Lovely afternoon here so we decided to sit outside. We were politely greeted and seated quickly. Our waitress checked in, introduced herself and got our drink order. We decided to get the rotisserie chicken with mac n cheese and the Carolina Pulled Pork sammich with Bar Harbor macaroni salad. The food came out quick and hot. The chicken was delicious, nicely seasoned and the mac n cheese came out in a mini cast iron skillet. Topped with panko and white cheddar cheese it was great. My sammich had a nice pile of pork with cole slaw, a brioche bun and some great bbq sauce. A very big cup of mac salad, with bits of celery and the BH seasoning. Both were very tasty!
This was a spot with a large bar that served new American cuisine for the most part. The menu was rather large with very exciting choices. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. I had four dishes that I will describe below. Carolina Hush Puppies ($8) - These came with jalapeno-honey butter, which was what drew me initially, but they did not need them at all. There was five extremely large hush puppies, and they were some of the best, if not the best, I ever had. They were perfectly fried with tons of flavor. The butter was tasty, but as mentioned, not needed at all. Deviled Farm Eggs ($8) - There were four present and they were topped with a homemade chili crunch. These were solid. I thought the chili crunch would be spicier, but there was a nice slight crisp factor with the crunch present. Old Bay Macaroni Salad ($6) - This was a traditional macaroni salad with a hint of old bay. The macaroni was cooked ideally, and the touch of old bay was a different seasoning to use. Chopped Salad ($19) - This had romaine lettuce, roasted carrots, avocado, pickled red onion, cornbread croutons, bell peppers, feta cheese, and pulled rotisserie chicken, with a green goddess dressing. This was very big with a ton of all of the ingredients. They appeared all fresh and paired nicely with one another. I thought the dressing was a little light and actually could have used more flavor. The cornbread croutons were unique and stood out. Will I go back? Yup.
Most of our party enjoyed their meals, but they stuck to burgers. I ventured out and got the fish & chips, and it was BURNT to a crisp. I picked at it. The fish on the inside was good. But the crust was a disaster. I left the restaurant, with the taste of burnt nastiness in my mouth. Nice waitress. Cool place. Tasty beers. Oh well. Bad luck, I guess.
We visited Engine Room on a very busy Saturday evening for dinner. Nonetheless we were pleased and satisfied with the service and our meals. The french fries are delicious!
Came bace 2 years later and I got the 6oz fillet ($28) and salmon jerky ($15). Salmon jerky was smoky and savory. 4 pieces that had about 2-3 bites each. The fillet was unfortunately overcooked to a medium well instead of medium rare. I did not send it back due to it being busy. The potatoes and greens were delicious! Staff was friendly! Overall still a good restaurant, if the steak was cooked to the correct temp it would get that fifth star. Food(50%): 6.7 Staff/service(25%): 7.0 Value(25%): 7.5 Overall: 6.9/10
This place was recommended by one of the local shops and it did not disappoint. There is a reason why this place was busy & the food was 10/10 from hush puppies to the bbq pork belly!
Decided to stop by for a quick bite and I'm sure glad I did. I ordered the maple sriracha wings with some mac n cheese and boy was everything delicious. My friends got the Mushroom Mae Burger and raved about it as well. The servings themself are also very sizable. Service was so friendly and quick. The beers on tap were all so refreshing in the summer heat and overall, everything was perfect. It felt like a perfect little brewery in such a picturesque town. Very clean and GREAT A/C.
We walked into Engine Room for a Sunday brunch after discovering that the wait at the Shipwright's Daughter was over an hour. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our time here. First, I asked if they had coffee (since it wasn't on the menu) and they said yes, so I asked for a latte and the waitress, with attitude, said "Oh, we're not that kind of place." After observing the restaurant more I do see how it's not a latte kind of establishment, but she could have said it nicely. We ordered the chicken and waffle and steak and eggs and we both left more than half the food uneaten. There was a hair, from the girl who brought out the food, on the steak and eggs and when we brought this to our waitress's attention, she essentially told us that if we wanted to send it back, it would take 20 minutes for the plate to come out (it had already taken a while to receive our food). She ended up taking the steak and eggs off the bill which was appreciated. Overall, we unfortunately wouldn't recommend Engine Room.
Got into town a bit late and went in around 8pm and were seated right away. We had a lovely server named Tabitha who recommended the Last Cargo bourbon drink and it was so good we had seconds! Large salad portions that we took home for a second meal. The carrot hummus plate was to die for. We are heading back again during our stay.
Delicious! Loved every bite. Pretty dark (and moody) vibes. We sat at the bar for dinner. I don't recall much about the service, but I know if it was bad, I'd never go back & I'd make sure to notify you all about that! So no worries here, please give them a visit. They have a nice selection of meal options to choose from.
Food 9/10 Mussels 12/10 (reorder) Kid friend 6/10 It's an amazing gastro pub. The toast for the mussels woooof. KJ is awesome.
I ordered take out online and had a great experience here. Online order was easy and convenient. I ordered a variety of different things. Pick up was as simple. They have a small parking lot outside that I was able to get a spot while I ran inside to grab the food. Inside had a nice atmosphere and staff was helpful. Overall the food was great! I orders the chicken and dumpling soup, farm greens salad with chicken, the chicken burger and the black bean burger with a pork patty. The only disappointing food was the chicken and dumpling soup. There was only like one dumpling and the broth was way too salty. The salad was delicious! So fresh and colorful. I loved it. The burgers were also delicious! Flavors were great and very filling. The prices were also very fair. I would come back!
Engine Room is a gastro pub located in a old engine factory. It has a rustic look and it's a cool spot. We sat outside on the patio during brunch. Service was efficient and friendly. There's a large selection of craft beers, cocktails, and wine. The cuisine is American; there were burgers, salads, sandwiches, and more. They also give you the option to make your own bloody Marys. I had the Express Yourself cocktail which is like an espresso martini; that was good. For my meal, I had the Engine Room breakfast sandwich, it had bacon, eggs, cheese, on a bun with fries. The food was really good. Overall, we had a good experience. The food and drinks were delicious and would definitely return.

