This bar is truly a hidden gem in New Britain. It might be in a part of town that's a little rough, but just walk past a few people hanging around outside and go inside and you'll be glad you did. The second you get through the door, it feels like a totally different world than Arch Street. The craft cocktails are unreal, the presentation is insane, and every drink feels like it was made with actual care and creativity. The staff is always welcoming, attentive, and spot-on with recommendations. I've been coming here since college and it has never disappointed. It's one of those places you bring people to when you want to impress them, and it always delivers. I highly recommend checking it out, and while you're at it, stop by their sister restaurant down the street, The Assembly Room, it's just as incredible in its own way.

Great drinks, food and service! I ordered the riot riot and then the ya Tu sabe drinks. Also shared the American sliders and truffle tater tots. I loved the atmosphere here. No TVs on or loud music bumping. The lights were dim and it set a good mood!

    Saturday night mood!

We first came to this speakeasy cocktail bar for my husband's birthday. We really liked the ambiance and drinks so we have since returned multiple times . It's a nice atmosphere to go out and have some drinks somewhere classy . Higher vibrations only lol.

Small nook area in the front that was the only spot left for a busy Friday night.

Cool new space in the middle of the central area of New Britain that is right down the street from The Assembly Room and Five Churches. Entering behind a bookcase you will walk into the speakeasy where you can hope to get a nook like we did or make a reservation for the couches or tables. The bar was completely filled with high top chairs for patrons to chat while at the bar. Ordered drinks to start our night out in New Britain. I would say that prices for food was a little overpriced for my comfort and with Mofongos and the Assembly Room nearby I would prefer to head there. Enjoyed the Good One along with the Life Free or Rye which were bourbon and Rye drinks respectively. Both were well balanced, presented nicely and got us on the right foot for the start of the night.

This was my first visit and I loved the vibe. It's trendy, low key, and mysterious! I'm an old fashioned kinda guy and I tried 2 different styles old fashions and I just couldn't go wrong. They were so tasty! The service was prompt and the bar was clean and orderly, and I wouldn't have expected anything less! Well Done staff of IKYK! I'll be back

Fun, old school atmosphere speakeasy (sshhh). Very small area handful of tables and about a dozen seats at the bar. Got a few appetizers which were okay. The drinks were great, average price is $15 per drink. Bartenders are fun and do some tricks. Only issue with the service is we got a few drinks and the server spilled a bit on the table and didn't apologize or try to remake or top of the drink which I was a little disappointed with. But overall I will return again. 4/5

We had a TIME!! This gem really left us with all smiles this past Saturday night! My friend's kept talking about the speakeasy in New Britain so hubs and I decided to give it a try. I must admit, the location wasn't the most desirable however, this space itself made up for it! You're suppose to use a passcode that you get from their Instagram story in order to open the door however, when we arrived, the door was slightly ajar, so we just walked right in. It would've been nice to use the passcode. The owners should probably look into a spring-close door to keep the cool concept going! Once we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and wonderful service! We decided to take two seats at the bar and ordered some specialty cocktails. Our favorites were the Old Fashions and the Bee's Knees - DELICIOUS! For bites, we decided to go with the Cuban Sliders and the Truffle tater tots. The Cuban sliders were some of the best Cubans we've ever had! Filled with moist pulled pork, sweet griddled ham, Swiss, fresh pickles and a mustard aïoli - YUM! You can tell the tater tots were made to order because they came out nice and hot, which we appreciated. They could however use a-lot more Truffle flavor. The jazz music gave a great vibe! We loved it! And the mirror in the ladies restroom....PERFECT selfie opt! We left out super happy and cannot wait to go back! This place is a MUST try!

Ambiance was really fun. Started to get hopping around 7:45. We made reservation online but you didn't have to. Drinks were yummy! Empanadas are a MUST! We will be back :)

Love this place, it's a modern day speak easy, you need to pull the code to get in off the IG page. Then proceed through the bookcase, recommend going early, it starts to get busy at 6. We ordered some specialty cocktails, grabbed the best seat in the house (which is usually a bar at most places) however here it's two couches and a fire! The plantain nachos were some of the most intriguing things I have had. The chips don't get soggy so they have a nice crunch! The queso Frito was good, the cheese wasn't what I thought it would be , it was still a little cold and squeaky, still good but I was hoping for a gooey cheese pull. This was a cold center and very firm. Still tasty! The olives are the star of the show, they are not just olives , they were warmed, had a little oil, herbs and lemon zest/peel. We devoured them. If it wasn't so busy we would have gotten more to home! They weee so tasty! The drinks were good, did not taste that strong, not saying they do or don't water them down or don't put a lot of booze in them but I had 4 drinks and didn't even have a buzz. That is our only complaint. Usually 3/4 and I'm good of the same caliber drink. The ambiance is a really quaint/quiet scene, lots of books, the windows covered so it's pretty dark, service was also amazing.

