Cheesy hash brown bagel with smoked salmon shmear. Excellent!

You know those tests that require you not to eat/drink up to half an hour before them? Realistically that means you won't be eating or drinking if you're supposed to check in at 6.30am, and you were planning to wake up, get dressed and port over in a hurry after waking at 6am. So I was pleased to see this bagel shop! I had walked through the hospital cafeteria beforehand: where everything looked somewhat unappealing because of the way it was laid out in huge batches, though prices seemed good there. In contrast, this bagel shop had a line of people waiting with many of them dressed in scrubs. So I thought, it must be worth the wait. I was really impressed by their cheesy hashbrown bagel with smoked salmon shmear. Toasted, it came perfectly crispy outside and soft inside. The smoked salmon shmear was a little salty (as most smoked salmon things tend to be) but not unbearably so. I would be happy to get more bagels here in the future, but for one thing - the line for ordering and waiting for food (with maybe about 10 people in the line in front of me max) prob took about 20min or more total. So... only patronize this place if you know you have the time to spare.

Einstein at the UofM Hospital is alright if you're looking for an alternative to the cafeteria (which isn't bad!). I typically come to pick up a quick snack, like a parfait or bagel. I LOVE their cinnamon sugar bagel with honey almond cream cheese. It's like eating dessert for breakfast. =9 With that said, even though I have quite a sweet tooth, I'm not too fond of their sweet coffee, particularly their vanilla hazelnut latte. "Vanilla hazelnut" ...sounds incredible right? I've actually gotten this latte multiple times to see if I can catch it made well, or if I change my mind about it. But no. It tastes like drip coffee with syrup; there's no richness to it that should be in a latte. I didn't like their white chocolate mocha either -- same complaints. Their regular mocha is okay. So yes, I come for a quick bite, but not for my caffeine fix.

Located in the cafeteria area of UofM Hospital, this place is hustling with thousands of bagel eaters in and out every day. Some of the staff have been there for years and will greet you by name which is just an extra morning perk. Because of the large volume of customers, bagels can run low or out more often than at other Einstein locations. Bagel smears run from sweet to salty and they stopped having peanut butter as an option due to allergies. Besides the plane-jane bagel, you may want to consider their hot dog wrapped in an asiago cheese bagel or their pizza bagel (both of which are delicious but probably not that good for you). Fresh oj, smoothies, lattes and their signature line of coffees (the hazelnut is divine) are just a few of the drinks you could order. There are a few tables to eat at but not many. You can always move to the wider seating area of the hospital cafeteria which is just outside of Einsteins.

    Asiago bagel dog...tasty

This is a review for the White Lotus cafe on Zeeb road (not the farms on Liberty)…read more This place is now my go-to for West Side hang-out. Anytime I have a family member visit me we go here. (I'm thinking of holding my office hours here in the fall, IN PERSON, over real coffee! this coffee is yummmmmmmy) From the moment I walk in the door I am greeted with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Who all know me by my first name! (and I have a difficult Spanish name). They greet me with a smile, never rush me, and take my order all the while answering any questions I might have. Since their menu is always evolving and changing, it's great that they take the time to walk through my options. So they have their standard amazing pizzas (which i first had at the farm) and their shockingly authentic pastries (even better croissants than I have had in Paris). But last week I tried their new breakfast food, and MAN! It was GOOD! the quiche, the omelet....and although I am convinced their chai is the best in Ann Arbor (it's not a premade mix of sugar and chemicals, it's the real deal) ...they now have this new line of matcha, so so good. Sarah and Kat make baristas run for cover, they are that good. And even with all that goodness, I was SHOCKED out of my mind when I had their eggplant sandwich. That thing is fire. FIRE. My family and I are big meat eaters, so when this one hit the scene, we couldn't believe how tasty it was. Even writing this review right now makes me want to go there and eat one. (I'll still keep trying their amazing ever-new menu, but this eggplant sandwich has become a standard) Also, there is this very cute small little market attached where I stop by at the end of the day to pick up freshly made bread for dinner. We love the sesame bread, but geez louise, the baguettes are addictive. Their head baker is INSANELY talented. Remember that scene in Ratatouille when the food critic gets transported to a core memory? That happens to me when I eat that bread. I have purchased goat milk soap there (its handmade by the baker's wife), hot chocolate mix, a kabocha squash, this no sugar added mango puree (which I made a no-sugar added mango torte with). They have these really cool unique products, and it really is a treat to stop by. The place is beautiful, and it is a gem to have such a high quality place to eat on this side of town. The passion that these people have comes through in their food, the products they sell, and the way they treat their community. I love Ann Arbor, and I love this cafe. (okay now i really am going to go and get that eggplant sandwich)

What a open and airy space with a Café on one side and a market on the other. The lunch menu…read moreincludes pre-made sandwiches, made-to-order sandwiches, and pizzas. I ordered the Korean Chicken sandwich to go and it was ready quickly. It was very tasty and Huge. There several interesting-looking pizzas, but they were too large for a single lunch.
