We stopped into Emery to have cocktails before we went down the street for dinner. It was her first time in there and everyone in there was so friendly it was a very pleasant stop. Our waitress was really great and we perused the dinner menu while we were there and will likely be making another trip back to try the food. I ordered the Clyborne's Peach Old Fashioned. This was Cooper's craft bourbon infused with a ginger peach tea, fresh ginger syrup, peach puree, and a Luxardo cherry. It was a tasty little cocktail. My friend had the Lemon Meringue cocktail and loved it. It was Caravelle Limincello, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and heavy cream. A quaint walk up restaurant with outstanding service and food quality. The host opened the door upon arrival and immediately seated in a shaded patio spot with wonderful views of Mariemont and surrounding neighborhood. I had the crab crusted walleye which was beautifully prepared and succinctly seasoned. The pesto was not overpowering and provided a nice balance to the broccolini. Emery is in the heart of picturesque Mariemont which makes it perfect for date night. Great decoration and ambience. You can peek inside the kitchen through a glass window and they have a bar for walk ins. Our server was fantastic with her food descriptions and recommendations. She always kept the wine flowing and water glass full. I was a bit underwhelmed with the food. It was decent but I was hoping it would be better. We started with the whipped feta appetizer which was good and very unique. It has a thin consistency with multiple flavor profiles: a bit of sweet from the fig jam, then some spice and nuttiness. Kind of confusing but worked. My wife had the braised short rib and enjoyed it but was not blown away. I had the scallops and pork belly which was decent but seemed very confused. So many different flavor profiles that are all good individually but didn't quite make a cohesive dish. Eaten together and it made for a very confusing bite, like the feta app but less successful. Emery is doing a lot of things right but there's room for refinement. It is worth a go if you're curious. read more

Our dining experience at Emery was fantastic. The restaurant was nice and quiet when we went, and much more elegant than pictures portray. We were sat in a large booth in the upstairs dining area with romantic lighting. I also noticed while I was there that another table had been set with a flower bouquet and a card, so it appears that you can make such requests on your reservation for special occasions. When greeted, they asked if we had any food allergies or dietary restrictions, when I responded that I had a gluten allergy they were incredibly supportive, over 90% of their menu is already gluten free. They even sent out a manager for a table touch, without prompting, to answer any questions and assure us that I would be safe eating there. We went for a belated Valentines dinner on Feb 15 and our reservation was at 5:30, so we were started off with happy hour drinks. I had an Elderflower and Pear while my boyfriend started with a MadTree Amber Ale. To start we had the lump crab cake. When our server mention it was just a single crab cake I was disappointed, until it came out. It was definitely large enough to share and served with greens. Being gluten free, I have not been able to have a crab cake since making the dietary change and I am so glad this is the one I was able to have! I haven't had a crab cake this good since I had fresh caught crab cake in Alaska! Amazing! We both had the braised short rib for dinner, served with broccolini and whipped potatoes. It had a red wine Demi-glaze that I was unsure about until I tasted it. I am not a red wine person typically, even in cooking, but I could not get enough of the Demi glaze. When they say the short rib is fork tender they mean it! It was topped with crispy fried onions and the whipped potatoes and broccolini made for a great pairing. I had a lemon meringue drink with dinner and was thoroughly impressed, they couldn't have described the drink better. It tasted just like lemon meringue pie and was a nice, light drink to finish off the meal with. The serving portion of the entree was large enough that I could not finish it, so our server boxed it up for me to take home. For dessert we also took home the gluten free donut holes. You would not be able to tell they were gluten free. I snuck a couple in before we left and while they were still warm, and I was in heaven. Overall, between service, food, and ambience, I would highly recommend Emery for a lovely, high end, dining experience. A really nice dining experience. I went a little early and parking was open, but I can see it being an issue on weekends. Service was relaxed, attentive and not too pushy. I think my server was a little on the new side so their experience with the menu wasn't as great as a person who had been there a long time. Most of the staff is you and it brings a good energy to the place. I sat upstairs and it had a lot of natural light and was just a really pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal. I started with the Crispy Pork Belly Buns and they are a must try. So much flavor and the buns had a nice crunch to them while still being soft on the inside. My main course was the Chicken Breast Roulade and it also had good flavor. The chicken breast itself was unremarkable but the sauce it came in and the skin made for a very flavorful meal and it was a great size that left me not overly full. I would go back! read more