There should be a picture of the plantain nachos

This was a very fun place to go to looking for a speakeasy. You need a code to get into the secret passageway and the door will open. You're greeted and they give assistance with finding tables. There's a large bar where you can stand around and there are tables couchesin different seating. We were at the bar for a little while to order our drinks and then we were offered the two couches near the fireplace.. It's very dark so some of my photos did not come out as well. Music is playing. It's a cool vibe. I really enjoyed. The drink I can see Brandy now. we all had drinks and some food. I had the mushroom Cristini dish. It was delicious. There was a lot of different types of textured mushrooms with really good flavor. My only critique is that I wish there were more crust. I only received three and there was a lot more mushrooms my friend got the tater tots and they were covered with queso fresco and pico. She stated she really enjoyed it, but wasn't able to finish it. It was a lot for one person. Two friends shared the plantain nachos. They ate it all, however the plantains were store-bought chips and everything was room temperature except the shrimp was warm. They would've liked like a warm cheese sauce or something like that on there. My other friend ate the roasted cauliflower but stated it did not taste roasted but rather steamed. Overall, we had a really great time and enjoyed our drinks and the atmosphere. Would recommend to experience it..

There is something fun and nostalgic about prohibition and speakeasy's and they do a great job trying to capture that. The staff here is welcoming and proud of what they put forward. We tried a few items off the drink menu and were happy with each one including Pinocchio's Thong and Cafe Frais. Don't pass up on the kitchen either! Great small bites to enjoy with your cocktails. Try the calamari and olives for sure!

    Briar L.

The drinks were all fantastic, some creative takes on classic cocktails. The food was equally wonderful, incredibly flavorful. The most disappointing thing we ordered were the empanadas which were bland in comparison to the powerful flavors offered by everything else. Our server was very kind and charismatic, she offered up some recommendations on drinks and kindly refilled water during our stay. I will be back. This is an awesome addition to hard hittin'.

Had a great time and great drinks here! We went for a couple drinks before dinner since we had reservations close and I really loved this place. I love the whole speakeasy vibe and the 'secret' code to get in and the look of this bar. Dimly lit, upscale old bar look is one of my favorites. We went around 4:20 on a Saturday and there were a couple tables but nothing crazy. The bartender were very nice and attentive - I will be going back! I recommend the drink with the red wine float (can't remember the name - second picture) but it was amazing!

The space is vibrant, with high ceilings and comfy quilted bar stools. I got their charcuterie board which had some tasty cheeses, salami and delicious prosciutto, etc. I also got their horchata, which I never had before, and it was very tasty. This is a Mexican, rice drink flavored with cinnamon, I really enjoyed. They have fun music playing here. My next time at The Industrial, I got their Mary Y Sol and my friend got the New Brit. I really enjoyed Mary Y Sol, its a subtle sweet rum, cocktail, sweetened with pineapple and coconut. It's a very different type of sweet. I really enjoyed this one. The New Brit was also great but the Bourbon base was too strong. As much as I like their vibe and their craft here, the service is lacking. I asked for water three times, and it never came. It also wasn't particularly busy. This is a huge turn off, especially for a brand new place. This is a beautiful space, that's bringing new attention to Downtown New Britain. I wish the bartender was a bit more attentive, a little smile never killed anyone. This a new place worth checking out, but their service could use a little attention.

For the price we paid, we were definitely disappointed. The tamale was essentially all dough and barely any chicken... and the fondue that was supposed to come out with artisan bread and fresh vegetables came out with crackers and basically all broccoli. The ratio of cheese wasn't even enough for us to dip everything that it came with. The cheese itself wasn't bad, but the broccoli had some dark spots and didn't seem the freshest. We were curious about the chocolate fondue, but after not being happy with our lunch, we decided against it.

