The german pancake is an experience. Just try it once. There are no words to describe it. Service is wonderful and food was good. I think my comparison would be a wonderful greasy spoon. An extremely rare occasion of my being awake and hungry on a Saturday Morning at 6:30 a.m. I needed breakfast that somebody else prepared. I've been terribly sick and eating has been a challenge, so since I was finally hungry, I forced myself to go out into the cold rain to get what I assumed from past experience would be a good breakfast. I like the atmosphere here as it is warm, not overly lit and low on clanking dish and loud patrons racket so I was happy to be there. Service was prompt, friendly, professional and I tipped accordingly. However the food was seriously phoned in. The omelet was kind of semi-warm , rubbery and tasteless except for the salsa on top. Hash browns were decidedly beige, coldish and tasteless as was the biscuit. I loved the tomato juice. Coffee was OK not great. I pushed the food around, sighed, drank my juice and called it quits. There were very few people in the restaurant at that hour and the kitchen could have made a much better effort. I always think that Goldie's is over priced and overrated and it is, although people still think it's the gold standard. I'm sticking with the good old greasy spoon, The Capri down on Main in the car/warehouse district; Orange Naugahyde, lots of noise but hot, fresh and predictably good, if not fancy. Being from New Jersey, I know a good Diner. No more Elmer's for me. $20 wasted but again, the server deserved her tip. Now that I think about it, everything tasted pre-fab, frozen and dumped out over heat or worse, microwaved. I tasted no browning, crunch or fry effect. I actually was pleasantly ALL the way surprised by Elmer's. I really enjoyed my breakfast. I had the country biscuit hash (I've forgotten the name but that should help) it was super delicious. My BF had the crab Benedict and was very satisfied. It even just looked and smelled so good. My only complaint which doesn't take away from food or service was that it was pretty cold in the restaurant. I know it's AC season in June but I wish I brought a sweater. I tried eating so fast so I could get outside again to warm up. We went around 2:30pm on a Sunday so it was perfect and not too busy. I'm definitely going back to try more things on menu! read more

Walked from my hotel to Elmer's for late breakfast. Warm and inviting like going to a relative's house. Even a fireplace at one end. Service was spot on, and coffee arrived in seconds. I had the potato pancakes and eggs over medium, comes with bacon. Everything was cooked well and delicious. The bacon and eggs were exceptional. The coffee was just okay, which I expected at a family style place. And the potato pancakes tasted good, but could have been cooked just a bit longer as they were just a little mushy in the center. Still, a nice touch was the chopped green onion in the cakes. Made them tasty. read more

The last time my family and I went there they were not that busy when we walked in. It was the worst experience I've had in Boise at any restaurant. The only saving grace was the waitress that waited on us was the sweetest old lady. The food that we ordered took over an hour (From the time we ordered) and they kept bringing out one plate at a time. They apparently ran out of almost everything in the kitchen because my food wasn't even half plated when she brought it out to me and said they were working on the mashed potatoes! I've been to this restaurant a few times and I gotta say, this time was probably my last. I took the day off, and went in for breakfast. The waitress by the name of A***r waited our table. It seemed like all she wanted to do was get us out the door and on our way. We were friendly, and even helped clean the table for her by stacking our plates and cups. By the time we left there wasn't as much as a thank you, have a good day or anything. I even left a tip of $4 on a $30 meal. Can you make it a little less obvious that you hate your job? read more

My mother and I just had breakfast at the Boise Elmer's. We both ordered the same meal The Crab Benedict. It took a long time to get our meals. The place only had 4 tables going. When they arrived both meals were cold and tasted old. How on earth can hash browns be brown, crispy and yet still cold? We told the wait staff and they politely apologized and said they will replace the meals. We apologized for having to send them back. She said no problem. We waited and waited again. Finally our two breakfasts arrived. These two breakfasts were as cold as the last set they sent. Amazing! We ate half and gave up, paid and left. Once we got home we decided that the meals were awful and we should not have to pay for them. Our receipt number is 245786450 and was $37.48 plus a 4 dollar tip for super slow service! I sent this message to Elmer's through their website two days ago. I have heard no response. Never going back! read more

First time trying this joint out. Definitely a hidden gem for those who are new to the area. I ordered the hungry man breakfast, with a side order of French toast. The first order consisted of three eggs, hash browns your choice of a generous offering of meats (ham,sausage,bacon) or fresh fruit I chose the meats and was not disappointed. Now the French toast was AMAZING usually the boise area has lacked in the recent years months of having decent French toast that's not mixed with weird ingredients furthermore, They were topped with whipped cream, strawberries and powdered sugar. Overall great place to eat! Definitely gotta try the German pancake next time I go! I hear it's the crown jewel. read more

We have been here twice since moving to Boise and each time it has been awesome. The food is so much better than the so called "trendy" breakfast places around. Service is consistently good and the food is delicious. Prices are about average for breakfast places in the area. The first time I had the crabacado omelet and my husband had the potato pancakes. The second time I had the Willamette valley omelet (with some hollandaise on the side, because their hollandaise is AMAZING) and my husband had bacon shrimp skillet. We will go again and plan to bring our parents when they visit. read more

Very average. Checked this place out as my mom and I needed a place to eat near the airport before our flight back home. This place had decent reviews so we decided to give it a try. Essentially it is a local Boise version of a Denny's or Cocos. It is decorated like a grandmothers house from the 80s (floral wallpaper, fake plants, etc) and the hostess and servers all look like they could be the grandmother who owns the house. Not that anything is wrong with that. The staff was very nice but just kind of moved at a slow pace. We both ordered salads which were fine but not amazing. But I guess you can't really have super high expectations at a local diner like this. All of my other dining experiences in Boise were so great so was just kind of a bummer to leave the city on a just average note. Maybe we should have tried it for breakfast. We even got Fresh Coconut Syrup. The Service was Top-Notch, 5-Star, Professional from a Waitress that even had Truck Stop Experience. She was Prompt an Served Us with Hot off the Grill Food. We have been to the Elmer's in Boise 3 times now and everytime has been great. We went once for a late lunch and the food was very good from fish and chips to the clam chowder. Twice we've been in for breakfast and we were not disappointed! I've tried their German Pancake which was delicious. A must try with the German Pancake is the lingonberry butter, oh so good! I've also tried the pancakes which were light and fluffy and very tasty. My husband loves the sausage patties and the potato pancakes with green onions and bacon! Our server Carrie was about as close to perfect as a server can get. She was very friendly and completely on top of everything. Even our coffee cups never ran dry. When you've been driving all day cross-country and you just have to eat somewhere...you might end up at Elmer's. The interior was really outdated, as in everything about 1970s decor that's better left in the 70s. My entree was also stale and odd. The meat and veggies tasted like they'd been stored way too long in a freezer...and then microwaved. My friend had a sandwich, which was fine. He said the fries were all right.
