As our first visit to Strange Brew Pub we came to see a Beastie Boys cover band. Having never seen this band, nor been to this location we were not sure what to expect. The hubby read some of the other Yelper's comments and knew to go upstairs, really glad others mentioned that! The space is just big enough that you don't feel like it's tiny but just small enough to feel like you're right in the action. The bar tenders were friendly, they had lots of beer selections (not all on tap, many canned options) and the band turned out to be absolutely fabulous! Following Strange Brew on Facebook is a great way to find out about all their different shows (bands, trivia, comedy, etc) and I don't know why we waited so long to get there! May stop by again when it is warmer. Unfortunately, there is no sign on the door downstairs, at street level, to ask new patrons to go up the stairs, especially on a dark rainy night. A great thing is their response to Facebook requests for information. But, It was cold outside and when we came in, upstairs, it was cold inside too. So we decided to leave and find a place that was a bit warmer. Nite that there was plenty of seating and it looked like a nice venue. ***** Facebook response for parking. Thank you for your inquiry. There are a few options for parking including on street parking on both sides of the road. Our building is located on the right side of the road (Water Street is a one way road). There are also three parking garages across the street. Each are available for parking, two of them have signage that says otherwise but it does not apply to our business hours, 6pm till closed. There are a few other parking garages located in downtown within walking distance including Main Street parking garage. There is also parking available in the lot at the marina, about a two minute walk from us on the road running parallel with our road. We looooooove it here! I literally look forward to the Tuesday night open mic nights now - it's becoming a weekly highlight for me! My boyfriend loves to perform here, and the folks that put together the live music are great - they really seem to encourage performers of all stripes to come out and play. Pro tip - get here EARLY if you want to do open mic.. they put out the list around 8:15pm for a 9:00pm start time; and if you snooze, you'll be waiting until after 10 to go on. Not a huge problem, of course, since there's plenty of great drinks and great company, but Tuesday is technically a school night, so just remember that if you gotta get up early the next day! Strange Brew is located in an old distillery that dates back to the mid-1700s. I love how they've maintained the antiquated charm of the historic building, but then built this quirky, inviting pub around it. It feels like you're in Eddie Munson from Stranger Things' attic circa 1995. Sounds weird, but it works. The drink list is extensive, with an ever-rotating carousel of offerings from both local and larger purveyors. I usually just go for a hard cider or a Twisted Tea (#Basic), but I had a fantastic apple cider // rum cocktail the last time we went, and it was delish! Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about their cavalcade of selections, and more than happy to recommend a few items to curious drinkers. They do not have a kitchen, but offer a small selection of packaged snacks. I enjoyed the Thai Chili Cashews while we were waiting for a delivery order from nearby La Stella Pizza, which Strange Brew has a partnership with. They offer the full menu for delivery, and you can kick back on a couch or beanbag chair with some of the best pizza I have had in recent memory. Yum! We also got takeout from Harp & Dragon, an Irish pub down the street, and the Shepard's Pie was LIFE CHANGING. I would recommend checking out some of the small restaurants on this block and planning takeout while you hang out and watch the live music show. Literally, is it Tuesday yet? This weekend I went with some friends to see some live music at Strange Brew Pub in Norwich! This is such a fun place, if I lived closer I would go here all the time. Strange Brew Pub was originally a distillery in 1741, after that it served a multitude of businesses, and as of 2017 it's been a music venue and a bar. What a strong living place this is! They don't brew their own beers, but they have over 100 available. This place has so much character! Just by walking close to it, you'll notice the beautiful peacock painting on the stairs next to this place. Upstairs, the walls are covered in records. It almost looks like a big barn. It's all natural wood everywhere. Here you'll find some beautiful artwork. Maybe a local high school's students work. You can play darts and pool, and of course enjoy live music. I had a very delicious beer, that I've never heard of before. It's called Complimentary Colors, and it's a delicious blueberry sour beer. They don't make their own food here, but you can order from nearby places, or bring your own food. This a pretty small place, when the full band plays the floors are shaking and for a minute I thought the we'd all crash through the floor. But this almost 300 year old building is truly handling it all! I really love Strange Brew Pub, if you're in the area I encourage you to stop at this historic place and check out the beautiful and unique artwork, throw some darts, or enjoy a beer you've never had before. read more

