They didn't have my favorite special (Thanksgiving Sandwich), so I decided to try their burgers with hand cut fries. OMGOSH, it was amazing! I think this is my new favorite burger spot. I had a great drink also (Georgia Peach) and my husband had beer, but he was very disappointed in the beer selection (a lot of IPA's and he doesn't drink everyday domestic beers). I hope they add a better variety of local beers soon.

Since I am gluten free, and there were no desserts, they made a lovely vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce dessert for me

This was our first time at Railside Tavern. We came on the recommendation from the owners of Woodstock Country Shoppe in Woodstock, CT. I came with my 90 YO MIL. She has a walker and it was easy to get into the tavern. No stairs and a direct shot into the dining room. The dining room is comfortable. Booths and tables. There is also a very nice outdoor patio with beautiful flowers. We grabbed a booth. The menu is varied. There is something for everyone. My MIL had the Lobster Ravioli. I am Celiac, so I cannot have gluten. I asked the waitress. They don't have GF bread, rolls, or pizza crust, but they will accommodate when they can. They can substitute veggie pasta. I opted for the broiled scallops with veggies and mashed potato. The food was delicious. My MIL said the Lobster Ravioli was excellent. My scallops were just lovely - not chewy at all - and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were lovely and the zucchini and yellow squash veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly. We both had dessert. My MIL had the warm apple crisp, which she devoured. There were no GF desserts on the menu, but the waitress made me a nice cup of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It was a nice sweet treat that hit the spot. We will definitely come again. The food was fresh and excellent. They were cautious with my gluten requests and I had no reaction. We highly recommend.

Our server was very nice. Asked how everything was but I did tell her my chowder was too thick. I am extremely fussy and cook for a living so I understand food preparation. The clam cakes or fritters as they are known in Connecticut we are very large tasty could've used more clams in a lighter batter. The clam chowder was over sick and needed to be lightened up, and the potatoes were falling apart. The taste was OK . The fisherman's platter was a good size portion although I did not eat it, but tasted a french fry, which were OK. It was still very good. The atmosphere was great. It would go back and maybe order something else. A four, but I would've given it a 3 1/2 only because my meal I think could've been better.

I got the strawberry and blueberry to go. It was amazing the guy that gave me my salad was super fried lynas well. Also added my son in his conversation with me and asked about his day

Locally owned tavern that is absolutely worth checking out if you're in the area! My girlfriend and I tried the stuffed flounder after seeing a couple next to us order it and it was by far some of the best seafood we've had in awhile! The creamy sauce they use complimented the dish very well and the mashed potatoes and green beans were delicious. The wings were also tasty and come in a variety of flavors. Plenty of beers on tap, TVs to watch sports, friendly and efficient staff, and great decor!

A great place for some good hearty pub food. The portions are plenty big and the service is prompt, attentive & friendly. We sat on the bar side and it was cozy and private in the booths. We would return.

A favorite for my family. My parents go frequently and every time I'm in town, we always make a trip. The food is always amazing. Their fish & chips are top-notch, as is their zoodles dish. My dad loves the salad with steak and my mom raves about their lobster bisque. The service is great and the patio is so nice. Everything is always super clean too. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Railside is!

First time coming here! I can't believe I haven't been sooner!! What a nice place! Packed which is a good sign! Wait was only like 25 minutes. Cute inside. Nice atmosphere and clean. The service was great! The food was delicious! The seafood stuffed swordfish was to die for! So hearty and tasty! It definitely hits the spot on a cold day! I will definitely be coming back!

    These are the "PRETZEL BITES"

Ordered the buffalo wings they looked like the were microwaved. Then ordered the pretzel bites and I guess this is a pretzel i don't really know wth this is first and last time smh 2 out of 10

    White pizza

What a great find! Great service, even better food and the drinks, amazing. I suggest the refreshing mango punch (alcoholic bev), white pizza and the Reuben. The side salad was one of the freshest salads I've ever had. Definitely going back. They have cloth linens and a lovely atmosphere inside. The bar section is closed off from the dining area and they are kid friendly.

    French Onion soup

Cute place, decent drinks and drink prices. We had the pumpkin martini and pumpkin espresso martini and both were good. Service was fantastic for the most part. Food was so so. We got French onion soup, which looked amazing and Instagram worthy, however it was very bland and disappointing. Nachos with chili came out cold. So, when I said can you please bring the soup first and the nachos second...I didn't expect them to be made at the same time and simply held in the kitchen until I finished my soup. But clearly that is what happened as the cheese was cold and congealed. The chili tasted good but was in short supply. Bonus points though for giving 2 sour creams without asking. We don't live in the area so probably won't be back. It was fine but not great. Would be a great spot to go for drinks though!

Service is great, very attentive and friendly. The food is what earns this three stars. I tried a stuffie, German onion soup, a Farmhouse burger, and a key lime Mason jar. The stuffie was a little small, and most of the flavor was imparted by the ham and the squeeze of lemon. The German onion soup, I'm not sure why it was German except to not be French? Outside the name difference, the onions were way too large, and there was a total lack of flavor going on in the soup. The crock was very large too. The burger and fries looked pretty good, and I enjoyed the flavors here. The fries were rough hewn, so there was good crispness from all the edges. The toppings of the burger, and the bun, were also hearty. Unfortunately, my medium rare burger was more like raw meat with surface browning. I'm a big fan of rare steak, but ground beef needs a little more cooking. Also, the house made ketchup is really more of a marinara sauce. If I'd ended up eating more of my plate before they took it away to re-fire the burger, I would have asked to replace the ketchup. The key lime Mason jar was e everything you want to wrap up a meal. Great flavor, lightness, citrus. I did have to bring most of it home but, unlike the burger they brought back in a box, I'm excited to get back into the key lime. From an accessibility stand point, there is no ramp to get in nor handicap parking, so the evidently don't want your business. Once you're in, there are some seats you could get in, but if this place were full it would be difficult to navigate for anyone. The bathroom is a single room, but very spacious and nice. So, mixed bag for access. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not racing to return.

