My husband and I called this place on three separate occasions to try and place a cake order (a small cake for 4 people). The first two times we were told they were unable to meet our request because they needed more advanced notice-- we called 1 week in advance the first time and then 2 weeks the second time. The third time (when we gave even more advanced notice) they didn't even offer an explanation and just stated in an email "we are unable to meet your request." We just requested one of their standard cakes listed on their website, not even anything custom. We don't understand why this company is refusing us service. read more

I got a surprise and a cake was delivered to me from the baker herself! The cake held up so well and it was not crumbly like other cakes. it cut so well (see pictures) and it look like perfection! Cash only = upsetting but expected $3/small cupcake = disappointing, causing the skipping of the passion fruit (half the fault of Dough, but still) and the Baileys winning out. The "Baileys cupcake" was remarkably cakey and incredibly moist but not at all Baileysish. JD and I rushed our little tooshies off to make it here before they closed. It seems like they don't quite adhere to the closing times, as the women working there were working on an elaborate cake when we burst in, and still had quite aways to go. I have to say I was a little disappointed by the cupcakes. $2.50 each, a good size, not the best-looking, good cake, and very odd icing. Let me elaborate a bit on the last point: the flavors are good, but the texture is like butter. It's cold (the cupcakes are chilled), and thick, and slippery in your mouth. Not like the typical icings: soft and whipped, vs. hard/crusty/creamy. It didn't quite work for me (or JD or YY). But if you can get over that, the passionfruit and triple berry are pretty decent. The vanilla and carrot cake are not. If you know me, I hate giving underrated, mom+pop shops negative reviews, but the icing was just so disconcerting, I won't be returning. read more

I found myself in a predicament the day before Thanksgiving. I was without a birthday cake for my wife's fiftieth birthday, the following Monday. Being a rookie, I didn't know that custom-shape birthday cakes had a two-week turnaround. Well, off to Yelp I went. I live in downtown Brooklyn and there were a couple of well-recommended places nearby, one only a few blocks away. Each call went the same: "I'm sorry sir, but it really is too short notice." Understood, I get it, my bad, but I need a cake! So I make one last call to a place called Heavenly Crumbs and the woman who answers says, "I can do that." That was the beginning of a very happy story! My wife loves hats and she's recently just started to fall in love with the guitar, so I was thinking a cake in the shape of one or the other. Once I arrived at Heavenly Crumbs, I met the woman who I'd been speaking with on the phone, who turned out to be the baker/proprietress, Shannon Pridgen or SP, and she suggested a cake in the shape of a hat, with a hatpin in the shape of a guitar! Problem solved! SP was a delightful consultant and guided me through the process in a very calm, knowledgeable and insightful manner. I was totally at ease the whole time and knew that the universe had ultimately delivered me exactly where I needed to be. Come Monday I picked up the cake and it couldn't have come out any more beautifully! A red cap, my wife's favorite, designed from photos I provided, with a guitar hatpin that looked exactly like my wife's guitar, again, painstakingly replicated by SP from a photo I provided. During our dinner celebration with fifteen guests in attendance, we cut the cake and it was even better than it looked! My wife was floored! A delicious red velvet cake, again, my wife's favorite, with a cream cheese icing that was absolutely sublime! I must have written down the number of Heavenly Crumbs for interested parties a half dozen times throughout the evening! I can honestly say that Heavenly Crumbs is a world-class venue owned and operated by a world-class pastry chef. Maybe this is our fault, because the woman behind the counter suggested we wait an hour before eating them since they had been int he fridge. (my kid has been hampering my yelping skills... ) I have had the pleasure of ordering... eating.. and thoroughly enjoying 2 amazing cakes from Shannon and her team - during 2012. (let's not forget cakes I've had at friends event's over the years...all wonderful.) June 2012 - for my son's christening cake.... From our first email contact.... to telephone conversations on the weekend.... Shannon listened to every single detailed request I had... countless emails going back and forth - and not once did she ever seem annoyed... I'm extremely anal - and really knew what I wanted - but also didn't have a $500 budget.... and didn't have a lot of time..... Shannon worked with me to create EXACTLY what I wanted - for a price that I could afford... in a 2 week time frame... something 4 other bakeries couldn't do for me. We had a delicious Lemon Cake/vanilla buttercream....with a gorgeous Bible on top...including a verse I had chosen......and the most intricate cross....it was so befitting and all our guests just stared at it ..with beaming smiles... Everyone went home with HUGE pieces... it was divine.... moist.... but firm... bright lemon flavour.....buttercream was just phenomenal....I can taste it now.....I was even pissed that I gave so much of it away!.........I even left the decorative bible top on my dining table for months after....I couldn't bare to throw it away... So of course! for his 1st Birthday - in October... I reached out to Shannon again.. I had found a pic on-line of an amazing Owl Cake that I wanted.... sent it over... and once again.... wonderful emails....telephone conversations... to go over everything..... This cake was very detailed.. and I can't tell you know much they nailed it....I was in awe....My son has had an organic diet