I don't know if it was an off night or under staffed service wise and kitchen wise. We made a reservation here because it was on the Top 10 list for Charleston. I will not be back when I visit again. Service was horrible and curt. I think the manager was our waiter but I'm not 100% positive. Either way he's so busy selling you on the award winning dishes (must be a local award) and the features he doesn't allow you finish asking your questions before he starts to answer. There were four of us and three ordered appetizers. Only one showed up and then dinner arrived. When I informed the server/manager of this he replied "oh really?" Like I was lying or something and then nonchalantly said - oh well I'm sorry. Here's your dinner and I'll get the appetizers and they will be on the house. Never did he offer to bring me a new dinner after I enjoyed my appetizer. I would have appreciated that because he passed it all out and got lost looking for new silverware for my friend. Then I tried my food and it was lukewarm. Risotto was more like spackle...So thick! Also the menu reads "red rice" I thought that meant red grain. No, that meant lots of tomato sauce. Mahi-mahi was dry and very disappointing. Waiter took so long to ever check on us again I just ate it. The won award for shrimp and grits. I'm not sure why- They were bland. Scallops also had some kind of risotto under them that was stiff and flavorless. I should have got up and left when a roach flew on to my friend face and then on to her cup! But we didn't. We sat out on the patio so I guess. The I I g on the cake that I could not move past was when a rat scurried across the fence line. The other guest and staff treated this as just another night and no big deal. This is a BIG DEAL! There were other issues like a prep table out as you walked to the patio uncovered and exposed. I should of known better and insisted we left but I gave the benefit of the doubt. I'll never do that mistake again. read more

I had the fried green tomatoes with pine to cheese, one daughter had the chicken and waffles and the other had the yogurt parfait. What a great little spot for breakfast. Normal breakfast. You can go fancy but really for eggs or an omelets this is top notch. We were at the Mills House and wanted something close by but not hotel restaurant and this fits the bill perfectly. We opened up the place because 8AM was the opening time. We had the Green eggs and ham omelet which is served with egg whites and pesto to give some green hue. Swiss cheese put it over the top. We added 2 over easy eggs and split our bounty. Our server was super nice. The coffee was good and kept coming. The ambiance was really nice. Some locals along with tourists started showing up and obviously this place has a great business. OMGGGG!!!!!!! This place was beyond amazing. The staff was so kind and I highly recommend asking for the server *Sam* he's so great. I asked him about the city and he gave me a full history lesson, well a couple but one specifically on Chicken and Waffels.... I'll let him share. I had the Daily Fish which was Red Snapper with this red creole rice and sausage and just like omg look at the pic I forgot to take one when the food initially came out but you know the vibes !!! I finished up with an incredible suggestions from Robert (the bar tender who was incredibly friendly as I sat by myself). I'm not a huge sweets person so I got the syrup shot that comes with a little pancake and you can either put the package in it and drink it out take the shot and chase with pancake. Loved this place for brunch! I ordered the avocado egg sandwich which came on a warm, crispy croissant with a side of potatoes. It was such a good portion that I was definitely full and satisfied after the meal. One of my favorite things about Eli's Table is the outdoor seating area around back. It's the perfect place for brunch on a nice, breezy day. The food came out quickly and fresh, and the wait staff was very friendly. I had visited this restaurant during one of my first times in Charleston, and the overall charm of it that reflects the city that it's in is one of the reasons I came back to this lovely town! read more

Fried tomatoes (3.5 stars): layered w pimento cheese and aged balsamic. Tomatoes were very crispy. Cheese was on the mayo-y side, cut with the sweet tangy balsamic. Fried oyster sliders (4 stars): with a broccoli based slaw that was really refreshing. Oysters were well fried and tender. Came with 2-3 small oysters on each of 2 small sliders Foragers salad (3 stars): with kale and blackberries. Decent salad, although massaging the kale could have improved it's texture significantly. Key lime "pie" (3 stars): it was like a dense dulce de leches cake flavored with key lime. Interesting take but was overall a bit too dense and sweet Service: I get it- no one wants to be working Christmas Day. But the hostess was not particularly warm and accidentally gave away our reserved table to the only other Asian couple who were waiting for bar seats. Once we got to the bar though, the bartender was really nice and even split our shared salad into 2 plates without asking. The overall feel is what New American cuisine was in the 2000s, but well executed. read more

Eli's table was really a poor experience. Signature ribeye steak that is supposedly "so tender a butter knife isn't even needed." It was over cooked, full of grizzle and unrendered fat, tough and dried out. Plus, they got the sides wrong. Chicken breast? Had no creole sauce or parsnip purée as described. It was as hard and dried out as a hockey puck. Both were sent back. The duck with a sweet potato eggo waffle was cute though. Dry, and cute. The 4 fig jam over some tiny pieces of prosciutto on small bits of bread wasn't really a crostini, but it was ok. Not worth what they charge for it though. Same with the 3 fried green tomatoes. Ok, not worth the $$. Service was also slow. 45 min between apps and meals served. Wasn't even that busy. Multiple empty tables. Slow is ok. Understaffing is an issue all over. But they were well staffed, and the food was laughably bad. Only saving grace was our waiter who was very kind and apologetic. I have to give thanks to Wendy's, as we stopped there for dinner after leaving here at 10pm... We have had far more bad food experiences in Charleston than we've had good ones. Supposedly a great foodie town? Not so much. Better experiences in mount pleasant, IOP & Sullivan's. read more

