Don't get me started
Guy H.

I'm not sure how many times I've been here but, thought I'd update for two reasons. 1. Thank you to the family that is there selflessly delivering their loving offering to patrons. Truely an endangered commitment these days. 2. To inform those unaware of El Vecino that they are missing out. It's superior Tex Mex. My Mexican Side Car and Big Johns platter was enough to send me into Sunday afternoon happiness. I recommend you visit asap.

Quality food but can be lacking in flavor. The salsa was good but the Mexican lasagna was bland and needed spice, acidity, anything to add more flavor Service is excellent! And its a fun place to be, they have a full bar with seating.

Great authentic Mexican restaurant tucked into the neighborhood area. We went on a Friday night, there was a 30 min wait but we were able to get a drink from the bar and sit and wait and time flew. The service and staff were all really friendly. The food came really quickly. I ordered the Taco Salad and loved it. It was very flavorful and it didn't need the dressing. My drink was the Sangria Margarita and it was so good ! Overall great little spot to support. Will be going again!

I had the scrumptious crab enchiladas with charro beans, guacamole and a top shelf margarita! So great! I'm fortunate to live close to this gem!

The food, ambience and service overdelivers! The portions are just right, with the right amount of flavors throughout each dish. Our party gobbled up the chips and salsas which were perfection. Be sure to order a side of queso, it does not disappoint. Looking forward to our next dine out to try some of the other dishes. There are plenty of options to try from.

Just left a Saturday family lunch here and I don't think I could have even imagined a better family weekend late lunch. We came with our little ones in tow and the restaurant was pretty packed on a random Saturday at 1pm. We were quickly seated and opted for some draft beers, a margarita, and some guacamole. We got the chicken mole, spinach enchiladas, combination fajitas, and a chicken quesadilla. All the food was delicious but the service was next level. Our server couldn't have been nicer and she even overheard us speaking about a birthday and we got a full birthday celebration by what felt like the entire restaurant staff!! The green salsa served at the table is super tasty and has some heat kick. The red salsa they serve is also super tasty. The steak fajitas were super moist and tasty. Even the chicken fajitas had on point flavor. We will definitely be bask!!

Overall this spot was just okay. I give them a 6 outta ten. The hospitality, service, and friendliness of the staff is welcoming. Not really sure if I'll return though. All Mexican restaurants aren't for everyone.

This place is awesome. The employees are very helpful, atmosphere is inviting, decor is nice. I would definitely recommend. We had the sampler platter which had a little bit of everything and it was really good. My bf had the fajitas and I had the shrimp tacos. He was raving about how flavorful and soft the meat was and my shrimp tacos were very good as well. Our server, Arlene, always had a smile and was attentive and just positive. She checked on us constantly and made us feel welcome. Overall we had a great time.

Great spot. Great service. Love their fajitas but the flour tortillas are mini sized, smaller than the size of my hand.

Ask the Community - El Vecino

What's the happy hour time and specials?

3-6pm M-F, $5 margaritas

Does El Vecino have any gluten free options? Are the chips okay or friend in the same oil as chimichangas, etc.?

Do we need reservations for 2 around 6:00 on a Saturday night?

I don't think so but with Father's Day weekend may not be a bad idea.

Happy Hour info? I'd like to try this place out. And sample several drinks.

Monday-Friday - 3 to 6

A staple of Uptown, Las Palmas is often referred to as the best Tex-Mex in Dallas. While I may be…read morebiased as it's my local spot, I do think Las Palmas is excellent. The location is super cute and always packed. You definitely need a reservation or have to go super early to get a spot. There is valet parking as well as street parking, which can get a bit crowded. I've had a ton of different food items the years, but their fajitas are their signature dish for a reason! It comes out sizzling, fresh, and delicious. Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! My friend ordered the steak quesadilla and thought it was tasty too.

I wished it came with more than 3 tortillas or at least 4 since I don't put too much meat in my fajitas. I also tried the hickory grilled ribs. It was kinda salty, but the barbecue sauce was ok. The meat was very tender & falls off the bone. The fries that it comes with were alright. There was a little of wait, but I didn't mind since the food was good. Our food did take a while. Our waitress was very attentive & filled our water. There was seating inside & outside on the patio. I was glad that we were sat outside since it was a beautiful day today. Besides inside was kinda dark. Overall, the food is a little pricey, but totally worth it. A must are their fajitas.

The food is amazing!! Obviously every dish is meat based here and it's cooked to perfection. Seasoned deliciously and very tender. The garlic mashed potatoes were smooth and tasty. We also ordered Chicharrónes and guac. I'll admit I was very skeptical about The Chicharrónes because they're either cooked right or they're not. They got it down here. Everything was cooked exceptionally well and delicious. 10/10 recommend. Food and drinks are great!

Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

I was genuinely excited to bring my friend here for her birthday after such an incredible…read moreexperience back in December. That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
