So this place called Don Chido is one of my new favorite spots to go to in Williamsburg. First of all, the atmosphere is just on point. It's an open, clean space, and the staff is absolutely top-notch. We had the avocado/guacamole dish, and I haven't seen a setup like that since I was in Lisbon, Portugal. You have to mash the avocado into the sauce, as seen in this image, and mix it all together. The flavor is top-tier. We also had the cauliflower tacos and a shrimp/gambas al ajillo dish. Again, both were very good. There's also a paella dish that I saw someone else order, and it's probably large enough for two people to split. We'll definitely be going back within the next couple of weeks to try that as well. Everything we tried that first night forced me to want to go back within the month. Came here for the first time when visiting and meeting old friends. Public parking garage or street parking. Was able to get same day reservations. The vibe is nice, the food and drinks were good but kind of pricey. Service average. The Korean short rib bowl was good but unsure if worth the $25 price point. My friends enjoyed their Carne Asada bowls. The $17 marg "La Rosa Roja" was also tasty but unsure of the $17 price point. I would consider coming back but maybe not often. read more

So I hate giving reviews like this, because I'm a local. I live less than 3 blocks from this restaurant, and I really want them to succeed. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm likely to ever go back. Went there with my GF and mom on a Thursday night. Breaking iot down: 1. This place is SOOOOOPER loud. I mean, it would be loud enough with just a lot of people talking in a close space that apparently has no acoustic deadening, but for some reason the management thought there needed to be pounding trance music as well. Can't carry on a conversation. Can't hear the waitstaff. Stupidly loud. 2. The service was good. They coulda been a little faster with the initial greeting, but it was generally good overall. 3. The food is fine. Tasty and well-presented. It's pretty F-ing expensive for what you get, but it *is* an upscale tapas place, so there you go. Just know that going in: you're gonna spend a lot of $ for not a ton of food. If they could somehow fix the noise problem I might be back, but right now the downs outweigh the ups. Courtney served us four tapas: 1. guacamole with chips though the avocado looked like a whole one it wasn't, just peeled and torched it perhaps. 2. Empanadas, each the size of a silver dollar. 3. A bowl of mussels, really yummy sauce. 4. Elote corn Very expensive for four tapas so that's why the loss of a star. The dining room was well decorated and the men/women's restroom was painted in a bold blue with a colorful poster. If you want to dine here, be prepared for a high tab. We both agreed that the mussels were the best, the teeny empanadas came in second, and finally the guacamole came in third. Neither of us cared for the corn which tasted like frozen corn that was heated up. When we want to spend a lot, then we will return but the final bill of $100 for four tapas was a lot. My friend and I ordered drinks, the guacamole, and tacos. The drinks were pretty good and the tacos were flavorful, but they are on the smaller side. The guacamole was a whole roasted avocado sitting on top of a red sauce, which would've been fine if it wasn't lacking in flavor. After being there for almost 1.5 hours, we were told that the table needed to be cleared for the next guests. I tried finding anywhere on my reservation confirmation that there was a time limit but nothing. So I guess maybe not the spot to have family/friend gatherings where you might want to spend some time socializing. The atmosphere is very nice and the tacos were tasty. I just don't think I would go out of my way to go here based off of my overall experience. read more

Tried out the brick and mortar version of the popular food truck and it was very good! Highlights: kind and friendly service and staff. Chef/owner came and spoke to us as well as his wife and we felt very welcomed. Server was also very knowledgeable about menu items Saw some other reviews on here and tried some of the items others had suggested. Standouts for food: Avocado! Trust it is great! Empanadas-beef The steak taco! Enjoyed the lobster bao buns but not sure it was $37 worth of lobster. The potato's are good too and the fried chicken taco was also good, but just not as good as the other food. It's nicely decorated inside and has a cool vibe. Charming newer place in the heart of colonial Williamsburg serving Tapas and foods with a latin or international flare. As you would expect with Tapas, portions were small and bite sized. Two "Main" appetizers we had were empanadas-5 @ th size of a silver dollar in a delightful aji rojo velouté. The other was mussels- about 25 mussels with Spanish chorizo in an aji amarillo broth, & 3 grilled baguettes. I could have taken a bath it that sauce, and seriously considered asking for additional grilled baguettes to soak it up. Smaller dishes were Guacamole Tatemado-Fire-roasted avocado, aji amarillo velouté, salsa brunoise, micro cilantro, warm tortilla chips, and Street Corn-Street Corn - Fire-roasted corn, chili aioli, cotija, cilantro, chile de árbol sauce. Of all the dishes, that one was the only one we considered disappointing; flavor was lacking and could really have used a little lime or more or stronger chiles. Our server, Courtney, was a bundle of energy, cheerful, knowledgeable and helpful. The decor is modern and comfortable, but the size is small, so might want reservations at busy times and seasons. Given the area, it's not surprising that it's a bit pricey - our 4 dishes, no drinks, with tax and tip were almost $100. read more

Had lunch at Don Chido today and everything was fantastic . We started with the Street Corn and the Pan Con Tomate, both were excellent . We also tried the Carne Asada tacos and the Patatas con Langosta. The aji rojo sauce on the Carne Arsada tacos was amazing . The flavors of everything all blend so well together . This past weekend I tried their newly opened restaurant next to Amber Ox and Oishii. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant as you walk in is modern and fun. I thought the food was spectacular, however be aware that these are tapas-style small plates that can get quite pricey. Additionally, the service took a while, they often forgot about items I ordered, or they were sold out. That being said, I did go on opening weekend so those types of things are meant to happen. The drinks were delicious- I got the pineapple mezcal margarita and it blew me away, my husband loved the grapefruit jalapeño margarita. Found these guys outside of Alewerks in Williamsburg. The tacos weren't bad. They weren't great, but they weren't bad. We got the three taco deal, which was $17 for three. Two out of three were very gristly. None of them were very generously stuffed. The flavors were good. I could see paying $10 for these three tacos. Maybe $12. MAYBE. The bang for the buck just wasn't there. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the service was prompt. If you have the pleasure of going to Don Chico's brick and mortar site, there's a couple of must do's. One, you must get the fresh guacamole, the chips are thin and crispy and the guac is so fresh! You must also try the tacos. I had the steak frites and the Korean fried chicken taco and both were 10/10. Finally, the service and ambiance was incredible! I love the modern feel of the restaurant. Genuinely incredible experience top to bottom! We've been to their food truck before so knew it would be great, but it truly exceeded our expectations. We got the Guacamole Tatemado(such a different take on Guacamole and I can't stop thinking about it, it was *so* good!), Korean Short Rib furikake bowl, Korean Fried Chicken furikake bowl, Churro Moderno. The churros were some of the best I've ever had and the little chocolate ganache for dipping? Amazing. They're still waiting for the liquor license which is totally fine, because they have *so* many NA drink options that are delicious. We go the la bruma, never would've thought to put cayenne pepper in a drink, now I can't not! The atmosphere was amazing.