The bench seating was very comfortable, though some of the tabletops were pretty tall and all wood, so maybe not the easiest to sit at for a while. The restaurant has an extensive menu, but when I saw the pitmaster section I knew I had to try some of that. As an appetizer there were potato skins with pulled pork. Wow, these are not the wizened, come from a frozen box, potato skins. These were large, brimming with flavor and cheese. From the pit was brisket and ribs. Each came with corn bread, one with fries, the other with mac and cheese. Corn bread, so good, nice grainy texture, not a baked sugar slurry like you can find elsewhere, up here in the north. The brisket is super tender, doesn't need much sauce because it's packing all that natural and smoke flavor. The ribs are not dainty. You're going to be getting in here with your hands, like proper ribs eating. I'm so unused to that, and it resulted in me bringing half the rack home because a half rack was so filling. The edges of the ribs were dry, but all the interior was pull apart tender and delectable. Again, only needing a touch of their homemade sauce. The fries were robust but still crispy and seasoned well. The mac was the only miss for me. Too toothsome and not much flavor. Because they also do wood fired pizza, I got a cheese with ricotta to go. I'm not sure I ever need their pizza again. The crust was thin but not very crispy except on the cornicione, which had a lot of herbs sprinkled on it. The sauce disappeared, flavor wise, and so did the cheese blend. Side notes - I know everything has gotten crazy expensive, but the prices here took me aback. $16 for three pieces of bacon? Also, the 10% military discount was only applied to my ribs, but nothing else, so I'm happy they have one but it may only be applied to your food and non alcoholic drinks on Tuesdays and Fridays during their specific windows.

I also got some BBQ chicken potato skins. The restaurant itself is very pleasant, a large interior that you wouldn't guess from the outside. It has a cozy ambiance, and it has a very local feel as a lot of the other customers and the staff seemed to know each other. The staff are also super friendly and there wasn't much time between any time I needed something and receiving it. The soup and salad bar is on the menu for $15 standalone and I'm not sure the limited variety warrants that, but as a part of the meal it was just enough. I really enjoyed the beef and bean soup, though the New England clam chowder was pretty bland. The salad bar was well kept and had enough to make a solid salad. The prime rib came out before the potato skins appetizer, so that was odd, but at least you know the kitchen isn't holding dishes up under a heat lamp. The potato skins were alright but the chicken was pretty dry and nothing I'd order again. The real disappointment was the prime rib. My knife wasn't sharp enough to get through the rubbery skin that surrounded it, rather than having a nice seasoned crust. The meat was firm and fairly flavorless, and the au jus that came with it didn't add anything either. The whole preparation needed more salt, pepper, herbs, and maybe a touch of aging to let it penetrate. The mashed potatoes and gravy, similarly, were bland and unenjoyable. I can say the menu is broad, so you may find something else on it, but I don't think this is your destination for delectable prime rib.

Overall, there's room for improvement, especially in consistency and seasoning. The staff and setting were fine, but the food felt like it was still in the "beginner chef" stage.

Holy 6 pound baby Jesus they were good. They came out piping hot and the cheese was in a bubbling side dish. This isn't your typical dab of cheese in a plastic condiment container that is commonplace nowadays. I had the Arturo Sandoval (spin on a Cuban) as my entree and it was also fabulous and came out hot. If I was being critical, the pork was a wee bit dry, but that happens sometimes and it really didn't take away from the sando. Even the small side of pasta salad was outstanding. It was pretty full, even on a Friday afternoon, which was a good sign. In another good sign, the menu is not gigantic, so they're doing a few things and usually doing them well. That was certainly the case with the food today. As a note, the interior is what you'd expect from a pizza and grinder place. Some booths and tables, plus a bar area that I only glanced into that also appeared to have tables. The service was amazing. Attentive, friendly, fast, answered any question and anticipated needs. The food ordered was a French onion soup, a fried chicken grinder and fries, and a 4-piece broasted chicken dinner. - French onion soup: very flavorful, complete with crouton and cheese, in a crock. One of the better French onion soups I've had. - fried chicken grinder: I really enjoyed the bread here, crispy crust (it was toasted) but a give so you weren't having to power through it. Proportionate toppings, and the fried chicken cutlets had flavor in the breading plus were juicy. A real joy to find good grinders like this. The fries were all crisp, no soggy ones, and no burnt ones. - broasted chicken dinner: wow! I was blown away by this chicken. It was so moist, the coating was thin but tasty, I was sad when I got full and had to take the breast piece home. I can't recall a time I've had chicken this successful, that wasn't rotisserie. It comes with a starch and a green (I didn't end up getting my green now that I think about it), but I didn't eat much of the onion tinglers as I was so focused on the chicken. Real home run here! I'm not sure I can be properly effusive on this. I also want to point out that, all this, plus two sodas, plus one cocktail, after tax before tip, came in under $60. In the current times and prices, this is a steal. So, 4 G's earns their five stars handily, hits every note just right, and now I'm sad I don't live closer. I can't encourage you enough to come here.
