I'm really sad that I waited so long to try this place because everything that we ordered was fantastic. The beet salad was good, the seafood pasta was delicious with a nice variety of meat, and the brussels sprouts were out of this world. My husband and I split it a few plates and ended up being upset that we had to share this one. I'd take these over Uchi's famed brussels sprouts any day. The sauce was SO GOOD. It is a very small restaurant so it can get a bit noisy, but they've done the best that they can with the space. I was also a little disappointed that they didn't have any cocktails, but there is a decent beer and wine list so I can certainly make do with a glass of bubbles. Service was attentive and there was an adequate amount of parking. Will be back for more sprouts and dessert next time! read more

Despite living a block away, i have never come by before last Saturday because I heard the service was deplorable. It's true. A long story, but the service and the owners response was terrible. All in all: An $80 steak, salad and house wine. While the steak is good, their menu and the website - as of today - says it's 44 farms. It's not. We just had Elliot cater our 120 person wedding at their event space venue in the Cottage Grove Neighborhood (Cottage Grove Gardens) near the Heights. The Portuguese Octopus is to die for! Our must have every time we go. Also love the Thai Chili ribs, Mac and cheese, mussels, burger, salmon pesto dish, shrimp and grits, cucumber feta salad...everything is phenomenal! My husband and I met for our weekly date night and chose Elliot's table. Such a cute place with great service. We shared the assorted bread which was fresh and tasty, pork belly which was on point, shrimp and grits which had great flavor but horrible presentation with too much sauce, and the cheeseburger which was one of the best I have had in a while only problem was the fries were not crispy as if the grease was old. We did enjoy the food and our experience. We do wish they had more options on the dessert list instead of pies and cakes just sitting out on the counter. My boyfriend was sent to Houston for business and he flew me in for the weekend. I was not expecting there to be so many amazing-looking restaurants to choose from! For our first night, he wanted something nice so we narrowed our options to Elliot's and a few steakhouses. As Elliot's was the most reasonably priced of those, we decided to head there. Thanks to time-zone confusion, we made our reservation an hour later than we meant to. We ended up arriving about 45 minutes before our reservation but were happy to wait since that was our mistake. We ended up getting seated around our reservation time and it didn't take long to decide we were going to do the 3rd Tier of the Tasting Menu. Side note to add that I was a little disappointed with the drink selection. I hadn't noticed online that they were wine and beer only. Unfortunately, I have the palate of a toddler and the only wine I like is Moscato, which they didn't have on the menu. No drinking for me. :( Anyhow, we ordered the tasting menu and were thoroughly pleased. My boyfriend worked in restaurant management for many years and even he was impressed! Everything was perfectly cooked, the plating was beautiful, and the selection was top-notch. We got to sit right at the open kitchen and got to watch and listen to the entertainment in the kitchen. The sous chef even came over a couple of times to ask questions as he was preparing our meals. He was responsive to my requests and extremely friendly. In fact, everyone was very hospitable! Our waiter was attentive and whoever ran the food (sometimes the waiter, sometimes the sous chef) was wonderful in presenting the food and answering questions. We got to talk with some regulars who live nearby and even they were friendly and helpful, giving us other recommendations for things to do on our trip! All in all, this was a terrible way to start our trip because now the bar for the rest of Houston is very very high!! I was looking for a restaurant for my birthday and found this place, and it looked interesting so I made a reservation. Upon arriving I was a bit suspect as it shares a building with a gas station however I think I found my new favorite restaurant! The wait staff were amazing and the food was impeccable. My entire family had the best time and we will be back because I need more of the steak and octopus. Literally the best octopus I've had since I was in Portugal. We've always driven by this place and wanted to checked out! It has a nice family feel and the servers are really nice and friendly. We had Mac and cheese, NY strip steak and grilled duck. The food was amazing, but salty and over seasoned in my opinion. Like all the first bites were amazing and paired well with dark red, but they all got heavy towards the end. Regardless we finished all the dishes, got key lime bar as dessert (DELICIOUS) and got the bottle of wine we didn't finish to go. All and all I still recommend this place and will come back, maybe next time with our dog to sit outside for apps and zerts! read more

