The mechanic that said it was a transmission problem. This business say it was not. A true honest business owner who has a Veteran daughter. Like so many people, I was overwhelmed, scared about the cost, and unsure who I could trust. I felt like I was getting the runaround and hearing that my best option was to trade in my vehicle and buy another one. It was an incredibly stressful time. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion, and that decision changed everything. From the moment I contacted this shop, I was treated with kindness, patience, and respect. After my vehicle was towed to their shop, they took the time to thoroughly inspect my vehicle, explain exactly what was going on, answer every question I had, and never once made me feel pressured. They focused on helping me understand my options so I could make the best decision for my situation. That kind of honesty is rare. In a world where it's easy to feel vulnerable during a major repair, finding people with integrity is priceless. They earned my trust through their transparency, professionalism, and genuine care--not through sales tactics. One of the biggest lessons I learned through this experience is this: always get a second opinion before making a major financial decision about your vehicle. Every transmission and every vehicle is different, especially high-mileage ones. Before agreeing to a service your transmission or deciding to replace your car, take the time to have it evaluated by a reputable transmission specialist at Ken's. If you're searching for an honest transmission shop in Phoenix, I wholeheartedly recommend coming here first. Businesses built on integrity deserve to be recommended, and this is one of them. Thank you for treating me like a person instead of just another customer. You turned one of the most stressful experiences I've had into one that restored my faith that honest businesses still exist. I will gladly recommend you to my family, friends, and anyone looking for a transmission shop they can truly trust.

Headline: $50,000 in Family Business and Zero Accountability: A Warning to Diesel Owners…read more Rating: 1/5 Stars I am a mechanic of 30 years. My brother is also a certified mechanic. We trusted Bill at State to State Transmission with four of our vehicles, spending over $50,000 in total. My 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 alone accounted for $12,000 of that for what was promised to be a "bulletproof" build for my hauling business. Instead of a reliable work truck, I have been met with repeated mechanical failures, thousands in towing fees, and a complete lack of professional decency. The Mechanical Failures: My stock transmission lasted 250k miles of heavy hauling. Bill's "bulletproof" build hasn't even made it 50k miles. The truck has been back to his shop three times for the same failures. Most recently, I was stranded in Tucson with no forward gears. When I pulled the codes, they pointed directly to parts Bill claimed were "better than OEM" and "guaranteed not to fail." They failed. Furthermore, when the truck was first towed in, the ECM was perfect. When I got it back, the ECM was shorted and burnt. Bill took zero responsibility, forcing me to source a replacement myself. The Warranty & Conduct: Bill talks a big game about "standing behind his work," especially when bad-mouthing other shops, but he does not honor his own word. Every time his work fails, he becomes argumentative, dismissive, and condescending. He treated me like an "ignorant fool" despite my three decades in the industry. He demands the truck be towed back to him (from Show Low or Tucson) but refuses to cover the massive towing costs caused by his faulty workmanship. He consistently looks for excuses to void the warranty rather than fixing the problem. The Financial Toll: Between the original $12k build, the $10k spent at a previous shop (which Bill promised to rectify), and the now-estimated $7,500 to finally fix this correctly elsewhere, I will have $30,000+ into a transmission for a 2006 truck. The Verdict: Do not be fooled by the bravado or the promises of a "30-year guarantee." Bill showed no kindness or decency to a family that spent $50,000 at his shop. If you rely on your truck for your livelihood, stay away. The "bulletproof" promise is empty, and the customer service is nonexistent.

In many cases he not only replaces the wear materials during a rebuild, but he makes modifications or upgrades to fix the manufacturer's weaknesses. Of the more than 20 years that I have used State to State Transmissions I have only had one issue, it was a small thing, but Bill made it right immediately, what more can you expect?! This is a really great company, ran by an honest guy. I highly recommend State to State if you are having transmission problems with your vehicle.

