More trips to El Pastor and they're just excellent. We've found that we prefer the carne asada and chorizo tacos. While the el pastor are good, they still aren't what you get in Mexico. Their pozole is also excellent. I recommend just getting a "cup", it's the size of a kitchen mixing bowl. A bowl may very well fill a cattle trough. More trips has tempered my excitement. Four stars is more appropriate. read more

El pastor serves up such good food that I had to write about it. This little taqueria popped up seemingly out of nowhere and upon noticing they served tacos al pastor, I had to immediately try. I was surprised by how inexpensive their taco offerings are. Split into two categories based on pricing (seafood and basically every other meat), I could easily imagine myself ordering a dozen of these just for myself. I opted to sample other areas of the menu instead, and added a gordita along with a chimichanga to a trio of al pastor, chorizo, and lengua tacos. Wow, these tacos were stuffed to the brim despite the modest price tag. And each respective taco meat brought something new to the table. I could even make out a bit of pineapple in the al pastor. Both the chimichanga and the gordita were amazing in their own right as well. The point is, if you're craving tacos anywhere near Eagle River, you owe it to yourself to come here. I'll definitely be making this spot a part of my regular rotation. read more

Fresh, fast, tasty Mexican food in Eagle River. We've gotten take out here twice. I've had all of their street tacos and my wife loves their burritos. Their street tacos are real, on the roadside in Mexico style tacos. They are small, inexpensive and loaded with your choice of meat with a little onion and cilantro. Simple and delicious. I love real street tacos because I'm all about the protein and the corn tortillas are simple and the whole dish isn't a greasy melty cheesy mess that leaves you feeling gross afterwards. It may not be fair to do this review right after returning from Mexico. We weren't ready to let go of the food yet so we tried this place that we didn't even know was there! I love the inside of this place, great vibe and setup. The gal helping us was...well, let's just say she could have been warmer, it seemed like the last place on earth she wanted to be. We ordered the street tacos and nachos. They were just OK. The shrimp one had what tasted like thousand island dressing...weird. The beans seemed a bit watery and the rice was fine. The nachos weren't completely melted so that was a little off too. I think I need to go back and order something different to give this another try. Oh, where do I start! The service was horrible! The man who took our order couldn't hear us due to him wear his AirPods while trying to take our oder. Then we had to pay twice because he got our order wrong. We ended up having to pay two service charge (6% total) for using a debit card. Not only that but the servers and cooks constantly staring at us while preparing our second order and after we received it, making us very uncomfortable while we were eating. The food was subpar. It tasted like something you could microwaved at home, cheap and on a budget. The Yelp reviews do not match the service and food. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a rundown hotel bar. I recently discovered this restaurant so I've only eaten a few things on the menu but what I have eaten was absolutely delicious. The Barbacoa was amazing. Very tender beef and the seasoning was complex and so flavorful. The food came out quickly, the prices are great, portions sizes are perfect, and the staff is very nice. Most authentic street taco in AK! Absolutely Delicious and the best taco prices as well. We tried El pastor, carne asada, chicken, carnitas, shrimp and halibut. We would definitely get el pastor, carne asada and halibut again as top choices. Chicken and shrimp were similar to other Mexican places. The sauce is really good that comes on the tacos to. This is hands down the best Mexican food in Alaska. I first went two weeks ago and I've been back 3 times since! I'm absolutely in love with the Al Pastor street tacos but I've been trying 1-2 different taco flavors each time I go. I even had Lengua tacos (cow tongue) which I never ever thought I would try but they were fantastic! The halibut tacos are my second favorite, followed by the carne asada which is soooo tender and delicious. Seriously check this place out. read more

The el pastor tacos were ok seems like they had a different take on them kinda sweet for me. The chorizo tacos were dry and lacked flavor. The halibut tacos were awesome saving grace of the dish. Everything is al a crate. The rice and beans were to be diaries tasted caned and box rice. The salsa that was suppose to be hot was ok not hot though. I might go back but doubt it. read more

When we walked in the place smelled like marijuana. We were greeted by an unenthusiastic cashier. I first noticed they no longer have halibut or salmon on the menu. Then I asked if the guacamole was made fresh and he said he didn't know and didn't offer to ask even though we were the only one in line and only one table in the restaurant was taken. I ended up with the shrimp tacos and the shell was really good and the shrimp was ok. My husband had the barbacoa tacos and really enjoyed them.
