Been a customer of Casey's literally for over thirty years. It's been our go to pub in Ann Arbor and we never have to think twice about having a good meal. Stopped in for lunch today, we ordered the tuna on sourdough and a turkey Reuben and a local IPA. Sandwiches were fine but the fries were absolutely horrible. Cold, chewy and uneatable. They tasted like they were made the two day ms before and left under a heat lamp overnight. A nightmare for our tastebuds. The waiter never returned to check on us so we decided to just forget them and finish the sandwiches. It was after 1 pm the bar was mostly empty so it wasn't a busy place. Eventually the waiter came with the check and we told him about the fries and he shrugged his shoulders and said it was maybe the cooking oil. No, they were ice cold. He offered to send out a new order of fries but we were done with our meal and had enough. Asked the waiter to at least take them back to the kitchen to let them know but he didn't do it. Asked we walked to our car, two kitchen staff were relaxing by the back door, taking a smoke break. Post Covid Ann Arbor restaurant service has declined but Casey's really have/had the best fries in town. Hope the get back on track. read more

Stopped by with friends who haven't been here before... we can on a Monday and thank goodness it was slow. Seating was simple and quick... they do check your ID at the door before you get seated. Interior hasn't changed and I don't expect it to change. I appreciate the old vibe that place gives. For meal, we ordered: - few onions rings - Fried Artichoke Hearts - 2 regular burgers and 1 order "over the top" - few beers The service is hit or miss, depends on how busy the place gets... our waitress was working six tables by herself, but she did all she could to help. The onion rings were awesome, fried artichoke hearts, you can skip... for the burgers, I would recommend you stick to classic - meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions. We all got it med, the meat was juicy as usual and we all enjoyed it. The draft beer that I ordered was flat unfortunately. When we got our check I noticed that there was a "convenience fee 3%", which is applied to your meal prices only. I'm not a fan of convenience fee, if they are trying to offset the credit card charges or adjust their prices due to the inflation or higher material costs, they should just raise their prices to offset those. I also didn't see anything about convenience fee being added, granted if it was in a smaller print so I could have missed it. It seems everyone is adding on convenience fee to everything. read more

The burger was cooked to perfection. The onion rings were crisp and not greasy tasting. The french fries were also not greasy but crisp on the outside and tender on the inside and lightly salted. The service was great and the atmosphere was good. Music playing in the background, the olympics on the televisions. We were seated immediately after we arrived. When our bill arrived we noted that a 3% Convenience fee added. We checked the menu and saw that in "prescription bottle instruction sized type" the fee was indeed disclosed at the bottom of the menu where one is unlikely to notice it unless one is so bored with their dinner companions that they feel the need to carefully read every single piece of text on the menu. Now, what was the provided convenience you might ask? It couldn't be a fee for using a credit card since the fee was added before the server knew how we were going to pay. Last time I checked, there are no restroom attendants standing around offering a fresh hand towel for guests to use in drying their hands. If there was free valet parking, we missed that. Basically, no conveniences were offered in exchange for this dubious fee that is popping up at different restaurants around town. This is basically a way for restaurants to raise their prices without raising their prices. It's a dishonest deception, plain and simple. The actual amount raised is under $1.00 per entree. I am fully aware of the pressure facing restaurants today (I am in fact a part owner in a well known Ann Arbor restaurant.) But let's be honest and set the prices where they need to be to cover costs and generate a reasonable profit and let's not use trickery and deception to squeeze another $0.75 from the customer. Oh, and the food? Well it was just mediocre. The bun used in my Shrimp Po Boy was so flimsy that I had to resort to a knife and fork to eat the sandwich. The other entrees at our table were also disappointing. Sadly, Casey's appears to be yet another old time Ann Arbor restaurant institution that is living of its past laurels rather than keeping up the quality. read more

I think that most people who come order burgers as they seem to have a reputation for that. As someone who does not eat red meat, I've never had a problem getting a decent meal. On my most recent visit I had an Impossible Burger and it was very good, especially given that one has the option of adding three of a large group of toppings at the regular price. I've also enjoyed the Bangkok Noodles and a few other sandwiches that have been good. The servers are friendly. read more

Stopped in after spending some quality time with one of our Grandbabies in AA. We have been to Casey's a couple times in the past, and it is close where we were visiting. We had the Meatless Joe (quite good) and a Greek Salad w Chicken (Greek dressing was delicious). Prices are fair for portion and quality. We like the eclectic decor. Service was decent. Casey's has long been a standout bar and grill in Ann Arbor. It successfully straddles the line between 'great neighborhood tavern' and 'go there just for the food'. A winning combination!! My wife had a burger and I had the Casey's Favorite sammich. Both came out quick and hot. My wife's burger was properly (medium rare) cooked and juicy. My sandwich was great as well. The food is pretty good, the service is not terribly friendly, they seem more about themselves than the customers, some arrogance detected there. I have not been here in 20 years. Located across the street from A2s train station. Sparse street and small lot pay parking, even less nearby free street parking. Inside this old building is an old fashioned dark wood bar and bar room. Limited craft and macro beer selection, three crafts when I was here. They have a selection of pub type food. Their main claim to fame is the burgers. Mine was very greasy. Good fries. Didn't have to wait too long for beer or food. The staff was fine, a little distant. I was here for lunch on a Friday, as outdoor workers in hoodies and muddy jeans came in it was obvious why the female bartenders and wait staff are distant, as the workers crudely macked on them. The prices were not bad, and they have specials posted on a board. 20 years ago the few craft taps and fatty burgers were a reason to come. The fancy burger and craft beer serving world got better and this place stayed the same--now it is good but not great. read more

