in extra repairs to get my car back. And affordable for BMW! Will probably buy another BMW just because this shop is THAT good! Absolutely THE place to go if you own a BMW! Had some problems after we purchased a BMW last year from a private seller. I'd done extensive amounts of the research (multiple spreadsheets over months) on used cars and this 325i was THE car. We are young, on a budget, and had one shot to get it right. Shortly after purchasing, we started seeing code errors, having problems driving, etc. Insert more research here- researching became a second job. I thought I'd narrowed down a few possible problems, but I'm no expert. I started calling car places in the area to take it in to get looked at. Well, it has an SMG transmission, which isn't typically installed on a 325i. Every place I called thought I was an idiot didn't know what car model I had. Once those shops realized I wasn't joking, they acted like it was a damn unicorn and didn't want to even see it- telling me to take it to the dealership (the BMW dealership charges +$100/hr to inspect it!!) I found Bavarian Motors right here on Yelp; talk about a miracle! David was able to see us real quick one afternoon to look at our code errors and put in a relay (part.) He told us that the person who sold us the car had reset the codes (shady!!) It did, so we dropped it off in the morning for an actual appointment. Come to find out it could likely be a transmission problem (approx. $6K) but David didn't want to jump straight to that without making sure it wasn't something else. It was THANKFULLY only a leak which was a few hundred instead of a few thousand. David explained every part of the process, our options, and answered all of our questions in ways we could understand. It's SO refreshing to go to a car place that knows what they're doing, is honest, and doesn't try to rip you off. We've had the car for just over a year now and been back a few times for routine services. Always top notch service. Our Corolla is getting up in age and I'm planning to get another BMW just because this shop has an A+ in Skills & Integrity. read more

The gentlemen are always up front and courteous. Yes it's expensive to repair a BMW. The price of ownership. When I first bought my pre-owned 325i I knew I would need to find a good shop that would not gouge me every time it made a strange noise, or a light came on the dash... This was shop #2 (of 3) that I tried. I knew I had a coolant leak and Ray and crew accurately assessed it by replacing EVERYTHING in the cooling department to the tune of $1,400. Ugh fine, in AZ that last thing I wanted to worry about was the stupid cooling. Now the tragedy (kinda) I drove to LA in the BMW all happy as could be, and upon arrival a nice lady drove up alongside me and said: "YOUR CAR IS LEAKING GREEN STUFF ON THE ROAD!!" (all obscenities from me omitted) After some distraught moments, and luckily having a gas station/shop 50 feet away, the tech saw that a coolant plug cap on the bottom of the radiator had come completely undone, which was very odd. After replacing the plug and refilling the coolant I was on my way. On Monday I called Ray to ask if this would be an ongoing issue. He seemingly shrugged off my concerns with a "sorry that happened" and sounded like he had more important clients to tend too. I went to this shop based on the other Yelp reviews I had seen about it, and I will be first to admit that Ray does know his stuff when it comes to cars. But overall I was somewhat disappointed with the service I was given and will be moving on to find a better fit for me. read more

After my warranty expired, I found that the dealer all of a sudden had several thousands of dollars of "recommended" service and checks. After speaking to other Mini/BMW owners in the area, I wound up taking my car to Bavarian--that was 3 years ago. Always love the no-BS talk, and honesty that the staff and techs provide. It's no frills--no free loaner cars, or shuttles or even a nice waiting area...and no upcharge to pay for those things. What you get is honesty and service for your car. What more do you want? Today was my first visit to Bavarian, and while it was just an oil change and spark plugs, these guys were quick, fair and friendly, not to mention substantially less expensive than the dealer. I will be taking my '07 335 back as needed in the future. I realized last month it was time to walk away from the shiny showroom and free coffee after Chapman BMW on Camelback refused to complete repairs covered under the CPO warranty (thanks to their liberal definition of "normal wear and tear"). Being a guy who always perfers to have service done at the dealer for convienence, loaner cars, and recourse if there are any problems, it's just too damned expensive to do a BMW Inspection II with fluid flushes. Chapman wanted over $1,200.... Bavarian did it for under $500 and let me choose which fluids would be used on the car. They are friendly people with conversational skills who seem genuinely interested in making sure that you are happy with what you got. There is no pressure to get extra services that you may or may not need, and nobody is trying to sell you things that could do more harm than good, unlike *ahem* Atwood European. I picked up my car at the end of the day as promised, and they'd put my sunscreen in my windshiled while it was parked, and the mechanic came out to help me back out of a tight parking lot. Anyone can perform an oil change and fluid flushes, but it's the little details like being honest, helpful, and pleasant that make the difference. read more

Huge thanks to Bavarian Motors for the fantastic job restoring my poor Mini-S. We've been long-time satisfied customers for routine maintenance and wear-out replacements, but this was a definite stretch. The damage was extensive, yet they went to great pains to get every detail right - duplicating wherever possible the custom features originally chosen. I love my Mini, and they understood the connection. They worked successfully with the insurance adjuster and settlement was equitable and fast. Most of all, the kindness and concern shown for me was amazing. Andrew went out of his way to make sure I had not been injured, and more than once comforted me with the statement, "People are what's important, not cars." Another BMW driver with a GREAT experience from Bavarian Motors Ltd. I never write reviews, but these guys deserve one from me. David found an older recall notice for the problem my BMW was experiencing, and saved me a couple thousands of dollars in repairs. I couldn't have been more surprised or pleased. I'm having an issue with my brakes now, but I'm not nearly as apprehensive about it as I might normally be, as I feel like I have a trustworthy mechanic to bring it to.