We arrived late to Charleston on a Thursday and our concierge suggested Eli's Table. While service started a bit slow despite the dining room being nearly empty, it was worth the wait. We had the fried green tomatoes, duck and waffles, and shrimp and grits. Probably one of the best meals we've had. The highlight of the night was Raymond, who gave us a list of his recommendations for restaurants and tours in the city.... every one we tried was spot on! We came back on Saturday for brunch and the food did not disappoint. I had the hamburger... so good! Again, the only hiccup was a service issue when the bartender dressed down a server in front of us. Try this place!!! read more

My fiancé and I were looking for coffee in the evening but unfortunately most coffee shops were closed. We went into Eli's table (an upscale restaurant in downtown Charleston) and asked if they would be able to make us a couple cups of coffee. We were met by Katie at the hostess stand who couldn't have been any nicer. Not only did she go back and get coffee for us but she made sure that it was the way we liked it before we left. Reservations on a Sunday night were not needed, the place was empty and the hostess was loud and made the place feel like a dive bar. My husband ordered the risotto which tasted ok but wasn't cooked properly. I ordered the salmon but was told a few minutes later that they were out of salmon. I reorder the "catch of the day" which was a mahi mahi over risotto. Again, the risotto was not cooked properly and honestly it tasted like they put tomato sauce over the vegetable risotto. Chose this place bc they seemed to have some good vegetarian options and chicken options which could not be said about most of the other fine dining places we had heard of in Charleston. Visiting from California, we specifically wanted southern food, but we didn't have reservations anywhere. This place was kind of a French/South Carolina cuisine spot (not like French Creole at all). The food was so good and unique flavors but still exactly what we're hoping for on our short trip to South Carolina. The fried green tomatoes were so good we ordered a second helping. As advertised, the Shrimp and Grits were BOMB! I came in by myself during the week and sat at the bar, got my food really quick and the bartender was very friendly (forgot his name). Had lunch here before heading off to the airport! Lunch at 12:30 was already packed but we managed to nab a table without reservations. Our server Kayla W was incredibly warm and attentive. Since the kitchen was a little backed up, she brought over some fresh beignets for my little ones to help ease the wait. They were delicious. Light and fluffy and a hit with the kids. So disappointing. We went for breakfast and ordered a variety of dishes: beignets, a side of the Gouda grits and bacon, and an Eli's breakfast platter with sweet potato pancakes. We couldn't tell if the pancakes were actually sweet potato and had to ask the waitress if we had accidentally received plain pancakes. They also were not served with butter or syrup. Incredibly poor customer care. A very distasteful experience. Planning ahead to visit our cadet at the Citadel over Easter, we called for reservations more than a week in advance. The hostess at Eli's told us the restaurant wasn't taking reservations for Easter, it was first come, first served, but if we arrived early Easter morning, at 9:00, there'd more than likely be a spot. No, not so. Upon arrival, the hostess was incredibly cavalier - there was no chance of being seated without a reservation. So I realize there are misunderstandings among employees and occasions like this when staff are poorly informed and/or not at all trained. However, the hostess was actually snotty in this case. That's inexcusable. As if I was making up a story to get in. I don't need somebody to kiss my feet when they make a mistake, but the circumstances called for empathy, not sneering bitchiness. Right around the corner is Poogan's Porch, an authentic Victorian home serving traditional Southern food with style. Happy ending, because our family of five was seated immediately. More importantly, in contrast to the debutante working the hostess stand at Eli's with all the attitude, the Poogan's hostess and server were cheerful and genuinely friendly. In fact, they made the visit memorable. With so many great restaurants to visit in Charleston, the snooty attitude at Eli's will never earn our patronage. read more

This was our first night and our first time ever in Charleston. Our dinner at Eli's Table was exactly the kind of experience we were hoping for. Katie the manager greeted us warmly and despite a busy evening, she squeezed us in after just a short wait. We spent our time waiting at the bar and ordered the fig crostini appetizer and a glass of rose (SO good). After we were seated, Dillion took wonderful care of us and we finally settled on the shrimp and grits (for the husband) and I ordered the scallops and mushroom/truffle rissoto. Both dishes were phenomenal. The scallops melted in my mouth and my husband raved about the flavors of his shrimp. Dillon came by often and although I knew he was busy he stopped to chat and check on us often. finally, the ambiance. We like a peaceful atmosphere and Eli's felt comfortable yet quiet...elegant and welcoming. This morning my companion and I had breakfast at Eli's Table. We arrived shortly after 9:00 am and were greeted and seated immediately. Our server Toussaint offered water and coffee promptly. We both opted for a light breakfast of the berries and yogurt and we split an order of beignets. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fruit which also had granola, yogurt and drizzled with honey. It tasted so fresh and delicious. The beignets were pure heaven! Toussaint was friendly, attentive, and a made our meal a true pleasure. My husband and I visited Charleston for the weekend and decided to only go to restaurants we weren't able to attend in Atlanta. This place we stumbled upon walking downtown and the wait was 20 minutes. While we waited we attended the art gallery next door. When it was time to get our table, we were seated outside. The ambiance was awesome.. from the birds flying around to the scenery and the good weather. This made for the perfect brunch. We decided to share a carafe of mimosa which gave us about 3/4 glasses per person. These were theeeee best mimosas I'd ever had in my life. The orange accent added a hint of extra citrus flavor. They were so refreshing. I order the crab cake appetizer. These were almost the best I'd ever had. They had such a pretty garnish on the plate and some raumalude to die for which accented the cakes nicely. I decided to get the grilled cheese with she crab soup. The grilled cheese tasted delicious on sourdough and was nice and hot when it got to me. The cheese was melted perfectly. There were tomatoes on it but I picked them out and ate a little separately. The waiter was great! He knew the menu inside and out and never missed a beat. This meal was damn near perfection. read more