We went here for a very early dinner (5:00) because we had heard that it fills up quickly. We had no problem getting a booth at 5:00. My husband and I split the Greek salad and the Salmwich (salmon sandwich). They split both the salad and the sandwich in the kitchen (I love when places do that for you) and I think they gave us a salad and a half because even my half salad was huge. Tasty salad, sandwich, and fries. Service was great. They do have a small parking lot on the side of the building. When we arrived at 5:00 there was also quite a bit of street parking. When we left at 6:15, empty spots were much more scarce. read more

I once dined often at Casey's but stopped coming after some unfriendly encounters but then that was years ago and decided it was time to give it another go. Well, no complaints about friendly service, we were greeted warmly and allowed to choose a table of our choice. The waiter informed me the special of the day was meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I thought that sounded great and said I would go with that. The meatloaf was okay but it was cold, as was the broccoli. I wasn't able to do much about it as the waiter never came back to check on us. My surprize came with the bill, the meatloaf was $21.99--really, for meatloaf? So one kids meal, one soda, one beer and meatloaf came to over 50 bucks with tip. I'll try back in a few more years. read more

Two slices of perfectly seasoned meatloaf, grilled, then lovingly stuffed with your choice of toppings from the burger toppings menu. Grilled onions? You got it! Jalapeño relish and mozzarella? Sounds divine! Let your imagination (and tastebuds) run wild! Served on your choice of grilled bread. Amazing! Their version of the french dip is also crave-worthy. Service at the bar is friendly and casual. Prices are VERY reasonable. Only gripe? I wish that they were open on Sundays, so I could enjoy 7 days per week!! Insider tip: Parking is difficult. More of a 3.5, but that's only because of the wonderful service and atmosphere. Overall the food was not that great and I left feeling like I needed to shower because of the greasiness. We ordered some onion rings to start, which is the best thing we had the whole meal. Casey's is known for them and they do not disappoint. Huge pieces of onion and then fried perfectly. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions and pepper jack cheese and was underwhelmed by it. It did not have that much flavor. The fries that came with it were very good though. My mom and dad enjoyed their meals more than I did, but sadly I forget what they ordered. I believe the pastrami sandwich and one of the specials that night. The bartenders do know what they are doing, they made a great Moscow mule. read more

