Went there for a lunch. Not to busy and spacious. Food was flavorful and portion size were large. Our server Stephanie was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely return.

Cuppa's Sicilian Supreme Pizza

I ordered takeout pizzas as I hadn't tried their new location and it had been a while since I had pizza at their old location. As a result i can't speak to the personnel or the new location, though i hear it's looking good. There was a large Mediterranean, a prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella, and a Sicilian supreme. The Mediterranean was alright, a lot of cheese and nice, tangy vegetables. They call their pizzas New York style, but I have never had a saltine-crisp crust when in NYC. Simultaneously pretty pale, so it's a feat of cookery. The prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella also has arugula, EVOO, and shaved parmesan on the menu. What I received was said cracker crust, with a slight sheen of olive oil, arugula, and prosciutto. I removed everything from my pizza in search of either cheese. Nada. What I did have, the arugula worked to balance the aggressive salt from the prosciutto. Not thinking I'll ever get that again. The Sicilian looked to be on the right track, but while it was nicely baked, the dough was still dense and chewy, not airy at all, and the sauce lacked body under a sparse layer of cheese. If we'd stopped at the Mediterranean I think we would have found the pizza passable, but 2/3 of the order actively angered us and that's not going to make me want to try more.

Manicotti

I've been so sad since Paul took manicotti off their menu. I've been to the old location a few times and don't know if it was on the menu then, and I missed it. I was excited to see if it was in the menu and although it was not the same as Paula's, it was better. I was also not prepared for how big the portion is. Got lunch for tomorrow! I'm glad to see the quaint pizzeria in a new expanded location. It's not the same cozy location now, but it still feels friendly, as always. Every server I've had was amazing. I'll be happy to return!

Great little spot. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the food was really delish. Only "complaints", the salad was iceberg lettuce which just doesn't do it for me. Too many white pieces of lettuce that easily brown. Also the pizza was very floppy and the cheese and sauce slid right off when you pick it up. But overall the flavor was solid and the sauce was excellent. My kids had spaghetti and meatballs which was very good. Recommend!!

The food was amazing and the service was perfect. It was our anniversary and everyone made us feel special. We have leftovers and cannot wait until tomorrow to eat them!

Two spectacular specials today at La Stella's!

Prosciutto and fig pizza

We stopped in Norwich on a roadtrip up north. The town was quite desolate with many abandoned buildings and abandoned storefronts, but La Stella had great reviews on Yelp, so we went! The employees were very friendly attentive, and they seated us immediately. The restaurant has plenty of tables and booths, and it has a casual atmosphere. The menu has a LOT of great gluten free options for pasta and pizza, which was awesome because we had a gluten free person in our party. We ordered 3 pizzas (including a gluten free pie) and an eggplant parm. We were expecting individual-sized pizzas, but they were HUGE. Big enough to comfortably share. The eggplant parm was also huge. The eggplant was stacked in layers on top of a heaping pile of spaghetti. Massive portions all around. At the end of our meal, we were offered free chocolate chip cannolis that had been freshly made. One of the men working did have a very lengthy political conversation with us at the end of our meal, which was strange and uncomfortable. But overall, he was nice. That's the only reason for 4/5 stars. Lots of street parking available, and the restaurant is on the bottom floor of a beautiful building.

Jessica(mom) provided the best service possible. Th ambiance was warm and welcoming and we were made to feel like family. The food is so great that I travel over 30 miles to eat at this restaurant.

House Salad Eggplant Parmesan

I ordered takeout from La Stella Pizzeria. Since I didn't visit the actual restaurant, I can't comment on the service or ambiance. Given the reviews, I was expecting for the food to be a bit better. They do have quite an extensive menu, so maybe I just got some of their less popular items. I started out with the House Salad, which was decent, but had a lot of iceberg relative to the toppings. For my main meal, I had the Eggplant Parmesan, which I felt was the real letdown. I did enjoy the sauce, but it tasted a bit like frozen Eggplant Parmesan from a grocery store. I'm not sure if it was because the chunks of eggplant were so thick or if it was fried too much, but both the eggplant itself and the breading tasted off for me. I'd have to try the pizza to see if that's any better!

That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

A very pleasant Italian eatery experience. I ate in at…read moreJack's for lunch and it is clear this should be thought of as more than just a pizzeria. The seats are all really comfortable looking, the service was fast, attentive, and friendly. The menu isn't vast, so there's faith that the food is being cooked for real. Tried today were: A slice of regular cheese and Sicilian cheese pizzas, a meatball grinder, and seafood ortolana (from the specials menu). Sicilian cheese - thick crust that wasn't too heavy. Very airy and crunchy. The sauce is a little sweet, but the overall slice was really good, especially with some parmesan added on top. Regular cheese - thin crust, crunchy but still pliable. This one needed the parmesan because I felt it was pretty bland on its own. Meatball grinder - soft meatballs with mild seasoning, that sweet sauce, melted cheese, on a bread that was toasted but not overly flavorful. A solid grinder that is acceptable in every way but not blowing you away. Seafood ortolana - while this is a special, I can see that they know how to mostly cook seafood (the scallops cooked way too long and were tough as a result, but the shrimp and calamari were just right) and pasta. I like that the vegetables were cooked to where they still had a bite to them, no one wants soggy squash. There was a flavor tone that I was never able to pin down, I thought maybe propane? jarred minced garlic?, something with a sweet back end but sharp front end. In any case, it hovered on the edges of every bite, becoming inescapable and not overly pleasant. In general, this is a good restaurant, I'll be trying other food here in the future and can say that I'm confident you could have a nice meal here too. In terms of handicapped access, their main parking lot has one spot, but then steps to get in. A single parking spot with ramp access is available on the back side of the restaurant, looks to be where employee parking is as well.

I discovered this place late at night one night due to pregnancy cravings for potato skins. I literally googled "Norwich potato skins" and this wonderful establishment was the first result on Google. And I am so glad my cravings (fate) brought us together. Myself and the whole staff at my office have ordered so much of this menu that I'll just cover it by saying the food is consistently good. Family pizza joints in New England are a dime a dozen but the issue is they are rarely consistent nor is every item on the menu good. Tulli's is the exception. Salads are massive and fresh, the clam strips are fresh, pizza is delicious, grinders large and filling, chicken fingers are massive, and the potato skins....worth the Google search. I'm sure I'll be in sometime this week, picking up another massive order :)

From what I have gathered there's a crew that gets it, and a crew that doesn't give a crap. I've ordered the same thing the same way and get different amounts of meat each time. I pay for extra meat because they are a bit skimpy with their cold meats. I've paid for extra meat 5 times and have received extra meat twice and one of those correct times was because I ate there. The time I ate there was a quiet and pleasant experience. Tall blonde haired kid was my server, I say kid with respect, you can tell he's young but he was also very respectful. Everything came out timely and perfect. I'm not sure I'll be ordering takeout anytime soon. Could you imagine opening the grinders in store to make sure there's extra meat before ya leave? Cringe, no thanks. Just make it right to begin with. These sandwiches are not cheap especially when I'm gluten free and have to pay en extra $5 for the bread I can eat. The grinders are great when made to your liking, I'll give them that.