Really liked Engine Room! We made a res for a Saturday lunch easily on Reddit. We had gotten a filling breakfast earlier so we decided to split the Mushroom Mae Burger with mac salad and a side order of Onion Rings. We appreciated that they had already split the burger and mac salad in half for us, rather than us having to struggle with cutting it. The burger was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious creamy cheesy mushroom sauce. Mac salad as good too but I'd probably try the fries next time. Onion rings were delicious!! So crispy and a big portion for $7 too. Not the biggest fan of the sauce it came with and would've preferred a garlic mayo instead. Wish we could have gotten the onion rings as a side to the burger though. read more

The Engine Room is a quick walk from the shops on busy West Main St and East Main St in downtown Mystic. Our attentive server, Emily, went above and beyond making sure our party of three was well taken care of. Even though she had several other tables, she made us feel like we were her only customers. Though new to this restaurant, she confidently gave food and drink suggestions like she's been there forever. I got the loaded potato soup and the spinach salad with a specialty lemonade cocktail. No detail was overlooked... very utilitarian, yet charming establishment with reasonable prices, a nice variety of food, and excellent service! read more

This not your average diner, I would call it brewery restaurant that has distinct style. Plase has relaxed yet stylish atmosphere and creative menue. They have their own salmon jerky which is basically a piece of salmon that is particularly smoked and particularly dried, we ended up having two orders of this. Also whipped ricotta was very good and unorthodox. Ceasar salad has hefty amount of grilled chicken and burgers were very good too. read more

First time back here since our last visit in 2019 and absolutely still one of my favorite burgers ever! The Mushroom Mae featuring Mystic Cheese CO's famous Melinda Mae cheese (similar to a creamy brie), mushrooms and double patty. It's absolute perfection! You also have to order the hush puppies, they're such a hit and even featured on their happy hour menu. I would definitely be happy ordering these alone. We ended up getting here during HH and ordered some Gin & Tonics which were very well priced and flavorful! Engine Room is definitely a must visit whenever we're in Mystic. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to hit up while I'm in Mystic. This trip we sat near the Chef's Table which was fun and a unique experience! We ventured out of the norm and tried a few new dishes including the brussels and the chicken burger. Both were phenomenal. I just wish the brussels were a little larger portion for the price of the all. Drinks were also very good and everything came quickly even though the place was packed. The server was on top of it. Also the sauce flight is a must! read more

Food was good. I bought the hangover burger for about $18. Taste was good but wish it was slightly bigger. They do load up on the fries on the side. My wife got the half off avocado which was different than your usual avocado toast, so that was unique. We also got the maple waffle milkshake which is a must try. Overall spent about $60 on a Sunday afternoon and was seated relatively quickly. The vibe is very rustic which my wife loved read more

Do you want a delicious American meal with interesting flavor combinations and solid preparation? Then go to the Engine Room. Their specials are exciting, their burgers always hit the spot, and they always seem to be busy because they're one of the best eateries in the area. While most times I feel like taking a nap afterwards (and the low light dining room usually doesn't aid that feeling), it's well worth it. Make a stop and enjoy your meal- I find myself there at least once a month and it always brings a smile to my face. read more
My first visit to a new restaurant in 2023!! Sadly, disappointing. Let's start with the good. The atmosphere is nice. High ceilings, exposed brick, nice big windows. It's a little loud. The staff was pleasant. Not much for vegetarians on the menu, a few options for pescatarians. I ordered the fish sandwich. It was mediocre at best. My husband ordered a burger. Everything was just bland and boring. A big disappointment for me. The bathroom was messy and did not have any soap.. Maybe it was just a bad day? read more
Wow this place is phenomenal! Clean, rustic, with an open floor plan. The drinks were great, the staff is excellent being very attentive and friendly. The cobb salad might be the best ive ever had. The creative and fun dessert menu had us ordering a twix and a fruity pebble milkshake! A perfect way to end your dinner! Will 100% be back and tell our freinds & fam to check it out as well! read more

