I've been to this salon several times and always tipped well, but today's visit was unacceptable. After accepting a customer in front of me then proceeding to remove my gel manicure, the staff refused to paint my nails and offered no explanation. They still had plenty of time before closing, yet chose to move on to another pedicure instead. Very unprofessional and disappointing treatment for a returning customer. I must add that they gave me a cute flower on my birthday thus three stars, but I likely won't be back. Next day update: I got a call from the manager of the store apologizing for the inconvenience which I genuinely think was very thoughtful of her to review the security in the name of customer service. Moved to the area recently and have found my new go-to nail salon! I have had the pleasure of working with different nail techs for manicures and pedicures and they have all been wonderful. They are able to work with design ideas that you come with but also offer suggestions when needed. It is a relaxing experience and has been very healthy for my nails. They offer builder gel, gel x, gel, acrylic, dip powder and more! I am excited to try the cat eye and chrome designs that they offer in the future. I will say, that it is a steep price but I do think that the service and fun vibe they offer is worth that. read more

Went in to have one of my nails fixed, decided to pay for a full too, it was 5 for the one nail then 25 for the fill, a total of $30. The sign says a fill starts at 18 dollars for acrylics but I agreed anyways. After we were done, I handed him my credit card. He then informed me he would be charging me $5 additional, a total of $35 dollars. Just thought I'd let y'all know they change prices at the last min and it hasn't been 24 hours and I'm already back to have them fix 2 of my already broken nails!! So there's a fair amount of stuff that I didn't like about Elegant Nail: It's small, and they've chosen to fill it with the weirdest decor like a plastic, shiny giant gold watch clock, random swaths of fabric, and a flower wallpaper border strip. Aside from ambiance (which isn't all that important really), the real boo-hisses are for the pedicure chairs -- though cushiony, the roller massager is nearly non-existant (I barely noticed it was on!) AND they've actually taped over the shiatsu button so that you can't utilize it. Boo-hiss #2: the selection favors shimmer and China Glaze; there were only a few matte choices in OPI in fun colors. Boo-hiss #3: No music, just a TV with the volume up. And boo-hiss #4: They start a timer when your pedi is finished, letting you know when you can give up your seat at the drying station (never seen that before!). Man, Christina sure is cranky about this place. Why the heck is she giving it four stars if she's so sour? Here's why: BEST paint job I've had in a long time. My technician really took the time to trim and shape my nails and cuticles exactly, and the paint job is perfect. The leg and foot massage was not the greatest, and they don't incorporate a scrub or anything special. But the attention to detail is definitely there, and I feel like some of the other nearby salons have gotten away from that. They didn't once try to sell me on upgrades or add-ons (much appreciated!), and actually they only seem to have a basic pedi on offer: priced at $24. I'll come back. I have been a regular customer for two years now and I will continue to be. I make appointments and my tech, Jenna, is the best. She is always on time does an amazing job on my hands and feet. The shellac gel color is the best and last a while. Contrary to the reviews that I have read, the service is always courteous, prompt and respectful. I have never witnessed one of the technicians being rude to a customer. Just the opposite, I have on several occasions observed customers come in 20 minutes before closing with unrealistic expectations. Ive observed difficult customers that dictated to the technicians how they should be doing their jobs. Lets just say that I admire the patience that I observe from the workers in the shop. read more

Do NOT go here!!! While my technician was nice (albeit moved a little more slowly than I would have liked with respect to prepping and painting my nails), the color I selected seemed very different on my nails than it was on the selection reel. My technician explained, after the polish had been applied (my second coat was on two nails total), that the selection reel colors were off because they had lightened in the sun. I asked to have the polish removed as it looked too dark when applied, offered to pay something even though the manicure was not complete, and handed her my credit card. As we were at the register discussing how much I should pay, another technician actually came over, ripped my credit card out of my technician's hands and shouted (clearly so I could hear it) some variation of: "I AM CHARGING HER THE FULL AMOUNT, SHE DOESN'T GET TO BE DIFFICULT!" Had I gotten the full gel manicure, it would have been $30. My technician got her to give my credit card back before charging me, and I ended up paying $20 + a $5 tip for my technician for the manicure (even though nothing was on my nails when I left, it was not my technician's fault the colors were mismatched) as the other technician literally screamed at me NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN! and some variation of insults at me on repeat. I have been to Elegant Nails many times over the past year, have brought friends, and never had this kind of experience before here (or, frankly, anywhere), but I will NEVER come back or recommend it to any friends again. My nail tech, Harin, is amazing. I found her through referral by a close friend whose nails always look incredible. She is consistent, the work she does is always impeccable and she is very honest about her perspectives on color or the quality of product. For example, twice I chose a shellac color that separates and doesn't apply evenly and she applied extra coats to even the color out once and another time she removed the color and advised me to choose another--starting over entirely. She spent time with me both instances and despite the fact that she is always booked with back-to-back appointments, she did not rush me or her work and instead made sure to complete the job perfectly. Regarding the salon itself, it's unassuming, and consistently clean. It does get busy at times, but that's because they are always willing to accommodate customers and I have seen many a time when staff who are on their way out will stay to accommodate walk-ins. They provide a free beverage and signs displaying WiFi pass and I'm always greeted with multiple niceties whenever I walk in. Jenna is also very kind and amazing. I've seen her work and she is equally lovely, honest and consistent. She is my choice after Harin. read more

