Not impressed. The decor is nice and the service is prompt and polite. The reason for the the 2 stars is the food isn't authentic nor very good. Chips they serve are cold. Salsa is bland and tasteless. I ordered the old fashioned tacos. Horrible. Beef has no flavor and the tacos fall apart with one bite. I would not recommend this pace nor eat here again. read more

Sooooooo when businesses were finally able to open up after Covid-19, my husband and I can't to El Chico. The food was not good. The manager, Danny, reached out, apologized and gave us complementary dinners. We went back today and I have to say the food was EXCELLENT. The server, Evan, was very attentive as well. Mine and my husband's favorite place for Mexican food. We LOVE the staff (Marcia, Bridgette, Carla, and so many more). Food is excellent and portions are large for a great price. We always have leftovers for the next day. Love the atmosphere. Also, with the pandemic restrictions, El Chico's staff are taking every precaution to ensure food safety and prevent transmission of the virus. We eat here usually once every week, and we drive 30 minutes to get there. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! read more

Huge shout out to the manager and staff who helped make my daughters graduation celebration special yesterday! We ordered a lot of tacos, chips and salsa and margaritas for takeout and they went above and beyond! The food and magaritas were delicious and the manager came out to congratulate my daughter and gave her a piece of cheesecake! I don't know, the food just tasted weird. I am a big fan of mexican food, but the five enchiladas plate i ordered was just not good. Excellent food and service. My wife and I ask to sit in the bar area, because the bar manager is awesome. She is aware of everything that is going on in her world. What does that mean to you as a guest? Fast and accurate service. The food is excellent, we haven't had a bad meal yet. Just moved out to the Melbourne area and saw this place on my way to work, and thought eventually I'd give it a try. Placed an order for pick up, I showed up and can't say I was greeted, instead dealt with a grumpy older hispanic lady named Nancy which told me to go to the bar to pick up my food. Showed up to the bar and had the bar tender Allison look at me and continued working, no greeting, nothing! Eventually I walked over in front of the register to get her attention to pick up my food. She finally acknowledges me and says she'll go check on my food but instead proceeds to go check on an older gentlemen and asked him if he wanted another drink and then makes his drink. She finally goes and checks on my order a couple minutes later and brings me my food and says it was just made. I get home 5 minutes later to soggy and extremely salty nacho chips with some kind of grade school cafeteria ground beef. My wife got the chicken fajitas quesdilla to which she said her food was really salty as well. I only finished half of my food due to being too salty. Wish the customer service was better and they'd lay off the salt. On a positive note, they give you a huge bag of chips and salsa, but chips are salty as well. If you'd rather pay less, get better tasting less salty food, and better customer service, I'd recommend going down the street and go to Tijuana Flats. read more

We popped in on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty busy but we were seated right away. The Hostess is a daper older gentleman, cufflinks and all. Well it's Tex Mex. They dump chili on everything. Which would be awesome if I was eating french fries - but I was attempting to eat Mexican food. So asked them to hold the chili. The chips were good - and fresh - nice change of pace from the restaurants round here. The salsa was pretty good and tasted fresh. My love got a beef & bean burrito & chicken taco. They poured cheese w/ a Z on the burrito - different to say the least. I ordered a cheese enchilada (TINY) and a chicken taco. Beware: the cheese enchilada has chunks of onions in it, even though I ordered it w/ no onions - maybe a pre-mix? It had some weird sauce on it, which was not complimentary. The chicken in our tacos was pretty dang good, but the shells - terrible, they were the crappy ones you buy at the grocery store. If they don't want to do them the right way that's fine - but maybe just do them soft taco style - that woulda been tasty. We each had a Giganto Margarita - It. Was. BIG!!! Our server Matt was pretty much awesome. He knows his shiz and is on it - all of it. Definitely an "above & beyond" service attitude. We showed up at El Chico Cafe after a failed attempt to first go to El INDIO MEXICAN RESTAURANT. We showed up at EL Indio Mexican Restaurant at 930pm and they said that they closed the kitchen early because they were slow. Anyways, back to El Chico... We had made some calls to other Mexican restaurants and luckily this place was open till 11 pm on Saturday. When we showed up it was approximately 30 minutes before closing and they happily served us. Our waitress , Carla, was very courteous, peppy, and very hospitable. She took care of us really well and makes this restaurant look awesome. The food was amazing and had a wide selection for both vegetarians and meat eaters as well. The Chili con Queso with the chips was a great appetizer and I had Cheese Enchiladas topped with chili con queso melted cheese. Delicious! Coming in, it *seemed* like a pretty decent place. The decor looked pretty good and the staff was generally attentive. It's one of those tex-mex places where they bring you chips and salsa to get things going, and that was the first clue of what was to come: The salsa was barely salsa, let alone soup. If you weren't careful, it might actually stay on your chip. Our waiter, who was new, claimed that this situation would improve the longer it sat. The manager caught wind of this and brought us some more salsa that he'd "found in the back" that was somewhat better. And then the waiter brought more. And then more. Did not actually need that much salsa, but okay. When our entrees arrived, they were pretty sub-par. The meats were tough, and the sauces were weirdly textured affairs, and there was a hair in my sour cream which I discovered a fair bit too late for comfort. On the whole, one could do a whole lot better. I'm sure they also, can do better, but at least on the night we went, they sure weren't. I don't plan on ever going back. read more

