I had a great experience at Elite Electronics. When you walk in you'll find the friendly shop owner Lee surrounded by many TVs in various states of disassembly. Don't let the appearance deter you. If you need your expensive TV or high end monitor repaired then Lee is your man. I own a Dell Ultrasharp 30 inch 2550x1600 display. It's an essential tool for graphic design, photo retouching, and music production. At $1,400 retail you can imagine I was pretty bummed out when my display went black. I really couldn't afford to replace this monitor right now. I went on Yelp and started calling places advertising themselves as "electronics" or "computer repair" experts. Over and over I was told "no we don't work on computer monitors". What a joke. These places can replace a broken iPhone screen or swap out a bad hard disc drive, but they don't have the chops to diagnose electronic circuitry or handle a soldering iron. Electronics experts, my ass. Eventually I came across Elite Electronics. People on Yelp were saying they brought their broken TVs to this guy and got them back good as new. A ray of hope shone through the clouds. I called and Lee told me at first that computer monitors are not worth repairing. Well that's true for the cheap monitors in most offices, but when I explained what I have he told me to come on in. Lee asked for a $50 deposit to diagnose the problem. I thought this was fair and plunked down the credit card. He called me two days later and explained that he would need to order parts from Dell and they were expensive, the repair would cost $300. Ouch! But I was in this far so I told him to go ahead. The risk paid off. Lee called a week later and I went to the shop to find my big, beautiful screen was bright as ever. It's been a couple months and my monitor is working great. In our disposable culture it's nice to be able to get something fixed instead of chucking it in a landfill. When I was a kid, people kept the same TV for a decade, and every town had a local TV repair guy to fix it for you. I'm really glad we still have a guy like that around and I'll definitely go back to Lee if I need repairs to my electronics. read more

You know all those great reviews of Elite Electronics? Well, guess what? They're 100% true! I bought a used Nakamichi tuner/amp for a very reasonable price and was thrilled to get such a high-end piece of equipment at such a low price. Should have known . . . . A couple of months after I bought it, the right channel went out, as did the display. I called a couple of places but Lee seemed the most knowledgeable and accommodating. I brought it in (after finding out later he actually makes house calls!), paid the reasonable $50 deposit, and crossed my fingers. Two days later, he called and was honest when saying he had both good and bad news. The bad was that he couldn't find a new display. The good was that he found new parts for everything else and that the tuner/amp was working as good as new. He explained that he didn't want to install a used display because there was no way to tell how long it would last but that he'd keep looking throughout his network for a new one and let me know when/if he found one. He was prompt, reliable, knowledgeable, ethical, and skilled. His prices were very reasonable. What more can you ask for in a technician? I'd trust him with any electronic repair I need done in the future. read more

I used Elite Electronics when my Sony Bravia TV needed a repair. They were one of two choices for repairs that Sony gave me. And I decided to go with this place, since the other place had bad reviews. :) They were very fast to respond and they kept me up to date on my parts that needed to be ordered. Also, since I worked during the week- they had no problem fitting me into a Saturday Appointment. The repair man had to come twice, but he was always 20 minutes early. I didn't really mind, because its better than being late! He was also super friendly and patient- which was a plus. He even took off his shoes before he got inside my Asian home. Thanks! Brought my older plasma flat screen TV here when it was broken. The fee for diagnosis is $50, which can be applied to the cost of repair (very fair). In my case, there were 4 parts that needed to be replaced so it took them a few days to track down all the specifics and the cost, which turned out to be higher than the cost of buying another TV brand new. When I said that I wasn't interested in repairing, they said they would deal with recycling it for me. If I have a TV problem in the future, I would definitely come back here. read more

WARNING-Do not leave a message and expect them to call you back. They won't. I called and left a message about having my tv repaired and heard nothing. After almost 2 weeks I called back. They picked up and came out to get my tv that same day. From what I can tell this is there only flaw, and it's easily avoidable. Just keep calling until someone picks up. Trust me, it's worth it. I had them pick up my 42" LCD Panasonic tv to be repaired. Through no fault of their own the part was on backorder....then backorder turned into "we have no idea when the part will come in"... I had a battle with Panasonic, but the people at Elite were nothing but helpful and communicative. Every time they heard something they would call to update me. I could tell they felt bad about having my tv for so long without being able to repair it. Eventually I got Panasonic to just replace my tv. They shipped it to Elite and the repair guy delivered the brand new tv to my house and helped me set it up. I hope not to need their services again (or at least not for awhile!) but I will be happy to give them my business again. read more

