Their antipasto salad is as big as your head. They include a nice size container of dressing 'on the side', but you can order more for a couple of quarters. The produce was very fresh and half of it came home with us. I had the tuna melt 'deluxe' which includes fries and a small container of cole slaw. The sandwich is served on a sturdy rye bread and isn't grilled enough to melt the cheese. The tuna salad was very bland. No spices in the dressing. The fries are larger and soft. The slaw was chopped small in a mayo dressing with vinegar and sugar. The staff were all friendly. The restaurant is clean. Two entrances lead into the dining area and a third leads into the bar. Good size menu offers salads, soup, sandwiches, pasta and pizza with a few entrees. A few counter seats are available, the rest of the dining area is booth seating. read more

I'm very picky and a major food critic and the food is great at Ryan's and the staff and owners are always involved. Mondays is definitely pizza night and has a great special with getting a free small pizza 2 topping when you buy a large any pizza. the meals I've had have been to die for fish and chip, steak and cheese fully loaded, gyros, chicken parm. they will not disappoint you. try them OMG!!! read more

Portions are okay not huge calzones usually come out a little too crispy for my liking very dry. The pizzas are okay cheese seems like it's not mozzarella but it is I don't know maybe it's fake I'm not positive it just has like a weird taste to it. The marinara sauce the last time I got it like maybe three times in a row so far recently and the tomato sauce that comes with it is very runny and watery at best. The only way that's different is it for some reason all three times recently I got it the same bad cook and they have another cook that makes good food I'm not positive on that so I guess you could try it for yourself but be forewarned. read more

Ryan's place is your average Pizza restaurant. It had your typical variety of pizzas, burgers and sandwiches. If this is what you're looking for, I do not think you will be disappointed. Food was fresh, seasoned well and delicious. The service was good and the ambience is what you would expect from a pizza place. If you're in the area, give them a shot! read more

This place is now " Ryan's Place". Formerly Canterbury American Grill, formerly formerly Broms. This is a completely different owner than the formerly mentioned. The food here is great. Prices are reasonable. Portions are HUGE. Staff is friendly. Everything you could want in a home town restaurant. We do take out from here... favorites include: * seafood jambalaya * its occasionally on special and it is SO GOOD. So full of so much yummy seafood and rice. Plus I can eat it for at least 3 meals. Great place for a quick bite. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and there was no trouble finding a table. Waitress was very attentive and stopped by often to ensure we had everything we needed during the course of the meal. My husband got the steak bomb wrap and I had the buffalo chicken wrap. They were both piping hot and mine tasted great. The steak wrap could do with a little seasoning but otherwise it was good. We both asked for our fries well done and they came out well done (most places say yes and the fries are never well done). We don't live in the area but if we're out this way again, we'll definitely be back. read more

Ryans has great customer service and pays attention to customer requests when ordering. I have ordered from multiple local businesses and asked for no onion due to an allergy. Ryan's has never gotten it wrong. They were also kind enough to deliver on a pretty large ask on my part. I hope they are able to offer home delivery in the future. I want to say this place is called Ryan's place. Going on a Wednesday I wasn't expecting much but noticed they had a few specials. I got the baked seafood trio, which consisted of fish, scallops and stuffed shrimp... we will start off with the fish, the middle was cooked perfectly and had flavor after putting it in the melted butter that was on the plate, the ends of the fish were dried out but edible. The scallops, oh the scallops, tasteless and rubbery, tasted undercooked to my liking. The stuffed shrimp, the breading had a very awful wine taste and the after taste.. well I can't say because I spit it out in my napkin. The shrimp were good tho! So over all for my first time really not impressed and don't recommend it. Maybe living on the coast I have different taste buds for seafood?.. read more

Got takeout for the first time this past weekend, and it was very good and the pricing was fantastic. The specialty pizzas are neat and the grinders are perfect portions. Food was ready in 15 minutes. It didn't knock my socks off but it got the job done for the price. read more

I'm sorry to say but things are not like they were when we first left a review, nearly a year ago. The prices have escalated, which I can understand, but the portions have also shrunken and the quality is also diminished. It's a 3 star at best now. The pizza restaurant in the next plaza is a much better choice now. We've tried breakfast multiple times hoping it would be at least good, but it isn't. Breakfast is barely 2 stars. read more

Good food at a great value. I took my 2 kids here with my girlfriend's 2 kids and we ordered apps and entrees. The bill was $56. They had live music playing and everything about the meal was enjoyable. Would definitely recommend for families looking to eat out. read more

Hiding in plain sight in very rural, sleepy Canterbury CT, Ryan's Place is a hidden gem with delicious food -- especially the creative specials -- extremely reasonable prices, and very friendly staff. We are from "down state" Newtown, which has no lack of great restaurants all around it. We spent last night at a Canterbury AirBnB for an event we were going to, and googled around for a dinner place. Ryan's Place is relatively new and used to be a less-than-exciting standard, average diner called something else. It still basically has the look and feel of a diner-in-a-plaza, but the decor is rustic/vintage cute (but not overboard), and the food is great, plentiful, and affordable. There are also pizza, grinders, and all the standard "American" fare, but we focused on the specials like Seafood Philippo: shrimp, sea scallops, calamari in a light carbonara-esque sauce with red peppers and other veggies over angel hair pasta. We also got the Asian Chili wings, perfectly cooked and just saucy enough -- not goopy. If you're up in the rural eastern quarter of the state, GO! I really don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

It is a good restaurant but not great. The portions are excellent, but the food is ok. It's not anything to go crazy about, kind of on the bland side (I had the roast turkey dinner). My son had fish and chips, and that was actually really good. The service is good and the servers are friendly. The sandwiches our guests ordered were standard deli sandwiches and were also good. I hope they can get a better menu for lunch. I've been there for breakfast and it was just ok as well. They are the only breakfast place in town, I hope they step up their game! read more

The food is delicious, and prices are very reasonable. Clean, spacious, with friendly service. The menu is varied. I highly recommend the Reuben sandwich, while my husband says the baked stuffed scrod was excellent. Will definitely go back many more times, can't wait to try them for breakfast too! read more
