I had the most amazing Valentine's dinner at Rocks 21 last night. Upon entry we were immediately greeted and quickly sat with our reservations in the dining area for the Sweetheart Dinner Special ($99 per couple for a four course meal). They had live music playing in the separated (more casual) bar area which was pleasant to listen to throughout our dinner. Their Sweetheart Dinner menu had plentiful choices and after consideration I opted for the cajun crab chowder, shrimp and avocado cucumber bites, and the filet mignon surf and turf. Everything was so flavorful, seasoned well, and so delicious! My boyfriend got the chicken parm and Caesar salad which he was complimenting throughout the entirety of our meal. Our dinner was paired with sparkling champagne and we concluded with chocolate and vanilla mousse pudding. The portions were generous and we were so full by the end of our meal that we had to get dessert to go! Our waitress was wonderful and so attentive, and made our experience wonderful for our first time visit. The restaurant is located conveniently 5 minutes from downtown Mystic and in the same lot as Mystic Inn right near the waterfront. A great hidden gem. I cannot wait to visit in the summer months with their outdoor seating - it is a lovely place! I hear they serve brunch as well as more casual dining options too. read more

My favorite parts of dinner were the coconut shrimp and the cookie skillet. Our server was also very nice. It was too cold to go out to see the view but through the window it still looked beautiful. They honestly sounded like they came from an angry teenager. Are they also messaging other yelpers because their feelings got hurt over a REVIEW?? Are they going to message someone who posts a negative review about their favorite places?? If this person "quit" (IF that is true) all he had to do was put his hair back, it was on HIM to go to that extreme. Don't blame others for his actions. The Lobster bisque was burned. The waitress took it back and was very gracious . The lobster nachos would have been great if they didn't get soggy within a few minutes. Corn tortillas weren't used it was more of a flour tortilla good on the first one but then they became soggy. We also had a scallops wrapped in bacon with honey grain mustard. I love scallops but they didn't have much flavor. The burratta grilled peach salad was good but the peaches weren't grilled. Overall I feel like they are pricey and the food wasn't good. read more

Walked in with my daughters service dog and the hostess started shaking her head and saying no. We explained he was a service dog. She continued to breathe heavy and shake her head. She spoke to a gentleman behind a wall and was still not happy. This was a very u professional way to greet a person with a service animal. He did come out from behind the wall and say if the dog was a service animal we could eat there however We felt very unwelcome and left. Super hurtful to someone with a service animal. I been here a few times I usually just get lobster nachos, which are amazing. This time I tried happy hour and was very disappointed. The waitress said she would give the happy hour prices for the whole drink menu.. I order a sangria. I've never seen a bartender pour a sangria out of a bottle probably a $12 bottle and the drink cost me $12. It was terrible and a total waste of money talk about profit for the restaurant. My friend and I met there tonight to try their Thursday prime rib special for $24. I hadn't had prime rib in a while so I was really looking forward to it. A complimentary salad comes with it if there are two people dining. The salad was ok, it was large, mostly lettuce but had delicious mozzarella cheese chunks on top. We both ordered the prime rib medium rare. The presentation was good, but the mashed potatoes and the prime rib were cold. The green beans were delicious and cooked perfectly. The servers were gathered around the hostess station, while our food got cold in the kitchen. I had to walk to the hostess station to tell our server that the food was cold. They brought us new plates and I knew immediately that they had heated the food in the microwave. The au jus was steaming hot and the potatoes and meat were barely warm. The prime rib was so tough I couldn't cut it. We were so disappointed because we had looked forward to having a really nice meal to celebrate the holidays. How can a restaurant not know how to serve the food hot without microwaving it? The server actually said "how else can you heat food besides the microwave?" !!!! I sent the tough meat back and ordered a hamburger which took a crazy amount of time to get. My friend was done eating by the time I got it. It was a very frustrating experience, not what we had hoped for. The food could have been served hot if all of the servers weren't hanging around the hostess station. read more

