Street tacos and mole meal.
daphne r.

I loved the mole! It's under "house specialties" on the menu and it definitely should be! It comes with guacamole salad, rice and tortillas. Ask for corn if you eat here- it's not what's used with their tacos. It is a crazy delicious sweet corn thing.

Hubbo enjoyed the food at this place so much that I have had to hear about it every single day since we went. I thought it was good.

The only problem here was what to order?! There were so many choices. Service was fast and friendly and cold drinks arrived in the blink of an eye. Salsa and chips were also immediate and devoured. Salsa was mild cantina style and more smooth than chunky. We decided on the carne asada street tacos and the Azteca burrito. The flour tacos were filled with onions, fresh cilantro and the seasoned meat. The meat was in small pieces and had me a little skeptical initially but they were seasoned well. The sauce that was served with the dish delivered the heat in a sweet tangy base. Beans and rice were added as a side and did not disappoint. The burrito was stuffed and full of flavor with fresh ingredients :rice, beans, seasoned steak and chicken, pico de fallo sauce and topped with fresh avocado. Our Arnold Palmers were even refilled without asking. The service was exceptionally fast and friendly. The atmosphere was casual with booths, tables and patio seating and clean. Didn't let the location behind a hotel fool you! Vamamos a La Tolteco rápidamente!

This is more of a 3.5 star (Yelp give us a half star option please!) but I'll give you a breakdown of why. Food-wise- Loved the Chile rellano- not fried but literally just cheese in a pepper. It was the only time I have seen it made like this but it was delicious. The chicken enchiladas with mole sauce was good. I thought this was done well. Burrito-my husband had was average. He wouldn't order it again. The chips were over-cooked but they did have the famous white sauce. Was not impressed with the size of the cheese-dip. $4 for a little cup is a little ridiculous. Service was also off. Had to ask two times to get the cheese dip we had ordered for an appetizer and finally got with our meal. I'm not rushing back as there are other Mexican restaurants in the area to still try out.

I'm a Mexican American visiting from Los Angeles, CA so my expectations for Mexican food were high. This place met my expectations and I thought everything was delicious. I love the atmosphere in the restaurant as well

We ate here on the evening of August 29,2023, the food was very good and served quickly. The service was very efficient even when we asked for additional tomatoes and lettuce for the tacos. The ambiance is a hodgepodge of all things from Central America and kind of cluttered but still efficient and workable. Overall this is a good safe place to eat with a full menu and good staff.

The Xango-banana cheescake in a fried tortilla shell, so yummy!

This is me and my husband's go to spot for Mexican food in Williamsburg. I love the cilantro in the salsa they make that comes out with the chips. The queso app is yummy, too, I'd highly recommend it. The cheese enchiladas don't skimp on the cheese and the red sauce they put on top is delicious and tasted fresh. Overall a great meal, but I might skip the veggie "chalupa" it was basically a tostada with lettuce, tomatoes and guac on top and it got soggy pretty quick. The xango dessert was a really nice finish. The staff was lovely too, thank you all for another great meal.

Loved everything about my combo dinner. I ordered a crispy taco and an enchilada. Both were delicious. I am celebrating this week, so I also got a Patron margarita. It was perfect. The service was good, and the restaurant had a warm and welcoming feel.

I was a regular here twenty years ago, but with a new job and moving out of town, it's been a minute. But it's the second night of Dia de los Muertos, and it's cold and wet and dark, and I wanted Mexican food. Walking through the door was like coming home. The same décor, the same music, the same wonderful people running the place- I swear they've hardly changed a bit. And the same amazing food. These guys have, hands down, some of the best coffee in Williamsburg. I got a cup, and mi Esposa got a hot tea- regular old Lipton, but still hot and good. The tortilla chips -made in-house, as is the thin yet delicious salsa- were warm and crispy with just a hint of salt. They disappear pretty quickly! Mi Corazon got the Burrito Azteca. It is enormous! Stuffed with grilled meat, beans, and rice, it comes with a generous portion of pico de gallo, and is topped with most of an avocado. I got the Burritos Bravo. This is two burritos stuffed with beef chiles rellenos, served with refritos and rice, and covered with red enchilada sauce and cheese sauce. I immediately set one aside for lunch tomorrow. I had too, or I would 100% have eaten the whole plate and licked it clean, and been all fat and sassy. They have a good selection of desserts, and at one time I was too familiar with them all. Which is why my other burrito is in a box despite my burning desire to scarf it down. For all of this? $32.66 before tip, and that includes the justly infamous meals tax Williamsburg uses to fleece locals and tourists alike. You cannot get a better Mexican meal in Williamsburg than at La Tolteca. I've said so since 1991, and I'm delighted to see that it's still absolutely verdad.

The main dishes were definitely underseasoned, which was disappointing (veggie fajita. Maybe if I got meat it would have been better but I was on a Daniel fast). That said, the homemade hot salsa absolutely slapped. Easily the highlight of the meal. It carried a lot of the experience. I would come back for the atmosphere, the salsa, and the service. If the kitchen turns the seasoning up just a bit, this place could be a regular stop when we are in town.

It's a great spot to have a meal before or after going to either of those entertainment venues. The restaurant is large with a mixture of tables and booths. The staff are friendly and efficient. They even have a robot that transports the food from the kitchen to your table. It's very cute. Their menu has a lot of options, and we enjoyed our selections. I had the Chicken Fajita Salad. It came with three nice size pieces of lightly seasoned chicken breasts, lettuces, cheese, tomatoes, and avocados. The portion was large, and I took about one-third of it home. My husband likes combo plates, so he got one that had refined beans, rice, and three different enchiladas. While it too was a large portion, he devoured it and it raves about the quality of the food. As with other Mexican restaurants , they bring complimentary chips and salsa to the table. For drinks, I had the red sangria, which was light. He had the horchata, which he rated ok. Free parking is available outside the restaurant.