We are visiting from Columbus, Ohio (Shhhhhh- don't tell anyone!). We're staying in a hotel & My son was craving Fish & Chips. I found Casey's on Yelp. OH MY WORD! Their food is AMAZING! Such a cool atmosphere. The servers are delightful. The Fish & Chips are "best in the world" according to my picky connoisseur son. And they REALLY are! I got Casey's Favorite sandwich. Soooooo Good! And their Steak Fries are the perfect texture & temperature! So many condiments on the table. Sports on all the TVs. Everyone is attentive & gracious. Casey's benefits from location; the hostess described it as a "halfway house" for those coming to - or leaving from - the Amtrak station. We hauled our luggage from south 7th to the station and were desperate for a respite from the heat. I was mildly satisfied. On one hand, the interior is very becoming of a good-time dive: small, quaint, and dimly lit. The menu is also interesting. As a vegetarian, I jumped at the chance to get a veggie sloppy joe over cornbread. In execution, the meatless joe wasn't particularly tasty, nor did it taste much like a sloppy joe. The cornbread, however, was really good. They don't have mixed drinks (but if you like beer, they're probably great), but their cider is okay. The prices are kinda crazy for what amounts to pub food. I am so glad that Casey's survived. It was closed throughout the pandemic and there was great speculation as to whether it would re-open or not. Late Summer it opened up again and it was like it never left. The menu looked the same, the staff was familiar and it felt like home coming back. Casey's is another historic icon of Ann Arbor. The menu doesn't change in 15 years since my first visit and the recipes are the same. The interior too. Small, old world feel of dark wood and stained glass. Someone greets you at the door and shows you to a seat if available. It's small and popular so be patient. I love sitting at the bar. Great drinks and selection of wines are available. Beer too, but I haven't checked the selection. Parking is a challenge - there are short term meters at the train station across the street, a very small parking lot around the side, or you might get lucky catching a meter on the street. I personally favor the catwich sandwich and ask for the BBQ sauce on the side. The blackened seasonings are just perfect and I enjoy the sauce with my fries as well. I have taken a bit of a Yelp sabbatical, but the disparity between my experience and the Yelp star rating has spurn me back into action. Casey's is showing up as a 4 star venue when in reality it should be more than a little lower. Where to begin? Casey's Tavern is a restaurant/dive bar on Depot street right outside of downtown Ann Arbor. The parking was not ideal but we managed to find a close meter. Once we were inside the venue, I immediately noticed a musty stench. I still had my hopes up, I mean, 4 stars, can't be that bad! The bar/restaurant has a dive bar feel to it, but it does not lose points for that either. Thick wooden floors. World War II memorabilia on the walls. A motor bike hanging from a couple thin chains. The layout of the tables was a little claustrophobic for me. Our neighboring table was almost directly in front of our booth. It seemed like there was a less than 3 foot gap separating any table/booth. This made navigating through the small restaurant section quite precarious especially with wait staff also teeming through the area. The bathroom is a little close to the dining area for my tastes. The bathroom area is separated from the dining area by a six foot or so wall. They also had open pitchers of assorted beverage just sitting on a wait staff table, which was almost right outside the bathroom area also. I felt like I was going to knock one of the pitchers over while trying to squeeze by a table of 5 diners seated ridiculously close to this "service" table. But hey, I am not a restaurant professional. I mean if it was my place, I would probably take out a few tables but that's just me. This tight setup, bathroom situation, and open air beverage refill station shave a star off. The food. Here's where they take a big hit. We came to Casey's specifically because of a review that noted "Casey's has the best wings in town!". I have been on a wings tear and been trying wings at as many different acceptable venues as possible. Casey's seemed like a good choice based off the high star rating and favorable reviews. I feel like I got scammed... So, I ordered the wings on the menu, which were just a single line, non-descript item under the appetizer column on the menu. When the wings arrived, they were those freezer bag wing dings that you would expect to eat at a high school cafeteria. These were the worst wings I have had of the 10+ or so wing venues I have tried in the last month or so. (OK, OK, I will review these other venues also). So, the wings were terrible. Onto the main course... For our main courses, we both ordered deli sandwiches. (Honestly, because nothing on the menu looked appealing. I was struggling to find something I actually wanted to try off this menu.) I went with the "favorite", which was a Rueben-esque sandwich. Pastrami and turkey deli cold cuts, topped with a dollop of coleslaw and Russian dressing, sandwiched between two pieces of toasted rye. It was alright side from the fact the cold cuts were icy cold even though the sandwich was obviously pan toasted. Both sandwiches came with a side of freezer bag steak fries. The fries were oversaturated with oil and basically inedible. Disappointing meal. Overall, this combo was on the bottom end of alright. The high side of terrible. Our waitress was friendly though and came to check on our table often. The prices were high. They also nickeled and dimed us for every small add on/modification. Extra sauce? That's a dollar. Cheese? That's a dollar. I don't factor the price into the star rating but this was a place where a small order of wings and 2 deli sandwiches ended up running about $50 after tax and tip. We drove by Casey's many times while heading down Depot Street into downtown Ann Arbor over the years. I was always curious to stop in and check it out. My curiosity has been satiated and I can tell you Casey's is a hard pass. read more

Really low quality food with very high prices. There was not a fun or friendly atmosphere within the tavern but the biggest issue was the food. I paid over ten dollars for a supposedly 'overstuffed' BLT and it had only a few pieces of bacon and only one layer of tomato and lettuce. It was akin to a BLT you'd make as a small lunch at your own house. Nothing was special or good about it and yet it was over ten dollars. Wow, were we shocked when we walked in and found this place packed! All the tables were full & only one bar stool left at the bar. We wanted a quick snack. Two sets of people offered to move over so we could squeeze another stool in at the bar. We had a beer, water and fried artichoke hearts. They were hot out of the fryer, not at all greasy and the dip was very interesting and yummy! Not sure what the dip was other than tasty! Spoke with a gentleman at the bar to see what was good to eat. He grew up here and said their burgers are outstanding as are all their sandwiches. He said for the specials, ask the bartenders, who are brutally honest, and we can't go wrong. He enjoys all the food at Casey's. A new spot to eat at next time we're in Ann Arbor! read more

For years, I've gone to Casey's and always gotten something meaty-licious, rarely straying from the burger and always perfect fries. I never looked twice at the meatless joe. I have seen the error of my ways. First of all it's served over grilled cheddar-corn bread and how can you go wrong from there (udeon jamaica meat patty excepted)? I totally agree with Lauren L. this place does remind me of Sidetrack. Great onion rings and burgers for sure, kinda crowded, just a similar vibe. I wanted the fried artichoke hearts but James was not having it. We opted for the O-rings with our burgers. I was not too sad because the onions were uber tasty. My husband dipped his into some ranch, I stuck to the occasional dab of ketchup. My burger was on an onion roll with pepper jack, guac and grilled onions. James switched out for multigrain and had Tilamook cheddar and bacon. We equally enjoyed the juicy happiness. Really nice flavor, top notch burger overall. Pick your fave toppings and you will not go wrong. We will be back as the menu has much more to try. Going by what we had I am excited to explore more. read more