Elliot's is the style of place everyone would like to have in their neighborhood. It's authentic, run by a passionate chef/owner and creative. It's also intimate and has a very extensive wine list. Did I mention the service is very attentive? With all that said - not for the first time I dined with friends for a special occasion dinner. The owner and chef Elliot was aware of the occasion. The dinner was wonderful in all respects except one. That exception concerned the wine. I requested a wine recommendation from Elliot who if not a sommelier- would appear to qualify as one. He offered our table of four a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that fulfilled my request for something with good structure, not too astringent and a smooth texture. He brought it to the table, showed it and poured a taste quickly and then dispensed to our group. While the wine was very good - I learned of the excessively high $200 price - which was not close to being justified by the wine quality. Additionally he had made no mention of the price during the selection process. As a fine dining waiter in another life I know that if asked to recommend a wine it's essential to let the client know what the price of the selection is - especially when it's on the expensive end of the price spectrum. Sadly that didn't happen. When asked for a second bottle that would not be so pricey - but still is a worthy follower - a $100 bottle was then recommended. Listen, Elliot's Table is a nice neighborhood restaurant - with a broad wine list - but this is a place that carries very decent wines for $40 - 80 that won't break the bank. There is no need to try to take advantage of customers by sneaking a very expensive wine past them and hoping the special occasion will justify it in the end. Having visited Elliott's Table for some wine and appetizers a few weeks back, it was worthy of a dinner visit. We were going with friends who were going to make reservations but was under the impression they didn't take reservations, so we just walked into Elliott's table last Friday night for dinner. As we walked in the guy who "didn't greet us at the door" stood back about 10 feet and just looked at us like we were aliens. Finally, I spoke up and said, "Good evening, how are you tonight. We like a table for 4 for dinner", he finally mustered up some words and said, "Do you have reservations?" Apparently, he's not a veteran, or he would have know that if I had reservations for the evening I would have said, "Good evening, we have reservations for 4 at 8:00pm for the XXX party." He stood staring for 10 seconds and then said "we don't have any tables". I saw one table inside but after hearing they do take reservations, I figured it was reserved; which I can appreciate. I looked on the patio at 4 tables with only one occupied and asked if we could get a table outside. He said, "sure, but do you want a table inside?" By now I'm total confused but took the outside table as it was much quieter than the dining room (thank goodness it wasn't August). Our server turned out to be the same confused fellow that "didn't greet us at the door." He came over and asked if we'd like anything to drink, so we asked for the wine list. After selecting a wine, we had to flag him down to place the order. A few minutes later he came back with the wine, didn't bother to present the wine, show the label, or verify the wine delivered was what we ordered. Extremely unprofessional, but at this point we decided service wasn't his strong suit. When the wine was "delivery" we ordered an appetizer and said we'd wait to order our entrees. After pouring the wine (a rose') and not offering a wine bucket, he said, "I'll go put it in the cooler to keep it cold." Since the tables for four were VERY small, we appreciated him not leaving it on the table. Since we were outside and he seemed to be serving tables both inside and out, we had to flagged him down for more wine. For the appetizer and salads... We order the "Pork Belly" appetizer which we had before and was quite good. However, the presentation was unimpressive. The fried dices of pork belly were put on plate with some sauce beneath it; didn't have much eye appeal. The wives ordered salads for dinner while the guys ordered entrees. The Roasted Beet Salad - Goat Cheese, Roasted Purple & Golden Beets, Balsamic, Prosciutto, Pecans, was fairly bland and missing a couple of ingredients. Only beets were golden beets, couldn't find the goat cheese, and I think the rolled up thing in the photograph is the one