One of my all-time favorite spots in Ann Arbor. I'd highly recommend the beef frita and making it "loco" (adds Munster cheese, chili-lime salsa, tropical slaw, avocado spread, and sunny side up egg). The bun is really soft and made by Zingerman's. This is a messy meal and requires a fork and knife to be eaten as the toppings are piled high. A lot of people order the garlic cilantro fries, but I personally prefer the regular fries as the chili mayo they come with is amazing. Budget more time than you think to eat here. It's open seating, though you are not supposed to reserve seats until after you have ordered your food. During peak hours, there is sometimes a long line to the door, which can take about 20m. It's not ideal for big groups during peak hours, as it can be difficult to find a spot for a large group. Definitely a must try if you have not been! read more

Was visiting Ann arbor for a conference. A friend highly recommended this place. I tried their chorizo based sandwich, it was really good. Tender and juicy. The Chile mayo was also a perfect blend with it. And I tried one of their drinks, it was mango pineapple based which was really good. However, I asked the server if I could sample a coconut cream one. Frita Batidos you have been kind to me. The black bean frita sub fries for garlic fries was genuinely heavenly. I loved the coconut cream and cajeta batidos. There's indoor and outdoor seating and the vibes in this spot are great, dominios to play and water at the tables. The staff are incredible too, very on top of orders and refilling waters especially given how busy it is. I love that they bring the lights down in the evening. Always had a positive experience here. I had a Chorizo Frita with a Chocolate Espanol Batido, their garlic cilantro fries and some crisped plantains and everything was amazing. The Frita was fairly huge, tasty and very flavorful. The batido was nice, very good milkshake and not overly sweet. The pricing isn't bad either, the ingredients are great quality and the price was what I expected it to be. The fries were perfect texture, crispy on the outside and soft and potato-y inside. Definitely would come back to here when in Ann Arbor again. I haven't been to many Cuban places, but I actually was very impressed by the burger. I've been to many burger places in Chicago but none that come with plantains. I would say the burger was relatively average overall. I got mine with bacon which was so thick it almost was like pork belly! Something that was different about this burger was the bun was a little bit sweet, which was a nice change up from the savory patty. Let me also preference. I'm not someone who likes fries on their burgers so I definitely gave those to my friend. The thing that took the cake for me were the plantain chips. Almost everyone in my group ordered a pack so I was like maybe this is too much overkill, I couldn't have been more wrong. I needed an entire pack of those. They were sweet. They were salty, they came with us delicious avocado garlic guac. I think they were a little expensive for what they are, but I would've happily paid six dollars. What surprise me the most was the drink. It was negative degrees outside and everyone in our group ordered a Batido. I got the coconut one and it was perfect. Perfectly creamy, perfectly sweet, icy, but not chunky. I would drive all the way from Chicago to Michigan to get this batido again. We ended up getting the cinnamon sugar plantains for dessert, and I didn't care for the texture as they were relatively heavy. I think the denseness took away from the light texture I was expecting. Multiple people said this was their favorite restaurant in town, so I had to give it a try! I'm not quite sure what I expected, but it's a Cuban burger restaurant and bar. You walk up and order and then can eat there for a full service meal, but I took my food to go. I ordered a chorizo burger with Muenster, avocado, and cilantro lime salsa. I thought it was really good and incredibly filling. It was served with shoe string fries on the burger so it was definitely a heavy meal. I dipped it in some siracha sauce for some extra spice but personally didn't think it was spicy enough. Overall the burger was delicious, but I wish they had a spicy chorizo or something with a little bit more of a kick. I didn't try any of the drinks but they looked delicious. I'd love to come back and eat at the restaurant and order some of their drinks. Worth the wait! As we approached the restaurant, we noticed the queue was out the door. Concerned about wait time we debated walking elsewhere but I'd been wanting to try it for so long we decided to wait. Definitely the right choice. The menu is located on the wall behind the cashier and is simple to determine how to order and what to order. On this visit I tried the chicken; my husband tried the chorizo and we also ordered kids items the beef and grilled cheese. The portions are perfect for kids. The side of fries with the sweet chili mayo are also generous. The chicken and chorizo are super flavorful. The tropical slaw with mango and hiccama is different but so good! There's a bar that was hopping and turning out a lot of tasty drinks. We didn't partake this time but definitely want to next time. There are water jugs at the table as well as napkins and condiments. The staff brings your food to you at your picnic table after ordering at the counter. There's also outdoor seating available. The staff was busy making sure the restaurant was tidy. I