Several distinct advantages; 1-they're open on Monday. 2-almost always seated rapidly. 3-fast service (they are always hustling!) 4-good food menu has expanded over the years, and the quality is consistently high. My only criticism is that you can't really get a high spice level; no fresh habaneros, not to mention Manzanos or Carolina reapers. read more

Although we were seated quickly, our server had an attitude stating of course they carried corn tacos pointing with her finger to the tacos section which I had already perused. No shrimp tacos there. She let out a big sigh as if I were being a burden. I looked some more then I saw it. I had enjoyed it last time so I ordered it. She kept smiling at my hubby and was patient with his order of a chicken fajita salad. Hmm, obviously she didn't realize that we have a joint account. I grew up in the southwest, but moved to east 30 years ago. Their torta brought me back 30 years to torta stands in Mexico. Their carne asada was so tender and the bread was crisp and not soggy. Amazing. We were a party of five and the food was so good that everyone could not stop talking about their food. Five stars. read more

We have enjoyed both dine-in and take away at Taco Mexicali. Their food is very good. Our favorite is the Texas Burrito, which contains steak, shrimp, chicken, and rice. It comes with a salad of lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole. Yummy!! We've also had tacos, including the chicken taco and the shrimp tacos. Very good too. Our guest really liked the steak taco salad she got at lunch. It was brimming with tender cuts of steak--so much so she had to take some home. Each table also receives chips and salsa while reviewing the menu. The dining room is both relaxed and festive. They have a bar area if you want to see a TV. Prices are fair, and the staff is friendly. Taco Mexicali is located in a shopping strip near Lightfoot that has free parking. They can get very busy in the evening, so bring your patience or order take away. read more

While visiting Williamsburg, I didn't think I would find any Mexican food worth a darn. I was quite wrong, this place is pretty darn good. It doesn't quite have the spice that we have in California but it's pretty dang tasty. I'm sure they have to tone it back a little for the locals. All and all I would definitely come back. Y'all this is our now favorite Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg! Williamsburg has a plethora of Mexican restaurants and since moving here we have tried at least 7 and this one is our favorite! Arriving at prime time on a Saturday night we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table but seeing the place full sent us a good sign that this was a popular spot and we could see lots of delicious food coming from the kitchen. Once seated our waiter was great and got us drink and yummy chips and salads and the famous white sauce. Their chips were yummy and some of the best white sauce I have had. Our food was quick to come from the kitchen and it was all delicious. My husband had a burrito and it was huge and filled to capacity. My chimichanga was nicely prepared and tasted good. My husband also got a Bahama mama and it was nice and strong. Can't wait to go back for another delicious Mexican meal! read more

7/12/21: As always, greeted quickly and warmly by the staff. I am not certain, but I think this may be an all male staff... kitchen included! Chips and salsa were being scooped as we walked Into the dining room and delivered properly to our table just as we sat down. I don't know why I even bothered looking at the menu, because I ordered the same thing I had just four days ago: The Carnitas! My husband opted for a combo of two enchiladas one beef; one cheese) with rice (no beans). My carnitas was the dinner portion this time (it was about 4:30). We don't normally eat dinner this early but we skipped lunch and were starving! These Carnitas are not only my favorite thing at Taco Mexicali, but among the stop five best things I've EVER EATEN. EVER. The staff seems happy to be at work and are very friendly with the patrons. It seemed like several tables were occupied by regulars, always a good sign! The chef could be heard singing while he cooked (and we were not in the tables close to the kitchen)... we LOVE hearing a happy kitchen! Pretty solid food. Nothing was "knock your socks off"- great, but nothing was bad, either. My San Jose burrito was a little on the dry side, but I dumped some of their salsa on it and it was pretty decent. My wife's burrito was likewise pretty good, but it wasn't quite as described in the menu. The margaritas were actually very tasty, and probably the best thing we had. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant. In the end, it's the type of place where I wouldn't object to returning, but I also wouldn't set out to visit on purpose again. read more

I'm visiting my grandma in Williamsburg, and she wanted to go out for lunch. This is her favorite restaurant. I totally understand why after today. The staff knew her when we came in and let us sit right near the front door so it was easy for us to get in-and-out. They knew her order so when she didn't remember what it was they were able to help us. She had these delicious chili rellanos. I ordered the tierra y mar dish which was absolutely fantastic! It was shrimp and scallops with a ton of different vegetables over rice with cheese sauce. The service was phenomenal. The staff checked on us multiple times, made sure our beverages were full the entire time, and were available for anything we needed. I'm super impressed and so glad I was able to try this place today! read more

It was my first time eating here. My husband loves this place. He and his friend eat lunch here often. Today we walked in and it felt like the AC was broken. It was pretty warm inside, but we assumed it was because it was 99° outside and their unit was just struggling to keep up with the hot weather. My husband ordered a jumbo jalapeño margarita! We shared it. Mostly, it was pretty tasty. I really like that the fruit garnish was cut fresh, I despise old fruit on the rim of my glass. Nice job with the garnish, may seem like a small thing, but it's a big thing to me And I love the cute little umbrella. I took mine with me. I got the cheese and steak enchiladas. It was a little bit plain I was kind of hoping for more, like maybe some lettuce or sour cream or beans or some thing but it was just a couple of enchiladas with steak chunks inside and melted cheese on top and some french fries with ketchup packets on top of the fries. Which made it feel not as authentic as I was hoping for. The service was OK. Our drinks were never empty, and we drink a lot of water. They prebussed our table several times. Attentive and professional. The music was fun, the atmosphere, had a good vibe to it. It wasn't too bright in there, the booths were comfy. Overall, I would definitely go back. I would've given this spot a 4 star if it wasn't for them not being able to cook tuna medium, twice. The tacos were decent food, would've been better if they were cooked medium as asked. Service was excellent, the deals and prices of everything is explosively good. Six tacos, nigh endless nachos and a margarita too big for one person with decent alcohol content without being overpowering came to about $36, which is exceptional for the value. Wow! This place is phenomenal! The flavors of everything from main dishes to the tortillas to even the beans is so rich and yummy I just can't say enough good stuff about them. Hubby had the fried chimichangas and I had the Texas quesadillas and both were excellent. It's affordable, and we took home leftovers due to the amount of food served. Pretty cool place. Was pretty busy during lunchtime but still had no seating issues. The waiting staff was friendly and provided great service. I had the asada fries and added chorizo to it. The wife had the fried chicken himichanga plate and said that it was very good. The asada fries were super good as well. For dessert, we shared a fried ice cream, which was good also. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars there as well. It is easily our new favorite go to Mexican restaurant. Went to Taco Mexicali because we had a coupon, but was pleasantly surprised. Good menu options, but not overwhelming. I got the Orange Crush, could have used a little more crushed ice, but was perfectly mixed. The taco salad was delicious. There was a slight wait, but it was a Friday night. We only waited for about 5-10 minutes before a table was available. There wasn't a huge waiting area so it was a little uncomfortable.