piece of prosciutto. On a pile of arugula with what appeared to be a balsamic sauce of sorts, again, no cheese. A sore disappointment for $13. The Steak salad was vast improvement, nicely done medium rare slices of Tri Tip, accompanied by garden variety of greens. For the mains... My buddy and opted for entrées, he went with the Fried Chicken, and I'd read the reviews about Shrimp and Grits being their signature dish, so I order this to let everyone get a sampling. The Fried Chicken was, well, fried chicken, nothing remarkable about the chicken; it did have a nice crust with good flavor, best part of the dish was the presentation. For all the Beet Salad and Pork Belly lacked in presentation the Fried Chicken made up for being served on a plank with the chicken placed on a pile of french fries, some asparagus on one side, and a "smear" of what I believe was aioli on the other side. The signature dish of Shrimp and Grits looked like sloppy bowl of mess, VERY untypical of traditional shrimp and grits dishes. The grits were more of a soup with sauce mixed in with the grits to form a slurry. Five head-on shrimp were mingled in the slush with the body shell removed and the small shell on the tail intact. Bits of Taso added it's smoky and spicy flavor to dish; but I couldn't identify the Andouilee sausage unless it was in tiny pieces. While heads provide another dimension of flavor, they make eating them a MESS; trying to pull the head and small tail off with a knife and fork is job for a surgeon. So give up and use your hands, yes, you will have a big mess on your hands, literally. I enjoyed the flavors, but the dish was more suited for roadside crawfish boil that a nice restaurant. Glad I tried it, wouldn't order it again. During the meal our server was seen spottily along the way. We had bit of trouble getting his attention to order a second bottle of wine. Once again, the same service on the wine as the first. Another guy stop by the table very briefly and asked if everything was "OK", could have been Elliott or the manage, but he didn't introduce himself. Elliott's Table definitely needs some refinement, but they do have promise. read more

I was excited to try Elliot's table. However, our group's experience was less than ideal. While the staff helping us were great people, they appeared to be understaffed and stretched thin. Additionally, two people in our party ordered the New York Strip and while they were supposedly medium rare, the centers were very red and cold. It was most comparable with seared tuna, although that's probably cooked more. The first person to reach the center sent hers back and got it comped. Because the service was slow, the second couldn't send hers back for a while and it wasn't comped. The picture shows the second one cooked more once it was sent back (it was still undercooked in the center). My burger was good though, and the Brussels sprouts were excellent. Even though our experience probably wasn't typical, I'm not really motivated to return and give it another shot. read more

There's mixed reviews about this place, but I wanted to give it a try to see what this new place was all about. It's a small restaurant where the tables were very close to one another. The restaurant was casual, but the food was kind of "fancy-ish" --Pork Belly Cracklins (3/5) - Really fatty and it's understandable that its pork belly, but you can really taste the grease that they fried it in. The seasoning to it was pretty good, but the green aioli sauce gave it a little more flavor to it. --Roasted Gulf Oysters (1/5) - The oysters were grilled to perfection. As for the cheese, it tasted very chalky to me. Not your typical parmesan cheese oyster you're thinking. --Portuguese Octopus (4/5) - Very tender, battered and fried, but slightly falling off of the octopus. It was pretty good, along with the sauce which was I think almost the same sauce that came on the cracklin's plate. --Cheese Grits (0/5) - Every cheese thing I had here was pretty chalky, I don't know why! The waiter was nice enough to take it off the bill. --Seafood Pasta (0/5) - Bitter AF. This pasta came with one scallop, 3 shrimps, shredded crab, mushrooms, and sun dried tomatoes. Im not sure if the sauce or the pasta was bitter, but we did not like it one bit. Originally, I wanted to come the day of Valentine's. There was an event going on, and the tickets and food per person was $100.00. Im kind of glad that those tickets were sold out because the food to me was just ok. Our bill for this dinner was about $120 with tip and the only thing I would re-order is the octopus. The service was good, don't get me wrong. Update for 06/19/2019 This is my third review of the establishment. We have been here a good number of times since they've opened. We know the staff by recognition but not enough to high five them