Please forgive me for not taking pics of the food we ate. My wife and I went here with her parents and this is what we ordered, for $60: 2 cheeseburgers, 1 king cheeseburger, fish sandwich, half pint clam strips, half pint clam bellies, fries, onion crisps and a small chocolate shake. The fried food was a little cold but really tasty. My fish sandwich was so simple and very delicious. Chocolate shake was the bomb. Clams and fires, good. Open during the summertime Deary Bros Mike's Stand serves many different seafood and American options. They have sandwiches, lobster rolls, fried seafood, as well as ice cream. They have an open picnic seating area. My favorite was the whole belly clam as well as the french fries. Everything with crispy and fried to perfection. I wish the portions were slightly bigger for the cost (the clams and shrimp, there were a lot of scallops however) but I understand that seafood market prices are going up every year. However, the food was very fresh, and I was able to share this entrée with my friend and still be content. My friend ordered ice cream as well and he really enjoyed it. He got the strawberry cheese cake ice cream and the girl who scooped the ice cream really loaded it up for him. Staff were friendly, polite, and welcoming. This is our favorite local place for ice cream and fried food every summer! Their fried food is always fresh and never greasy - you don't feel weighed down or oily after it! Their ice cream flavors are pretty standard but they make great sundaes and frappes. Recently I tried the chocolate, banana and pb frappe and it was really good. They have lots of picnic tables to sit at with most in the shade but it does get pretty busy there during peak meal times. I was happy that Deary Bros was opened for the season. I loved the food last season. This time I was very disappointed. I ordered Fish & Chips and Clam Cakes. The food was way over cooked. The fries were hard, the fish was dark and the edges tough from being over cooked. It was the same for the clam cakes. They tasted burnt. I threw them away. Very disappointed. Deary Bros has gone downhill in my opinion. The food is either a hit or a miss and for the pricing now or days it should always be a "hit". I called tonight for the first time this season. I ordered an order of Buffalo tenders and a 1/2 pint of clam strips for takeout. The girl said about 30 mins on the phone. Perfect. I showed up 40 mins later and couldn't find parking so I dropped my daughter off and drove around the loop about ten times. Finally my daughter came over and said she paid and it will be ready soon. She was informed they would let her know when it was ready. I drove around again another ten times and then found parking. My daughter stayed front and center waiting... another 45 mins pass and I go up to the window and explain I'm waiting for an order. The girl literally turns around and says it's right here.. it was sitting there for 45 mins without a single person letting us know. Needless to say my clam strips were SOGGY and there was no tartar sauce. And the tenders were cold and rubbery. Probably will not return. Do better deary bros read more

My friend and I recently had a visit to Deary Brothers Mike's Stand. We arrived at lunchtime on a Tuesday and it was still fairly quiet. They have a large menu selection and ice cream. The stand and grounds were very clean and the employees were very nice. We made our selections, my friend ordered a grill cheese, a cup of clam chowder and an ice cream soda. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a dozen clam cakes along with a bottle of water. My order came to $15.21 We sat down at a table to wait for our orders and they called our number when it was ready. My clam cakes were cooked perfectly, except there wasn't very many clam pieces in them. I brought half home for my elderly mom and the first thing she said when she bit into one was "where's the clams"? The clam chowder was just average, if I was to guess I would say it was from a can. I wouldn't bother getting that again. Overall the food was pretty average...nothing bad, but nothing that wowed me enough to stop in again. read more