like the bright white paint and designs on the walls. It made it feel fresh. Nice spot right in the middle of the college crowd. The vibe here is upbeat and lively, but finding a seat on weekends can be tough, the place stays packed. We tried the Chicken Frita burger, and it was excellent and full of that Cuban-inspired twist. The Coconut Batido was easily the star of the meal, creamy and refreshing -- definitely a must-try. The Chocolate Batido was good too. The only letdown was the Cilantro Fries -- they came out soggy and didn't really hit the mark. Service was good, you will have to wait for your order sometimes but friendly despite the crowd, and the space has a fun tropical feel with the bar area setup. We were in Ann Arbor for a wedding and this place was recommended to me by one of my coworkers who previously lived in the area for ~10 years and it did not disappoint! We went here for lunch on a Saturday and the service was efficient. You order at a counter, take a number and grab a seat indoors or outdoors. We sat outside. We ordered the fish frita with cheese, beef frita, garlic fries and the passion fruit batido. The portions were quite large for the price and everything was so tasty! Normally I wouldn't take the time to review over and over and over again because generally a place isn't consistently great. You can't say that about Frita's. It is consistently great it's even consistently fabulous!!!! Tonight I capped it off by trying the Chorizo Frida which is the only regular Frita that I had not tried. It will be one of my favorites and I will definitely order it again! I have never had chorizo that wasn't greasy and this was not the least little bit and was spiced to perfection. Need I remind you that Frita is a real person.... who brought real traditional recipes to her very real Cuban establishment here in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor. She has brought in her menu and now offers bowls which are lettuce-based and on the healthy side. You make your way to the counter and then place your order. When your order is ready, your name is called out and a server locates you and brings you your order I've never had anything that didn't taste exceptionally good. The service has also been very good. A staple in downtown Ann Arbor, Frita is always a great spot to meet up with friends before going out for drinks nearby. Seating is picnic-bench style so be prepared to share/sit close to other parties. Food is great and comes out really quickly - you can mix and match what you get when you order before sitting. My only note about the spot is that there is one line to order food which can get backed up. Frita Batidos is the classic Cuban burger spot that you HAVE to visit at least once if you live on campus. This is your classic late-night spot that sells fishbowls, burgers, and other great menu items. Their Batidos are all delicious and sweet. The fishbowls are huge, but if you're not into tart drinks, they might not be for you. You HAVE to get their garlic cilantro fries! Their plantain chips are good too. Don't forget about the rice bowls!!! I only recently discovered them and they're one of my favorite things to order. The pulled pork is super savory and there's a slight sweet taste that matches well with the seasoned rice. For fritas, I always get chorizo and make it loco. It's a little pricey, but the toppings are worth it. I used to get beef, but when they're really busy, sometimes the meat comes out practically raw. For that, I'm taking off one star. PLEASE Be careful when ordering beef. Their black bean burger is good too. Very rare con, but the seasonal items today were kinda flops. The Mexican city corn was just corn from a can that was mixed with seasoning. It came out hot, but it was average. The cubano was not great. The coffee was sour and the sugar at the bottom didn't melt, so it didn't help with the flavor. While other seasonal menu items have been good, today's was not worth. Overall, Frita Batidos is consistent with their classics. Definitely worth going with friends! But be careful ordering certain items during rush hour. read more

Must-stop anytime we're in Ann Arbor. People seem allergic to online ordering, but it saved us having to stand in a long line on Homecoming weekend. Biggest tip I can give is to absolutely NOT skimp on spending the extra $1.50/each to get the muenster cheese and the sunny-side up egg. My order is the double beef frita with the muenster cheese and the sunny-side up egg. Just a classic "burger" but in my opinion, the egg and the cheese is what separates the flavor from just an average burger. If you want to learn the hard way, order one without and order one with and see for yourself. PS: there are shoestring fries in the burger. Sides are kind of mid. Some people swear by the plantains and the beans/rice, but I wasn't a huge fan. Thought most of the flavor was in the burger--and it's very filling on its own if you get the double. SO I FINALLY tried some other options and was very impressed! The Tropical Salad is delish and really lives up to its name! Very bright and refreshing, with a unique guava vinaigrette. There's a fruity sweetness, with the mango slices as well, but not too sweet. Love the crunchy pepita and jicama as well. I added tofu which was well marinated and well textured. And then also tried a bit of a Frita Bowl with aromatic pulled pork (my husband and I split/shared both items) which we got on the coconut ginger rice and comes with tropical slaw. DELISH!
