First impression of the place, good place to hang out for a beer. The bar is comfy. Great waitress, friendly staff. Not too load good place to eat and relax. We were here on Mother's Day. I had the lobster casserole, omg delicious. My son had the chicken Parmesan, he ate the whole thing. My mother in law had stuffed shells. And baked scallops for my father in law. Drinks were good. So let's get this out of the way The place is very clean read on... Chelsea our waitress is amazing. High energy, friendly, and knows everything on this menu which has like a hundred items. Fantastic personality. I stepped into 1975. There is a salad bar with a sneeze guard. There was soup and salad. Fresh. I didn't have the soup but my friend said it was ok. But know what happened, people on line at the salad bar talked to eachother. So now you know, it's Friday night and the place is packed. Energy high, people having fun and cross table conversation. It's not a dinner, but the menu reminds me of one. Food is better than a diner and seems made here. But there is so much I'm not sure how it all could be. Maybe because it's a small town, and they hire right, with good food. It's like cheers in here. It might not be a Michelin star resturant but I have never had a complete stranger at a Michelin star resturant hand out with me at the salad bar and discuss which homemade bread might be better. Now one thing interesting. Two tables over someone brought their own bottle of pepsi and has their iPhone propped up watching TV without headsets. I can hear it. It's not quiet here, but this is out of place and out of line. But not the resturant fault. The staff hasn't stopped, and they are not shorted handed. There is an insane amount of staff on. Both front and back of the house. Side notes. The table next to me got the veal parm, it looked fantastic. He didn't finish half of it, the serving was huge. We've been there quite a few times over the years, but this is the first time I've done a review on them. They now have new ownership with the new owners being previous employees and are still running a tight ship and beautifully done. Food is good. Prices are good and portions are large. Very old school when you enter the restaurant, which I loved. Salad bar in the middle of the dining room was a sight for sore eyes. The food was good, the service was ok. I only give it three stars because they sat us in the middle of a 30 person party knowing they were coming in. It took over an hour to receive our food but it was good. So it was off night for a first visit but we will definitely be back. The "party" that we were literally stuck in the middle of made it for not such a pleasant dinner. The food was amazing. We got the meat baked ravioli (5/5) and the prime rib w/ mashed potatoes (4/5). The prime rib was great, I'm just not a big meat eater so a side of Angel hair pasta would be amazing (they only have spaghetti or penne). The salad bar was pretty nice, I do wish there was more than one soup option. I wanted to try the shrimp Jammie Dinner but was told that was no longer on the menu. Went on a Saturday afternoon for their Prime Rib and salad bar. Waitress seated us (two handicapped seniors, one with 2 canes) far from the salad bar when there was a table four feet away. Wife wanted the prime rib, we were shown the specials which included the prime rib. The price was $39.95 or $31.95, which we questioned as their website (which they deny is theirs, but someone else's posting which lists the price as $21.95 or $19.95). We stated the the price was on the menu 3 weeks ago, but now it states market price. The waitress went to talk to someone about the difference and stated that the price quoted was what we would have to pay and any online menus were not up to date. Another waitress stated the menu hasn't changed in over a year. Typical bait and switch scenario. read more

This place deserves so many better ratings. The food is DELICIOUS. The salad and soup bar is always so fresh and amazing. My boyfriend and I have been here multiple times now and we've had the chicken parm 10/10, the 16oz NY sirloin which was amazing. The lasagna is great. The best of all to date is the steak teriyaki. It was so tender & flavorful. Their prices are phenomenal & one of the main reasons why we go there all the time now. It's hard to find amazing food for a decent price. We have yet to try their seafood but we are positive it's going to be great! Even their chicken tenders are amazing. Also their food doesn't come out in 15 min because it's always fresh & you know you're getting something good! Patience is worth it for what you get. read more

stopped in today on our way home from Mass. I ordered the prime rib with baked potato and I also requested Horse radish sauce. Prime rib (which was good) was delivered. Rest of the order was not. My husband had to remind the waitress. When she finally returned she had the baked potato and 2 small plastic containers. 1 was sour cream and the other was horse radish "so I could mix it myself". I was stunned. I'm normally an over-tipper but not today. We also won't be coming back. read more