Our waitress was absolutely amazing. She was kind, attentive, and whenever something was forgotten, she immediately went to speak with the kitchen and tried to make it right. That being said, our table definitely seemed to fall into a bit of a communication dead zone. My chicken parm was forgotten, and while waiting for it the rest of my family's food got cold. They ended up sending their pasta back to be reheated, which also took a while. Our drinks were forgotten at one point as well, and our to go dessert sat waiting for a long time before anyone brought it over. The food itself was great and we still enjoyed celebrating together, but overall the experience would have been much smoother with better communication between the kitchen and staff. Drinks stayed filled, and the waiter came by to make sure we didn't want any refills on any alcoholic beverages as they were being consumed. He recommended a few appetizers for the table. We got to try the chef special, garlic bread with ricotta, and calamari. All very good. As was the bread and oil that I think comes with every meal. After I heard the specials, I went with the short rib gnocchi, but the salmon with spaghetti squash was a close second. I wasn't disappointed in my dish. It was a really good size and I ended up taking half of it back with me, something tells me it's gonna be even better the next day as most Italian food is. My one regret is that I didn't order the lemon cheesecake to go. All of the desserts sounded amazing, especially the hazelnut tart, however, the lemon cheesecake is super cute and I heard from other people that have been to this restaurant before that it is delicious. I've known about this place for a while, and a friend reminded me that they recently changed locations. We were seated in the bar area at a high table and were given two menus: a happy hour menu that lasted until 6 PM and their regular menu. We figured we'd order a few things off of their happy hour menu while it was still going on, then move on to the regular menu after 6 PM, since we knew we'd be there for at least a couple of hours. We ordered a shrimp appetizer, gnocchi, fries, wine, and a white Cosmo to start. My absolute favorite was the grilled shrimp appetizer, even though the other two were very good as well. My friend's favorite was the gnocchi. From the regular menu, I ordered the ham and cheese croquettes and she ordered the regular cheese croquettes since she is vegetarian. We loved those as well. These four tapas were enough to serve as our dinner and we didn't have to order anything else. The service was fantastic and I thought that everything was priced very well. I liked that there was a parking lot right next-door. A friend met us. Later on for a final drink and mentioned that he liked this new location better than the old location. I would definitely return and try different tapas. Their entrées also looked very good. I really like this location because you can walk around and do other things after dinner in the area.

It tasted much saltier than expected rather than sweet. I'm not sure if it was due to the cream cheese or the pistachios themselves, but the flavor felt a bit off for a dessert. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

But it wasn't their fault, I didn't realize that there were olives (in some form or another) pretty much in every single dish I ordered and I don't love olives. As in, whatever I saw, say fish or duck with something I wanted, so I just ordered it without reading the fine details of what were in the dish. So that was my fault, I am sure they would have either suggested things without olives, or told me what things the olives could've been removed from. I knew the service was good and the food was beautifully plated, I just didn't love the things we ordered that time. I saw a post on Instagram that they had a French toast with Ube sauce and I knew I needed to go! I fell in love with Ube in Seattle a couple of years ago and now anytime I see it near me, I have to go get it. I saw the post on a Saturday morning and jumped online and made a brunch reservation for 11:45 the same day! Everything we had was fantastic, rather than wanting a basic sausage or bacon to go with the French toast sticks. I ordered the Bella Bella wings as my protein to go with my Ube French toast, and they were fantastic. I also had to start with the watermelon Crudo, which was interesting, the flavors were excellent, but the texture of the watermelon did not resemble watermelon so it could throw you off if you're not at least a mildly adventurous eater. My husband had the prawn and grits and said it was fabulous and that he would order it again. I did not try it because the portion is not that big and the French toast was filling me up so I let him enjoy his own meal, and did share a couple wings with him and he agreed they were really good. The service was great again, and as simple as it sounds, I loved how when we were seated the hostess asked what kind of water we wanted, we did not have to wait for any period of time for a server to come over and ask us. The attention is in the details and that is always important. The cocktails were great, though a little pricey, which is on par for things in CT. We enjoyed them both at brunch and on our first dinner visit. We will be back, and I actually already prepaid for a dinner experience coming up with Filipino food and I'm excited for it! I have friends that went to the first one and said it was epic! So, while we usually go to brunch only if there are bottomless mimosas, this is one exception that will stay in our rotation! The restaurant is cute, intimate and clean.