I was torn about writing this review. The restaurant is gorgeous inside, 5 stars. The service and kindness , 5 stars. The drinks were 5 star delicious. The food is where I was torn. I had the fish and it was luke warm plus I found a few bones in it. I ate it because I didn't want to cause a hassle because everyone was exceptionally kind. This is my go to place in quaint and charming Mariemont. Sometimes you're just not in the mood to trek down to OTR or downtown but want something really good. We keep coming back and never disappointed. For an inland city it is often challenging to find a restaurant with a good selection of fish and done really well. My go tos are the halibut and Ruby red trout. This past weekend I had their steak and shrimp which was also quite good. Their whipped feta is always a great way to start. All of their salads are delicious. Another good starter is their clam chowder which has that awesome crisped pork belly. Their cocktails are delicious. My husband tends to go for Old Fashioneds. Their peach spin on it is good and he normally doesn't care for twists on the classic Old Fashioned. End the meal with either their donut holes (like Sotto with dipping sauces) or the Chocolate Genoise. read more

I wanted to love Emery, and there were several things I did fall in love with. For starters, the vibe feels like it was made for special occasions, which it was as we were celebrating Mother's Day and we got a window seat over looking Mariemont Square. Second the menu accommodates gluten free diners, which is why I was there! We started with whipped feta and I got guten free bread to accompany it. It was divine! There was also a nice selection of fish entrees, which I also appreciated. However, I was assured, twice by management and cooking staff that there would be no issue with cross contamination as my daughter is allergic to fish but she still had an allergic reaction..I had to leave to get medication in the middle of dinner. Our dinner partners have been 3 times already and have raved about most things they've eaten in the past. Some standouts for us this time were the beet and mushroom tartare, the whipped feta, the lobster and shrimp pot pie and the twin filets with shrimp scampi! Actually our server, Alex, was epic! Wow! We have eaten everywhere this chef (Mark Bodenstein) has opened a restaurant, and this one may be the best yet. (Although, I did love Nuvo.) The space is beautiful and HUGE. Seriously, there is a ground floor with indoor seating, a bar area, and an outdoor patio. But just wait, upstairs are another two rooms of dining and another bar space! Plenty of room for any kind of experience that you are looking for. I had the lobster, shrimp, crab roll BLT and it was out of this world. I'm already plotting when I can go back for another one. Our dinner here yesterday evening left us unimpressed. We thought the place looked nice and had a good atmosphere but the food could've been better. To start, when we were sat at our table, I found bread crumbs on my appetizer plate in my place setting. When I went to move the plate I stuck my hand in butter I didn't see on the dirty plate. I put it to the side and left it. We ordered cocktails - my husband ordered a beer and I ordered a Manhattan. It was taking awhile and then we could hear a shaker of ice being vigorously shaken. I could see the bartender from where I was sitting and said to my husband, "I think that bartender just shook my Manhattan instead of stirring it. I hope it tastes right if they don't even know how to properly make one." Sure enough it came to the table right after we heard that shaking and it was cloudy. The luxardo syrup and bitters must have been put in the bottom the glass, instead of the being mixed in, because it was stuck to the bottom of glass and took a bit of work from me to blend it before drinking it. Despite that the drink tasted really good! We ordered the Hamachi Crudo for an appetizer. It was good but it's very, very tiny for the price. We ordered another round of drinks when we ordered our entrees. My husband ordered the Crab Crusted Walleye and I ordered the Blackened Ruby Red Trout. After hearing another round of vigorous shaking our drinks came to the table. Same cloudy drink look and bitters & syrup stuck to the bottom of the glass. My husband's fish was delicious! My trout was overcooked and dry. The smoked fish raviolis were undercooked and tough. And the smoked fish tasted overwhelmingly of artificial smoked flavoring. So much so that it was indiscernible what type of meat was in the ravioli and the flavor was off-putting. The service was ok. Not particularly bad - just not great. Highly recommend Emery. Generous portion size and very fresh ingredients. I ordered the burrata, and can confirm that the burrata they serve here is fresh and juicy! I loved the combination of fava beans and strawberry too, definitely very refreshing - just in time for spring time! I ended up ordering the mussels pot (appetizer) as my entree instead of ordering an entree because I was pretty full after eating the burrata by myself, lol. The mussels pot was HUGE in portion, could not tell that it was an "appetizer". It comes with 4 grilled toasts (which is also very generous!). Some places only give you 2 or they charge you for a bread basket. The mussels were fresh and the "sauce"/ "juice" was very flavorful. It had a hint of acidity to it which I love. The overall balance was quite well - not on flavor overpowers to other. Salt usage was managed well as well. We also ordered a side of French fries to share and