We went to the Johnny Cash tribute night and it was so much fun! The staff was great and so was the beer selection. The crowd was very diverse and it seemed like everyone was having a great time, singing and dancing. We will be back! read more

Nice crowd, nice employees. Good selection of drinks. Pretty good sound system and live shows. There's a limited selection of food, but you might actually enjoy it. There's a lot of local artists' work, and for sale, all over the walls. There's a pool table room, a fireplace lounge section, and room to dance. Lots of care put into the establishment, and the crowd of people is very close and friendly. read more

This place is an amazing bar and music venue. They get a wide variety of musical acts most nights of the week along with interesting trivia nights, etc. I recently saw a dueling piano night that was amazing. They have a great craft beer selection, special cocktails, great staff, reasonable prices, and a comfortable interior. They even have a separate game room and lounge area. read more

The name offers insite in what to expect with the atmosphere but what a surprise. Our neighbors invited us out for drinks and as soon as we arrived we decided that if we didn't like it we were going to disown our dear friends. By the end of the evening, we were picking another night to come out Insanely good happy hour events almost every night. The weekends offer entertainment from all genres. Bring an empty stomach Pizza, Rangoon, macaroni puffs, buffalo wings, nachos, and Cajun fries. The puffs are fully stuffed with deliciousness and cooked perfectly. Flaky outside, super soft inside. They should change the name to the Glade Plug-in Pub (sounds terrible because it is). You'd never know they sell food, because all you can smell is sickening, nose- and lung-pummeling chemicals. Are they trying to cover something up? The smell of dead bodies? Maybe make more by polluting patrons to death? It looks pretty cool inside, the pool room's a good size, the little lounge area's cute, and our bartender was very nice, but Strange Brew has the worst air quality of any bar/club I've ever visited, and I've been to hundreds around the country. You may want to avoid if you don't want to be choked by air freshener all night, starting the second you walk in the door. You won't be able to smell your food, your date's perfume, your own perfume, sexy pheromones, or really anything but overwhelming air "freshener" fumes. I feel bad for the people who work there and for the bands who have to try to perform, let along sing (horrors), in this place. There might be some fun at Strange Brew, but I can assure you, there is no oxygen. So, breathing? LOL, good luck. If you have respiratory problems, asthma or allergies, take a hard pass. If you don't care or don't have a sense of smell, at least apologize to your lungs, hormones, and nervous system afterward. And anyone who will have to be near you until you can get the stench off. I will do my best to never set foot in the place again. I bonded with one woman who said she'd have to leave her clothes outside for a week (she's not going back either). The friend I brought with me was completely congested by the time we got home, I had a headache, and we both sounded like someone took sandpaper to our vocal chords. As an aside, I don't think $10-12 drinks are that cheap, so maybe other reviewers are talking about beer? Anyway, when you leave Strange Brew, you not only won't smell anything like yourself, you will also be unable to smell anything for a while. This bar, ironically, is where olfaction goes to die. Some people just don't get that there's nothing "fresh" about air with no air in it. P.S. DEFINITELY do not go to Strange Brew if you are pregnant. For multiple reasons. Yikes. read more

We had an amazing dinner and evening at Strange Brew! The flat bread pizza and broccoli cheddar puffs were delicious, there was a wide selection of amazing beers, and there was awesome live music! This is a place with a great vibe and feeling to it. read more

This place has got cool atmosphere and sometimes good live music (other times really crappy ones) The beer selection is wide and there is a cozy couch nook but the mixed drinks my wife had on more than one visit (she's not a beer drinker) were horribly made (don't think the bartender has a clue how to make a good mixed drink) and were crazy expensive. Good for a brew or two with the guys occasionally but not an over all place I would go too often to. read more
