The pizza here is awesome sauce. I would totally recommend this pizza place, because the service is impeccable. The person at the front counter gives you a "sampler" piece of plain cheese pizza while you're deciding what you want to order, and it is SO GOOD! The entire vibe is very chillax. It's a restaurant with a surprise- there is a large dining room in the back after you make a couple of turns from the front door. Just as I stepped in the door I said to myself- ugh, small room with a couple hightops. That's not what I wanted for a dinner spot. I was greeted by a staff member who said "dining in?"- I said yes... he said- follow me! I had a table along the window and the were a sundry of other dining combinations seated around me. When I started to leave, there was a couple that came in celebrating their wedding anniversary by themselves. I didn't get the exact number but it was nearly 50 years. My server was kind, friendly and quick. I asked for her recommendations and she listed a couple. I landed on the Italian Festival- serving of manicotti, ravioli, and stuff shells. Went with my son in law to the one in Norwich Town. I got the Italian Festivals. It has ravioli, stuffed shells, and manicotti. He got the lasagna and salad. He said the salad was excellent but the lasagna was not. The meat was dry because there wasn't any ricotta cheese in it and not enough sauce to keep it moist while cooking but was still edible. My dish was ok nothing to brag about. The ravioli and shells were not fully cooked had hard areas. But they had plenty of cheese inside. Could have used a little more sauce on them but that's because I like to taste the sauce as well as the cheese and noodle. We both really enjoyed the wine We usually have a wonderful experience so we will be back. The waitress was fine. The place was beautifully Decorated for valentines day. Great Pepperoni Pizza and cheesy fresh Calzones here at Illianos Grille. We loved coming here for dinner. A little on the expensive side, but it was well worth it with that fine Italian wine as well. So, here i am again trying to communicate and give the benefit of the doubt about their Chicken Ceasar salad. NOPE! NEVER AGAIN! Let me backup a minute. I ordered the same thing almost 2 months ago. I also left a review for that order as well although the only complaint I had had at the time was there was not enough romaine lettuce which is the cheapest thing of the whole salad. The owner responded to that review and advised me to communicate with them and to give them another chance. Now I did try calling a couple weeks ago but I got cold feet when I tried to communicate with the girl on the phone about the lack of lettuce on my last order and she was very unsure about taking my order with my request of having a full takeout container. So I quickly just told her never mind and I canceled my order because it just didn't feel right. So today I decided to try again. When I spoke to the girl on the phone I explained to her what had happened previously and that I didn't communicate and now I am and what my expectation was. She said she would alert the owners as well as make sure that the salad was good. Now understand that in the last review I said that everything was good the only thing that was the problem was the lack of a full salad for $16.05. Now today, the whole thing was atrocious! You'll see in the attached pictures that when opening up the container even with the chicken and the cup of dressing, that the container didn't even overflow the first initial part of the lid let alone it was just about even. Now I communicated and yet still the same result if not even less this time. But the difference between last time and this time is that either the chicken had lemon on it or the salad dressing was rancid but the whole thing tasted awful!! The croutons also tasted a little peculiar as well a flavoring that I can't quite pin what it is. Overall I am actually thoroughly disappointed and I'm pretty sure this was my last time ordering with them. I can go elsewhere and get the same thing for the same price if not maybe a little bit cheaper and get a container that is overflowing with food. I highly do not recommend a takeout salad because you don't get enough for what you pay for. It's lettuce people lettuce! But the bad taste or rancid taste is what really sealed it for me today!!! read more

We went for a group celebration. Someone ordered a capocollo grinder. The capocollo meat was gray and when the server was notified she just said "oh". They let her know they did not want anything else ordered. The server brought a sprite to our table and when going to set it down spilled it on a chair, floor and a guests bag. She saw it and acknowledged it but did not come back with napkins to help clean it up. We will not be going back to Norwich Illianos. read more

We just had lunch here. The first indication that this place cared about its diners was when the waitress suggested we move to a different table for more legroom. She was right. The pasta with wild mushrooms was exceptional. My husband had the eggplant Parmesan- clearly freshly made. Our waitress Jo Emma (who was cheerful and helpfull) suggested the freshly made tiramisu. I gave here two at best because they've always been pretty expensive but their food's always been high quality now the food quality and the way that they're cooking it especially at their Norwich location usually comes out greasy and not the way that a pizza should be it's not New York style or Chicago style or New Haven style it's illiano's style and it's not a very good style and it's a costly one. The chicken Masada came out in a bowl with the chicken cut up and had a thick brown gravy on it. Did not look like anything we ever made in the Italian restaurant I worked at in little ltaly in Hartford CT where I was raised. My girl asked me first impressions. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the service was great and the waitresses are very friendly. The food is another story! We had garlic bread, the Italian Festival and eggplant parmigiana. I knew we were in trouble when the garlic bread was flavorless and the side of marinara tasted like a can of crushed tomatoes with no seasoning whatsoever. Each entree came with a cup of soup or salad. My husband ordered clam chowder which looked and tasted like white water. When even asked me "how can clams be flavorless?" My cup of lentil soup was watery and flavorless as well. The real surprise came from the eggplant which was a layer of mush. No breading that I could see and no crunch. I sent it back because it tasted disgusting and they were kind enough to take it off the bill but still charged me $5 for the cup of lentil soup that I barely touched. I was a little disappointed the last time I visited. Each time I go the service is always great, they greet you as soon as you come in the door. My food this past time, however, was not too great. My calzone was very watery and didn't have any flavor. It also did not have a lot of filling. I was very disappointed but my boyfriend was happy with his sandwich which we ended up splitting.
