I've never been to a restaurant and felt like I was at a family dinner, Azie was incredibly nice to us, letting us try some hotter salsas that were amazing. He even told us about their white sauce, that we mixed with our salsa selections that he told us to try and he was not wrong. The food was so amazing, I don't think my girlfriend and I said more than 2 words until we started to get full. I recommend this place over any other Mexican restaurant in the area! read more

To start, seating was quick, which we appreciated. Our waiter was okay, not particularly friendly, but efficient enough. We received chips and salsa shortly after sitting down, but the salsa was ice cold, actually frozen in the middle, definitely not fresh, and that set the tone for the rest of the meal. One of our friends ordered the birria tacos, and they looked nothing like the picture and unlike any birria tacos we've had before. They looked dry, and the consommé was so thick it resembled a sauce more than a broth. When our friend politely let the second server know that he and his daughter didn't like the tacos and asked to order something else, the response was shockingly rude. The server was visibly irritated and even slammed the plate down on another table, a completely unnecessary and unprofessional reaction. That said, the rest of our meals weren't bad. The fajitas were good, and the beans and rice were on point. Honestly, if it weren't for the rude service, we could have overlooked the inconsistencies in the food. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled left a bad impression, and we won't be returning. read more

Came here after a day at Busch Gardens. Lets just say all 8, adults, teens and kids, agreed they loved their meal. The portions are huge! They really emphasize on the seafood for a local Mexican restaurant. While I did check what time they closed on a weekday, they were cleaning up the place, but still served us and didn't rush us out the door. We had a great food experience here and I am sure it will be the go to place, post-BG, from now on. read more

Delicious. Not overly friendly wait staff, but the food is worth it. 7 Mares is Spanish for "7 Seas" and they live up to the name. Each time I go, I order something with shrimp in it and they are generous with the shrimp each and every time. The chips and salsa are. Nothing to write home about, but why fill your stomach with that stuff when you have a great nutritious meal about to be served. The margaritas have just right amount of tequila and tasty. They offer a margarita flight and that is colorful and fun to share. The ambiance is diner style and not fancy. I go back over and over because of the fresh quality shrimp dishes. read more

Saw 7 Mares opened so had to give it a try. The queso was pretty standard. Not bad but nothing special. The chips and salsa was also standard. For my entree, I ordered the El Sabor del Mar. I was a big fan of this dish. The fish was cooked perfectly. The shrimp and scallops were also very fresh. The seasoning had some kick but was very flavorful. Overall, I liked 7 Mares and would definitely go back in the future! They also seem to have a great all you can eat lunch deal! read more

Came here while visiting family that are locals. They raved about this place and now I understand why! We came for lunch and the portions are very generous and the prices were quite reasonable, which I feel like is a rare thing to says these days. I got the 7 Mares special and shared it with my toddler. Every bite was delicious. The food all comes with a generous portion of roasted veggies that I find a bit surprising for Mexican food (like carrots, broccoli, mushrooms etc). but wow they made for a flavor bomb. The chips and salsa were also a real delight. The service was certainly friendly and attentive. The ambiance was so so. Music was nice, but decor seemed a bit random. But honestly the food was so delicious, I don't really care what the place looked like. They have a special most nights too, so plan accordingly! Beware of online ordering!! I am so sad to have to write this, because I really loved 7 Mares until this terrible encounter. I had ordered online several times in the past, always for pick-up, with no issues. Every time I placed an online order, I received an email and text confirming my order and pick-up time. On May 23, I tried ordering delivery. With the delivery fee, my total came to $47.31. When i tried to click "submit" on my order, I got an error message, so I tried again, thinking it must be a problem with the site. Again, when I hit submit, I got an error message. This time, it said that my address was outside of the delivery zone. I did not get a text or email receipt/confirmation for either of these transactions, so I assumed that they did not go through. So about 30 minutes later I went ahead and placed another order for pick-up, which did not incur the $10 delivery fee. Once I hit "submit"- I received the regular text and email confirmations for my orders. Fast forward to pick-up, which was around 5:15pm. When I arrived, there were three orders sitting there with my name on them. Apparently my delivery orders went through on their end- though I did not get receipts from them AND THEY WERE NOT DELIVERED TO ME. So I told the person who was at the front desk that this was obviously a mistake/glitch with the website, because it was the same order placed 3 times, only two were for delivery- that was never delivered- and one for pick-up. I told him that I did not get a receipt/text/email for any of the first two $47.31 orders. The man (maybe 40's, gray man-bun hair) essentially told me too bad. I'd placed the orders and there was nothing I could do about it. I was FLABBERGASTED. This was the worst customer service I could have imagined experiencing. Their website had a glitch and I was charged nearly $100 for food THAT WASN'T EVEN DELIVERED. As I tried to ask what the next steps were- he literally just WALKED AWAY. I promise that I was kind and not pitching a fit. I just wanted this corrected. So- I ended up taking the $38.51 food bag that I did in fact order, and left the other two that were ordered via website glitch. I had to call my bank to contest two $47.31 charges. It's amazing to me that a small business can afford to treat customers this way. I will never return. read more

We arrived during lunch time and was seated immediately. The inside was small but there were plenty of tables. They were playing a soccer match on the TVs. We were offered chips and salsa while we were looking through the menu. I ordered the quesabirria tacos which came in three with a lime wedge, cucumber slices, radish slices, rice, beans, salsa and consume. These tacos were very good and I liked how it came with consume. Overall, the quesabirria is a must try! There are other options I want to come back to try and they have a whole list of drinks too! read more

Richmond Road is often called "Restaurant Road" by locals. 7 Mares sits near the beginning, between a pair of Thai restaurants. The site has ample parking and the interior is pleasantly decorated, clean, and brightly lit. We arrived just as lunch was kicking off, were greeted promptly with chips, salsa, and the glorified ranch dressing that is common in Hampton Roads Mexican restaurants. The server was prompt but not initially very friendly. We ordered a margarita and two lunch specials. The food came before the drink, so we said to just forget about the drink. Also, two side dishes were missing. They ended up giving us the margarita and the side dishes for free, since they messed those up. That was awesome! THAT is exactly the kind of customer service that I like to see: when you make a mistake, don't just make it right, but go over the top to say that you're sorry. The food was a mixed bag: the beans, rice, and salsa were all pretty bland. The rice was downright mushy. But the chicken, chorizo, and steak were all fantastic, well spiced, very flavorful, and nicely grilled. The burrito was topped with red onions, which I despise and were not specified in the menu. I scraped them off, but the flavor soaked into the burrito. All in all? The food was good, but not excellent. I wouldn't be in a hurry to return, but I would give them another chance. read more

Umm....not sure what else to say, but DELICIOUS!!!! Meals come with salsa chips and a creamy, tangy spicy sauce served when you sit at the table. Staff are very welcoming and serve you with a smile! I forgot to take pics of the meals we selected, but I ordered the steak Don Ruben and my husband ordered burrito fajitas. Both dishes were well worth the price. Also, ordered margarita presidential and sangria, which were also superb! I have high expectations with service and food quality....in other words, I'm not easily satisfied when it comes to eating out.
