Last several times this place has fallen from what it was when it opened. I'll leave it at that and not recommend

I've been meaning to come here for a year now, and I was in town, so I gave it a try. I have to say…read morethat Thai and Ghanaian is not a combination you see. Today I tried the crab rangoons and combination pho, with a hot tea. The inside is spacious and the booth was comfortable. The menu has a lot of options, though the African section is small and loaded with spicy peppers, thus out of reach for someone who has reflux or can't handle spicy. The service is friendly, though be prepared to need to notify them you desire something. My rangoons initially came out crispy but cold. After sending them back I received much more brown ones in return. I struggle to say they're crab rangoons, but what they definitely are are pouches of flavor. The sweet cream cheese and the carrots get offset by flavorful spices, so each bite is exciting to eat. No need for the sauce, they're sweet enough without. The pho broth was unctuous, not salty or heavy or thin. Real care went into the making of that dish. I can say I was confused by the bone in beef shank, and I got not the ingredients on the menu. I got everything from the seafood (fish ball, shrimp, and cut squid), sliced chicken breast, sliced round, and a beef bone. I'm not complaining, I enjoy variety, but it also wasn't what was listed. Overall, I want to come back and try more. The reviews of the hot pot sound like that's a good choice, and there's plenty else too.

It was great to be back and to see this new restaurant open where I used to go for breakfast and lunch when it was owned by my late friend Deb. The portions were amazing and the food was spectacular. The bench seating was very comfortable, though some of the tabletops were pretty tall and all wood, so maybe not the easiest to sit at for a while. The restaurant has an extensive menu, but when I saw the pitmaster section I knew I had to try some of that. As an appetizer there were potato skins with pulled pork. Wow, these are not the wizened, come from a frozen box, potato skins. These were large, brimming with flavor and cheese. From the pit was brisket and ribs. Each came with corn bread, one with fries, the other with mac and cheese. Corn bread, so good, nice grainy texture, not a baked sugar slurry like you can find elsewhere, up here in the north. The brisket is super tender, doesn't need much sauce because it's packing all that natural and smoke flavor. The ribs are not dainty. You're going to be getting in here with your hands, like proper ribs eating. I'm so unused to that, and it resulted in me bringing half the rack home because a half rack was so filling. The edges of the ribs were dry, but all the interior was pull apart tender and delectable. Again, only needing a touch of their homemade sauce. The fries were robust but still crispy and seasoned well. The mac was the only miss for me. Too toothsome and not much flavor. Because they also do wood fired pizza, I got a cheese with ricotta to go. I'm not sure I ever need their pizza again. The crust was thin but not very crispy except on the cornicione, which had a lot of herbs sprinkled on it. The sauce disappeared, flavor wise, and so did the cheese blend. Side notes - I know everything has gotten crazy expensive, but the prices here took me aback. $16 for three pieces of bacon? Also, the 10% military discount was only applied to my ribs, but nothing else, so I'm happy they have one but it may only be applied to your food and non alcoholic drinks on Tuesdays and Fridays during their specific windows.

First off, the lunch special is where it's at. I got 4 entrees and 3 soups for $50- and this food will last me and my bf for at LEAST the whole weekend (breakfast/lunch/dinner). Lunch special is only Mon-Sat until 3:30pm so make sure you are timing your order right. Below is what I ordered: -3 maki roll special ($13.95): -2 spicy crab salad roll- This place legit has the best spicy crab salad roll I've ever eaten. This is one of my fav rolls and I always like to order it at other sushi places but other places never hit the same. The roll at Yamato has a slight crunch to it and the crab salad is seasoned and moist. -1 eel avocado roll- hits, pretty hard to mess this one up. -also comes with a side of soup -Teriyaki Yakiniku ($10.95): I always get this. Beef is tender and the fried rice is sooo good. Seasoned well and not too mushy and not too hard. Hits even more with the yumyum sauce drizzled on top. Pretty big serving- I can never finish the whole thing. Also they only give you two, but the glazed carrots are so good. This also comes with a side of soup. -Salmon Teriyaki ($10.95): I can't believe how affordable this is. Basically the same thing as the previous entree but salmon. You get two fillets that are kinda thin but live sup to the price. Well seasoned, though not as soft as other places. Also comes with a side of soup. -Chicken Yakisoba ($14.50): this was my first time having this dish here, it was okay. Kinda just tasted like lomein but not as seasoned- I had to pour lots of soy sauce over it. Personally wouldn't recommended unless you are looking for a basic and kinda bland noodle dish (might be good for kids?). Oh the chicken was a lil dry too. But it wasn't horrible- I still ate it because I like all noodles but prob won't go for this one again. The sides of soup are all good. The miso soup is a basic miso soup. The clear soup I think is just chicken broth? But then also has a few scallions and mushrooms which have obviously been previously dried. I feel like the lunch specials also used to come with a side salad but maybe they changed that? Anyway the salad dressing they give is usually BOMB and I'm sad I didn't get any this time. We ordered takeout and the wait was 30 minutes but there's plenty of things to do around the area while you wait. The staff are all nice, and it's not usually too busy inside. When I went in around 3 there were basically no dine in tables and like two other people picking up takeout. Overall, you have to know which dishes are good or not and if you want the bang for your buck, wait for lunchtime. If you get one thing out of this review... get the spicy crab salad roll and the beef yakiniku!!