When we got there we asked for menus but were told it was only a buffet. Now it's 4:00 pm too late to go elsewhere . The buffet was awful. Nothing was marked to know what the food or sauces were, no rolls , only a few bagels left from earlier in the day . Cheese board no crackers , roasted whole chicken on cutting board, pork and prime rib. Ziti dry no sauce, cold French fries, chicken fingers warm . Scalloped potatoes so much sauce couldn't find a potato, vegetables carrots too hard to eat asparagus ok. Small pieces of cod in butter. Soup was cream of tomato. Very little dessert choices. The reason I'm complaining is this was $ 85.00 a person. This was a very high price to pay for this quality of food. Not worth more than $ 29.95 if that. I have been in the food business for over 40 years. Sorry to say I will never attend another buffet at this establishment. read more

Upon arriving with my husband and authentic service animal, I was confronted by the hostess that "pets" are not allowed. My small dog is clearly marked "service animal" on her service animal vest. I said she's service. The hostess asked me for documentation. Knowing there is no such form I could produce, I asked what she was referring to. Several times we went back and forth when I finally said it's actually against the law to ask for a note or documentation. I actually produced the law on the ADA website. I was also forced to show her a medical document stating my disability, which was extremely embarrassing in front of other patrons. The manager asked me to leave and actually followed my husband and I put the door. I do NOT recommend any place that kicks people out with an authentic disability; one that is chronic and long-standing with medical documentation. read more

We have been here a few times for special holiday meals, most recently for Easter. Overall, it's a great location and our waitress was very accommodating, but we felt really rushed the entire time. We were told as soon as we got there that we had 90 minutes because they had 300 guests that day and had to seat them all. Some of our party came from different parts of the state, so it was important for us to have family time and be able to talk and eat and not be reminded 2-3 times that we only had 90 minutes. We were consistently interrupted by staff coming to take our used plates away, which is fine in theory, but we felt like they interrupted our family conversations pretty regularly, while we kept an eye on our 90-minute clock. About 60 minutes in we were finishing up and talking, and we were reminded again that we had 90 minutes, at which point I looked at my watch and said, "Don't we have 15 more minutes?" My biggest suggestion is to let people enjoy their 90 minutes, particularly since some family members don't see each other often. They can tell us once at the beginning, but I think that's enough. It just felt like they overbooked, and we couldn't fully enjoy our time. Also, the dessert table is pretty lacking, and I think usually includes canned whipped cream. I think for $70 p/p they really should ease up a bit and also offer more for that price. read more

Had Easter Dinner there today and was sat in the foyer of the restaurant. Only other table they had was a high top in the very loud bar. Reservation was at 1:00pm and they pulled the breakfast foods at 1:15pm. My family didn't get a chance to order an omelet etc. We were still charged $69.00 p/p. Meat overcooked and a lame dessert selection was offered w cans of whipped cream - and to top it off, leaving the restaurant one of the managers was smoking next to the door. This place is beautiful inside and out. I highly recommend sitting outside on the deck for the best views. I personally recommend the fisherman's platter broiled for food. The calamari and lobster nachos are very good too! I've never tried anything I didn't like here. We've been here a a few times over the years & it's always been fine. I never felt compelled to update my original 3-star review until today when I decided to drop it to 1 star. We went to Easter Brunch. $55 for a buffet, which would have been fine if the food offerings had been freshly made, but most were not. The quiche were, if not old, then very poorly reheated. There was an outer layer of egg that was one texture, an inner layer that was another texture- it was as if the outer layer had freezer burn, or perhaps the inner layer had just never been properly thawed... honestly we couldn't tell what the cause of the problem was but it was gross & was the same across multiple quiche slices so we didn't eat any of them. The muffins were similarly less-than-fresh. Tried the omelet station because at least that was being freshly made, right? I watched them make my omelet and while making it the chef wiped the spatula ON HIS APRON and then put the spatula back into my omelet and then wiped it on his apron again then back into my omelet. Ew. Also, no cheese offered on the omelet station though they did get a single slice of some unknown cheese that they put on my omelet for me. Gee, thanks. Honestly, it was fine, I wasn't going to eat it anyway after the chef wiped the spatula he put in my food on his apron TWICE while making my omelet. Did I say "ew?" The bacon was fine, my son had a waffle which was also fine, for a plain waffle. My husband said that the seafood pot pie was tasty, but honestly after watching the chef be so gross out in the front of the house where everyone could see it, I was too grossed out thinking about what was going on back in the kitchen where no one was watching & couldn't bring myself to try anything else. read more

