I got the stew in a crock. The flavor was good. It was mostly all broth. The meat was good. I love carrots but there was like one piece of carrot. I think if they just added more carrots it would have been worth the price. It's a cute place and our waitress was nice. My granddaughter had the chocolate cake it was huge.

The outside patio was beautiful. Parking was a bit tricky. Our waiter was great, super friendly and accommodating. Service was quick and food was delicious. Portion size was generous!

True Score: 2.5 Stars Meh, nice little place but the prices are high and the food is mediocre. 12 seat bar and several tables. Irish music blaring. We had the steak tip skewers special and split a Cuban Reuben. We had a few mixed drinks. Evaluation: We did walk in and grab a couple of bar seats - plus Server was pleasant and attentive- plus Restaurant was clean - plus Drinks - Decent poor at 12 plus per drink - Minus Appetizer- Dog Food "supposed" steak tips special. Well done strips of stew beef. Awful, 19 dollars. Minus Entree - Cuban Reuben, decent sandwich, very little corned beef, 20 dollars - Minus Overall this would have been a 3 star review, but when you get a plate of dog food as a special app and the customer doesn't eat almost any of it and you don't even ask what the problem is. There is an issue. That plate should have never went out of the kitchen. We go put 5 days a week and will probably spend our money elsewhere. Thanks

After a day of antiquing in Putnam, wanted to try somewhere new. we opted for The Hare and Hound. Its a wonderful Irish Pub atmosphere with a very nice menu of both Irish staples balanced with typical Americana. i went for the Reuben which was stacked with thick slices of corned beef. The fries were fresh cut and the pickles are made fresh on site. My wife chose a staple of bangers and mash. This dish was accented with brussell sprouts. The service was exceptional as was the warm pub like atmosphere. Need to get back here again soon!

Our waitress was Amazing! I wish I would of kept my receipt so I had her name for this review. The only thing that kept this review from being a five. This whole entire street has bees and flies. I dinged the coffee shop up the road not realizing it was an issue the entire street has. There is nothing more annoying than trying to eat with bees and flies. The food was excellent‼ Our appetizer was unique and fully homemade. A potato flight consisting of very large homemade tater tots, homemade chips, and homemade fries. With three dipping sauces. It was so Good. Next I had the Tipperary steak tips with colcannon. The steak was cooked medium and was a nice size. Colcannon was so creamy & flavorful. My husband had the Shepard's pie with a combo of lamb and ground beef. I tried it and normally Im not a fan of lamb. But I could not tell the difference. By suggestion of our waitress I took home an Irish cheesecake which Im excited to try!

Great service on a busy Friday evening. We sat on the patio and it was just perfect. I had the Irish Cuban sandwich, which had pastrami and corned beef as well as Irish cheddar cheese instead of the classic Cuban ingredients. Delicious, and so big I brought half home. My friend loved the Irish grilled cheese, featuring bacon, Irish cheddar, fig jam and grainy mustard on soda bread. I was a little jealous of that sandwich. Both came with crunchy house made potato chips. I look forward to my next meal at The Hare and the Hound.

We went out on a date night with the dogs and saw that The Hare and The Hound allowed dogs to be on there patio! We got sat right away and they even got us a water bowl for the dogs The food was DELICIOUS! The ambiance was so cute & cozy! AND they have fire lamps outside which made it nice Our waitress was very patient and accommodating! and other staff were so nice!! Definitely would recommend!

Guinness Stew w/ Irish Nachos! Don't forget the pint!

For some reason, word of mouth was not complimentary but I decided to develop my own opinion and I'm glad I did. The Hare and the Hound is a great Irish themed pub located in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. You will get a warm, comfy feeling right away and that is always the best! I had to lead off with a proper pint of Guinness. What a nice surprise when it was topped with a shamrock. See the photo below. How cool is that! Great service and special touch! The food was very good. I enjoyed the excellent Guinness Stew along with the Irish Nachos. The nachos had a little too much craft ale cheese sauce but they were still very good. My wife had the Fish and Chips. These were excellent and the homemade slaw and tartar sauce finished it off nicely. The Hare and the Hound gets it right!

