I work in Bay Ridge but after seeing this sweet Nonno on social media making Sfogliatelle, I knew I had to stop in for some Christmas pastries. Walking in to this Bushwick bakery is like stepping back in time. I remember like it was yesterday, going to the bakery in Canarsie with my grandfather Sunday morning to buy local bread and Italian baked goods. All of the men wore hats, it was something that always stuck with me. This holiday season, I always want to have the same Italian Baked goods in my home. A struffoli ring is a must, every year I buy a extra ring for my high school buddy/barber. This Christmas season, I decided to swing by Circo's Pastry Shop and go a little wild! I see the beautiful storefront and park across the street. Walking inside is managed chaos. I can see various baskets ready to be picked up. It seems like my idea, everyone else has as well. I see the owners son from the videos on the phone taking orders and I'm assuming his mom behind the counter. I ask if its ok to take two struffoli baskets but I spy with my little eye Sfogliatelle. I order a few cannoli as well as a Large Sfogliatelle to go. I jump in my jeep and I'm so excited to bring everything home. Except that Sfogliatelle was calling me. I'm on the Long Island Expressway and I ripped that box open like a fiend! OMG, that Sfogliatelle was soooo good! It was very fresh and I was covered with flaky layers. Found this Italian bakery via the internet as I was seriously craving for the nostalgic taste of Italian cuccidati cookies my grandma and mom used to make. I was specifically looking for an Italian bakery that would mail order as I live in an Italian food desert. The cookies I ordered arrived in a timely manner very well wrapped and very fresh! I liked them so much I ordered more, even though the shipping cost more than the cookies! I may need a 12-step program because I devoured them and less than a week! I loved this bakery! Everything was delicious. The butter cookies -- amazing; the mini cannolis -- amazing in flavor and consistency. The rainbow cookies were hardy and these sweets didn't taste sugary sweet. The cream in the napoleon was a white cream and I prefer more the Boston type cream. Also the bread was soft and I'm accustomed to the crunchy on the outside and nice and soft inside. Nevertheless, loved it and hope to pass through again. I mean...every little thing Circo's does is magic. There aren't that many old school Italian bakeries left in the boroughs any more. I was visiting the neighborhood, on a particularly hot summer day and asked if there were any OS bakeries nearby and was directed to Circo's. I have ordered a number of times from them, shipped to Maryland. Most of the time the cookies arrive more crumbs than anything else; they aren't very conscientious about ensuring quality control. Wow, I must say about Circo's Pastry Shop is it has not disappointed me yet. My family and I just love love love their pastries. They are so delicious tasting, so fresh, had having great quality ingredients, we couldn't resist the temptation for ordering more of their mouth watering goodness. I recommend to give them a try and buy the ones we all ready tried like the rainbow cannoli pastery , the ooey gooey chocolate caramel slice, the Napoleon, the lg fruit tartlet, and the chocolate mousse slice. Ending the year with my first negative comment. I reached out to the owner and conveyed that the biscotti that was sent to a family member in another state were extremely hard and the only way they could be eaten is to dunk them in a liquid. I even sent a picture of how overcooked they were. My brother, who was gifted the biscotti stated, "you could've easily broken a tooth." The owner replied "Regarding your order...that the anise biscotti are twice-baked to achieve their traditional hard, crisp consistency." His response was more like...so what instead of how can I make it right. I would not recommend ordering from out of state. I felt like I was given the discarded items instead of fresh, soft ones that you could eat without dunking. read more

I was really disappointed with Circo's. Got about a pound of cookies, a cannolo, and honey balls the day before Thanksgiving. The bakery was very busy and service was not great. The real let down was the taste. Everything is quite expensive ($65). They have unfilled cannoli shells which I was really looking forward to. I asked if they would fill a cannolo fresh and they said absolutely. I ate the cannolo pretty quickly after I left the bakery, and it was very soggy and definitely not just filled. The shell was not crisp at all and really ruined the whole pastry. The filling was okay but a little too sweet and not worth $6. The cookies were also disappointing being quite expensive. They lacked flavor and were too sweet for what Italian cookies should be. We also had asked for specific cookies added which were not included in the box. read more

So I've been looking for a great Italian bakery in this largely taken over by hipsters area of bedstuy/brooklyn. My family has been going here for years but I never realized how close it was to me! I came here to pick up some pastries. I got a few of the rainbow cookies and a rum baba. The rainbow cookies were good, but being sold at the steep price of $22/lb. Love seeing old school businesses survive nearly a century despite neighborhood changes. When a business has old school neon you know its going to be good. Came here on a recommendation and went with their glazed croissant and napoleon. Who knew a glazed croissant could taste so good?! 10/10. Moist and not overly sweet. Same with the napoleon. Went in with high expectations. Very poor cannolis. It seems like they were filled days prior as the shell was completely soggy. When I tried to pick up the cannoli after I got it, it was collapsing in my hand. I've gotten them from other bakeries before (in NY and Italy) and eaten them hours later and have never experienced this sogginess. These must have been sitting out for at least a few days.