I have an old Sony 5-disc CD player which was no longer functioning properly and that Sony was no longer supporting. After reading rave reviews of others who brought old CD players in for repair, I decided to drive over to Elite to see if Lee could work his magic on my player. Don't know how he did it but he was able to get the proper information and parts and my player is working just fine now. After about a week, the disc carousel wasn't opening entirely. I brought the player back to Lee and through even more effort and quite a bit of ingenuity, Lee took it as a challenge and corrected the problem. This company, on the other hand, ordered my warrantied part (received it in two days), and installed it that Saturday. Best yet... it was totally free! I had a cracked Mercedes key case and decided to be an Einstein and bought a new key case so I can remove and replace the printed circuit board chip from one house to the next. Didn't have clear instructions on how to do this but used a needle nose plier and was able to do one of my keys successfully. I tried doing the same with the 2nd key and had a much harder time but eventually I did it. Checked both keys that the remote control buttons work and I was happy that both remotes now are like brand new. Little did I know but the other day when my wife tried to drive the car, she couldn't get the key fob to turn in the ignition. My key works fine. Long story short, I didn't check to see if both keys can start the engine. Turns out I damaged one of the printed circuit boards when I pulled it out with the pliers. I took the PCB and key housing to Elite and he looked at it with his magnifying glass and said I had 2 damaged lines. He said he has never worked on anything this small before but will give it a try. If he can get it to work, it will cost $40 but if it doesn't work, there is no charge. I said can you do it now and he told me to give him 30 minutes. I came back and reinstalled everything back into the key housing and crossed my fingers. Inserted the key fob and started the car. I am so grateful he was able to fix my mistake and saved me a few hundred dollars as a new Mercedes key is really expensive. I highly recommend that if you have any electrical problems, bring it to Elite and see what he can do. read more

I brought in an older CD player that I love and I was so disappointed when it stopped loading and playing discs. I tried two audio repair shops before coming to Elite. Both shops refused to repair it because it was too old/would be difficult to get parts. Luckily, I brought it to elite where Lee took on the challenge and repaired it! I'd purchased a beautiful audiophile amp for a too-good-to-be-true price. Guess I shouldn't have been too surprised when it started cutting out intermittently. My 55" Panasonic Plasma TV (TC-P55VT30) went out. It wouldn't turn on, just flashed LED 7 times. This TV is too heavy to cart around, so I balked at Elite's home charge, but I wish I hadn't. Instead, I called Art's TV which had a lower house call fee. They said they could repair it at home, but needed a part, went back to store, brought back part, but that didn't fix it. We had to load it into their van to take to the shop. Over a week later, they called to say they couldn't fix it because there was something wrong with my screen, so I'd have to buy a new TV. I took it back anyway and asked Elite for a second opinion. Lee at Elite was awesome. He was courteous and fixed my TV (when Art's said it was unfixable) at a fraction of the cost of buying a new TV. I brought in my TV for diagnosis after letting Lee know that the picture froze and I could not change channels or watch TV any further. He charged me $325 and said it was fixed. 21 days later when the same issue happened he said - it's a DVR problem "you need to exchange your DVR". I don't think he was honest with me from the beginning and he collected $325 from me when the issue from the beginning was with the DVR and not the TV. Lee could not give me a satisfactory answer why he charged me $325. I would not recommend to use this vendor at all. read more

My Panasonic plasma died after 9 years, and I found Elite Electronics via Panasonic's web site. Cuong immediately impressed me with the knowledge he had about my TV upon inspection, and it took less than a week for him to fix it. When I couldn't find someone to help me pick up my TV, he offered to deliver it. After helping me put my TV back on the wall, he pointed out several details about my audio system that I was neglecting, such as insufficient ohm rating on my surround speakers, and exposed wiring that could short out my amp. Again, I was impressed by his thorough knowledge of my system, and I'm thrilled that I'm still able to use my TV at a much lower cost than buying a new one that meets my demanding standards. read more

A year ago we moved to Alameda and had an expensive Sony TV, sound, and fancy remote system installed that turned out to be impossibly complicated to operate or even just to turn on. One prompt house call from Lee and he got things working but told us that some of our fancy equipment setup could still cause trouble again and to call him when and if we had other problems. A few days later, about 6:00 pm, trying to turn on the Warrior game we could get a picture but not the sound so gambled on calling Lee that late. He was still working in his shop (and watching the Warrior game) but came to our place immediately. He rewired everthing, eliminating some of the fancy stuff, and we now finally have a working, uncomplicated TV system. We have a fairly old model pioneer elite 52 inch plasma tv. After operating flawlessly for years, suddenly, no power. We looked up some online conversations from people who had had bad luck repairing this model, albeit, their sets were somewhat newer. Yelp reviews gave elite electronics 5-stars, so we called on Lee, and he delivered. It's a heavy wall-mounted set, which he loaded up, took back to the shop, and redelivered in a week good as new. I have a kindle paperwhite that needed a screen repair. They refused to even look at it, and said because they are not "factory authorized" they cannot touch it. There is no factory authorized programs for kindles, so by that logic there's no place to go. Even a note saying the kindle is not repairable would have helped, because then I could proceed with a warranty claim. They would not even do that. They would not help me at all, or even suggest anywhere else that could help me. I expect this sort of attitude from Best Buy, not from local merchants (who I go to when ever I can). My very expensive TV no longer had a picture and I was considering just buying a new one but when I saw the good reviews on Elite, I decided to give then a try. It is a 50 inch wall model Panasonic and there is no way I would be able to get it from SF to Alameda so the $135 in home charge was worth it. Out of the blue when we turned on our TV this afternoon, there was no sound. No matter what we tried--changing the batteries in the remote, following instructions under settings or following the directions from the Sony e-manual--nada.