I hate to be one of those people who only posts when there is something negative to say. First of all, however, I should say that I have had many good experiences both at the bar and in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same of the takeout service. I called and ordered a pizza. Of course it took me 20 minutes, as usual, to get through. I ordered my pizza and was told it would take about 30 minutes. When I arrived my pizza was done and sitting in the window for pickup. It took me 10 minutes to get someone to come to the counter and ring up my pizza. Needless to say, it was cold when I got home. The young lady who served me was very short and impatient with me. She even swore at me with no such encouragement from me as I never swear. After asking them 4 times to please send someone out to ring out my pizza she came out with 2 just finished pizzas and said "I'll be right with you, Brad was here first". Well Brad could not have "been there first" if my pizza was up at least 15 minutes before his. As she handed me my pizza she said "this just came out". It had not just come out. It was sitting there from the moment I walked in. She rang me up and said "have a nice Valentine's Day" and I replied, "not to you". She responded by saying "neither to you, you miserable prick", as I walked out the door. I also asked her if the new menus were printed and available. (it has been many months since your price increases and there is still no menu?) Of course she told me there are none. So I asked her when we might finally be able to access the menu online. She said I would have to ask the owner. Not the customer service I would expect. Without a resolution to this issue I will be an ongoing and vocal voice in singing the Riverview's issues to will ever listen. read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews! Overall I think the food is good and they often have different specials! My husband and I love the salad bar. The bartenders also make good drinks! The only negative I would say is that they are not open late. The "vibes" are definitely an older crowd which we don't mind at all. Staff were super friendly. We went with a total of 5 people. 4 of us ordered the Prime Rib and we should have asked the price because it said, "market price." Fair enough. We thought it would probably range mid 20s high 20s. Anyways, all four of us hated it and we are pretty relaxed people. It tasted like someone boiled it? We all ordered medium rare and got well. Our total came to like $160 and we didn't even really order any appetizers. The salad bar was okay. Nothing to die for tbh. This place was overhyped and even that's being kind because the reviews are reflective of their quality. I would not recommend this restaurant. I am sure some of the other food would have been better. But $160 (my nephew got a small pizza in all fairness) was pretty damn high got what tasted like microwaved food (it wasn't literally microwaved but was not good). We buried my Grandmother in the nearby cemetery last weekend, and we were looking for a place to gather for lunch afterwards. We were distracted with grief to do much ahead planning. We stopped in here with a group of 15. There was only a couple of people working but they accommodated us. The bartender who served us was on top of things and took our orders. She had drinks out quickly. We ordered a couple of apps and a few pizzas including the Moussaka and Alpine. All the pizzas were great, but the Alpine knocked us out. It was amazingly good with a perfect crispy crust, the cheese were a perfect gooey combination. We ate it too fast to take a picture. We talked about that pizza in the following days and wish we were closer to have more. So freaking good. I am torn in this one . I gave it 4?stars but 3 and a half might be better We had a simple meal as we had a larger lunch than we might normally have had a different establishment. Draft beer list is pretty abysmal. Not sure the last time is was in a restaurant that had bud, bud light. Coordinate light and other non decscripts. The did have Elyissian Space Dust but to my taste is just a way over hopped beer . Huge bottle collection. I took the safe choice Sam Adam Boston Ale. They had huge menu including seafood and American Italian. I am always wary of menus of this sort. What does chef do best and how much can the line cooks accomplish. I chose the steamer app and the salad bar . My wife chose the fried shrimp app. Pretty sure those shrimp came out of a freezer bag but none the less they were nicely fried . Meh! She regretted the choice. We both had the salad bar option which thankfully only cost 4.95 when buying a menu item that did not included it. The ingredients were all fresh but the choice limited and you really couldn't build more than your basic diner salad and other than the chick peas no protein. Don't pay 8.95 for the salad bar alone I had the steamer appetizer special which was about a dozen and half well cooked sand free steamed clams .They were fresh and nicely steamed . The have way more challenging menu items . Without having those it would hard to really evaluate. Salad bar was fresh but unimaginative The beets, marinated mushrooms were likely commercial The Steamers were fresh and well done which is a sign they can deal with fresh seafood. I have eaten at Riverview a few times, and have not been disappointed until now. Let me preface my remarks by stating my service was excellent. Unfortunately, it kinda goes downhill from there. The soup (beef minestrone) and salad were fairly predictable, and the blue cheese dressing was tasty. My duck came out with old looking corn that was not warm at all. The waitress graciously returned it, and it was replaced by some hot, canned green beans. Not what I'd expect for $21.95 for my meal. My duck portion comprised two drumsticks, a thigh, and a breast. Put plainly, the duck was overcooked, and it was obvious when one looked at the skin to see how little was left. The fat on the body had been over-rendered, and the meat was dry. Not at all indicative of what roasted duck should be. To say the least, this was my first major disappointment at Riverview. read more

