Before leaving, I enjoyed a full pour of Firefly Hollow's "Pumpkin Spice Creamer" in a cinnamon-sugar rimmed glass.

Relic Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Plainville, Connecticut in February 2012. It was…read morefounded by brewer Mark Sigman. Although his professional background was in advertising, Sigman had been an avid homebrewer since 1994. Eventually he decided to open his own brewery. Sigman chose the name "Relic" to reference his world travels. Aiming to craft artisanal ales inspired by flavors from around the world, he thought of himself as more of a chef than a brewer. Sigman doesn't brew beer based on which styles are trendy, but rather beers that he personally enjoys with tastes that he views as complimentary or exciting. I have visited Relic Brewing multiple times since I first became serious about craft beer in 2013. At that time, Relic was one of maybe 10 breweries in the state (today there are over 100). Of those original 10, only half remain in business. The taproom was very small during my initial visit: about 10 square feet and they only served small free samples. I recently stopped there with my older son because it occurred to me that I hadn't been there in at least 10 years. A lot had changed! In 2016, a full bar was added and Relic began to serve full pint pours as well as craft cocktails. A large back room addition opened in 2019, which featured a fully furnished lounge and a pinball arcade slowly evolved. When I first arrived, I ordered a taster flight which featured "Oktoberfest", "Nebraska IPA", "The Whim" (New England IPA), and "Double Whim" (Double New England IPA). I grabbed my flight and headed to the back room with my son. He was so excited to play the pinball machines and other various arcade games. The two of us had a nice father-son bonding experience playing pinball as I also enjoyed my beer samples; the "Oktoberfest" was my favorite! If you like great beer paired up with pinball, then head down to Relic Brewing!

They've since expanded the size of their tasting room into another huge, open space full of high tops and comfortable lounge seating along with a bar mixing up creative cocktails. The new space also has tons of pinball machines and other games. We stopped in after a movie on a Friday at about 6:30. There were a few groups hanging out but it wasn't too busy at all. It was pretty chill vibe, and I got the sense that a lot of locals frequent them, which is cool. We hung out for nearly two hours and by the time we left the only other folks there were at the bar in the front room. The beer is still good! I did want to try some of their cocktails though. They have some pretty creative cocktails made with interesting homemade syrups, shrubs, and the like. I tried the Honey Don't which was tart but well balanced. I wished it was a little spicier, but I am a spice fiend. Then I felt for something a little sweeter so I went with the Poolside gossip. All the different ingredients really combined into a unique and delicious flavor! I really enjoyed what they have going on. The space was comfortable and relaxed and there's something on their drinks menu for literally everyone, plus entertainment. They have small snacks available, but you're also welcome to bring your own food. So it's basically like a very relaxed bar. We'll definitely be stopping in more frequently!

"You're the prettiest, smartest captain of the team I love…read moreyou more than being seventeen In the evening sun" (The Strokes) When I saw an event notice pop up on my Facebook feed for a "Fall Sip and Shop" event with 35+ vendors at a brewery I haven't been to, well that kind of clinched it for me. But the shopping portion was cancelled because of thunderstorms the morning of the event, and has been rescheduled for September 24th from 12 to 5. Well, since we had plans to go anyway, we did go to check out the Evening Sky Brewery in nearby Burlington, CT. They have a pretty large space with 20 counter seats and four tables that each seat 6 guests. There are board games and even a few pinball machines to entertain you. They have a big glass wall where you can see the beer tanks doing their magic. Evening Sky had nine choices on draft today. They had five beers, a blueberry cider, a cider wine, and two wines on tap. The beers represented all beer styles - Wheat Beer, a Pilsner, two Porters and a Pale Ale, so right off the bat I loved the way they offer a broad spectrum of choices and weren't IPA heavy like so many breweries are. I sampled "This Wheat Is BANANAS", a banana flavored American Pale Wheat Beer that clocked in at 5.0 ABV, "COCONUTS!". an American Porter with 5.8% ABV and a nice coconut flavor, and Moonlight Pale Ale with a 5.8 ABV rating. My two clear favorites were the Banana Wheat and Coconut Porter. They were quite delicious and super drinkable. We enjoyed our visit and thought the beers and service were pretty good.

The building actually has several potential store fronts - the brewery entrance is in the middle, so don't park in front unless you want to go walk around the front. The interior has several tables and bar seating, but can get a little claustrophobic. There is outdoor seating as well for much of the year, and the occasional food truck. Otherwise you can currently bring your own food. As of December 2022, a deli is planning on going into one of the front store fronts, and they will be partnering to provide food for brewery patrons. They have three classic video games, and two single use restrooms. They do not serve cider out of respect to the cider mill up the road. I tried the Creamsickle hard seltzer. I expected it to be a little sweeter than it was, but it was very good. The bartender was very friendly and all patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves.

And she let me try one of them before I decided on a full pour of the "Hydra Chill" which is a blend of strawberry, raspberry, vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. It took a little adjusting to, I think it was the chocolate taste, but ultimately I have to say it was delicious. Just don't think of it as your traditional beer. It was founded by brothers Michael and David Ieronimo and their partners Christopher Urban and Kyle Ondrush. The two brothers started out as homebrewers in their mother's kitchen in the late 1980s. By 2004, David's brother-in-law Christopher and Michael's co-worker Kyle had also come into the fold. The four formed a homebrew club and brewed together out of a garage. The homebrew club evolved into a homebrewing obsession and the next logical step was starting their own brewery. They chose the name "Brass Works" as a reference to "The Brass City": the official nickname of the city of Waterbury. Kyle retired from the brewery in 2021, but the other three partners still continue to share their passion for good beer. I first visited Brass Works in June 2016. I was driving around the state visiting some breweries that were new to me. The interior of the taproom was really nice; lots of neat decorations. During my stay, I ordered a sampler flight of five beers which included: "Wee Windy English Bitter Ale", "Sweaty Sisters Blonde Ale", "Abel Porter", "Uncle Zac's Stout", and "Double Bird IPA". The latter was my favorite of the bunch; great notes of Amarillo hops! I ended up purchasing a growler of that one to bring home. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

Fantastic. Over the top. I ordered the Poutine. The fries were perfectly crispy, the queso was rich and flavorful, and the egg on my dish was absolute perfection.
