This place was decent when I needed dinner in a pinch. It was clean and the service was great. Prices were affordable relative to portion size. My only complaint was the stuffed mushrooms appetizer were around 80% stuffing and 20% mushroom. They were also dry. Supposedly it was a seafood stuffing but I only tasted breadcrumbs. Other than that, our meals were good. I had the steak and cheese sandwich with fries. It was real shaved steak and it was huge. They also had grape nut pudding which I ordered to go. Cute restaurant just off RR 12, on Babcock Ave. They have a good size private parking lot. It was quiet when we arrived with just a couple other guests in house during our late lunch arrival. The woman at the hostess stand/cashier directed us to sit anywhere in the bar area. Menus were promptly brought over and a drink order taken. This menu is pretty big. Lots of sandwiches including Italian, patty melt, shaved steak, burgers, and clubs as well as plenty of salad options, pasta, chicken, pork and seafood. The entire back page of the menu is devoted to pizza. So you definitely have choices here. As there were few guests in house, our order was up amazingly quickly. They were also doing a pretty good take-away business while we were there. Not terribly hungry, I chose a basic tuna on white toast. Comfort food on a rainy day. Along with a cuppa (tea that is), it was just right. Lots of fresh, crisp lettuce to offset the tuna salad creaminess, and an excellent dill spear on the side. My SO chose the italian sub, un-toasted, with oil. He was very pleased with his choice. Soft roll, lots of meats and shredded lettuce. He had a BeHoppy draft and was quite content with his lunch. Staff were all friendly, our waitress has a sense of humor, dining area was quite clean. Two single restrooms are off the hall near the entrance. There is some wear, but they looked and smelled clean, and that is what matters. Ladies room has a baby changing station. A whiteboard on the dining area wall lists available desserts. I missed that until on our way out. Pies, puddings, cakes, so much looked good on that list. You'll want to look for that. Next time we find ourselves in the area needing a meal break, we will happily return. read more

I honestly go here about once a week with my mom every single week for years. They remember our order because we split the chicken parm... Every. Single. Time. (Life hack: Order with extra cheese because they definitely skimp on the melty mozz). The chicken parm is amazing .. the homemade soups are amazing. The seafood is amazing. My family has also enjoyed take out from here for many years. The food is always on point. Cons: the food is getting more and more expensive. $18 - $20 for a meal is almost fine dining pricing. But it's the only consistent, delicious food around these small town parts and people will continue to pay it. Our daughter Natalie took us for lunch at Gus while we were in town visiting; we absolutely loved it! The restaurant located in Main Street is easily accessible with plenty of parking spaces available... The dining area is not large but comfortable; the place has the feel of an old fashioned diner. The service is excellent! Talking to our waitress we find that of the restaurant's personnel has been working there for years, it reflects on their attitude and efficient service... We came in for an early lunch and ordered sandwiches and burgers accompanied by the best onion rings ever and scrumptious waffle fries! My tuna fish sandwich serve on a toasted roll was incredible! My hubby's burger was moist and tasty! We completed this most amazing lunch with rice pudding and baklava... Yes! The menu is extensive with lots of delish choices to try! A small-town pizzeria at its finest! I was introduced to Gus' Pub by a friend of mine who grew up in the area. We decided to get dinner there during a mid-week visit. We were greeted like were regulars, I loved it! After a few minutes, our server came over and took order and recommended the fish and chips that night because they were preparing them in a beer batter. I was torn between that or a grinder. Our neighbors had ordered a couple of pies which looked AMAZING. After going back and forth, I decided on a small chicken parm grinder. The ticket times on their food are phenomenal! The food was out in the drop of a dime, hot and delicious! The fish and chips that my friend ordered were cooked perfectly. The exterior was crispy and golden, with tender, flaky whitefish on the inside. The bread on my grinder was toasted perfectly, with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. I was so impressed and made my experience that much better. The staff were all so friendly and really understood the concept of the customer's needs. I was so happy with our service and our food alike. I would highly recommend Gus' to anyone! read more

