Carnaza tacos all fat and no brisket.

I normally frequent the Serranos on Northern Lights, but moved to a different part of town so I thought the Tudor location would be the same quality. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the carnaza tacos, it was supposed to be brisket and all I got was huge chunks of fat. i ate the first taco, with confusion, the 2nd I picked out the fat and gave it to my husband, but by the 3rd taco, I was like what is wrong with this? it too was all fat. Huge disappointment for $25. What a waste. The tacos were tiny and there was no rice or beans. I will not be returning.

This is Serrano's second location (with a third location in the works, downtown). This location is a relaxed vibe in comparison. It's smaller than I imagined inside, and while the bar is captivating, the Frida mural is the definite highlight of this space. This Tudor location is noticeably male run while their midtown location is run mostly by females. Thankfully service was still attentive. Our orders came out fast and we were very happy with everything. We ordered their appetizer egg rolls, rib eye tacos, and their rice bowl. Lots of leftovers. My husband missed the mason jars we've grown to associate with Serrano's. We understand it was Cinco, and the plastic cups probably help with the large volume of drinks being purchased. Serrano's Horchata was A1 and both their cucumber and mango margaritas were perfection. They had a decent crowd but nothing like the madness their midtown location experiences on this holiday. I was happy I made the choice to come here. I look forward to returning.

This was my first time here. Considering the menu options.. it's "Higher" end mexican cuisine with smaller portions compared to other mexican restos and the alcoholic cocktails on the menu are sooo small and pricey! The customer service was not great, my table of 5 seemed constantly rushed to pay or wanting to take our plates when we weren't finished, still nibbling and sipping our drinks trying to enjoy our dinner. Was also told the kitchen is closing and if we wanted to order anything else already.. 2 hours early?? Thus made us look at the time and even around us. We weren't the only customers around, there were plenty inside and outdoors with us. Not impressed at all. Should i give another try?

This is a local take on "fast casual" (Qdoba/Chipotle/etc) Mexican fare, it's largely pretty good. My main beef(groan) is the lack of almost anything green (veggies) with this food. Just beans and rice. Where's the guac? The roasted chiles? Salsa fresca? Cabbage? The interior in here is bright and clean, almost too so. I gives it kind of a sterile appearance. The best thing about the Serrano's locations is their sauces. There are lots to choose from, and the hot sauces are actually hot. Too many Mexican places have two sauces: a chunky red salsa out of a can and a chunky red salsa out of can that has red pepper flakes added to it. (the "hot" one) Here, there are lots of sauces too chose from, of various colors and heat levels. Personally, I think these places are far superior than the local "King" chain. But I think I might be in the minority?

They have renovated the interior dining area from the last time I visited. A bar was added, big screen TVs, large air work, etc. The staff was friendly but lacked service towards the end. My dish was difficult to finish, too salty and hard to digest. The menu price was too much averaging around $15+. Once we were done, we waited too long for our ticket. Employees didn't recognize that we have been waiting and so I had to go up to pay. While paying the employee seemed bothered by me coming up to pay. Again, the service was good then it faded away towards the end.

Serrano burrito with shredded chicken and insanely good refried beans and rice!!

Serrano's on Tudor is AMAZEBALLS!! Holy smokes man. See those refried beans? Yeah. They aren't your typical bullshit side of beans. These bad babies SLAP!! I dunno if they accidentally dropped a vat of bacon grease up in there or what but that flavor was incredible!! And the Serrano burrito was stupid good too. Did I mention they have a freaking drive thru??? Well they do. Not only was the lady at the window super nice, every single person in the kitchen was masked up properly and I watched them wash their hands multiple times. Hate to throw em under the bus but I don't think I'll be going back to Taco King any time soon!! Lol Now be smart and just go get Serrano's for dinner. Its local and I bet they could use the business and I 100% know your belly could use some tacos and refried beans!! P.S. They have beer on tap too!!

