Love the flight experience!! We had reservations at 6 and were seated promptly. The inside is a little small but there is a nice outdoor space in better weather. Our party of four ordered two drink flights - Old Fashioneds (peach, blueberry, and the Dudley) and Mojitos (rose, lavender, pineapple, and raspberry) and three appetizer flights deviled eggs (bacon, shrimp, and Dorito), egg rolls (Tex mex, Philly cheese steak, and buffalo chicken), and calamari (Rhode Island, creamy, and sweet chili) - all delicious. We then ordered a meat trio with steaks and steak tips and a seafood trio with baked stuffed shrimp, scallops, and salmon. The steak was very tender and the salmon and shrimp were excellent. However - the reason I chose this was for the cheese wheel. I ordered the pasta flight with three types of pasta (gnocchi with Gorgonzola, ziti with vodka sauce, and spaghetti marinara with grilled chicken). The server wheeled out the two cheese wheels and lit them on fire to heat up the cheese. Then took each already prepared pasta and heated it up in the melted cheese. The pasta was average and the pasta and chicken were lukewarm but the experience was fun. My only complaint is that the pasta came out after everything else. But that's understandable. Dessert was cheesecake and a flight of espresso martinis (Reese's, Caramel, and original) and a great way to end the meal. Service was great and overall a nice dinner. read more

Black Stone in Putnam solves the problem of wanting to try everything. They do flights... and not just for drinks food flights Started with the deviled egg flight (the shrimp one was hands down my favorite). Then came the shrimp flight: bacon-wrapped shrimp with maple glaze, garlic butter shrimp, and bang bang shrimp. The fried shrimp sealed the deal. I love Blackstone. The flight are so original and fun. Don't go if you don't have "patience". The staff has to put a lot of work into the drink and food flights. If you have time it is definitely worth it. We love to bring company. read more

I've been to this small restaurant, with an interior I can best describe as bohemian, a couple times. Whether it's very busy or mostly empty, the service is a little slow and the music is so loud you have trouble communicating with anyone you may be there with. At least when you do get service everyone is very friendly. The menu concept is that everything is in flights, so you're choosing three from usually four options. You can choose the same thing twice, or get anything stand-alone. My experience was that at least one of the options was subpar, either being dry or bland. Also, on the slider flight, I requested no raw onions on the one slider and they didn't put the grilled onions on the other burger either. However, while this is reading negative, I will say that the rest of the food is great and I'm looking forward to coming back to try more options I haven't gotten to yet. They have outdoor seating, which may be quieter but wasn't available in December when I went. I think it's worth a try, but since it is small it may be full when you go, and I wouldn't recommend a large group without a reservation. read more

Service was awful, food ok . I had order there 3 pasta dish Flights I think they call them . My wife's meal came out . 20 minutes later I ask about mine , which they said was done but I was getting tied of waiting . They gave me me diner to go after waiting another 20 minutes which by then I had lost my appetite. You would think they could serve both meals about the same time . I ordered pasta . We recently heard that Blackstone Coventry had opened Blackstone Putnam and having been to Blackstone Worcester (closed now) I knew my husband would enjoy this for lunch. We arrived on a Friday at about 11:20 am and no one else was there. We were greeted by the bartender and seated. Our server Jon came out shortly and introduced himself and made sure be understood the concept that most things on the menu came in flights. I picked a margarita flight...peach, raspberry and blackberry (they were amazing!). My husband picked a beer ( not much selection for a craft beer drinker). We ordered a flight of egg rolls... steak, Rueben (it was a special on the previous day) and a thanksgiving and we ordered a flight of sliders (hamburger, fried chicken and cheeseburger). The food was good (not amazing, hence the 3 stars). Ambiance- 5 stars Service- 5 stars Drink selection- 5 stars Beer selection- 1 star Food- 3-4 stars So it's 3-4 stars, I'll give them the 4 because they're newly opened. Blackstone has a fun concept with great variety--we really enjoyed the lettuce wrap flight, eggroll flight, and two wine flights. The food was tasty, and it's great to sample so many options. That said, the tables are way too small for a place built around flights. We felt cramped the entire time, and it was honestly uncomfortable with everything packed on the table. I can't imagine how tight it would've been if our third person had ordered a full flight too. Great idea, good food, but they really need to rethink the layout. read more

We popped in last night after dining at another nearby establishment because we heard they had great espresso martini flights. Walked in the door and the bartender turned and looked at us and immediately asked "Do you have a reservation?" Not hello, how are you, how can I help you. It was downhill from there - the interior of the restaurant had maybe five customers with several open tables and when we looked outside prior to coming in there were no less than 5 empty tables and a fire pit table as well. The next thing she said was "She (referring to my granddaughter) cannot sit at the bar." Well, no kidding. We told her we were just there for a drink and asked for a table outside and she said "Let me check with my co-worker" and then turned around. We stood there, and stood there and were not acknowledged again. Not sure what that was all about but that server needs an attitude adjustment. After being ignored for several more minutes we left. When we got home we went on line to see if we could make a reservation and lo and behold there were many empty slots. It amazes me in today's economy if someone comes into your establishment and wants to spend money that you would be so rude. We will NEVER be back. I hope the owner sees this and makes some course corrections with staff. It is well needed. read more