the fries were good! Never heard of Emery. My Mr mentioned it and wanted to take me here for Valentines Day. I browsed the menu online and was pretty impressed with the selections. Especially the entree section. He made online reservations for 5:30 pm on a Friday. I'm glad we did because it was packed around that time. The hostess was super friendly (no wait) guided us to our seats upstairs. The restaurant and staff makes sure they follow the 6 foot rule. There are clear borders between seating. Which are spaced out. Very clean and keeps sanitizers available. I really love the decor, furniture and lighting. Very classy and sets a great mood. They have a great selection of drinks. Especially wines and bourbons. We started off with a bottle of Resplendent Pinot Noir. Very smooth and paired well with our meals. There were three entrees I was eyeballing. They all looked good that I had to ask our server Emma which was the best and details on the meals. She was very patient and helpful. Of course we had to start off with an appetizer -Beet & Mushroom Tartare: Lemon aioli, horseradish, housemade potatoe chips. Never heard of tartare made out of veggies, however they pulled it off and it was incredible. Everything went well together. I could've ate more. For dinner we ordered: -Blackened Ruby Trout: soubise, brown butter crumble, fresh lemon curd, butternut squash, and smoke trout ravioli. -Crab Crusted Lake Erie Walleye: broccolini, citrus beurre blanc, lemon parsley pistou. The trout was for me and the Walleye was for my Mr. When it came out, I was amazed by the presentation. The butternut squash went well with the fish and sauce. Not too overwhelming. I was in love with the stuffed trout dumpling. I've never had anything like this before. Very unique pairing. I didn't get to try my Mr.'s meal but he was raving how good it was and that the ingredients, pairing of the broccolini and sauce was on point. I'm just gonna start this review by saying that if I could give Emery SIX stars, I definitely would, because I thought it was THAT good. I remember reading about the place long before it opened and knew it'd be a great addition to Mariemont. And after checking out their menu a few weeks ago, it seemed like a great spot to take my lady for Valentines Day. Was I right? Absolutely! I made reservations on their web site for 5:30pm on Friday. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a VERY friendly hostess, and we were seated right away with no wait at all. The place itself is very nice with lots of spaced seating. They definitely adhere to social distancing and make sure everyone is safe. Their menu isn't huge, but is packed with great options for starters, salads, entrees, and desserts. As for drinks, their menu is great for beer, wine, and spirits alike. Our server, Emma, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She took the time to answer all of our questions. My lady and I started with a bottle of Resplendent pinot noir and the beet & mushroom tartare. The tartare was AMAZING! The combination of flavors was just perfect and all fit together. It also paired very well with the wine. For dinner, my lady had the blackened ruby trout, and I had the crab crusted Lake Erie walleye (though so many other entrees looked great too, so it was a tough decision). Both of our dishes were delicious beyond description! All the ingredients to both fit so perfectly together like a beautiful culinary puzzle. The chefs here REALLY know their stuff! The service here is great. Our server was super kind and really made an effort to go above and beyond for everything. I feel like the server really try to connect with the table and it was really nice and made sure to be thorough when dealing with food, allergies/restrictions at the table. The food was amazing. I got the scallops and they came with pork belly and some veggies. They were a 10 out of 10. Everybody else in the group seem to be happy with their food as well. This restaurant is amazing. While Boca has long been my Cincinnati favorite, Emery gives it a run for the money. The design is beautiful - an eclectic mix of styles and moods pulled together elegantly with color and texture. The wood tables are gorgeous, and they've made the plexiglass social distancing panels feel like part of the natural decor. The seats at the bar on the main floor are a little scary, with still too many people moving past you, but the tables feel totally safe. The staff is charming, attentive, and efficient - they have invested in good, experienced talent. When I asked where the restrooms were, our server Alex offered to show me to them. And then the food. Oh. wow. I started with the house salad, which. is. amazing. My main course was the seared scallops with brussel sprouts, which I loved so much I will have to order several more times in a row, I think. My husband had the steak with Potatoes Aligot, which was also amazing (he let me steal potatoes from his plate, wonderful man). Dessert - the doughnut holes. Oh. my. God. The doughnut holes. Oh my God. Get at least two orders. Otherwise fights might break out. I had the cheesecake - which, while the cheesecake itself was delicious and divine, I didn't care for the orange sauce with pulp. My mom and I dined at Emery on opening night for our holiday celebration and had an overall great experience. I was excited when the restaurant was announced, as a big seafood lover and a fan of Looking Glass' other restaurants. They had staggered arrivals for tables so that people were not clustering in the entryway, and that we were