My son ordered the hildrsns chicken taco and it was a little too spicy for him (4 years old) so he mostly at my chips and guacamole and I didn't even ask for anything and she made him a too go beef taco for school tomorrow. This is one of our favorite places to grab a drink and appetizer before a movie. It's within walking distance of our favorite movie theater too. We both love their cheese dip and salsa to start off with. On top of that we usually order the mixed fajitas to split which leaves us leaving stuffed with left overs. We also like to take advantage of their happy hour prices. My favorite drinks are the frozen mango and raspberry margaritas. Delicious! The service has always great so we keep coming back. It is ok, you can tell it is a franchise and not independent. Salsa was very plain and tomato pasty. Usually that is one of favorite things to eat a Mexican restaurant. Burrito had overcooked ground beef with more iceberg lettuce than flavor. Our server was very good and attentive but even she couldn't fix the food. The deserts are awesome. I am usually very excited to go here! We always get the tabletop guacamole which we did not get today. We each ordered the chicken fajita salad and we were very disappointed. There was a lot of iceberg lettuce which is always a disappointment. There were six slices of chicken breast- it seems like it wasn't even half a chicken breast. There was very little cheese/tomatoes - just tons of lettuce. We always have good service there but today there was not. Our five friends arrived a little later than we did had no silverware. My husband had to go up and get it because we asked for it and they never brought it even though their food had been delivered. We told the waitress upfront we needed our check quickly because we had to go early-but yet we had to wait extra long for it because she had to keep checking. I'm not giving up on El Chico's...we've had great experiences before but today was not their best day! read more

Only good thing I can say is it wasn't crowded. I have always wanted to try Chico's and finally got the chance to do so today. I will say I will never be coming back. When we first got there nobody greeted us at hostess desk for around five minutes, eventually the hostess came and took us to our seats. On the hostess's counter there was a sign that said "if your server doesn't show you the desert tray you get one free". After waiting another 10 minutes our server finally came to ask what we wanted to drink (again it was not crowded at all) and brought us the saltiest chips I've ever had. Some time later we order our food and wait some more. By the time the food came our drinks were long gone and not refilled. I ordered the chimichanga and it was not what I was expecting. It had almost no chicken and was small for what I expect from Mexican restaurants. After we finished our food we waited another 20 or so for our waiter to come back and give us our first refill on water (which never came). While waiting I remembered the desert promise they had at the hostess desk. When she came back I asked her about it and she said "I usually bring the desert tray with the check so technically you can't get anything" at that point I was ready to leave and never go back in there but I had to wait more for her to bring the check... which she never brought the desert tray with. After another couple of minutes another server noticed our displeased looks and the check and took it for our waiter, A+ for that. So in short we waited too long for literally everything, the food was bad, they have empty promises advertised, and give much small portions than any other Mexican place I have been to. Had an early dinner in house tonight with BF. Was sat quickly, place was clean no crazy loud music. There was a good amount of people dining. Our waitress Meghan was on point knew the menu front and back was very friendly and attentive. Chips and salsa was brought out quickly chips weren't overly salty salsa had a perfect amount of heat. Food was ordered and delivered in what felt like record time. I ordered the trio of burritos all three were great I would not have been disappointed to order just 1 of any of them. The rice and beans were cooked perfect. My BF got a burrito dish with 2 burritos rice and beans. He loved his. He also ordered the patron margarita and said it was flavorful. First time my fiance and I went was completely on a whim late afternoon and decided to give it a try. Our server was awesome, drinks were tasty and our meals were hot, tasted fresh and delicious. The second time we went as a little less stellar as the first time. I ordered the same dinner as I had previously, no changes to the dish, but this time it was so spicy I could barely get through it. We went in after the dinner rush but was no way near closing time but kinda felt awkward sitting there while everyone was sweeping and cleaning around us. I adore this place. The staff is genuinely friendly and competent. The 'tableside guac' is fabulous, and the El Jefe margaritas are very tasty. The menu has plenty of variety, and also vegetarian options! Most of all, (for us Dog lovers), on the last Saturday of the month, they have 'Yappy Hour' on the patio. Bring your dog, and bring a bag of dog food or treats for donation to the highlighted rescue society, and you'll receive a cup of queso and chips for free.
