But this review is about something bigger than dessert. The strawberry cheesecake here reminds me of my mom. It was her favorite, and it was one of the last desserts I got to share with her. Anytime she wanted a sweet treat, that's what she asked for. Ordering it now keeps me connected to her. This past July, on her 3rd birthday in heaven, I placed an order to celebrate her. The menu only had cherry cheesecake that day, so I wrote a note explaining what the strawberry meant to me. The staff didn't just make it happen, they sent an extra slice of strawberry cheesecake on top of it. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. The people here have always been this kind. We love everyone who works there, and we're grateful for the small moments of care they've shown our family. Thank you for everything.

When I was a kid, my grandmother use to bake me her special cookies. It was only when I was older that I found that they were Rugelach. I have eaten many rugelach in my life, none of them could hold a candle to my grandmothers. At least until now. I was fortunate to receive a gift canister of Ericas Rugelach. They brought back memories of my grandmothers and are just as good. Good thing I dont live in Brooklyn, I live in New Jersey, otherwise I would be at Erica's on a daily basis. When you combine the best quality ingredients with a killer recipe, the result is Erica's rugelach. By far the best I've ever had, and I've had plenty from other bakers that can't hold a candle to Erica's. They are moist, plump, full of flavor. We ordered from Erica's for an engagement party - rugelach and linzer hearts. While we weren't able to go to the event, we got pictures and reviews from the parents of the bride. They loved them - every last one got snapped up. Erica was incredibly helpful, as we were doing it all long distance and having them shipped. I ordered Nuccio's off the Too Good to Go app (a first for me) and got there a few minutes early. However, the app actually makes you wait until your scheduled time to click the button indicating you picked up the goods. The staff member seemed a little annoyed by the situation and even said they usually start the orders half an hour later, but I think they would have to make that correction on the app. I was worried she would pack mediocre goods for me, as the order was for a random bag of "leftovers," since she didn't seem to be in a good mood. However, I was hopeful when I left with one huge bag. I received three croissants, one chocolate frosted donut with cream inside, three brioche buns, and one muffin. The almond croissant was really good; I'd go back for it again. At Rimini's, their almond croissant is just almond flakes on the outside, but at Nuccio's they have almond paste on the inside of the croissant -- so delicious! I would steer clear of their donuts, it was very bland and the texture was no good; even Dunkin' has better donuts! The bread was acceptable in taste but had a really tough texture. The muffin was not memorable.

Walking in to this Bushwick bakery is like stepping back in time. I remember like it was yesterday, going to the bakery in Canarsie with my grandfather Sunday morning to buy local bread and Italian baked goods. A struffoli ring is a must, every year I buy a extra ring for my high school buddy/barber. This Christmas season, I decided to swing by Circo's Pastry Shop and go a little wild! I see the beautiful storefront and park across the street. Walking inside is managed chaos. I can see various baskets ready to be picked up. It seems like my idea, everyone else has as well. I see the owners son from the videos on the phone taking orders and I'm assuming his mom behind the counter. I ask if its ok to take two struffoli baskets but I spy with my little eye Sfogliatelle. I order a few cannoli as well as a Large Sfogliatelle to go. I jump in my jeep and I'm so excited to bring everything home. Except that Sfogliatelle was calling me. I'm on the Long Island Expressway and I ripped that box open like a fiend! OMG, that Sfogliatelle was soooo good! It was very fresh and I was covered with flaky layers. The space is small and dark, but everything is clean and well maintained. I remember thinking "Regina" owned the bakery when I first went inside lol, but I learned that it just means queen in Italian. As for the food, I tend to stay away from black and white cookies outside of Jewish bakeries as they're often disappointing, but these are right on par! Soft cookie, solid, but soft icing. Exactly like a Jewish bakery. The rainbow cookies have spongy cake and the right amount of jelly between layers. The chocolate isn't waxy as often happens in refrigerator cases. The pignoli cookies are another winner, although I preferred the pignoli free version, the amaretti. Chewy on the inside, a little crunch on the outside, just like they should be. And a light dusting of powdered sugar. Jam cookies and crystal sugar sprinkled cookies were similarly delicious. Apple turnover was full of apple and yummy filling, without tasting fake or preserved. Nothing at this place lasts long enough to need to be preserved! The muffins are inventive. I don't even think I covered everything... I got way too much and yet not enough. That's my only gripe is that some of the stuff I look forward to is sold out lol I really have to try the Cannoli! I know, I know... Marie is a wonderful host, as was the employee who served us.