Have been there a bunch of times everything was great, food , staff... the the fifth time about two months ago I noticed that the staff didn't care, we seated and gave menus, then there was another couple that was seated right after us, they order was taken and we were left in the dark. I asked the server how about taken our order, she said oh... waited fir about 45 minutes to get our order we were told it got lost.. and everything was wrong... fast follow stopped by last weekend the service was great but the salad bar wasn't doing it for us, veggies were brown and didn't taste right... the meal came the wife's was okay, but mine " fried chicken " was not cooked and cold sent it back, it was okay... apparently there food is not what it's supposed to be ... maybe owners are being cheep... will never go back again .... read more

Riverview has become like a family to me. The staff is everything. When I visit with my kids they can look at the fish and lobsters, color and buy from the candy and toy dispensers. My kids love it here, definitely a family restaurant. Can also have a nice date night here up in Fireside near the fireplace. Give this place a chance, get to know the staff, they are seriously the best, let them know Heather sent you. Oh and if you are looking for prime rib on the weekend I highly suggest calling ahead and reserving it because they may run out, but it's so delicious. Cheers. read more

Moved to the area a year ago and gave Riverview a try because it was so close to home. I've found in the past that if a place has a menu 4 pages long, it means they do a lot, but nothing special. I was right! Food was disappointing and the service was slow. The other night, about 6 months after our first visit, we figured that we'll try it a second time, just in case the first time was an off night for them,,,, it wasn't!! My wife ordered a simple pasta and meatball dinner, not being that hungry I ordered soup and salad bar. On my visit to the salad bar, I picked up a salad plate and found it had some sort of greasy, slime on the bottom! I had to go wash my hands before continuing with a "clean" dish. The salad bar was certainly nothing special and the Manhattan clam chowder was flavorless. I ate slowly, expecting my wife's dinner to arrive shortly (they were not busy), I was wrong again. It took just under an hour for her plate to arrive! We were just about ready to walk out at that point. The waitress we had performed with the same quality as the food! I always give a place 2 shots at getting it right, this place failed both times, and we won't be back. It would've been nice to have a spot close to home. So incase anyone wants to know for future reference my family ordered from Riverview this evening. I bring my takeout home and both the seafood platter and fish and chips were barely covering half the carton. Completely unlike them. We love their food and spend at least $100 every time we go. So I call and ask to speak to someone cause I didn't know what happened. This guy I'm assuming the owner gets on the phone I start to explain to him and I tell him the food is always amazing and we order all the time and before I can say anything else he starts yelling at me like I'm a child and then he tells me to fuck off and hangs up on me!!!! I'm not a complainer at all but what kind of business owner talks to people like that?!?!?! So I will never spend another dollar there again!!!! read more

Great salad bar. Always filled and clean. The food seems to be hit or miss. Cocktails are good.