On an absolutely gorgeous, cloudless, magical day, took the convertible to The Hare and the Hound (HH). It's been on my food bucket list ever since Yelp friend, Jason, gave it 5 glowing stars last year. 48 miles away from where I live, and GPS took me through about 10 towns, on numerous back country roads / routes. Farmland, orchards, rolling meadows, manure for sale... all the best sights and scents. Finally arrived in Putnam, which is a cool little town. A bunch of pubs / restaurants share a free muni lot, which was totally packed. Nice patio seating, and inside was handsomely appointed...dark wood, etched glass, cool lighting. Stacey welcomed me, and provided menus and water. I opted for a Yuengling and was debating the fish and chips or the cod dinner. Stacey deftly steered me to the fish and chips. But in lieu of the slaw, I asked for colcannon, since so few places offer it. While waiting for the food, listened to some interesting Irish music over the sound system (I vaguely remember the words "Rover from Dover"). The food was excellent. A generous piece of cod, perfectly breaded and fried; the FFs crispy, hot and nicely seasoned; the colcannon very hot and very tasty. Stacey is a definite rock star. Very affable and efficient, and a mainstay since HH opened about 4 yrs ago. In honor of departed friend, Ken "the Kid", toasted him w one of his favorites, Tullamore Dew. One quibble. Jason's review showed two nice pieces of beer battered cod. It seems they've cut back to one. Still, I will be back to try some of the other interesting menu items. And Wednesday and Thursday specials are very tempting. Great service and quality, good value. 4 and 1/2 stars

Shotgun review: - Fun theme & decor - Friendly service, albeit a bit slow - Delicious, comforting Irish food* - Nice patio - Good for big groups - Strangely expensive cocktails** *I ordered the "Hound's Dish" - house brined corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, & spicy mustard. It came out in a literal dog bowl which gave us all a good laugh. It was phenomenal! It tasted just like how my Irish dad makes the same dish. **I ordered the "Mayor's Mule" (which is just an Irish Mule) cocktail. It was fine, tasting exactly as expected, but a staggering price for just Jameson, ginger beer & a dash of lime juice. Overall, a very tasty meal & nice experience. I definitely recommend.

Our server came and took our drink orders and provided us with menus. We chose the pretzel sticks that come with beer cheese. Entrees were the chicken tenders with barbecue sauce and the heifer burger minus the jalapeños. Strawberry margaritas completed the order. The pretzel sticks are served piping hot, you can see the steam coming off them as you dip them in the great tasting cheese. The are soft any nicely salted, just the right amount of salt. The chicken tenders arrived covered in a great tasting barbecue sauce. Baby carrots, a side of extra barbecue sauce, and blue cheese completed the dish. There are plenty of tenders in the order, enough so that we took some home for another meal. The barbecue sauce was nice and tangy and complemented the tenders perfectly. The heifer burger was served on a nice soft bun alone with crispy bacon and gorgonzola cheese. Could have had more cheese for my taste but no complaints on what was done with it. The burger was cooked a perfect medium rare and it was well seasoned and very large. It came with a large portion of French fries and pickles on the side. The fries were very crispy and stayed hot throughout the meal. This was definitely a great meal. Service was very good as our server was very attentive and took good care of us. Been here before and we'll be going back. A great place with a large enough menu that everyone should find something they will like.

I also got some BBQ chicken potato skins. The restaurant itself is very pleasant, a large interior that you wouldn't guess from the outside. It has a cozy ambiance, and it has a very local feel as a lot of the other customers and the staff seemed to know each other. The staff are also super friendly and there wasn't much time between any time I needed something and receiving it. The soup and salad bar is on the menu for $15 standalone and I'm not sure the limited variety warrants that, but as a part of the meal it was just enough. I really enjoyed the beef and bean soup, though the New England clam chowder was pretty bland. The salad bar was well kept and had enough to make a solid salad. The prime rib came out before the potato skins appetizer, so that was odd, but at least you know the kitchen isn't holding dishes up under a heat lamp. The potato skins were alright but the chicken was pretty dry and nothing I'd order again. The real disappointment was the prime rib. My knife wasn't sharp enough to get through the rubbery skin that surrounded it, rather than having a nice seasoned crust. The meat was firm and fairly flavorless, and the au jus that came with it didn't add anything either. The whole preparation needed more salt, pepper, herbs, and maybe a touch of aging to let it penetrate. The mashed potatoes and gravy, similarly, were bland and unenjoyable. I can say the menu is broad, so you may find something else on it, but I don't think this is your destination for delectable prime rib.
