Pretty cool spot. Yes it may be touristy when the buses drop off the crowd but come by late Monday night, or a quiet Tuesday afternoon and you feel transported to the past. Some guy playing guitar in the corner, cajoling patrons into dancing. This is my go-to place when I am in Miami. Today I had to Cuban sandwich AKA The Pub special. It's the bomb. I also had fried yuca which you must try, followed up by an espresso Cafe Con Leche and a Diet Coke. The Dennis here great weather you ordered lechon rice and beans steak. So many great cuban places in calle 8 but this isnt one of them. Came for the first time today, mind you being a Tuesday which is slow, our food took forever to get served. Once we got our food, it was cold. Not even warm, cold! Most of our party ordered Pan con bistec, literally was bread with a sliver of bistec. It was all bread and no meat, it was filled with raw onions which ive never had with this kind of sandwich and the tomatoes were so cold that probably is the reason sandwich got cold fast. The mojito was okay, more lime juice with sugar, and for $10 not worth it. Only good thing here was the mariquitas and the fries which we had to order a fresh side of them since ours came cold with the sandwiches as if they were sitting out for a while. I want to be fair when I'd review a restaurant, I have been leaving in South Florida for about 40 years in the heart of the Little Habana, around authentic Cuban cuisine, but my experience was not what I was expecting, it took more Thant 5 minutes for the waiter to notice us, when he acknowledged our presence he asked to give him a minute, it turn out several minutes. Any way want to give them a chance finally took the drink orders. Beers came fast but the mojito took some time, he prepared himself, horrible taste !! Complaint and got another from another server, this was seems to have half a bottle of cheap rum! Ordered food nothing especial with the food or the flavors. Average kitchen. Happily surprised how good the Cuban food was here. Walked after passing a few places that were packed. El Pub was not that crowded at 3 PM but by the time we left it was full both inside and outside. Atmosphere would have benefited with some live music especially on a Saturday. But a good sign were all the Latinos including myself filling and enjoying themselves at the tables. Our table of 4 dove into the delicious special appetizer for two which daily fed 4+. Fried platano chips, pork and chicken chiccarones were the right level of crunch, nice garlic mojo plus a green chimicurri dipping sauce were vibrant and yummy. Then my main course was a perfectly spiced medium skirt steak with Morro black beans and rice plus boiled yucca and sautéed onions, all so good. Everyone was happy at the table enjoying Lechon asado, a Cuban sandwich that was perfect, and lamb shank osso bucco that made our taste buds sing. Finished off my meal with a cafe con leche of the gods and we all shared a perfect slightly sweet flan like cake that I would order again. Looking forward to going back read more

Cute place to sit outside and have a bite. 3 stars because the food was good but not great and the service was... hmmmmm trying to find the best word..slooooooooow., not the food, but no one greeted us as we stood there waiting to be seated and there was no sign advising us to "seat ourselves" so, after several minutes and several servers zipping by- we just grabbed a table for ourselves outside. And, yes it took just as long for someone to come to our table to order as well. Aside all that- the food was good and the cafe con leche was actually quite tasty. The food was great and reasonably priced, but they dont allow split or separate cheques for some reason even though it is 2022 and they obviously have the capability. Also I left a little souvenir behind and when i went back to retrieve it 30 seconds later it was gone and apparently it was never there. This place serves dolphin..... so sad and gross.. I tried their empanadas and not good.