Came here for dinner with my family on a Sunday night. They didn't have live music but the atmosphere was great! Parking isnt an issue they have a huge lot next to the restaurant. Chris was our server and he was very cordial although he was quiet. He did a great job serving all 5 of us. I ordered the fish and chips as well as a green tea with milk. Fish and chips came with coleslaw and fries. The cod was cooked perfectly if I must say so myself!! I would go back just for the fish and chips and if you want to order it, you will not be disappointed! I also tried the duck and filet mignon which were cooked perfectly. I didnt enjoy the orange glaze on the duck but that's okay it's a personal preference because the duck was cooked well. For dessert, I split the s'mores flatbread with my brother and I was blown away. It was SOO good!! It was a little smoky and it wasn't a heavy dessert. It was a nice twist to a dessert flatbread and it came with ice cream! Overall. the meal and service were great and I'd love to come back one day! read more

One of the most overpriced and underwhelming restaurants I have ever been to. We made the grand mistake of coming for Thanksgiving only to find out they only serve buffet style. We were originally sat at a smaller table near the front not more than 2 inches from other larger tables full of guests. We asked to be moved and were thankful. We approached the buffet and got fries and chicken tenders since we aren't traditional Thanksgiving food people. The fries were cold and tasted like they were once frozen and reheated, and the baked tenders were incredibly low quality and overall bland (I've tasted better from my college dining hall). The service was okay we had some extra plates that needed to be removed from the table and had to get up and bring them to a staff member since our waitress didn't stop by very often. We also tried the deserts there were chocolate cake squares, cookies, cheesecake, and apple crisp. I was told the apple crisp was good, but the other desserts were nothing to write home about as if from a grocery store. we got the check and you'll never guess how much it was. take a guess... almost $240, ridiculous, with a $14 drink that was fine, but $70 for each buffet-style meal while I understand with the buffet style you get as much as you want but anything over $30 for that poor quality food is outrageous. read more

Atmosphere was warm and comfortable with some light Christmas music adding the right touch. Shrimp scampi was slightly under seasoned, but still very good. Shrimps we're great however the pasta portion seemed small. A bit more pasta and the dish would look stunning. Fish and chips were ok. A bit dark on the fry and left an aftertaste of the oil. Fries weren't very crisp and felt like they had sat for a while. Coleslaw was vinegar based, so keep that in mind if not your preference. Espresso martini was perfect and would definitely order again. A few cons: Had to hunt down someone for water refills. At 5:30p, staff came to each table to place and light a candle. These were apple scented and started to overwhelm the room. We asked for ours not to be lit and was told they were only using this scent because that's all they had. The food here was so, so delicious. I had a black bean and quinoa veggie burger (first veggie burger ever, btw) and it was wonderfully moist and almost meat like. The patty had such a rich flavor that paired really well with the focaccia and the avocado. This burger made me realize how good of an alternative veggie burgers are, which I never thought I'd say. We also got some baked Brie which was divine. The flavor of the cheese worked so well with the apples, nuts, and honey they served with it. The service here was also fantastic! We were seated at the deck facing the water, but they apparently had scheduled work to be done on the same day, and needed us to move. They offered to comp one drink per person, which amounted to quite a bit of money for our party. Definitely would come back here whenever I'm in the area again because I want to relive the veggie burger so bad. read more

It was good but personally I feel like you should not add anything to it. They mixed in some green parsley or something like that which made it just ok for me. Also, New England in summer is prime lobster season. I felt quality for this time of year was not up to par. They have a nice outdoor deck area which we enjoy. The bathroom was filthy though. For 6:30 pm on a Monday night, that was unexpected. read more