Avocado Tomato salad and eggrolls w/ salsas and hibiscus drink

This is a low key fast casual restaurant. The menu is pretty extensive with a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, tacos, burritos and more. You order at the counter, get a number and your drink or cup, then get salsas and find a place to sit I was here on a Friday night around 6pm and four of the booths were full. Gave me time to look over the menu, as they were busy cleaning. Took my order quickly once I got their attention. I got the southwest eggrolls plus the avocado and tomato salad with carne asada. Took a good 10 minutes to come out, which surprised me for a salad and app at a quiet time, but the eggrolls ate freshly fried so that takes some time. Salsa bar needed cleaning. They had seven different salsas and jalapeños. The verde was standard with medium heat, the chipotle had a nice smoky flavor with medium heat, the hot had some strong heat. They were all good, better than usual food service salsas. Hibiscus lemonade was a nice choice on a warm day in the evening when you don't want caffeine, not too sweet but not super dry like some hibiscus drinks. Eggrolls has a great creamy filling of chicken, beans and corn. The wrappping is too thick though, felt like eating a bread roll. Salad had good fresh lettuce and avocado. Surprisingly good tomatoes for Alaska, and a generous amount of carne asada. The steak was cold, it would be more tasty if it was warm. While the food is not four star, the service added a star since they were so helpful. They gave me a box (not styrofoam!) and a bag and utensils for my leftovers, plus I was able to get some salsas in to go containers. Great service. A good value for a quick casual fresh meal.

The food here is great, I especially love that this location has a drive thru. Also the drinks here are amazing!

I would describe the interior as "spartan" and not really cosy. It didn't have that eclectic colourful look common to many Mexican restaurants, and nor were they playing the Mexican kind of music either. Tables and chairs were plain wood. Their large parking lot was full, however when we got inside, only one other table was occupied, so I'm not sure who was using their parking lot, but it wasn't diners. It was brightly lit though, and we got a table near the window so I could look outside. Considering only two tables were occupied, it took an inordinately long time for someone to come and take our order. I ordered the Southwest Tacos (crispy) and asked for ground beef, these were $5, I wasn't really sure how many would be served, and assumed possibly two? I also order the Parmesan cilantro fries to be my side. Husband got the Serrano's Burrito with carnitas, this came with rice and beans. We also ordered chips and salsa which was served immediately. There were lots of chips, 3 salsas and pico de gallo. The food came out very quickly, and our server was very nice. I got 1 taco (had I known I was only getting 1, I'd have paid extra to get 2) Ok, the positive - the fries were plentiful, and nice and crispy, but I was disappointed that the Parmesan was the kind out of a jar, that you shake on. I had built myself up to melted grated Parmesan, and I didn't find much cilantro either, and I love cilantro. Fortunately there was plenty in the salsa, and so I just dipped my fries in that. My taco was disappointing. The ground beef was bland, lacked seasonings, and the taco was just not very filled with things. He loved his Burrito, pronounced it delicious. I tried his rice and beans. The rice was decent, but the beans were too smooth and homogenous for my taste - I like them to have some lumpy bits of bean in. Another plus - they were playing really good music. Totally my taste (but not my husbands) as I like more modern music. Current tunes, stuff I'd have on my playlist in my car, to torture my husband with, so i liked that. Good. Service, after initially waiting a while, and food came out fast after we ordered + decent music. Food could be improved though.

We took it back to our Airbnb and we repurposed and used the leftover food into new dishes for breakfast the next day. Was this the best Mexican food ever.... well no, but it wasn't horrible. I got the Chile Verde Burrito and it was good. I think that the dishes were basic and there was nothing that took it over the top. Nothing special, no different seasoning. Even though we didn't finish the food, we ordered dessert and shared. The flan.....OMG! Yes, yes, yes! I would go back for the flan. It tasted like it had coconut, but when we asked they said that it didn't. Hmmm, not a bad thing that it tasted like coconut in my world, it just elevated the taste.

It tasted like mold. I ordered another tamale ala carte ATI make up for it. My partner had the chicken suizas and I thought they were good. He thought the chicken tasted like it was precooked and reheated like at another local chain (TK) so he was a little disappointed. I thought it was tasty... I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.

The decor works really well, but I found the branding a bit confusing. The menu leans heavily on Mexican flavors, but the restaurant doesn't really call itself a Mexican place, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. On my first visit, I had the duck confit tacos with an Eddie's Tropical drink. The tacos were amazing, tender and full of flavor, and the drink was perfectly balanced. On my second visit, I got the rockfish tacos. They were tasty but way too spicy for me, which took away from the flavor. We also tried guacamole and queso fundido on both visits. The guac was solid, nothing fancy but good. The queso fundido is super cheesy and greasy, and once it cools down, it's tricky to eat. I've learned my lesson there. Service was mixed. The first visit, our server was okay. The second time, the server was excellent, very friendly and attentive. Both visits we had reservations and were seated right away, even during tourist season, which was a nice surprise. Overall, Tequila 61 is a beautiful spot with some standout dishes. The duck confit tacos are a must-try. Some dishes could use a little work, but the atmosphere, drinks, and high-end feel make it worth a visit. Just watch out for the spice and maybe share the queso fundido with a few friends.
