Excellent place for a quiet dinner with all around GREAT food, service and ambiance! We tried the crab bombs, hummus appetizer which was SO tasty with crispy home made pita chips and tons of fresh veggies. Two from our party had hot lobster rolls which were epic and we also enjoyed a Caesar salad, a Sellfish special salad with grilled salmon and wonderful cocktails including a special spicy tamarind margarita. The place is so cute right on the water- in the spring and summer they will have their patio overlooking the water open. Definitely give this place a try! We went to Sellfish after walking out of a pub in Groton. We found this place via Yelp and are so glad we did. They had a wonderful set up outside and in Mid-October, it was the perfect atmosphere and temperature. They had a tent with heat lamps. The tables were spaced out nicely and the servers and owner was exceptionally friendly and pleasant. During out meal, the owner came out and talked to each table. There were regulars at a couple tables, and it was nice to see the wonderful rapport the owner had with them. You could tell the passion he has for his restaurant and guests. He also didn't ignore the tables he didn't know and approached them and us to start a conversation. As you can tell, I greatly appreciated this gesture. This made it into a five star experience. I had the shrimp and chips and my mom had the clam strips and chips. Both also came with cole slaw. The food was very good and you could tell the seafood was fresh. It was a really great meal. The restaurant is right on the water. We were there a little later at night and it was dark, so we couldn't really see that much, but from what we could see, it made for good conversation. We liked to look at the lights coming from the water. Check this place out. You will not be disappointed. We took a drive to the shore to getaway for the afternoon and get a bite to eat. Because of the reviews for Sellfish, we landed there. I'm very glad we did. We had the most delightful time. We were hosted by Debbie, who was absolutely wonderful. We started with the Crab Bomb appetizer. It's a round ball shaped crab cake, deep fried. The crust is light, the bomb is loaded with crab, light on the breaded stuffing. Served with a lightly spiced aioli. Wonderful. Best crab cake type appetizer Ive ever had. My husband had the seafood platter and I had the fish snd chips. Both were excellent. Nicely breaded (light), deep fried, not greasy. The chef's tartar sauce was different with a bit of dill. Nice little find on the water in New London. Took a ride to check out Ocean Beach in New London and wanted to get a drink and bite to eat by the water. While driving back saw this quaint little place on the water with small outdoor patio overlooking the water. I sat at the small 4 seat bar on the patio that has about 12 tables on the patio. The place is a quaint and cute inside. I had shrimp cocktail which were good size and very good. The other food I saw looked good. My server Debbie was very nice, friendly, welcoming and gave great service. Would definitely stop back again now that I know it's here and work in the area. read more

Please save your money and TIME. Waitstaff and manager barely acknowledge your presence. Not only that, the waitress raises her voice to correct you or question you. In addition, she snaps the menu from in front of you before you can even say thank you. She seemingly would make the dishes clank together when picking them up from the table, as if annoyed. Parts of the order were completely forgotten and never remembered. No worries, maybe a bad day. However, after we placed a simple order for fish and chips it was 1.5 hours before "half" of it came out. When we finally asked why everyone else was served and had left and we still had no food, the waitress again raised her voice in defensiveness.."what do you want me to do?" was all she said. When asked what WAS ready after 1.5 hrs she admitted only "parts" of it were done and it would be 10 more additional minutes. During the last 35 minutes we wanted to leave without the food and pay for the appetizers that were less than appealing. However, the food came out. The chicken must of been fried in the old oil or fish oil, because the chicken smelled like fish. Once the food came, she hovered like a hawk anxious to drop the check, and we were beyond ready to leave. Thinking it could not get any worse, they "accidentally" charged 1 dish, 3 times on the bill! When brought to their attention, no apology, just remarks to themselves "Oh, it is still doing that!". The manager tried to hide herself by wearing sunglasses in doors the entire time after she saw our frustration and said loudly to someone "everyone expects special treatment". We really didn't. We just wanted to be treated without passive aggressive overt aggression, AKA basic respect. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We were not rude and we were beyond patient, but it was very clear they had no interest in us or our service, But had no problem taking our money and trying to get more of it by accidental extra charges. This has to be the best seafood in New London! Everything I order is absolutely delicious and huge portions. Ozzie, the owner has the best customer service skills I have ever come across. He is always friendly, makes sure you are happy with your meal and very upbeat! When it was pouring rain one night, it appeared the restaurant was closed( outside dining only), but he was gracious enough to open the patio and serve us a delicious meal. New restaurant on Pequot Ave opened yesterday, July 14, 2018 just in time for Sailfest. Today was the first day they served breakfast. Coffee is on the house with purchase of food. This is a new breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant with small but quaint indoor seating (booths and tables) and an outside deck overlooking the Thames Marina. Parking will be limited after the other two businesses open for lunch and dinner (plenty of parking up the hill!) but we found a spot in front of Sellfish this lovely Sunday morning. At 9:45am there was no wait for seating. The menu is not overwhelming. Standard breakfast fare of omelettes and pancakes with a couple of unique dishes: The Dockside Omelet...fresh shrimp, asparagus, scallions and cheddar and The Sellfish Benedict with crab cakes, spinach or tomato, hollandaise and creole spice are unique. Steve asked for the Sellfish Benedict but they were already out of crab. Also, today the hollandaise was packaged and not homemade. I ordered the 2 eggs any style with bacon. The order comes with hash browns, fruit and toast. Since there is no gluten free toast, I opted out but I did ask about the fruit which would have been strawberries and an orange slice. The plate was served without fruit. Bacon was not crispy (as I prefer it) but of good quality! Scrambled eggs were perfect. Hash browns were red potatoes, tasty but a bit oily. Overall a quality breakfast and a perfect portion size. Steve ended up with the Denver Omelet that he found to be fresh, well cooked, generously stuffed and a good portion size. Home fries were very good. Rye toast arrived later (no fruit) but totally understandable as staff is learning the lay of the land on only the second day. Plus...omg...going in and out the tricky side door is a little much to ask of staff who have not been given trays yet! That is a lot of added work for them!! PLEASE GIVE THEM TRAYS! Maybe create a pass-through with one of the windows and hey, let them bring the coffee pot around rather than pick up each mug, bring it into the restaurant, fill it and then guess who had which mug. That is on the manager, not the waitstaff. We were not impressed by the "fancy chrome finished" plastic ware. We hope they are recycling it and will offer silverware in the future. Overall a good experience. Free coffee, reasonably priced and well cooked breakfast, friendly service, outside service. Very promising! We hope to return so Steve can try the Sellfish Benedict! (BTW... we overheard a rumor that they are about to get their liquor license. Bloody Mary's???) read more

Visiting New London for work and visited Sellfish. Very charming spot on the water with a seaside vibe outside and a chic cafe atmosphere inside. The young lady at the counter was welcoming and personable and we chatted about her college plans while I waited for my takeout breakfast sandwich. When I got home I was NOT DISAPPOINTED. Fresh perfectly cooked eggs, over-medium, gooey American cheese (you can have your choice), and slightly spiced breakfast sausage links, on a fluffy roll. Came here while on vacation from Texas with my family and thoroughly enjoyed this place. The portions are generous and the food was great. The fish and chips had big chunks of cod. Finally the app (home made hummus with pine nuts) arrived just several minutes before the entrees... it was worth the wait. My fish & chips rivaled what I have had at 'chippies' in England.