Pinot Grigio is pink. Cobb salad comes dismantled on a bed of lettuce and corn bread was burnt. My son's Mac and cheese had no taste. Really don't understand the reviews on this place. Really disappointed. Also the enclosed porch is cold. No heat lamps. read more

Great place! We were in town visiting with friends and hubby managed to get a reservation! We had three little ones with us and they gave us a great table (with lots of room and out of the way). We ordered: - cornbread (definitely get it) - Mac and cheese (note: without the bacon, it tastes just like the kids one) - burger special - chicken with potato salad and coleslaw - kale Caesar salad The salads were amazing... so unexpected. Definitely recommend this place and their salads!! read more
The Engine Room has been my go to Mystic CT restaurant for many years. I have never been disappointed. They have a great selection of craft beers. My wife had the Cobb Salad and I had the Chipotle Chicken sandwich. The Cobb salad is always amazing. The bacon chunks are so delicious and the fried soft boiled egg is just magical. My Chipotle Chicken sandwich was cooked to perfection, and the fries are a wonderful side. I tell everyone going to Mystic to stop at the Engine Room. read more
Stopped in for a late lunch. Not a bad restaurant. I ordered their skinny margarita and it was definitely worthy. I added a Stevia packet to make it a little sweeter since I cant eat a lot of sugar. Highly recommend Salmon Jerky!!! So good. The Deviled Eggs, on the other hand, need a little more seasoning though. Everyone has different taste buds/views on their food and this was just mine. Make your own decision. Our waitress was really quick and friendly. Plenty of seating. Recommend getting their before the evening tourists roll in for dinner. They had a new beer menu about to come out as well. Worth a try for beer lovers! read more
The Engine Room is a good option to try since there is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. The appetizer options didn't include usual staples such as crabcakes or calamari. Meals came out in about 15 mins which was very reasonable. Entrees are about $15. read more
Great vibe, very good food and fun menu. Highlighting locally sources ingredients is always a plus for me. Great whiskey/bourbon list and they properly have the large cube. Definitely worth a visit and I hope to come back again. read more

Food was excellent Ambiance was cool with a lot of nods to the building's history. Kid-friendly with great, unique options aside from the normal chicken nugget fare - my two year old enjoyed the avocado toast! Try the Cowboy dip! read more
We made a reservation for Sunday brunch but there were plenty of tables when we came. Two of us weren't too hungry so just got the hush puppies ($7) and chopped salad ($18) to share. The hush puppies were a bit too crunchy for my liking and I generally like crunchy textures. The rosemary lemon butter was cool but I don't think this is a must do. The chopped salad was surprisingly good and creative. It comes with cornbread croutons and the grilled chicken seemed like their rotisserie. It was well tossed and I appreciated the slight variations on a classic salad. read more

This. Place. Is. GREAT! To start, we arrived around 10:50am on a Saturday, but no matter, they let us in and sat us 10 minutes early! (I'm glad we were early because this place was full in no time for lunch) Our very personable waitress promptly asked us what we'd like to drink, and upon delivering our drinks took our food order. My wife wanted to eat light, so she ordered the mussels (pictured) and I was hungry for a steak (hey, we're on vacation - steak for lunch, why not)?!? The steak frites (also pictured) sounded delicious and boy did this meal deliver! It was a flavor explosion! Upon the food being delivered, and seeing my 'frites' swimming in sauce, I said, "ugh! Soggy fried potatoes! What a dumb way to serve this!!" Turns out; 'the dummy' was me! The steak + the potatoes + the sauce were AMAZING together! Great texture (not soggy); the potatoes are cooked enough, plus the texture of the steak holds up well to the moisture the sauce brings to the bite. I'd happily eat this again! (Not to mention that the steak was cooked perfectly!) Food + 1 mixed drink + tip was ~ $90 (but it was worth it all around) Lastly, the restaurant itself is pretty unassuming - clean, casual dining with a touch of modern rustic, appointed with comfortable seating - I love a good booth table, and they had them here! Oh, I forgot to mention: my wife liked her mussels too (she said they were a bit over seasoned but tasted good). I'll say they gave a very generous portion though! read more

We always come to Engine room for a drink and some food every-time we swing through mystic. I've had many things on the menu, as well as many cocktails here and nothing has ever been disappointing. They have a great beer selection, and some innovative drinks on their menu. Their food selection is well rounded and there's something for everyone. This most recent visit we had the steak and frites and it was wonderful. We will always be back whenever we come to town. read more
