It's located in an industrial looking brick building, but when you climb the stairs to the main tap room, you'll see high ceilings and lots of cool wood. A gorgeous space. 5 Churches also has a pizza oven, although I haven't tried their food. When I visited, I ordered a 4 beer flight with an American style IPA, an Imperial IPA, a Das Froot Blueberry Pancake Sour, and a Mashacre Imperial Stout. The Blieberry Pancake as a sour was well executed and tasty. Great color, density and mouthfeel too. The other beers were accurately described and pretty good. Only one other table of customers so the place wasn't giving off the typical up-beat, energetic vibes we were hoping for like a typical brewery. The workers didn't help either - it seemed like the guy taking orders didn't want to be there. The inside is fine. The beer was solid. My fav was their peach sour. We had a pretzel and my wife said it was one of the best she's had. It was good but the beer cheese was NOT good - had to settle for the mustard. It's worth noting the area around the brewery is run down and sketchy. I was wondering if my car would still be there when we left. Compared to other breweries this one is lacking quite a bit. Beers were all pretty average and they didn't seem to be doing much creatively. I asked for a sticker and the bartender said they were about to go through a name change so no sticker I could purchase for my collection. Coolest thing about it is the inside which is upstairs and a nice big taproom. read more

Came in on a Sunday for a fundraiser. Cool place. The staff was really pleasant other than one grumpy guy... but he came around... lol The beer selection was pretty good, some variety and different types. The pizza was quite good and I'd go back for it. Industrial vibe with mostly high tops. There is an elevator but it wasn't operating that day. The only suggestions I'd have is add Bottled water, that would be nice and we were told they didn't have ice, but they serve soda so that would be nice. We will be back again. read more

Love the name, honestly I didn't know about this place, I was just looking for a place to hangout before my show. And I'm so glad I stumbled upon it... coz now I come here mainly for the beer. The taproom looks like a factory space ...very spacious, exposed brick walls, large windows.. bright. Plenty seating at the table or a bar (which is my preferred spot). They have 10-12 beers on tap ...the usuals pale ale/ lagers stouts...hard ciders etc drafts (12-16oz) $6-$8. Five oz tasters are $2-$3. Growlers are $8-$13. I usually build my own flight.. but my fav is the "not too shandy" it's such an easy drink.. esp in the summer .. just perfect. Pairs perfectly with the wood fired Pizza ... a thin crust personal pie that you can make however you like. Five Churches Brewery is located in New Britain. I'll be honest, I didn't find the area to be particularly safe, from walking from my car to the brewery. But once I stepped inside, it was a world of a difference. It was a brightly lit brewery, with five Christmas trees, behind the bar. There were families with kids, playing card games and enjoying their tasty looking pizzas! I found my friend waiting for me at the bar tops. We ordered pretty similar beers. I got Das Froot: Blackcurrant, Blueberry & Vanilla. This was a nice raspberry color, with a strong sour blueberry flavor, and it had the most pleasant vanilla scent, and aftertaste. It was pretty confusing, but a tasty confusing. My friend had a similar one with a different base, that also had a vanilla scent and aftertaste. We both really enjoyed these. The space inside is really nice, with their large, church like windows and a very old feel. This is a very nice brewery, that had some great sours, pizza and plenty of other beers for your enjoyment. read more

What a cool place! My friend took me there for a few beer. I've been to enough breweries to kind of know what to expect, but this one exceeded the expectations. It is very spacious, and we were quickly seated at a table. We got a few beers, and eventually the brick oven pizza started to look more and more appealing, so we ended up with a delicious Margherita Pizza. I had a few glasses of Amburlance, the amber ale, and it was fantastic. Service was also great. Can't wait to go back again and try more beers and food that they have to offer. read more

I came here on a Monday, just to have a couple of beers. I didn't realize it was trivia night so I ended up staying for a bit longer than expected. Spoiler alert: I didn't win. I didn't try any food but pizza seemed to be the only thing they offered. The beer list was a little disappointing since 80% of the beers listed were IPAs. Why do I hang around In this church pew or bar stool kinda town? (Jason Aldean) New Britain is blessed to have two very cool breweries and we hit both of them yesterday. 5 Churches Brewing is located roughly between - you guessed it - the steeples of five churches in downtown NB. Just be careful where you park, because some of the neighboring parking lots are off limits, and you can guess what may happen if you park there. The lots are clearly marked (look for the 5 Churches logo), and there is a pretty good parking map on the website. The taproom is big and cheery with lots of sunlight from all of the big windows across the walls of this big brick mill building that was a coat factory back in the day. You will see lots of tables and chairs, a big pizza over that cranked out some pretty darned good looking pies, and a very nice outdoor deck that was crammed with customers yesterday. They had ten beers on tap yesterday -a lot of IPAs, a few sours, a stout, a wheat beer, a lager and a fruit. We had a 16 ounce pour of their Weerder With Blackberry ($6 - 4% ABV), a 16 ounce pour of their Fruit Wheat Beer (same stats), one of their gigantic pretzels ($6 for your choice of plain, salt, or everything), and grabbed the 2 last available seats on the deck. Sitting in the sun on the first hot day of the year, drinking some wonderfully refreshing beers ( I really loved the Weerder), enjoying that awesome pretzel with mustard and beer cheese dips was a pretty nice way to spend some of our Saturday. read more

