4.5 stars, My highest rating on a first visit. I got a sausage and ricotta slice to go. One slice is 1/4 of a pizza, so keep that in mind. It's about seven bucks which I think is fair. It was very tasty. I will definitely be back. read more

I really wanted to try Ernesto's Pizza after hearing a few people claim it was the best in Boston. I won't be able to determine that because I am still yet to try Regina's which I'm also told is the best in Boston. Either way I was excited as I always am to try good pizza. They have a small storefront in the North End district of Boston (Italian area). We walked in, and headed straight to the back and ordered our slices. Two cheese slices, one cheese pepperoni and one margarita. Now what you have to realize about these slices is they are 1/4 of the pizza. That's right, one slice is 1/4 of a large pizza. The crust had a fairly sturdy undercarriage. I felt that the cornicione was not airy enough. It seemed like a 24-hour dough versus a 48 hour. The sauce had a subtle sweetness and the cheese was excellent. The young gentlemen that served us was great. Really good dough. Hand tossed, cooked just right, and tons of flavor. The chicken, broccoli, and mushroom with white sauce sucked if I'm being honest- the sauce was super bland. The crust made up for it and gets the place 4 stars still. The red sauce was good- could use a little more spice to it but ultimately this place makes a good pie. Small cramped seating but you're not there to feel fancy. Nice big window helps a lot. Service was okay. No signs saying what each pizza was and had to ask over and over about different options instead of just having someone tell us all at once. Pizzas aren't in a warmer so they have to get reheated when you order a slice. Slice was just barely warm and would've been much better if it was actually hot. read more

I was happy that, per a very clean and socially responsible recycling trash can over the Central Artery's park-like lid with an advertisement for Ernesto's, I could grab a slice of pizza or two and that would constitute lunch in Boston's North End. In reality, I had seen this trash can before and filed the ad away in my head for future reference. So, you see, clever advertising reeled me in, too. However, this isn't for something shlocky. It's for pizza and it can serve as a meal. The advertisement mentioned that Ernesto's features Boston's biggest slice of pizza. And they probably do. It's very easy to get here from the park over the Central Artery. It's but a block or so away. Also, it's a small store and there isn't much seating. All of the pizzas available as pies or by the slice are on display. They are not labeled, either because they keep sliding in new ones as they make them or because they just don't label them. It's easy to figure out what the standard ones are. However, with some of the more "esoteric" ones, one might have to ask. I got two slices. I probably shouldn't have. The slice with pepperoni was devoured quickly. The other one took more effort and I didn't finish it. (What? And I go to buffets?) That was my fault for ordering pizza with ricotta on it which, in my opinion, makes pizza taste too bland. The experience was mostly okay, with their two huge slices making for too big of a meal, and with the demerits being somewhat disinterested customer service, variability in how good the pizza flavors were, and too thick of a crust for my taste. They were looking for staff ... maybe being asked what flavor the pizzas in the glass case are over and over causes them to experience burnout, but I doubt it. In addition to tourists, I did see a lot of locals. They were smartly having one large slice of pizza with something to wash it down - they do have a soft drink machine. They've probably been able to zero in on which type of pizza they like. So, for me, Ernesto's was a 3 star experience. However, for those who have this routine dialed in terms of selecting their favorite slice of pizza among those offered, it could be a 4 star experience. read more

Quick pizza stop! I had the ricotta fried eggplant and my husband had the cheese pizza. It needed to be a bit warmer. Seemed like it's been sitting there all day. However, it still tasted very good. I like the dough and crust with ricotta and fried eggplant. I just wish it was steaming hot. I think the server didn't heat it long enough. Small little shop but quick service. read more