Dropped my son's car off on March 19th. I was told that the shop was in the process of moving and wouldn't be able to start on the car until the following week. Completely understandable. After 2 weeks, I called for status. I was advised by his wife she would call me back, which she did. Another week goes by and I call and am told waiting on parts. Another week goes by and I call and am told either still waiting on parts or I'll call you back. At this point, I never receive any calls back. Spoke with the owner and was advised the car would be done by following week. Still nothing. Then was told the parts were delivered at the wrong shop. Now this was on April 16th. I expressed to the owner how we would be going out of town, etc. He assured me it would be ready by Wednesday April 18th. Still nothing. Went out of town and came back. Called on the 20th, no answer. Sent a text. No response. On Tuesday, April 21st, finally spoke to the owner who ensured me the car would be ready by today and as a courtesy, he will bring the car to me on Wednesday, April 21st. Well, that day came and gone. Tried calling to get an eta, no response. Sent text, no text. So today, still no car. This makes 5 weeks and to make it even worst, I saw they read my messages and never responded. Once I admitted to then I saw they were reading my messages, they must of figured out who to turn it off. I really didn't want to go this route. I really tried to work with them and give them the benefit of the doubt since we were referred to them. I tried being humble and not go to the shop, still nothing. So now, I'm left with no car, having to do a horrible review, and attach screen shots of the texts. Oh, to make things even worse, the person that referred me and was taking care of the bill, paid already since our work hours are different. I really tried to have patience, but this is unacceptable. I literally called AGAIN, finally answered and his response was, oh I didn't know it wasn't finished because I left the shop. Ok, so what's wrong with communication? Why would you leave the shop yesterday when you assured me YOU were dropping the car off. The last thing I want to do is hurt someone's business. Now I'm being told it will be dropped off no later than 730pm. My son's car was finally dropped off on April 25th around 8pm. Asked for the invoice, was advised it was emailed to my son's father and would email me a copy. Oh, also, he broke my son's driver's door handle and told me he ordered a new one. Here it is May 16th, still no invoice and no update on the door handle. Finally, I was scheduled to bring my son's car in on at 9am for a follow up to make sure there were no leaks and to get the door handle replaced. Well, unfortunately since he wanted us to drop the car off, I had to reschedule. We rescheduled for June 9th at 9am. Upon arriving, building doors were locked and no one is here. Calling, calling, calling and texting no answer. Finally, Shawn answers and I said what the fuck is going on. He said don't be cussing at me and hung up. Called back and no answer. I am beyond frustrated Finally called back and Shawn answered and I started talking in a normal voice trying to express my frustration no cursing and he told me he was done with me and he would deal with my husband only. So I gave the phone to my husband, which he told my husband that he would need to call his employee and see why no one is here. Well, he called back to tell my husband he couldn't get a hold of his employee and he would be here in 15 minutes. Finally, about 30 minutes later, he shows up. I remained in the car. My husband got out and spoke with him. He told my husband it will take 3 hours to check the car out and replace the door handle. My husband agreed and advised Shawn that he is taking his word. In addition, we asked about the invoice and his response was that my son's father has the invoice. He told my husband that it should be done by 3pm and he will follow up with him. In the meantime, I texted my son's father and confirm he never receive an invoice via email. So 3pm comes and my husband calls and speaks with Eva. Eva stated that the car is still being worked on and she would follow back with him. 5pm comes and my husband gets a call that the vehicle is ready. We go and pick up the vehicle. In addition, my husband asks for an invoice as well, which we finally got. While leaving, my son's father texts to say he finally received an invoice. Never ever again. If you choose to use Denny's Transmission, I hope your experience is way better than ours.

We picked up our rental car from the airport, and shortly afterward, we ended up with a blown tire--right as Blackwell Automotive was getting ready to close for the day. We were in a tough spot. The nearby gas stations couldn't help us, and the tire shop across the street had already closed. Seeing that Blackwell Automotive was still open felt like an absolute blessing. Even though it was the end of the day, they took the time to help us without hesitation. Their kindness, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile completely turned our evening around. Instead of spending the first night of our vacation stranded and stressed, we were able to get back on the road and enjoy our trip. It's rare to find businesses that genuinely care about helping people the way they did. They didn't just fix a tire--they saved the first day of our vacation, and that's something we'll never forget. Thank you to everyone at Blackwell Automotive. If you're looking for an honest, caring, and dependable shop, this is the place to go.