of home cooked food - prepared by me for his entire little life .........but he was allowed Heavenly Crumb's cake!... We went with a Banana Spiced cake...and it was a hit....he loved it... I loved it....and even the "non banana loving" adults present.... enjoyed.....even his grumpy Nana... who doesn't like banana cake... and you know how hard it is to please grandmothers.... I adore my mother... but she can always find something negative to say... but not on this.... I had also included a "smash cake" in my order - which for all you non parents out there... is a mini version of baby/child's birthday cake - used to smash and have a complete mess with ...which makes for great photos...as small as it may be... this smash cake was really an important item - as it was my son's personal cake. On the day of his birthday party - I had my sister in law pick up the cakes... only to realise upon her getting to my apartment ---- - they had forgotten his smash cake! - and we also had a small spelling error on his Owl cake....after calling and alerting them..... Shannon's assistant - came to my apartment with the smash cake - AND.. a container with the corrected letters ---- AND a bakers tool for us to use.... within 40 minutes.......On a busy saturday morning - I think most bakeries would have told you - to come back down for the forgotten item..... and/or to just deal with the spelling error - but not Shannon............ That quick response to rectify these 2 errors - meant a lot to me.... and I even received an email from Shannon the following day to apologise... I've already told Shannon - that she will be making all of my son's cakes going forward - and for any event I have..... Pretty cakes are easy to come by... This little bakery packs a big punch. The passion fruit cupcakes?! Undeniably good. Once I wanted these cupcakes so badly that I trekked over to the store before a flight to China. Yes, it's a pretty fat move to take four oversized cupcakes on an international flight when you're already fighting with your carry on, but at the time I just couldn't escape the temptation of these moist, tart and sweet mouthfuls of deliciousness. My friend's mother had the passion fruit layered cake for her birthday a few years ago, and boy, the table was impressed. The cake was really tasty.. very moist... I didn't enjoy the frosting at all. It was thick, and kind of pasty and grainy. I don't know if the grainy-ness was 100% from the crushed oreos, but it wasn't pleasing to my mouth. I actually scraped it off... that's a first for me. The cupcakes also weren't really that pretty... Looks like the tins were overfilled and they all had these flat mushroom looking tops. Anyway, the cake was delicious. I do laundry right next to this place and am tempted every single time I walk by. The case is chock full of delicious looking cakes along with a small assortment of dangerously good looking cookies. I've had a triple-berry cupcake and an almond and my first bite was revelatory. The cake was a bit firm for my taste, but in both cases the buttercream frosting was out of this world. Shhh... don't tell. Heavenly Crumbs is my favorite "secret" cupcake place. The best cupcakes... I have ever eaten... in my life. These are not the dry, mega-sweet, frosting-stacked cupcakes that you may be used to from Sugar Sweet Sunshine and Magnolia (though don't get me wrong, I loooove sugar sweet). They are rich, RICH. The chocolate is deep, deep, dark, close-your-eyes, moist, springy, ummmmmmmmmmmmm. The frosting is real French style buttercream, which throws a lot of people for a loop. Let's get through this: American buttercream is made on the cheap, without eggs: just sugar and butter. French buttercream, on the other hand, has eggs. LOTS of eggs. The consistency is rich and dreamy. It also changes with temperature. As baker Sam will tell you, it's meant to be eaten at room temperature. Obviously, cupcakes don't keep well at room temp. So you're gonna get it out of the fridge and it's gonna be hard. In fact, it probably won't be very good. Good things are worth waiting for, so let it sit for just a few minutes, and I swear you will be tasting heaven! Every cupcake flavor here really tastes different. The chocolate cake is outrageously delicious - I dunno how she does it! The berry frosting, omigod, incredible. I think that's my favorite combo. Also, these cakes are massive. You're going to want to eat 10, but you're only going to be able to eat one. I recommend sharing! Heavenly Crumbs rocks my world. They specialize in custom cakes but once you bring HC cupcakes to a gathering people will expect you to have them EVERY time. Brought some to my Mom's retirement party in Jersey and she says her friends still ask for them a year later. Scones? I can't stand scones. Somehow I was convinced to try their Maple Glazed French Toast Scone (maybe with sweet potato?) and I lost it. So good. Rum bread pudding also gets my endorsement. Heavenly Crumbs is a sweet little shop with rich and delicious cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and wet breads (banana, etc.). I've had a few flavors of the cupcakes over the years and think the German Chocolate is supreme. Really moist chocolate cake and gooey coconut frosting. You will run your fingers over the box to get every last bit good. Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes also have delicious cake, but the frosting is more of a fluffy whipped buttercream and I prefer a denser icing. Really that's just a matter of taste, though. If the individual cupcake sized cheesecakes are in get a berry one!! So good. Be sure to let it rest to room temp, I was overeager once and it was gummier than usual as a result. Chocolate chip cookies are perfect for breaking and dunking in milk. The brownies are a flat, fudgey, decadent dream. Service has always been really friendly, with the owner making a genuine effort to have substantial conversations. The vibe is very casual, like being part of someone's home.