Ordered delivery to our hotel after a long day, the food came quick and warm, I'm impressed by their speed in making the pizzas. Presentation was nice as well! We got the garden salad, pepperoni pizza, and Buffalo chicken supreme pizza. My dad said the salad was OK- it came with a handful of olives, 2 cucumber slices, maybe 1/3rd of a tomato and a BUNCH of lettuce. If you just want to eat a bunch of lettuce- the garden salad is for you. I didn't try the pepperoni pizza, my dad said it was really good and my brother said "too oily", so we had a split opinion. Me and my mom ate the Buffalo supreme, and as someone who doesn't eat pizza often, this had me coming back for 2nds and 3rds. I loved it, it has nice flavor and the peppers and chicken were perfectly spread throughout the pizza. I would definitely recommend the Buffalo chicken supreme, it hit the spot. Overall, a pretty solid pizza place. Skip the salad and go right for the pizza, that's what you came here for! read more

Solid place to get your pizza fix. They sell pizza by the slice for $5-7 depending on the flavor, and by "slice" they mean a whole quarter of the pie. It's heated up for you so the bottom is nice and crispy, like a NY style pizza. Nothing fancy, but a good place to stop by if you're in the area. read more

Yet ANOTHER review that I KNOW I WROTE & PUBLISHED, but its MISSING from the end of June. This is The North End, so hours are not actually set in stone. I was there waiting for hours, but couldn't get inside, and it was extremely humid & hazy that day, and it suddenly turned into a rainstorm. So, I never got to go inside. I LOVE the pizza here! And I hadn't been here IN YEARS, due to COVID, but I STILL didn't get to go inside, because I guess Sundays mean they open whenever they feel like it in June. That's REALLY a shame, because I had SO MUCH CASH TO JUST BLOW in here! But, you guys just didn't seem to want to open up, and I could see and hear you guys INSIDE THERE! I've tried Ernesto's North End on two occasions. The first time I ordered pizza by the slice which was reheated to order. The second occasion I ordered a whole pizza which they made to order. The fresh pizza was much better than the pizza by the slice. The whole pizza took under 10 minutes to make. The crust was perfect and crunchy without the flop. The cheese and ricotta cheese topping was a little thick and kept falling off. But overall very good pizza. I'd say 5 star for the fresh made pizza and 3 star for the pizza by the slice. Workers were very friendly and the pizza with toppings was about $27 which was very reasonable. read more

On our first night in Boston, my siblings and I headed over to North End to try out their pizza. I had Ernesto's bookmarked as a spot to try. We were pretty hungry, as we skipped lunch. So, we ordered their 18 inch pizza with mushrooms and Italian sausage to go. It was ready in about 20 minutes, and it was piping hot. We went to a nearby park to devour our pizza pie. It was delicious. The dough and crust were the best part. Just the right amount of char and a crispy, and slightly chewy crust. They were very generous with the toppings for the price. My only complaint would be that there might've been too much tomato sauce. Otherwise, this was a solid spot for pizza to start our Boston trip. read more

Their slices are the BEST! When in Boston, you must go to Ernesto's and get a slice and a coke! Service is quick abd it's a sweet restaurant that's been around for many many decades. Used to go there weekly back in the late 80's early 90's during my Berklee days. Plus my wife and I had our first lunch date there in '93. read more

While walking down north end I saw a sign that says Ernesto's has a large slice of pizza. Me being someone who loves pizza had to stop by! Looking at the selections I was instantly drawn to the cheese burger pizza. So I ordered it and they heated it up for me. The cheese burger pizza was hot, and the crust was super crunchy! What shocked me was that it tasted exactly like what a big mac tasted like just in pizza form. The pizza was also huge (1 slice was pretty much 2 slices). Overall, while I wouldn't get the cheese burger pizza every time the fact that they nailed the taste is a 5 star for me. I would definitely come back yo try their other pizzas! read more