escorted to our seats as only our party. The tables had custom made dividers between them (cloths racks on wheels with plastic sheets), and they also used the layout of the restaurant (double doors and booths for dining) well to create space. Overall, the look and ambiance of the restaurant was great, sharp decor, and a great view from multiple tables with large windows. My mom started with a cocktail she wanted to try, Elderberry and Pear, and we ordered a pair of appetizers, and I got a salad, while deciding on our entree. The waitress recommended a few things, but honestly everything sounded great and it was tough to decide. Ended up going with the ruby red trout and the sea scallops. Appetizers came out quickly, along with the cocktail. The cocktail was very sweet, but that wasn't a negative. Our appetizers, braised short rib, and whipped feta, both looked spectacular, and the waitress (Holly) brought us separate plates so we could try each without mixing the flavors. That was key because they were very different. The short rib raviolis were rich and heavy, with the sauce and richness of the meat coming through strongly. Cutting through that richness, some, was a well made ravioli dough adding a toothiness to each bite. Splitting that plate as two each was a must. Meanwhile the whipped feta was much more nuanced and balanced, with tart citrus, sweet figs, creamy feta, and small bursts of heat from sliced cherry peppers. Paired with perfectly grilled Sixteen Bricks bread it was probably one of the best dishes I've had in this city. My mom called it the best thing she ate in 2020, and it's definitely on my short list. My salad came in between, and the house salad was a big one, with lots of toppings. I very much appreciate this, because the toppings were also tasty and made for a very satisfactory plate. I wasn't a big fan of the house sweet and sour vinaigrette, which tasted heavy, and I'd have preferred some pepper with it. Entrees came out after a bit of a delay, I think our conversation and the salad course threw the timing off a bit, but I also never felt rushed or uncomfortable, so I give credit to the waitress there. My mom's scallop dish looked great, and the scallops were large and expertly cooked. Unfortunately the scallop plate was also composed of large chunky objects (mushrooms, halved Brussel sprouts, and scallops) that made it hard to get a composed bite, even after working them over with a fork and knife. Every individual part tasted good, and the basalmic reduction added a needed tart acidity, but it was more like three separate things placed together. My own entree, the trout, came out with another perfect cook - the kitchen definitely shows experience and care with seafood, and an indulgent brown butter sauce. Again, it looked beautiful, plating was top notch. But again, there was a large miss on the plate - the smoked trout raviolis showed none of the nuance of the rest of the dish. Instead they tasted like bombs of salt, overpowering the same ravioli dough that paired well with the short rib, blowing through even the brown butter sauce. I don't dislike the taste of smoked trout, and part of me wonders what I expected from a smoked trout ravioli... but I guess I just thought it would taste better? Again, every other thing on that plate was incredible, and it was a very large serving of fish, but I'm wondering who thought the trout ravioli was a positive contribution. As a whole, service was great, food was delicious aside from one or hiccup and a slight misstep. I'd say 4.5 from those, but a solid round up because they did such a great job with COVID concerns, execution, and seriously that whipped feta... I'm excited to go back, and fully plan to soon! read more

our experience was for sure a mix. we had a great server rich, but the service itself for instance took way too long for a standard off the menu drink. we ordered based off of servers recommendations and were quite let down. the short rib ravioli as an appetizer was more of dumpling than ravioli which didn't help that edamame surrounded the "ravioli". we then ordered the short rib entree and the scallops and pork belly to split for two and again were a little disappointed. the short rib was advertised as "fall off the bone" and I can assure it was not, that steak knife was for sure in use. Then the pork belly and scallops were okay but nothing remarkable like it was told about. However i can say that the flavor profiles were there but all the rest wasn't. Now to talk about the ambiance inside look magnificent but it was nice outside so we wanted to sit out there, we then completely let down by the outside not even being a close comparison to the inside. We came here late at night to have a couple of drinks and some light food. We were greeted promptly and we waited a few minutes for an outside table. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were very good. They have a pretty extensive bourbon choices at very fair pricing. The service was very good and attentive. The bartender actually brought us our drinks and they seem to work well as a team, The calamari was excellent with 2 different dipping sauces and the buratta was a nice size serving size. The accompanying tomatoes and melon were fresh and very tasty. We then split a salad which they served in 2 plates which was a nice added touch and the crab cake which was really good. All in all a very good experience and if you have a gluten allergy they have many options and labeled very clear on the menu. We will return and do a whole dinner service! read more