So I go to the bathroom to urinate and i wash my hands right before i sat down to order my food when i observed a male employee exit the bathroom and not wash his hands after he finished urinating. As i exit the bathroom after the employee, he goes behind the sandwich counter and grabs a long bread without gloves and begins preparing a sandwich for someone. I wanted to tell someone but felt so uncomfortable i just decided to leave the place. Every restaurant bathroom have the resources for employees to wash their hands. Management should train employees to wash their hands after bathroom usage Very disappointed. Just look for the big rooster statues outside their establishment. So we stopped in on a Tuesday we ordered the special of carne asada and arroz morro con maduros she ordered the roasted chicken and rice and it was delicious along with 2 empanadas, 2 presidents, 1 cafe con leche and 1 colada and a couple glasses of water all for $43.00 we left stuffed!!! This place is located right in the middle of Little Havana and it really gives you a small taste of the Cuban culture in the city. There is great food, great music, and also great service. We went with a group of 8 to eat at night before we went back to our hotels and we wanted a quick meal, but also good food. We ordered our food and the server got our drinks and in less than 5 minutes she brought it to our table. When she got back, we ordered our food and listened to the live music that was at the restaurant. The food got to our table after a while and everything we got was exquisite! It's painful and difficult to write this review. I celebrated my graduation from UM with my family here at El Pub. My grandfather and father were personal friends of the owner since his early restaurateur days in Cuba. My family orderedThanksgiving turkeys and Christmas pigs for years from this family operated restaurant. It's a shame that the people around the owner of this one time excellent restaurant would let it waste away the way they have. There was once great pride in what is a Little Havana landmark. At least clean the place and wipe the grease smeared menus. If you ate here before 2005, or at El Exquisito when it was owned by the original owner, it's painful to walk into El Pub and experience what it has become. This restaurant represents the Little Havana community and Cuban-American culture to many tourists. Someone please do something! read more

I think the waitress saw gringas and wanted nothing to do with us. Imagine her shock when this gringa can speak and understand spanish. All we wanted was a quick meal and get back to work, she delayed us. Food was ok. Best thing was the buttered cuban bread, but it's hard not to mess that up. This was my first time to Miami, so I'm sure I engaged in many touristy activities, but we randomly drove to Little Havana without any kind of plan. However, when I saw a six foot tall statue of a chicken out front of this place, I figured this place had to be pretty legit. Nothin' fancy, just a straight-up locals kind of place where you can get a great cafe con leche and sandwich for less than ten bucks. Great people watching (most are over 65) if you sit at the counter, and you can watch the guy make sandwiches all day long right in front of you. We ordered pretty standard Cuban fare, and it was just as I expected: local, authentic, simple, and delicious. El Pub, at 1548 SW 8th st is hands-down disgusting. like, without a doubt. there are few restaurants in the world that i'd say that i would absolutely never set foot in again, and this is one of them. we ordered: arroz con pollo (that came with a far-grosser-than-campbells chicken noodle soup [noodles were beyond mushy and gelatenous, broth was sickeningly salty]) - the chicken was just plain awful and the rice was cold, hard, greasy and flat-out embarrassing. cubano: it was ok. it certainly wasn't so great, but it was far better than anything else we had. lamb stew: i didn't try it but my friend said it was awful as well. and this guy eats lamb like no one i've ever seen. food trucks, food carts, 5* restaurants....he eats it anywhere. and couldnt eat it here. tamale: somehow they managed to put grease into this as well. and it was served, inexplicably, with the insides of their "maximum cubano" sandwich (or whatever they call their cubano with salami and pepperoni) laid out next to it. looked as if the "chef" put the meat, cheese, and pickles down on the tamale plate as he went to look for a loaf of bread, only when he returned with the bread for his meat, our waitress had taken the plate to our table, leaving poor "chef" without all the meat he had just sliced up and laid out in a line for his bread.... just an awful dining experience. read more

Horrible service! The hostess did not acknowledge we there waiting for Over 10 minutes even though this place was empty. We had two children and she asked if we are seating for 2. Obviously if we have 2 kids we are seating for 4. After sitting down It took them more then 10 minutes to even bring water, 2 glasses of water not 4. Unfriendly service. What a great choice. The waitress was so friendly, the atmosphere so unique, and the customers so local. I had the busted palomillo and my guest each samples traditional Cuban faire. We loved the walk up window that was dishing espresso, Cuban coffees, and $1 cigars.