They have excellent food, but you might want to pass on the ice cream, unless you get a sugar cone..those have a paper sleeve. The regular cones are bare. Some of the workers are handling money, and then grab the cone bare-handed to fill it. So disgusting. I have pointed it out to them twice, and also messaged them. This was absolutely horrible. We ordered upfront call ahead they said 25 minutes arrived on time order was not ready waited another 20 minutes to get the food. We left with our order... Typical roadside stand, which has either food or ice cream. Best way to describe the place is hit or miss. Food: mostly fried fare, nothing special. Nothing stands out. We once took our dog there and while we had ice cream, I ordered a Hamburger without the bun for her. It was pricey, considering it was nothing special but a pre fab low quality patty. I ordered it without the bun ( didn't expect a price break) but the $4 they charged was terrible. Hate to say it but McD's basic burger is better and cheaper. Ice cream: good quality ice cream, but the quantity for each size depends on the server. Once we ordered a medium size cone, and it contained the same amount as a kiddie cone. Asked about it and server (teenage kid) said that's normal. I asked to speak to manager and then he put another scoop on it. Problem is they have high school kids working and nobody is really supervising them. Because of this "hit or miss" thing they have, we hardly go there anymore. We only go if it's not busy, because this place isn't worth the wait! According to the website, the ice cream shop started in 1937. Have the freezers been updated since then? Because I ordered two scoops and was given a dish of melted ice cream. I saw the girl with no gloves scooping the ice cream and handling the cash (is anyone ServSafe certified there?), so I know it wasn't sitting for a period of time. There was no discernible scoop of ice cream in the dish, just a wilting mess. The employees will just sling any quality at the customers and not bat an eye. It's not like it was a sweltering day. It was actually on the cool side. But if you dip into what amounts to the consistency of whipped cream, maybe you shouldn't serve it. It is clearly not frozen, which presents another food safety issue. Oh wait, your employees don't care about food safety. And the website will talk about the history of processing all of their products since the early 1900's. They do not make the ice cream at Deary Bros. It is Bliss Ice Cream, which is now owned by Unilever. The quality of that product has gone down the drain anyway since the takeover, but there is no concern about quality here either. People want to equate how good a place is based on how cheap the prices are, read the reviews. Wonderful stand serving delicious inexpensive seafood, hamburgers, hot dogs etc. They serve lobster rolls several ways. I opted for the classic Connecticut Lobster Roll with warm butter on a top split bun. I loved it. They offer chicken tenders and chicken fingers. When asked the difference we were told the tenders were made fresh and the fingers were frozen. We went with the fresh tenders and they were undoubtedly the BEST chicken tenders we every had. The fries and cole slaw were delicious too. We enjoyed our lunch on the picnic tables outside. I wish this stand was in my hometown - I'd go a few times a week! read more

Classic, old-school New England- this place truly is as good as it gets. First off, any restaurant (be it a stand or not) that can survive in a solely residential setting is always promising. This place has been around forever, and their advertising is nil. I only happened upon it because I moved, and my boyfriend passed by while getting lost on the way to visiting me. This place describes itself as a "stand," and it is. You order at the window and wait at the bevvy of picnic tables until your number is called. The menu is extensive, featuring everything from hot dogs and hamburgers, to fried seafood dinners, salads, sandwiches, fried pickle chips (yum!) and an array of delicious ice cream flavors. Service is wonderfully friendly and informative. Sure, there are some high school kids waiting on you, but they (in my experience) know their stuff, and actually seem happy to be there. Seating is ample, and I've brought my dog on a few occasions, with no issue. Parking is on site, as well as on street. During peak hours it does get busy, but they are well-staffed and the line moves quickly. I highly recommend visiting Deary Brothers, especially on a mild summer night. Dearys stand doesnt try to be something its not. It is what it is. That said, they are excellent at being what they are. The ice cream is great but occasionally the high school kid might make you a sub par sundae. This is the only reason I'm only giving four stars. The ice cream itself is great and so are the toppings but the assembly is sometimes lacking. The burgers are good, really good. they are not huge pub burgers. They are awesome burger stand burgers, cooked on a flattop. They are juicy, the bun is buttery and well grilled and the toppings are fresh. They are also CHEAP. Like McDonalds cheap. I think its 3.95 for a good size double with cheese. The hot dogs are fantastic, again served on a buttery grilled New England style roll. The fish and chips is very good as well. Fresh breaded fish (not battered) served with hot crispy fries and some cool tangy slaw. The roll that accompanies it is the only weakness. They serve chicken tenders and fingers. The tenders are frozen and the fingers are fresh and hand breaded! You wont find that in too many places, especially in this area. Food was slow, first attempt was undercooked, after waiting thirty minutes for a burger. Try 2 was a hockey puck. All of which wouldn't have been bad except not a single person had gloves on and literally watched three teenagers pass my food around the kitchen and never once did I see someone wash there hands.
