Out of town, so needed some guidance for lunch. Yelp reviews sounded "delish", so we were on our way. Keep in mind that this was mid week and their were a minimum number of other customers at the time. The waitress was attentive and our chips and salsa arrived quickly. The salsa had a nice amount of "kick", but the chips weren't the best. My husband said that his chicken was dry, to the point that he really didn't eat much of it. The rest of our order was satisfying, but nothing special. They also have a lunch buffet available. Our family of five had lunch here recently. We mainly ate from the buffet, which had a lot of delicious food, such as: fried fish, chicken fajita mix, beef soup (really good!), red beans and rice, tacos, french fries and a lot more. Our picky kids even liked the food and selection, imagine that! The restaurant appeared filled with a lot of local clientele, which is always a testament to the food quality:cost ratio. A last minute decision to come here for a late night meal proved to be some of the best Mexican food we've ever tasted. This is coming from a huge Mexican food lover and a fiancée who also enjoys tasty food just as much (thank you Williamsburg engagement weekend). The staff was VERY nice and the owner was genuine. You can tell they really care about the quality of their food. They even make special drinks fresh from time to time, such as Chicha (purple corn drink -- delicious!!), and Horchata (cinnamon rice drink). The atmosphere is nice but the room is cramped. They take reservations and because of that (which I didn't know) my party of 8 had to wait because a party of 4 was sat at a larger table. This place was in a typical strip mall, full of generic stores and restaurants. But this restaurant was anything BUT generic. The service was quick and attentive. The food was authentic and the price was very reasonable. I've been to Mexico and eaten plenty of authentic Salvadorean and Mexican dishes here in the US. This little joint in Williamsburg definitely knows how to cater to its mostly Latino clientele and didn't try to gentrify it for the rest of White America - not that there's anything wrong with that. Most of the dishes on the menu were around $10 and portions were generous. I had the Milanese chicken and my friend had the pollo saltado. I always had Peruvian roasted chicken growing up in NJ, but I haven't found a place that serves the authentic flavor since then. I was so glad I came across this restaurant on Yelp. Since I came by the establishment near opening time, I walked through Tu Tienda and entered through the side doors leading to the restaurant. I ordered a 1/4 chicken with Spanish rice and plantains. Based on the good reviews, I decided to try this place out. We normally go to Plaza Azteca but the Williamsburg location doesn't offer the same quality food & service that I'm used to. I was excited to try El Sabroson, their menu looked interesting and I was ready to try something new. We arrived on a Saturday night around 5:30. Service was adequate but I wasn't impressed with the presentation or the flavor of the food. I ordered the 3 Amigos. The steak was dry and bland. The shrimp was cooked well but could have used more seasoning. The chicken was dry, slightly overcooked but seasoned well. My boyfriend had the charcoal rotisserie chicken and was very disappointed because it was very very bland. Even the sauces that came with the dish couldn't rescue the chicken. read more

This is a delicious restaurant!!! I had never had Latin food before and we thought it would be good to try. Our waitress was very friendly and the restaurant was nice on the inside. The guacamole that was brought out was amazing. I had the lunch sampler which had a taco, tostada (a crispy tortilla with different ingredients on top), and a pupusa (a stuffed tortilla). I had a steak taco, a tostada with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, and a bean, pork, and cheese pupusa. It was all so good and even though I wasn't sure if I'd like the pupsa it was my favorite thing. For dessert we ordered the churros with ice cream. They even put them in a special glass for us. The churros were so good with the ice cream!! They were different from other churros I'd had and went so well with the ice cream. The price was a good deal considering all the food we got. My husband and I have been ordering from this place ever since we found a menu stuck on our door! The food is very flavorful and filling. We ordered a kid's meal for the first time today and it came with a good amount of fries. The cheese pupusa our almost-2-year-old had was a bit bland but the fries were amazing! The horchata was refreshing and the chicken empanada I had was extremely flavorful and juicy with just enough crisp on the outside. Our favorite dessert is the fried plaintains. We got the pupusa to share and they were great. I'd never had pupusa before. They come with a coleslaw and tomato sauce that you put on top of them. I got the bistec a lo pobre, which the menu claimed was an El Salvadoran favorite. I personally thought it was on the bland side. Once I discovered the salsa bar it was much better. My husband got the Mex Salvador. Now that was delicious from the bites I tried. I should have gotten what he had. Super yummy. read more

El Sabroson was such a nice surprise. This is a Latin American restaurant, not a Mexican restaurant although they do offer familiar Mexican favorites. We started with the pupusas, a thick corn tortilla stuffed with your choice of fillings. You receive three per order and can get three different fillings if you choose! They are an amazing value, tasty and served with a spicy jalapeno slaw and sauce. Go easy on it if you aren't used to spice. There is a kids menu and the childrens quesadilla with fries pleased the non adventurous one. I enjoyed the 1/4 rotisserie chicken, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It was served with two sides of sauce which were flavorful but overly salty, and I don't mind salt. I have seen a couple other reviews on menu items too salty so perhaps the kitchen has a heavy hand with the salt shaker here. For sides I chose the red beans and plantains, the beans were excellent and the plantains were amazing. I recently traveled to Miami and these were better than any I had there, just perfect, usually they are a mushy afterthought. First let me start by saying this is a Peruvian restaurant despite how it's tagged on Yelp and despite the two Mexican hats on the wall - lol. I confirmed with the server this restaurant is Peruvian. Plus their menu is Peruvian! Ha ha - OMG talking about confusion!....I wonder what Chef Robert would say (love Restaurant Impossible). I'm giving it two stars because as a Latina with a husband who is half Peruvian and who knows his food well the usual dish he orders "Lomo Salteado" was not so good. It lacked flavor and the white rice did too. I had the rotisserie 1/2 chicken with rice and beans and sweat fried plantain. It was just ok. The chicken had some flavor inside and out but meat was somewhat tough to get off the bone. The rice and bean mix not sure why they put soy sauce in it but it made the rice very wet and mushy. My teen ordered the chicken burrito with only lettuce rice and beans (preferred without pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream) and loved it. For an appetizer we ordered the usual "Yuca Frita a la wancaina" and really did NOT like it. The usual way to serve is with the yuca in the sauce. Here they served the sauce on the side. No big deal but when I dipped into it ugh...I do not know what was in the sauce but it was not good. Do not order it. The server was very nice and fast and the place looked and smelled clean. This is a cute Peruvian (I think) restaurant that's apart of a Spanish foods store. The service was very prompt and friendly. The Yelp reviews were way off. This is the worst tasting Mexican restaurant my family have ever ate at. How you can make Mexican food taste this bad is beyond me. Fajitas meat was overlooked and bland, fajita tortillas were soggy, side rice was not fully cooked and bland, and no cheese or sour cream was offered. Enchiladas were sitting a pool of grease, cheese wasn't melted, tasted "off", available only in chicken or cheese- you will not get beef even if you request it. Even the margaritas were bad (too sweet and no alcohol). Nice, sweet people but awful tasting food. I really wished the food was better based on all the other reviews and the homey feel of the restaurant but it was just awful and would not recommend it to anyone. read more