After seeing the reviews, I have to say, I was pleasantly suprised that there was the possibility of a good restaurant being in this very desolate area of CT. Don't get me wrong, Plainfield is very beautiful. Long, windy roads, it has it's appeal. I just wouldn't picture it being a place where you'd find a culinary gem. And I was right, it's not. I'm not sure what the other reviewers found so great in Gus's, except maybe that it's the only game in town (quite literally) so it SEEMS really good. My waitress was very pleasant. The feel is one of a typical sports bar. It was fairly empty on a Thursday night when I was there, just a couple regulars watching the UCONN game. Got a burger, it was very obviously of the frozen patty variety. Fries were pretty bad, same thing, straight out of the freezer and into the deep frier. Side Caesar salad was okay. I'll be trying something else if I'm ever in Plainfield again. read more

Many visits to Gus' in the years we've lived in Moosup. It's pretty much the best of the limited food options in this area. It's the go-to place when you don't want to venture far. Pros: the Friday fish and chips, tuna melts, steak grinders. I've actually never had the pizza, though my kids loved their own small "personal" pizzas. Cons: the service sometimes seems kind of frantic, and the dining room is noisy and crowded...tables are crammed in. And the worst...drink refills are not free! Who still charges for every soda the kids order?? Still, I always have a tasty meal there, if not a culinary masterpiece. And it's five minutes from home. read more

Always great food and friendly service at Gus'. They have the best pizza. Today, I went with my husband and daughter. Employees were all friendly and offered crayons for my daughter to color with. I had the chicken salad sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The chicken salad was good, but I wouldn't say incredible. The cole slaw was great and I usually don't like cole slaw anywhere else. My husband had the Italian grinder which I tried and loved it! Fries were great as well, all though if you like them crispy, you would have to ask them to cook them a little longer. On the way out, they offer an unblown balloon to the kids if you want them to have one. Owner of Gus' is also very friendly. Ordinary restaurant with ordinary food. I kept my order ordinary: Grilled cheese and fries and beer. A family at a nearby table ordered pizza and it came out on a silver platform. It looked crazy good. The waitress asked a customer how his dish was and he said, "Hot!" I had to laugh to myself when she asked, "You want me to blow on it?!" Service was excellent. Living in Moosup/Plainfield means there are very little options available to us for dining out locally. We decided to give Gus' Pizzarama of Plainfield a go a few months ago and I am just not finally on here to write up my review. It was a busy night there, but we were seated promptly. They seem to have a young man that acts as a "Drink Waiter" and then Real waiters that take your food order. By the time our Real Waiter came over, she asked if we ordered our drinks yet, we said no -- the young man heard that and come over as well - So while we were attempting to place our food order, he was also talking to us asking what we wanted to drink - AT THE SAME TIME As the other waitress. I finally had to speak up and be like "What is going on?! We have two people talking to us at the same time, can we not do this??" So, he waited for us to order. They had Prime Rib, and rave about it, and I LOVE Prime Rib -- Being so busy, and kind of late in the evening, I took the time to ask the waitress to go back and ask the Chef if he did in fact have a piece of extra Rare prime rib left, because I only like it Extra Rare. Otherwise I would order something else. She came back and said they do. So, having done my part, I ordered the prime rib. My husband got a calzone. When our food arrived, my prime rib was easily Medium - not medium rare, Medium. I asked the waitress about it and she brought it back to the kitchen and then another server came back with it and said that was the rarest they had. Um ok.... I asked BEFORE HAND if you had extra rare... and they said Yes. So they Lied. My Husbands Calzone was COLD on the inside. We have never had a calzone that wasn't STEAMING when you cut it open... I make them at home, and its Always way to hot to eat when its cooked properly. When we were done, and had paid - I asked the waitress to let the cooks know that they should not lie to customers about what they do and don't have when we ask in advance. She got defensive with me and said that it wasn't her fault. I told her that I understand that, that is why I requested she talked to the cook about it, because he is the one that LIED TO ME. I told her that this was our first and LAST visit to this restaurant - which is a shame because in a town with about a handful of restaurants, even mediocre restaurants would get frequent visits just because they are close by. But not this one. I say stay away, unless you like being Lied to, crappy food, and crappy service. read more