The owner Tu Tung is really rude. I, black female, went into the salon signed in, and then a white man signed in 10 minutes later. I was then placed in the pedicure share to sit in water for twenty minutes, when the man was placed in his pedicure chair. Then the lady says 5 minutes. 15 minutes later she sits in front of the man and starts to work on his feet. I ask her why was he going first. She said "man works on woman, woman works on man, 2 minutes". 15 minutes later a lady comes to work on my feet. I then ask why did he get to go before me. She repeated, "man works on woman, woman works on man". Okay, but this is a woman working on me, I then asked for the manager, they pointed to Tu Tong. He said just a minute, and finished his clients' nails. He then stands up and proceeds to talk loudly to me, and state she tell you 2 times. I said I feel that I should be compensated with and extra 10 minutes on my massage, or 10% ($3.50) discount. He says, she tell you, ""man works on woman, woman works on man". I said sir I yelp, so you would rather me place a bad review on yelp verses you apologizing and making this situation right. (So I'm not one to pull race cards, and thought nothing racial until this point.) He says I help all of your family. I said sir I live in GA, you don't know my family. He says your family at the school, I said the school, he then refers to NCCU(HBCU), he says I go to the school and give your family discounts. Sir I'm not related to those people, why do you think that's my family because I'm black, he says yes. I then point to a black lady at the shop and asked is she my family, he says yes. I said sir all black people aren't related, just as all Vietnamese people are not related, nor offer unprofessional customer service like you. Elegant Nail is in the complex next to Station 9 (off 9th street) in the same strip as Baba Ghannouj. That whole little complex is looking a little worse for wear and there are lots of vacant store fronts. That said, Elegant Nail is open until 7pm (according to the stickers on the window, yes, stickers) and I didn't need an appointment. In terms of polish, I saw both OPI and China Glaze colors but no Essie. I personally am an OPI fan ;) A Mani/Pedi will run you $35 here (plus $1 for the file and buffing-cube-thing that the state mandates is used fresh for each client). I was happy with my pedicure. The chairs and foot bath looked clean and the lady doing my nails listened when I asked her not to cut my cuticles. That said, I couldn't confirm that they had sterilized the instruments, including the pumicey thing for scrubbing the bottom of my feet. I like to see the instruments still wrapped up from the autoclave or coming straight out of the disinfecting liquid. (This is when knowing too much about microbiology is NOT helpful!) The leg and hand massages were very nice and I feel like that is where some nail places skimp. She even did a hot towel wrap thing before the massage! My nails looked great, no smudges or chips after two days and I am pretty tough on my hands. The lady I saw didn't rush me and was very attentive so no complaints about her. I would come back here, and probably will since it is so close to campus! read more

KEVIN YELLED AT ME?! A technician actually engaged in a verbal fight inside the salon trying to tell me I was lying about him doing my nails!!Need I say more...Honestly this is the worst salon I've ever been to. I have been here a total of 4 times. First for a fill in, 2nd for a repair, 3rd for a fill in, and now 4 for another repair! Horrible polish job by Kevin. he did both of my repairs and today he is literally raising his voice in a different language. There are no other customers in the salon, so he certainly shouldn't be complaining when all he was doing was twiddling his thumbs. If you don't do a good job, don't complain when I come back to get it touched up or fixed; it is not my fault. Kevin is extremely grumpy, rude, and unprofessional. My first visit was with Kenny, who is a great technician. I actually recommended him to my friends. I will not be back. Every time a new customer would come in, the wildly bitchy dictator doing gel nails deflects any questions about wait time, and at best gives a vague response like "not long". When I pointed this out he first said I was looking at my nails from the wrong direction and then he said my nails were cooked...he had just filed them and yes, he was correct...they were crooked. Absolutely horrifying experience. I feel so bad for my sweet daughter who wanted to pamper me for Mother's Day. Instead, the guy who did my pedicure was rude and outright abusive. He kept me waiting for at least 20 minutes, with my feet soaking in nearly cold water. He roughed up my legs during the "massage part," which he performed while looking and yelling at the younger guy working next to him. It was more like a beating than a massage. When I told him he was hurting me he ignored me and walked away in a huff, clearly offended that I had dared to speak up. The environment between the employees is toxic; they all seem to be unhappy working in that field and take it out on unsuspecting clients. It was obvious that the two guys hated each other which was quite awkward. Just all around awful. I hope this review can warn people not to patronize this business. read more