They specially made shrimp scampi for me - which was nice however; the shrimp was over cooked which working in the restaurant business for years I knew they used the shrimp cocktail shrimp which was already precooked - so it was tasteless and the texture was horrible ! Shrimp cocktail is $8.95 and Fried shrimp dinner is $15.95 - they charged me 21.95 !! So it was $13.00 for garlic and a small portion of spaghetti- my husband got the cheeseburger club -with Mayo - well no Mayo found ! - and the fries tasted like they were double fried frozen and hollow ! Had a pleasant and very unpleasant experience today. The back staff prepping the food weren't wearing their masks properly. Some wore it as chin diapers while others had their nose peeking out. That is against state and federal guidelines. No hair or beard nets. My food took much longer than estimated and I was stuck waiting for my food. Even though I second guessed if I even wanted to eat it. Maybe if the back staff weren't swearing and antagonizing the cashier they would have provided better service. The only good thing was the incredibly sweet cashier - she gave topnotch service, remembered peoples names and orders even over the phone, and was very considerate. My daughter and her boyfriend had date night and the River View is their favorite restaurant. But now its my favorite resturant too!!! When they went to dinner she ordered Lobster. But she suffers from a disorder similar to Parkinson's and she was super shaky during dinner. Her boyfriend has never had lobster before and therefore he had no idea how to clean it and when the waitress saw my daughter struggling while cleaning her lobster she came over took it back to the kitchen and brought it out ready to eat. A naked Lobster!!! such a nice act of kindness. It made her night----- There is customer serrvice and then there is warm hearted. The River View staff offers both. read more

We went here purely based on Yelp. This is the first time Yelp has failed me, and this was a doozy. This place is NO CULINARY GEM. Just plain, boring food. There is a lot of variety on the menu, but based on our meals there, they would do much better actually learning how to prepare a few items well rather than many items poorly. I ordered scallops, which were overcooked in a bland sauce. The only reason I finished them was because I don't like to waste food. Salad bar was fine, the various items were fresh. It is like being transported back to the Riverview Golf and Country Club in Redding, CA before they did the upgrade. Dark, dark, and more dark. Plastic rope lighting is not romantic when you can see it. Needs better lighting, I like the dark paneling. The salad/soup/bread bar is a 4/5. I really like making my own salad. The food was about average for a local place like this. I had a regular burger with fries. What can I say? My complaint is NOT food related. After I paid, I was handed back change, and then a flash, much like from a handheld camera, went off from the security camera area that is located to the upper left if facing the cashier. Now obviously, there is surveillance as anywhere else in this nation, and I am sure there could have been more covert ways of taking my photo in addition to streaming video. However, it seemed a hostile and invasive gesture, especially just to get a burger and fries. I called back and inquired about the flash, and the people working stated I needed to call back at a later point in the night for the owner. How much money can a place like this REALLY clear on any night to warranty whatever information they hope to get by taking photos of paying clients? They have a reasonable right to surveillance of their private property, I have a reasonable right to my annonymity and peace of mind without flashing (thats "random", and "motion related" according to the help). I asked several of my friends who've eaten here recently and the unanimous response was that when they've been there, they have never seen any flashing lights or evidence to suggest any image capturing hardware. I doubt people want flashing lights as they enjoy dinner with their kids, I believe it was a ploy to get a better image than grainy security cam footage. If contrary information might surface, I would be more than happy to remove this review, but I most certainly would not be providing another dime to get my candid photo taken based on whatever motivating factor might lead to that "motion detecting, random" flash purveying my image to whatever destination the management has palnned. It doesn't make it safer, you are being more hostile to paying clientelle. read more