when we come in. First 5-7 times we really enjoyed the experience, the food, and the cozy atmosphere. I've written two extremely high five star reviews to help support the business because I loved our first few experiences. I'm a big supporter of small businesses as my family owned a successful restaurant for 23 years. I love recognizing hard work and heart and soul effort. Unfortunately the last two visits we came to try the fish options and we were so disappointed. The second to last visit we came to dinner and tried the golden tile fish. It was recommended by the waiter and we wanted to try it. For the price of the fish, the size was absolutely a joke. It was maybe 3oz of fish. I understand fresh caught fish is expensive but I would have more than willingly paid way more to have more fish. For ~$30 I got 3oz of fish on some grilled veggies over a smear. I left hungry and annoyed. Last night, we decided to take our visiting sister in law to the restaurant because we wanted to take her somewhere we felt was really nice and unique. We arrived at 7pm and the place is small so we understand there may be a wait. The wait staff of two were quite busy so we asked to be seated when the next table came open but would like to grab a drink while we wait. They agreed and we sat outside to be out of the way. Another party of three came in behind us and waited inside. Once a table was available, they sat them down immediately. I went in to address the issue and the waiter stated they had a reservation. Ok understood but no one came to address us or let us know that. We waited for 30 minutes and said we would just sit outside, still no drink service. Another ten minutes passed and they stated they had a table inside so we move. So we sat down and finally got asked our drinks. The waiters were obviously annoyed that we were anxious about waiting and were being snarky it. As we are waiting for drinks and food orders one of the waiters goes back behind the kitchen bar area (just left of the drink fridge) and dips a bite of fried food into a dipping sauce and eats it while on shift. He licks his fingers full on and wipes it on a towel near by and goes straight back into working. Gross. We order two fish dishes and two starters. Both fish options 1. The vermillion snapper and 2. Mahi were about 4 oz. they were about $25 each and was exactly similar to the golden tile dish. Fish on top of grilled spinach over a smear. The food is good but extremely underwhelming. The amount of food for the fish and the service doesn't match the price. I absolutely love this place. We went to a different restaurant with a 45 min way and decided to try Elliots table. Went in and waited maybe 5-10 minutes for their busy tables to be turned around. We were seated right away and ordered a bottle of wine. They have a large wine selection so try something delicious. We then ordered the bread selection, snapper filet, and shrimp and grits. The bread selection was amazing. We got some delicious breads with cheese, ham, and garlic butter. The snapper was so good! I don't think there are words to capture how great each bite is. I am giving them a top rating even though some might say that isn't fair since I did not actually eat in the restaurant and experience their service, drinks or ambiance. All valuable points - but in times like these you gotta roll with what you have. I know the restaurant is planning on starting up dine-in service this coming week. Located in a small strip near I-10 it is hard to miss with their large smoker grill out front. I have passed it everyday on my way to work and finally decided to place an order on Friday night. I could see them getting their patio ready for opening next week. The patio is normally dog friendly but because of limited seating and general weirdness right now it will be for 2 legged folks for a while. I ordered the Js Chopped Salad and the Pork Chop with Cheese Grits and Root Vegetables. The salad was large enough for two to split and you can order it on its own and add a protein if you prefer. The pork chop was juicy and had that mellow grilled flavor that I absolutely love. Those grits were so yummy! I can't wait to get the head on shrimp and cheese grits next time!! The place is small so it seems that the servers serve all the tables so be prepared to just flag one down when you want to order. That was no problem for us as we were in no rush. To start, we ordered the Roasted Oysters, Thai Chili Ribs and Pork Belly Bites. All were fantastic - could not pick a favorite! For our meals, our group ordered the Butcher's Cut for 2, Seafood Pasta, and Steak & Fries. Also, ordered the Mac as a side. The Butcher's Cut was served with Brussel sprouts, mac and fries - plenty and perfect for 2. The Seafood Pasta - very good but was expecting a tad more seafood as described.