The Blackstone is in the old depot and is just adorable inside. Small but quaint. The food is fantastic with so many options. We got 4 different flights and yes had a bit to take home but everything hit the spot. Our server was very nice and helpful in explaining the menu. We were in the mood to try someplace new for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised. Never seen food flights before, but this twist on beer flights was great! My husband got a shrimp flight. The shrimp were butterflied and one in garlic oil, one as a bang-bang which was just spicy enough, and lastly a coconut with sweet chilHe also got a salad that was delicious. I got a Mac and Cheese flight of bacon, breaded, and original. All were very tasty. The bacon was perfect! Not fatty or too overdone. The cheese melted beautifully into the macaroni. Prices were reasonable. Shrimp was $18 and the Mac was &18.50. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Some of the other items were pricey, but if the chef does the same thing, they're worth it. We've been multiple times. Great food and service - so much so that two shared flights means two take home containers for later. The naysayers make me laugh - most from right after they opened - and one moron complaining that the drinks were "too strong!" Here's an idea. Ask for a side of ice and enjoy a 2/1. The others seem too unsophisticated to understand the concept so perhaps they should stick to the local McDonald's or Taco Bell. We ordered a sangria flight, calamari flight and the slider flight. Everything tasted good. The drinks were probably the best part. Most of the calamari were fried and then sauced, so it was pretty soggy but otherwise the quality was good. The prices are a bit intense. With the flights starting around $20+ each, we assumed they would be closer to an entree size portion, but it was much more like an appetizer. I really enjoy flight style dining, because I like to try a lot of different things. The way the restaurant is priced, it feels like the amount you pay is as if you ordered full dishes of each thing you wanted to try, but only recieved a small bowl of each. Went out for lunch with a friend for the first time at Blackstone. Upon seating our server came over explained the menu and we put in our food and drink order. My friend asked if they had any iced tea and the server stated no, but then we saw the table next to us order iced tea so we were confused. Before placing any order I asked for separate checks which the server advised they could do. Food took about 45-50 minutes to come out which was wildly insane. We saw tables that were sat after us getting their food before us. The service was really non existent, I was beginning to think the server forgot about our food order because at one point she came over to us and asked if we had gotten menus..... after she took our entire order so I said "yes, you took our order, remember?"... the food, which I got the Vegan flight wasn't very impressive. The tiny slider was not that great tasting. The Romain leaf with hummus, I was confused on how one eats it because it was too floppy to pick up. Honestly the fries were the star of the show. Once we finished the server came back over, we asked for the check and the server brought one check. Confused, I asked if she split the check... and she said, not to our surprise that she forgot. I'm really not sure what was going on with our server or why the food took so long, but I also did not think it was really worth the price either. $17 for the flight (3 items) when I can go somewhere and get a full sized meal?... but that's just me. ABSOLUTELY YES! Real food. Fresh made, huge portions and delicious! Kind of confusing because you "pick 3",but once Peter (rock star of a bartender) explained it, I wish I could have eaten more! Hubby had a full meal of chicken parm and even he couldn't eat it all. I don't like red sauce, but it was delicious! I had Mexican chicken and steak egg rolls and I could only eat 1 of each. The sauce that came with them was a little horseradish and delicious! We will come back to this area just for the food! I wanted to try the espresso martinis but it had already been a long day. My wife and I stopped by there last night. It was terrible from start to finish as far as the service and the time it took on everything. Just to get water and the initial server to come to the table was 20 minutes. We ordered sangria flights and margaritas flights and it took 45 minutes to get our drinks from the time we ordered them. We ordered a French fry flight and a shrimp flight. It took over an hour to get them. We even had to get up and go to the bar to pay because no one came to the table. Unfortunately it was not just us. The people near by had all the same wait times. Over all the food was okay but no where near the wait times. We will not go back. Let's start with Ambiance , not that bad for being outside next to train tracks that are still in use!! Service started out ok and then you didn't see the waitress for a very very long time. We finally , after 1/2 an hour put in our food order and then it took well over an hour to get the food !!? For three sliders in a flight and three bruschetta in a flight I can't understand and how it took so long and the food was not all that appetizing . One of the bruschetta was a steak and bleu cheese , it was cold and dried out steak , the second was tomato and mozzarella, the tomato was no where to be found, the third was a peach and prosciutto with ricotta, I would have preferred the prosciutto to be thinly sliced and the peaches to be cubed instead of slices , it was like eating overly sweet maple syrup. All in all this was the worst experience of a restaurant my husband and I have been to in a very long time and will not be going back! Just went for drinks. Had the martini flight and a single bourbon drink. Not exactly craft cocktails, very sugary. I expected better quality cocktails if this is their theme. Also, the outside "storage" area behind the restaurant is an eyesore and a disgrace to downtown Putnam. I understand that you restaurant is very small but put up a fence or a privacy screen to hide your trash and supplies to keep the business district looking nice. read more

Sorry, nope. Not coming back. I love the concept and the ambiance, and I really wanted to like this restaurant. We arrived at 8:04, we received our meals at 9:24! It would be one thing if we ordered something elaborate, but one of us ordered a salad and the other ordered sliders. The sliders were delivered to our table about 8 minutes BEFORE the salad. In fairness, the buffalo chicken slider was fabulous but the cheeseburgers tasted like they had been grilled on a grill with fish. The food was fantastic!! It was fresh, hot, great flavor, and fast! the ambiance was wonderful ! The dim lighting that came from the chandeliers was beautiful and so were the candles!