Met a former coworker here on a Friday. It was shortly after opening time and the Brewery was already busy, not bustling, with customers. On a second floor with stairs and an elevator. The Tasting Room, very nicely done with high vaulted ceiling, groovadelic lighting, plenty of tables with games, a couple seating areas off the mainstream and seats outside on a terrace. The serving bar long and well staffed, efficient too. In a corner, the pizza oven along with other food items. Nice touch. Behind the bar, a glass wall, proudly displaying the brewery, including a canning line. On this day, three canned ale were available. My friend and I opted for a Flight to sample an array. I stayed with their range of IPA's and the Bud had the same, but threw in a Sour at the end. We both agreed Five Churches had a great variety of flavor and concoctions. A ten inch pie accompanied our sampling. The pie, okay, but it did fill an empty spot. My only concern, the parking. We parked in the first lot with a Five Churches sign and soon found out they actual Brewery was down the block. Of course that was after, trying a few doors on another building with Five Churches in the glass - honest we were sober! read more

Everytime so go to Five Churches, the staff is always so helpful and friendly. Our waiter offered to bring us tasters of beers before we ordered a flight which is not something that is done at a lot of places due to Covid. They have great pizza and pretzels there that can be shared and they just require at least one person to order food at the table under the regulation. I love that they offer a flight at an affordable price so you can try more flavors. They have good beer in many categories but our favorites on this trip were the weerder with pineapple, tangerine stepple people and slim mint. read more

We tried a few different beers, and the huge soft pretzel and a buffalo chicken pizza. The food is good, and we liked almost all of the beers - only reason for 4 stars is that we were told we couldn't order flights due to staffing shortages at the time. I also was not a fan of one of the beers I tried at all (Chocolate Covered Strawberry), and couldn't finish it :( but that's a personal preference. We had to try and flag someone over to take our order, we weren't done placing the order before the bartender walked away...? Once we got our food we had to flag over a bartender to cash us out. I find that the bartenders all collectively stand at one far end of the bar speaking amongst each other so it is very hard to get their attention. This brewery appears to draw many groups, though small groups can more easily perch by a window. My friends and I snagged pretzels with beer cheese, and the bread was so warm and chewy. I couldn't decide if I liked the salt or everything pretzel more. (Each is $6.) I had to dock a star for a weird issue with guys clearly getting served before women, at least toward the left side of the counter that gets growler, food, and pours traffic. Among a guy and two women bartenders, another female patron and myself appeared invisible until I flagged someone down. And when I complained, there was no reaction from anyone. The vibe here was chill, lots of people on a Monday night which was trivia night. It was a bit loud but doable. I sat at the bar and ordered a 4 sample taster. Came with an amber, pilsner one other and my fave the raz- lime werder. Decided to go with another rasberry lime werder after. The amazing thing is this sour is gluten free. The bartender also gave me a sample taste of the cranberry vanilla werder (also gf) but the raz-lime was by far the best. Ordered a pizza with my beers, it was a chill relaxing evening. Riley's Gourmet Hot Dog and Burgers served a Five Churches Pilsner which went super well with my meal, and the brewery became an unplanned pit stop on the way home. We should have gone sooner! You should too. The delight doesn't end at the liturgical looking front entry doors. A wall of cobalt ceramic tankards is your first view at the the bar, and the sun pouring in the windows makes it a cozy place to gather, providing views of those five churches visible from the brewery. The brewery itself is a fun destination whether you sit at the bar, the refashioned bowling alley tables, or a cozy corner couch. Parking is a block away behind a neighboring building without street crossings, but pay spots are close to the entry too. Though we had no room for pizzas or the huge pretzels, the bar bites looked great, and their smells were even better. The golden beer was another light but worthy of a Jamaican beef patty and a summer sun. Pew Pew (the only onomatopoeia beer I know of) is yum yum.