I've been here twice so far... is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. Still, don't let that distract you from the fact that it's still darn good, and a great value to boot! Haters gonna hate, but it is downtown Boston, so I think the price is reasonable. I've had to opportunity to try the cheeseburger and Margherita pizzas. I will repeat what all most all of the other people have stated: The "slices" or a quarter of a pizza, and a large one at that. At the same time the pizza is thin, so you're not left feeling bloated or as if you've overeaten. Being thin also helps keep the tomato sauce, cheese, and crust somewhat in balance. To be fair, though, I would have preferred a little more cheese and tomato sauce, as is the case with Neapolitan pizza. A note regarding heft, I found the cornicione (edges) too big relative to the rest of the pizza. Furthermore, they weren't exciting enough to warrant being eaten almost like a breadstick, and I'm not one of those people who leaves pizza crusts uneaten. An option of dipping sauce would be great! Toppings were pretty good! The cheese was solid, and the tomato sauce definitely tasted "real", and not from a can. With both the Margherita and cheeseburger, the quantity was spot on. The slices were neither weighed down, nor did they experience a dearth of toppings. My gripe, however, is regarding the cheeseburger. Tomato sauce, especially when it's real has a fair bit of acidity. Pickles by themselves are fine, but added to a pizza created a very high acid content. My advice is to simplify, and allow fresh ingredients shine on their own: especially onions, lettuce, maybe tomato slices. Finally, those dang slices... I'm a guy who likes to mix it up. Allowing actual slices (1/8th instead of 1/4) would allow me to do more of what I love: mixing and matching. On the other hand,they'd lose the title of largest slice, and I don't want to be the one telling Ernesto's how to run their shop. A solution would be to bring some friends to come with! Who's down? Overall, if you're looking for piping hot fresh amazing pizza, this may not be your best bet. On the other hand, if you're looking for something quick, yummy, filling, and a great value, then this is your place. The slices reheat quick, come on down (and take me with you)! read more

Amazing pizza in Little Italy. One slice of pizza is huge and is actually two slices. The cheese and sauce mixed well, nothing to overwhelming or too much of something. The service is very quick and welcoming, it does get crowded however! The crust was a little too bready/dough like to be eaten. And it would be a good idea to put on napkin containers on each table. Now let's address the elephant sitting at the table with no water: the service. Everyone complaining? They're not wrong. It's slow. Like... "you start reconsidering your life choices while waiting for a bottle of water so you can serve yourself" slow. And yes, management should absolutely just lean into reality and overstaff the place. It would solve everything. BUT and this is important, if you walk in knowing that, you're fine. The staff, when they get to you, are genuinely kind and friendly. It's not bad service, it's just... delayed service. Also, if you've got green hair and are confidently pulling off a look that says "I am both the main character and the plot twist," you will feel right at home here. I don't fully understand it, but I respect the commitment. Just thought people should know going in, just like the delayed service. Bottom line: incredible food, good vibes, patience required. I'll absolutely be back... and I might bring my own water bottle next time just to stay ahead of things.

Penny pinching by a restaurant is not classy. The food comes out and I noticed my order was wrong. The manager comes and asked me what I asked for. I said I pointed at the menu and said salmon eggs Benedict. She began arguing with me. Asking, did you ask for eggs Benedict with salmon or salmon eggs Benedict implying I was asking for salmon on the side. Seriously....get a clue. Cold food and poor service, and food coming out at different times is lousy. To top it off, because my food was slow to come out, a couple came in and pointed at our table requesting it even tho I had booked the table. Simply unbelievable to be kicked off the table after receiving the food so late and the wrong order. If the manager hadn't insisted I asked for eggs Benedict with salmon, and not the salmon eggs Benedict I would have let it slide. But nah... really poor service.

I actually ran into the owner while I was there, and he had explained that their lobster rolls are unique in the sense that they actually toss their lobster meat in a pan with butter. They have a couple of tables out front where you can sit with your pup or if those are filled, just chill on the wall of the flower garden. This place is pretty small so doubt they have bathrooms but if you go across the street, there are public restrooms in the building where Starbucks is - just keep walking toward the harbor and you'll see the entrance on your left.

Baked gnocchi is a must-have. The fresh basil on top of everything was a nice flavorful touch. Generous cheese, generous portions, and quick and personable service.
